In a fantasy world where martial artists can split mountains and creeks with a wave of their hand and break rivers with a kick, there exists a little restaurant like this.

The restaurant isn’t large, but it is a place where countless apex existences will rush into.

There, you can taste egg-fried rice made from phoenix eggs and dragon blood rice.

There, you can drink strong wine brewed from vermillion fruit and water from the fountain of life.

There, you can taste the barbecued meat of a ninth grade supreme beast sprinkled with black pepper.

What? You want to abduct the chef? That’s not going to happen, because there’s a divine beast of unfathomable level, the Hellhound, lying at the entrance.

Oh, that chef also has a robotic assistant that killed a ninth grade supreme being with a single hand and a group of crazy women whose stomachs were conquered.

This novel focusing on the restaurant. Although theres some plot around it, it doesn't effect much to the story. Lots of descriptive details about foods. A self centered A.I. and a cold heart owner.

After lots of chapters, I got bored by the same scene. where the owner seems like living in his own world. he aint do shiet or care shiet to his surrounding, unless theres a quest from his A.I.

I'm imagining 1300+chapters of similar scene, n think... what the hell? Thats gonna bored me to death...

So I will just... more>> read a couple more chapters to see if it change. else, I will drop this novel. <<less

A good slice of life food novel. Don't expect much more. It might get boring after a couple hundred chapters of binge-reading, but take a break and read it later if you get bored. It's a really good food novel! I've been waiting for stuff like this.

Lots of faceslapping. MC's not dumb. He's a stoic dude that internally is grubbing for money. Sorta OP in food world. Not tip top, but getting there. (Duh, future God of Cooking.)

Ah, the story has funny reactions.

The side characters are fun. They're mildly... more>> interesting to interesting. Haha, the author literally mentions 'loli' and 'shota' XD Don't worry, the loli is likeable (and I usually don't like lolis).

You kinda get to learn about some Chinese dishes.

The system (MC's cheat) isn't harsh. It seems to be gently pushing the MC. MC's background is still mysterious. <<less

It's a pretty good read. It's more or less a turn your brain off and enjoy the experience type of novel. My biggest problem with the story and it was more or less fine until later, is that the MC has the most arrogance I've ever seen from an MC who couldn't back it up. This is especially shown in ... more>>

the Secret Realm where right in front of the bloody man and the Netherworld woman who both far surpass him in strength, he decides to charge forward to obtain the phoenix egg and the dragon grass. The bloody man attacks him and this is another moment where he realizes too late again (but will never learn again) that surprise, strong people exist. He would've died if Blacky hadn't shown up.

I know when something needs to be left aside when it doesn't come to my liking. For an example, after the first few dozens of chapters, Li Hongtian seemingly becomes aware of the need for 'more than just cooking chapters'. Weird because, when you get to read this story, you naturally wonder what kind of drive there will be in it. However, it seems as if Li Hongtian only though for doing so once he reached that point in creating the novel, so, meh.

As I find myself reading after a... more>> few dozens of chapters, there is (indeed, the bane of all real writers) endless fillers. And not just fillers like paragraphs that either say nothing, add nothing or are simply too big and repetitive. Rather, Li Hongtian very deeply wishes you are a ret*rd and expects you to not know what the principle of stepping your foot forwards is for and proceed to explain it to you while giving it circles in the manner of many but short paragraphs/phrases.

It didn't took long for any new NPC (oh oops, shouldn't it be characters? Oh well) to appear every chapter, yes every chapter, and become the new drive of the novel until a few lazily written chapters with more paragraphs that deem you a dumbfack ret*rded piece of shit. Farming chapters like they're naruto filler nonstop.

Everything is bland, even the way that it introduces the steps at making new dishes degrades over time.

I would recommend this if you're not willing to read any other novel and are waiting to read one in particular that is either being written or translated at the moment. Now, I already did that with VRMMO: The Unrivaled and I'm already tired of reading bad and disrespectful writing.

One last thing, to the first customer that BF has, nothing. Literally nothing, if anything, there is an event more than 100 chapters later. And that's it. Too bland and potential-killing. <<less

the comedy is pretty good, the story is good but it gets more and more repetitive, the MC character in my opinion is a bit bland but that's okay, the side characters are good and fun, but the cultivation journey is really a joke.

For me MC has always existed as an ant who often provokes a dog while taking cover behind a lion.

And I as a reader really can't feel any achievement when MC raises his cultivation, when MC is at level one, he provokes level 5, and when MC... more>> finally reaches level 5, MC has already provoked a tier 10 enemy which makes him once again became an ant provoking the dog and finally he had to take shelter under the lion. <<less

A novel that I had high hopes on since it had a similar concept to Black Tech Internet Cafe System but the author seemed rather lost in developing the novel. Plot is rather formulaic, MC is one-dimensional and the 'System' feels lacklustre. At least, the cooking description is not bad and the side characters are loveable. Might give this novel another go in the future.

