Ancient Godly Monarch

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

In the Province of the Nine Skies, far above the heavens, there exists Nine Galaxies of Astral Rivers made up of countless constellations interwoven together.

For Martial Cultivators, they could form an innate link with one of the constellations, awaken their Astral Soul, and transform into a Stellar Martial Cultivator.

Legend has it that, the strongest cultivators in the Province of the Nine Skies, were beings that could open an astral gate every time they advanced into a new realm. Their talent in cultivation was such that they could even establish innate links with constellations that existed in a layer higher than the Nine Layers of Heavens, eventually transforming into the heaven-defying and earth-shattering power known as the War God of the Nine Heavens.

Qin Wentian is the MC of this story. How could a guy, with a broken set of meridians, successfully cultivate? There were countless Stellar Martial Cultivators, as there were countless constellations in the vast starry skies. What he wanted to be, was the brightest constellation of all, shining dazzlingly in the vast starry skies.

A decent read so far. Only recommended on binge, when there are tons of chapters translated.

Instead of constant arrogance and being offended = direct killing, the author has chosen something akin to the batting system, 3 strikes and you're out. MC isn't bloodthirsty and the author gives him a soft side to balance it out. Though the whole 'being underestimated by older people' is constantly thrown in whenever a new power shows up and every one of them are arrogant that act as fodder to fuel the MC to justify... more>> his actions.

With companions, you get a balanced party feeling that makes it enjoyable with more characters exchanging and growing together. Only the team fights are truly great text in this novel. Disappointingly, there is a 'trend' in how the MC grows. You rarely see him get defeated, unless it's to obtain some sort of legacy/chance/inheritance, instead, the author 'delays' the final confrontation and allows the MC to gain significantly in a short amount of time before killing off the challenger.

Romance wise, good female lead, but the MC keeps hitting on every chick he ends up on a good standing with. Literally a perverse version of Kirito from SAO were he won't just end up with best-girl. Have to be grateful that we see other romances for other couples that are friends with MC, this balances out my distaste in harem. Hopefully we don't get a realized version of KiritoxLeafa with MC getting it on with his foster-family's sister.

Cultivation, unique but lots of spoon-feeding that it feels like a 'game'. Just condensing an 'astral spirit' is similar to obtaining a 'Job class' that instantly delivers you all techniques/magic to you and all it requires is training in them yourself.
More spirits = more techniques/magics. The layers to which these spirits come from is like which job tiers they come from and of course MC gets all the OP choices.

Plot wise, by the time you read up to the latest translations, you'll easily reach the same theory as most of us. Ancient Godly Monarch -> Ancient Grand Xia -> Fallen clan -> Foster Family -> OP bloodline -> secrets == Winkwink.

I really can't imagine a decent further plot after the MC's origins are solved, yet the author keeps throwing in obvious hints that state the MC will eventually leave this great empire.
But as for why, most likely damsel in distress is my best bet. <<less

Loving it currently. It's different from other novels where the enemies of the MC are ret*rded. I like this one because it is in a sense more realistic than what I have read before. There is no huge clan, sect or organisation that will protect the MC just because of his talent, because they are able to reason and think like a human would do. And the MC Qin Wentain is a very likable character, to say he's humane. He feels like a real person (personality wise + his actions)... more>> and not a 2D created character.

Edit: Taking 5 star down to 4 because of the nonstop fights. It's like the MC never gets a break. <<less

Don't listen to all the people drinking hatorade. Generally, disregard salty reviews that claim this series is like a hundred others. Books are always like other books. Do you see me getting mad and ranting about English novels?

"Another book about a boy becoming a wizard? Or... Another detective investigating stuff??"

Really?!

OK, well this is decent so far. Yes it is like a lot of other novels, I enjoy it though.
-Cool cultivation system
-MC is not a rapist (bottom line, don't like rapists.)
-Guys is basically an enchanter who goes around bashing all the bullies.

So basically, a good story. I can't give it 5 stars. It is not that good, but a low to mid 4 is decent enough.

This novel is uneven. It has good and bad parts. In the beginning, it's quite.. Poorly executed. Maybe some things have been lost in translation, because it can get a little confusing.