To sum up in one word, MC is pathetic. Sure he is a chef but cultivation was introduced so we can expect to fight his battles but it is NOT. All his battles are for gathering ingredients. Most of his battles are halfway done and either the robot and the dog will clean his mess thats all rinse and repeat. I already dropped this halfway as I see no point reading this boring piece.

Had a solid plot and sticks to the core (which was cooking) till the end.

There are some arcs that I thought were interesting and the arcs were connected to each other.

The ending was a surprise but not really a surprise. And it feels kinda rush but still reasonable. It has an unexpected yet at the same time an expected ending.

There are some boring parts but still bearable and some slight plotholes and also missing characters that I thought would play a decisive role but was forgotten by the author. (E.g.... more>> Niu yan) Also some food descriptions gets lengthy so I skipped it sometimes.

Had a tiny element of romance but did not really dwell on it and in the end the female lead seems to end up with the MC but the author left it vague.

MC was very focused and dedicated to the goal and you can actually see some character growth from him. But you will only see it nearing the end (C1500+) (So he did not stay poker faced).

Had a slice of life element, where you can see the growth of the characters.

The main side characters were good and each has a role to play. But I feel that some characters were not able to fully display their role because of the lack of supporting details by the author.

World building is good but was not thoroughly explained. I feel that it was supposed to be very vast but was contained.

The translation was good though I would like to point out the "thousand of miles" when traveling in the cosmos for it's not an apt translation it should be lightyears instead of miles.

Overall it was a pleasant read and I did not regret reading this novel though I did not fully immersed myself into it because I skipped some parts (coz it gets lengthy like food descriptions and fight scenes) but still it was good and I would give it a rating of 4 stars. For even though it's lacking and has a lot of room for improvement but I enjoyed it and that's what really matters. <<less

This story is an enjoyable read that brings a nuanced and unique take to the Xianxia cultivation genre. It's a story that shouldn't be taken too seriously as it's focus--and strength--lies in the often comedic interactions and reactions resulting from the MC's culinary arts that flip the cultivation world upside down.

The plot and cultivation world at large are good enough (not great) to carry the story. A lot of the tension is often created by the author turning people on MC's side into morons (kind of a reverse plot armor)... more>> which forces the MC to take action after much suffering. I'm honestly not a fan of this type of plot development as I find it just incredibly lazy writing.

The MC himself can be exasperating at times because he is almost entirely indifferent and apathetic to the plight of the people around. He won't act to help those that are close to him unless there's some sort of benefit he can gain from it. The MC also keep referring to the world he now live in as a fantasy world, seemingly not having come to terms with the fact that this is his new reality and not some fairy story. It may be frustrating, but it makes sense when the reader remembers that the MC's pursuit is to become the God of Cooking, and a god (especially one with such a unique focus) often times are callous and cares little for the ordinary people.

All in all, I think the story is worth checking out and the positives outweigh the negatives. <<less

It's just like a typical chinese cultivation novel but cooking.

I had a lot of free time before and I like the cooking concept so I read till the last chapter with the help of MTL. It started good but there are a lot of times you'll get bored reading the story but of course there are arcs which are really great that it will make you hope for the next chapter.

Overall I rate it 3.5/5 (there is no half a star rating in novelupdates but I think at best it... more>> will only be this much) <<less

Like any other CN works, started great and goes downhill in quality.
Spoiler

Just like any other CN novels (more specifically cultivation novels and the like), it's pretty repetitive which is no surprise.
MC expressionless and not giving a thought? Quite interesting in the few chapters but the longer I read the novel the more that I think the MC is just someone who thinks like a child and acts like a child.

Had my hopes up.. But pretty dissapointing. MC has the personality of a plank of wood and fight scenes are not described well. Forgettable supporting characters too.. Such a shame.

I am 110 chapters in, and the novel is good, but the MC personality is just irritating. He is literally a puppet doing everything that the system tells him to. He has only gone outside of his shop only once in over 100 chapters and that was only because he was told by the system. MC has an indifferent 'meh' personality, which isn't bad on its own, but the level his indifference is on is just insane. In front of his store 2 minors (I think) were literally getting kidnapped... more>> in front of his store and in front of him and he's just like 'meh' and only throws his knife at the feet of the kidnapper which probably wouldn't even hurt much as the kidnapper was literally a grade-6 battle-emperor (which is considered strong at the moment I am reading at). Another example of him being just insanely indifferent and just a robot, in general, is when his only employee was literally abducted and the MC is just like 'oh, she got abducted? I am sure that they won't hurt her because her [insert affiliation] would retaliate' an antagonist character even calls him out if he even really cares because MC is just that indifferent. MC has a robot assistant, but honestly, I have a hard time thinking which one of them is the real robot. I will give the novel 4 stars (currently) but that could change if I think otherwise later on. <<less

It’s good. A fun read when your bored. I just wish there’s more fighting for him because it’s a cultivation novel so it doesn’t make sense for the dog and robot to fight his battles all the time. I like the interactions between him and his customers and the humor. It was a nice touch.