Unexpectedly, this has one of the best characterizations in xianxia novels I've seen. The villains of the week are templates, yes, the MC is a ruthless self-righteous prick, yes.. However, all the other characters are to say the very least not bad. They have their own strengths, their own thoughts, their own weaknesses. It's not gonna blow your mind,... more>> but maybe like me you'll find yourself pleasantly not annoyed by the characters.

The cultivation is basically a power lottery, so you could potentially see a lot of different powers that people use. Unfortunately, it is not realized. Instead you get the vast majority having str+1, speed+1, def+1, instead of that one guy who could control beasts. The story is still early, but most likely it's not gonna be any better in the future.
Still all right.

As for the story, better than the average story, but undoubtedly the same as what you'd expect from an average story. <<less

Yeah im on c36, theres a prob? Be warned the story move so slow yet the scene escalates quickly. You will basically wonder like... "where did this girl came from" and more "huh did this guy pop out of nowhere" made me back read then find out yep this guy just pop out of nowhere. Many scene is like that. Bothers those who pay attention to details like me.

Spoiler

✔Got used, toyed, lied by the girl the MC wants to Bang.. now MC wants revenge (yep its xianxia allright)
✔MC got unique cultivation method got from something given from his unknown father
✔Cunning/Smart As*/ Schemer
✔Calm besides the hardship
✔Fat sidekick (duh xianxia)
✔Loyal Spirit Beast

This novel is a work, by the same author as PMG. That is to say, don't read this novel if you look for complexity and compelling plots. This is an action novel, filled with the thrill of the hunt. However, the characters aren't that well done, but the story is still very enjoyable. I would recommend this novel to anyone who likes other Xianxia type novels. It doesn't do anything new, but the theme it carries, it carries fairly well. Enjoy.

Cultivation setup is refreshing. It got me hooked and lifted my hopes up but how laughable was I to expect something from author or PMG. How ridiculous should I be to think it will be different from PMG. I don’t know if authors style or overly boasting MC will toned down as the story goes on making abit bearable for me to read. But as of today AGM is in my waiting list instead of reading. I hanging on to this for now in hopes that it will be better... more>> if I wait for future episodes <<less

As of chapter 12, the story has s**ked me in. I give it four stars, until further notice. The MC does not magical or randomly find a power-up, but the roots to increase his power were already established. Can not wait until he pays those that reward kindness with enmity.

Update: Since joining a powerful, secret sect, the story has become boring. There was a long arc of the MC fighing in a tournament to have an opportunity to join a sect, just to reject them. Heaven Chosen cultivators keep appearing... more>> that they become the norm. Same Heaven Chosen show disdain towards MC, etc. Of course, it would not be a Chinese webnovel if the next female character introduced is not the most beautiful girl and has a high status. <<less

First of all, I was completely shocked when I found out (I checked after reading a few hundred chapters) the author's name. It's actually the same guy who wrote PMG, that pile of garbage! And I'm shocked because this novel is soooo much better in comparison. Who knew there were actually Chinese webnovel authors that could learn and improve between their works? I give this 3/5, which is pretty good in my book because I'm strict with score.

The premise is pretty much described in the summary: we've got a "crippled"... more>> guy, except he did it on purpose to get a late but epic start, but ofc everyone didn't know and looked down on him, and you know the rest since it's so cliche. I've read PMG long years ago, so it's a bit hard to compare due to hazy memories, but I think this novel has a better plot, if only because the author put more effort into planning what's going on. Some details in terms of parts of the novel in the spoiler below:

Spoiler

Iirc, the premise was meh, and I skimmed through a few tens (less than 50 I think) chapters, but then it got better. I generally can recommend the first several hundred chaps because I could tell that the plot was made with lots of thought put into it (not as much as in, say, the novels of Fengling Tianxia, but quite decent for a webnovel, especially a Chinese one). The next several hundred chapters after that (starting between 500-1000 and ending, I dunno, around 1200 or 1300 maybe) are still passable, but plot gets boring when MC becomes a realmlord, gets garbagey when MC gets the vault of heavens or whatever that place was called, and the last 100 or so chapters are boring af, I went to read other novels and forced myself to skim through those chapters for the sake of finishing the book. But this is pretty normal for a webnovel - one that can maintain its quality through chapter 1000 or so is already pretty rare.

[collapse]

The protagonist is okay, but also nothing special. Chinese webnovels dealing with cultivation pretty much have very similar protagonists, and I'm hard-pressed to come up with something unique about him. Well, maybe one point I'll mention in love interests section later, but that's it. Then, again, he's not unlikable.

Love interests were surprisingly not bad. The novel has [late romance] tag, but it's inaccurate. The romance does start a bit late, but not even half into the novel. I won't go into details, but just know that the first two waifus have decent romance (for a webnovel like this), and while the author first seems to pull off that hateful sh*t where love interests are taken away from MC for whatever excuse so that the author doesn't have to worry about writing their interactions (good luck for those virg*n losers with that) and so that the MC has a motivation (you know, Mario and the princess in a castle), the truth is that it doesn't happen that often in the long run, and we've got plenty of nice interactions between MC and love interests. The first two waifus are done well both in terms of romance and harem genre, and they really did go through a lot with the protagonist. The third love interest is worse but still okay, but the stuff after that doesn't really deserve a mention imo. One good thing, though, is that the author teases readers with love interests a lot, so the readers don't really know who will get together with MC in the end, and the MC doesn't pounce on every beauty he meets. I appreciate this because it's boring otherwise. Like, I can list at least as many love interests that didn't get together with MC despite having feelings for him as those that did end up with him.

As for other characters, the support cast is quite numerous. We have friends, we've got rivals, we've got mentors, and of course we've got enemies as well. What I liked about this novel is that not every enemy stays one (one even became MC's friend despite having a life-and-death enmity with him). Sadly, though, it's a minority. Anyway, there's plenty of interactions, some characters are quite nice, and MC isn't the only person who can punch above his weight (there's a ton of them, actually). I also liked that the author wasn't afraid of killing important characters from time to time.

Regarding cultivation, the constellations part was pretty similar to what was in PMG. I kind of liked it. It was unique enough, though it seemed to matter much less in the late parts of the novel. On the other hand, the realms were tr*sh. Nothing innovative or unique about them. The first several ones you could at least tell apart because they had some differences, but the last several ones (like overlord and world something) were pretty much the same thing. Like, the author even mentioned two realms to be one and the some, but split into two for whatever vague reason.

The writing style wasn't bad, as much as you can judge it after translation. Well, at least in the first part of the novel. Like I mentioned it earlier on, it was pretty tr*sh at the end. The translation is riddled with mistakes (which isn't strange when you notice the translator was also the editor), but nothing that would really make it hard to read unless you're a real grammar nazi.

Overall, it's a passably decent webnovel (though that's partly because the average is so low). I don't urge you to read it if you've got anything good on your to-read list, but I encourage to give it a try if you like this sort of stuff and have nothing to read at the moment. It's nothing great, but more than half of it is sufficiently good to read. Just don't force yourself to finish it when you get to the big fight at the end and find it all boring.

Oh, and a warning from me: while this novel is much better in this regard than PMG, there's still loads of face slapping, young masters, and fights for nonsensical reasons... <<less

I got to chapter 423:
Spoiler

I tried, I really did, I overcame the repetition, the uneding second hand frustration and helplessness that this novel gave me every paragraph, like seriously, I just got to know the main protagonists and already the author cranked up difficulty of his life into nightmare mode, there was barely any breathing room, the unending generic arrogant characters left and right, countless problems occuring, everytime the MC breathes, there’d be a character out there who be like “So, you’ve chosen death”. I mean, this novel is written by a sadistic author for reals and thats just my personal take and what I feel overall, I’ve yet to get into the technical stuff, for instance the story is nothing special, it’s the same robotic step by step progression of any cultivation novel, where one overcomes goal A only to find out that goal A is actually just a smaller goal compared to the big goal that is goal B, repetitive, boring and unimaginative is what I feel with these types of plots and stories, and pacing is slow but thats to be expected, the characters are pretty decent but only the male lead, these authors are f*cking sexists as shit, they are fully incapable of creating strong female leads that doesnt need to be saved every 10 seconds, they only know how to create decorative or trophy female characters that contributes absolutely nothing to the story, and also one of the reason I stopped reading, from beginning to end the fMC was nothing but a burden, useless baggage that always needs to be saved, she died of sacrifice nothing noble of the sort because it was utterly predictable and if thats only that then I wouldn’t have stopped by I found out she gets reincarnated, thereby rendering the stakes completely useless, if she stayed dead I would’ve stayed for more but the author doesnt have the balls