Honestly I'm a little surprised at the number of low ratings. It's self-explanatory: it's literally a story about cooking in a Xuanhuan.

Granted, it's far from perfect; however I'm reading this for the salivation-inducing descriptions. Don't expect some intricate story, it's not deep at all. The characters are the side dish and the plot is the sauce that makes the main course taste better.
A lot of the complaints I've seen is about the MC, and I agree to an extent. I feel like the author didn't know the direction to... more>> take with his personality, so he almost doesn't have one, but honestly that's a little harsh to say. He's just underdeveloped. It's not a glaring issue. The rest of the cast are colorful enough, albeit a tad 2-dimensional.

At the end of the day though, I enjoy reading this novel. I think it's fun and I look forward to updates so that's a win in my book. (4.2/5) <<less

In this chinese historical fantasy novel, Bu Fang is a modern chef who transmigrates to the Imperial City, Light Wind Empire, on the boundless Hidden Dragon Continent. A cooking system in his mind teaches him techniques and assigns him quests as he slowly levels up on his quest to become a God of Cooking.

Initially, Bu Fang opens a humble little store and various famous characters from the Light Wind Empire visit his store and discover that his amazing dishes can help their cultivation levels. After a long story arc involving... more>> the various factions vying for the throne, more powerful factions around the Light Wind Empire start to scheme and Bu Fang's little store accidentally ends up playing a pivotal role in larger matters.

Bu Fang just wants to laze about and recover his energy when he's not on his feet cooking delicious cuisine for astronomical prices. However, as he inadvertently becomes embroiled in the schemes of the super powerful and greedy, he realizes he has to increase his own cultivation level faster so that he can pursue higher ranked ingredients/prices/techniques. After staying in the store for the first while, building up his clientele and reputation, Bu Fang later
Spoiler

enters cooking competitions, hunts wild ingredients, takes on apprentices, opens a new branch, and where I am at now, he's moved onto a larger, more dangerous part of the Hidden Dragon Continent, including competing with mad experts in the Cloud Sea Secret Realm.

[collapse]
In spite of his weak status, his plot armour (robot, beast companions, magical store) keeps him safe while he's surrounded by scary experts.

The best part of the novel is the humour. Bu Fang is stoic, unflappable, and totally, seriously focused on becoming a God of Cooking. As countless experts are all worked up trying to obtain some priceless treasure, Bu Fang walks in, chops up a yummy looking spirit beast/high grade herb, and cooks/eats it in front of them all. As giant spirit beasts attack a city, Bu Fang is super excited at all the fresh high quality ingredients coming to him. He is so focused on cooking that nothing else matters to him, not all the other sect's power plays. I love the many uses of his magic wok. I laughed so hard when he attended the alchemist competition in chapters 490-500 and disrupted/shocked everyone speechless with this chef antics...

One of my favourite quotes: "A simple plate made a Supreme-Being like him burst out into tears. Not to mention the fact that it almost killed an eighth grade War-God.... He stared at Bu Fang in fright. As it turned out, chefs were terrifying existences as well... Even a dish almost killed him..."

Criticism: I rarely read cultivation novels, but they seem to start very lowly, then slowly level up to become the top of the universe. In order to do so, the ceiling keeps shifting. At the start, cultivating to the 3rd grade is a goal and the strongest person is 6th grade. Then the strongest people are 8th grade and everyone else is an ant. Then, 9th (or is it 10th?) Supreme beings are ants and 6 new levels are revealed to be above that... Every cultivation ceiling becomes a new floor, and multiple new, more powerful levels are revealed. It makes it seem like every hard-earned level before was just rubbish. As each superlative end goal is overshadowed by even higher grades, the descriptions become more and more difficult to comprehend. Expanding to the size of a mountain, suppressing all to spitting blood, etc. I find this constant shifting of power levels hard to keep track of/acclimatize to.