Picked this book up for the second time, after forgetting that I dropped it before... Honestly its not as obliviously repetitive as other novels of this genre... I just couldn't stomach the harem aspect of this novel, its absolutely ridiculous, what woman in their right mind would send off their husband to another woman personally?? Even a Queen in ancient times wouldnt watch the King kiss his concubine with a huge smile on her face. Plus he basically declares his undying love for Mo Qingchang and then proceeds to the... more>> next target in his harem. If you like cultivation novels, you'll probably like this. If you don't like them, don't read it. Cultivation novels are all pretty formulaic, so if you like the formula, then that's great news, if you don't like the formula, well then most cultivation novels aren't going to be to your liking. They have the same type of Shonen story that you'd see out of manga and anime, but all of them have very specific things in common. They have a cultivation system that generally brings the character from zero to... more>> the best of the world and normally something unique about the character that helps them to advance (hidden bloodline, obtaining an item by chance, or obtaining an ability by chance).

This novel drags at certain points and the end baddy wasn't wholly to my liking, but other than that, this is the epitome of what a cultivation novel is and should be.

Oh, and there are minor harem elements, but I think it is fairly well done. It's at least mildly believable that all these women fall in love with the MC in the world it takes place in.

The only other complaint I have is that they ditched one of the MC's acquaintances, Zi Qingxuan. She was a fairly good character that just disappeared at some point. <<less

Its pretty standard junk cultivation novel. Basically the best way to sum it up is author want the MC to act as arrogant as possible but can't coz everyone will hate the MC. So the solution is to make everyone else act even more arrogant so the MC has a reason to act so arrogant in return.

Everyone at every level of cultivation is like a 5 year old with super powers so even though they should be old monsters who cultivated for hundred, thousands, tens of thousands of years they... more>> all have the self control of a 5 year old. MC is the same so maybe t he world should just be destroyed coz everyone so god damn dumb.

Basically skip everything that's not dialog and then skip like 80% of the dialog and you get some interesting stuff but really better off reading something else less painful. <<less

I've seen so many people give the book a bad review, but its honestly not that bad. Don't get me wrong its got the typical cycle of arrogance, underestimation and breathtakingly beautiful girls, but the story does have an actual plot that its following and there are few plot holes. I feel as if people are giving way to much of a high standard in the quality of the plot, just enjoy a strong MC who fights his way to the pinnacle, it's enjoyable.

The harem also isn't that bad, there... more>> has been like 20 girls or whatever that have fallen in love with the MC but he is a pretty loyal guy in the grand scheme of things so far he's got like 3 maybe 4 girls in his official harem and compared to the amount that fell in love with him its okay.

Basically, I'm thinking that the book is pretty good, has a clear goal and doesn't focus too heavily on the romance. <<less

Started out alright, but then rapidly deteriorated after chapter 200s. Writing is consistently flimsy and the plot is threadbare, but the characters were somewhat well developed and the world good enough until the character enters the Heavenly Fate Ranking Competition, upon which the final saving grace of the novel, the world and the characters, turned to sh*t and the entire novel just devolves into blatant wish fulfillment with the plot thrown away (not that it already wasn't wish fulfillment). 6/10 for the beginning arc, gradually devolving into 0/10 around chapter... more>> 240 (and yes, I skimmed a couple hundred chapters after that arc just to confirm). There are many novels with the classic (unique MC, Jack of all trades MC and the s*upid side characters that exist only to make our MC more dazzling, and ofcurse the repetitive plot)

sometimes we don’t mind those things. We even enjoy it SOMETIMES. Yet I can’t tolrate this novel anymore