Criticism: Again, I'm not sure if this is common to Xuanhuan novels, but every single female has a heavenly beautiful face and their shapely legs, large bust, and voluptuous figure are explicitly mentioned. Even in Chapter 6, Bu Fang thinks, "What a nice chest and ass... She has a great figure!" This was weird and out of place, as Bu Fang has no interest in anything but cooking delicious food. There's even a female character unfortunately nicknamed Big B-bs An. After 550 chapters, and hundreds of characters, there are now 3 exceptions: one young girl who works in the store (who is repeatedly referred to as a "loli" but is more like a tween), an old ugly woman who dies a quick death, and a young burly alchemist.

So far, the novel consists of shorter quests. If there were an overarching plot to this 1851 chapter novel, or the chapters were translated faster for free, I'd give it 5 stars.

This was my first "food cooking cultivation" novel, so I can't say how it compares to others. I'd recommend it as a fun relaxing read. It's not big on fighting or character development, there's no real emotional drama or angst, it really focuses on the adventures of a calm chef who loves to pursue new food and his delicious dishes in an ancient chinese fantasy world where magical powers abound. Also, the descriptions of the dishes are really mouth-watering and delicious. I just try to ignore the overemphasis on the women's bodies and the confusing/changing cultivation standards. I do wish that Bu Fang had a way to communicate with his original store just to make sure things/friends were doing okay while he continues his adventures afar. <<less

This is an actually better-translated and written CN novel. It has enough prose (in English, at least) to not suffer from the usual stilted-ness and difficulty in reading/transitional flow to actually be readable (which is honestly incredibly difficult to find in most translated CN series for native English-speakers). That alone gives it two stars.

The setting is a bit underexplained (it assumes a lot of understanding of common xianxia tropes, such as ranked "cultivators" of martial/spiritual power roaming around like demi-gods in society freely), but it doesn't linger on it beyond... more>> just needing to let you know what's going on (of which it excels and is very clear).

The reason I give this fun and enjoyable series 4/5 stars is mostly due to the unbalanced characterization. In all honesty, without offense, the MC is probably an autistic person. I'm not saying that as some PC-insertion of diversity or to be insulting: he legitimately shows several autism traits in how he interacts with others.

The MC is solely, utterly dedicated to his desire to be a "god of cooking in a fantasy world" (with really nothing in 253 chapters really explaining his previous background or life before coming to the series setting), shows little to no understanding of basic social nicety or even tact, and unless it involves him or his want for improving cooking around him, he has no interest (and often times it's implied he doesn't understand) in being "nice" or even helpful. His friends dying or being hit around him? He lets his (even less explained) ultra-robot handle ruffians ONLY if they're messing with his shop/him. He's feeding imperial family members? "Order something in-person, no takeout, or GTFO." Not even recognizing that powerful (and honestly nice!) people have come to visit him outside of his singleminded obsession with improving himself according to his cheat "System" (which gives him objectives to complete in exchange for recipes). As a kicker, he's not even MEAN; he just seems that he's literally mentally unable to consider the feelings of others as particularly important except in very rare cases where he HAS to show a give-and-take social interaction. He DOES have a personality, it's just uninteresting to follow due to his psychological disorder.

To compensate for this, all the other characters, even if they're rather simple in description (and often stereotypical, such as the honorable-but-discarded-prince and the delicate-beauty-who-is-actually-a-combat-master to the selfish-but-pure-and-cute-little-girl) are interesting, fun, and genuinely cool people. The entire series revolves around people who gather around the MC (who, despite the author's efforts, comes off less as cool and more as a lazy, tactless game player "grinding objectives" while real people around him gush over his power).

It truly is worth a read at least. The MC isn't annoying or s*upid as in other series (he's just really weird). You will have 4/5 stars worth of fun. <<less

General overpowered main character based on a cooking setting. Side characters can be interesting, but the main character simply doesn't have a personality. It'd be better to say that the 'game' system he's in is more of a MC than he does. I'm pretty sure if he got a quest that said "Slap yourself in the face for 10 XP", he'd get slapping. The 'rules' the author puts in place are inconsistent - right at the beginning, a 'no sharing' rule gets implemented, then gets conveniently forgotten, then gets arbitrarily... more>> re-implemented later on. The system is overpowered, and everybody treats the MC as something of awe, when all of the 'impressive skills' the MC is supposed to have are developed offscreen and lack a good comparison. If you want a random power escalation fantasy, go nuts. However, it's only the side characters that really make things potentially bearable - the core character set is just boring. <<less

probably the best cooking novel. Then again I have not read many others so cant say. But well this is enjoyable. Honestly speaking I dont like so much description so I just skip those but the story brings a smile to your lips. Good comedy, not the generic arrogant MC. Well he is just deadpan u could say and someone who has character. Whether his character becomes more enriched in the future or not, is a test of time. I am excited how this will fold in later date

for now... more>> - 4/5 <<less
