Trash of the Count’s Family

When I opened my eyes, I was inside a novel.

[The Birth of a Hero].

[The Birth of a Hero] was a novel focused on the adventures of the main character, Choi Han, a high school boy who was transported to a different dimension from Earth, along with the birth of the numerous heroes of the continent.

I became a part of that novel as the tr*sh of the Count’s family, the family that oversaw the territory where the first village that Choi Han visits is located.

The problem is that Choi Han becomes twisted after that village, and everyone in it, is destroyed by assassins.

The bigger problem is the fact that this s*upid tr*sh who I’ve become doesn’t know about what happened in the village and messes with Choi Han, only to get beaten to a pulp.

“…This is going to be a headache.”

I feel like something serious has happened to me.

But it was worth trying to make this my new life.

In the vein of The Novel's Extra and Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, we again find an MC who is stuck inside the world of a novel that he has either created or read. In this case however, the MC is not aware of the entire plot from start to finish, as he had only read partway through it before he awakens in the body of the titular tr*sh.

It's unavoidable for me to read it without comparing it to TNE and ORV, since at the core it is a very similar story.... more>> And I think one aspect that TotCF fails at is how much of the established story we are told about before it's relevant. It means a lot of "wasted" time is spent info-dumping the reader with future events that might have no bearing later on as the course of the story gets changed. It also has an added side-effect of locking the author somewhat into a certain direction. TNE and, to a lesser extent, ORV handles this much better and large parts of the story ahead of us is vaguely talked about and it only really hones in on the parts of it that are relevant for the MC's current situation. I don't know if TNE and ORV's authors had an overaching story plotted out in advance, but this method means that IF they do need to make changes at some point, they've not already entangled themselves into a specific course and thus are more free to make changes.

Because of this, a lot of TotCF's story feels like it's floundering at the starting line, not really getting off to a proper beginning, when a lot of this time would be better spent developing the character's in front of us and the plot in general. It feels like a lot of conversations are there only to fill up a little bit of wordcount and is unnecessary.

I might be coming off as quite negative, but it is still very early on in a story that has some potential.

So my far too early, unnecessary score for now is a solid 3.5/5 which I'll round up to a 4 for now. <<less

Eh... My stance is kind of funny. Like it's not bad, but definitely over-hyped? Like the characters are fun and good. The environment is okay. The writing can be iffy at times but it's not bad. It's pretty average? And I'm not sure why it's popular aside from the fact it's a no romance web novel with a male protagonist that's (allegedly) was a normal guy who was transmigrated. I'm aware it's not exactly that, don't worry, but still... It's slow but not in a good way? Like not quite... more>> 'slow' but it feels meaningless as it meanders at times? I agree that some of the characters are fun! (Some.) and The world building is definitely There!

No, yeah that's it. It's what I would define a... time-waster webnovel? If I'm to be honest? Like all the interesting and meaningful stuff... doesn't supply enough motivation beforehand to reach it? It's honestly tiring to read at times and some parts of it escapes me. Not because it's difficult... just purely because I have to wonder... Does it matter? Not a bad novel though, so if you really want a novel with stereotypical quirky side characters that these types of characters usually have, go for it. Just... expect it to fall a little flat. I wish there was also... more real feeling of something at stake? Like sure the whole thing is this guy who wants peace in his life, and honestly I think that's fantastic! If you Look Into that after reading! But at times it's just kind of... doesn't work...? And the 'misunderstandings' kind of stop being funny and quirky after a while.

Not bad in all... Just feel like there are definitely better stuff that do this exact concept out there... Sorry Cale sir... Maybe me reading slowly is giving you the break you wanted...? <<less

I am dreading the fact that I caught up with the updates and I can’t jump into the future to read the complete novel ʕ •︣ - •︣ʔ

Usually reading novels with 500+ would eventually tire me out but I didn’t even realise I’ve already read 700+ and I am still wishing for more. What more can I say, I love everything about this novel. The plot, pacing, world building, characters, their developments, their relationships, etc. I can’t find a single thing to hate nor do I find anything lacking.

Glorious! Very well written and translated and I absolutely love the MC! Many of the characters show signs of depth and it's quite refreshing that he doesn't have a focus on personal power- all the powers he's tried to accumulate so far have been focused on self-defense.

I’m almost caught up but I absolutely love this novel it made my heart pump, made me almost cry, made me laugh, etc. I love the side characters and I love Cale so much. There’s constant fighting in the novel if you aren’t down for that but each fight scene is so detailed and there were especially some heart moving battles that were extremely amazing to read. There’s always some plot twist the novel kept surprising me. There’s also no female lead or romance (so far) which is surprising cause... more>> all I read is romance usually but I really like that there’s no romance in this cause if Cale gets with someone I’ll probably be upset now cause I’m now a simp for him. <<less

Honestly.

This story is just too good. It's always a question of taste but I can say that there is a clear patern with the "bad" reviews: they have not read the story until the end (or at least as far as we can now). Which is more than understable, who would read hundreds of chapters of something the don't like? But clearly the story was made to be developped over such a long time, it's obvious that character development would take time and all.

I only have one advice. Read it... more>> and see for yourself. It's definitely worth it.

Every single character, plot point, scheme and witty remarks and interactions and it's just so so good <<less

Dammm... this novel is the best, it’s too good that I’m speechless. I just can’t.. it’s too good, the characters feels so alive, even the villains. The plot is freaken awesome and reading every chapters feels so good.

Anyway, are you sure this isn’t shounen ai? Cause man the amount of times Clein slept inside the Crown Prince bedroom is kinda sus... hehe

I just love this novel.. especially that the author didn’t add some romance.. ahhh it’s the best. Keep it up author.

No matter how much I used to love a novel, I had never been moved to the point of writing a review.

NOW, TCF HAS BROKEN MY RECORD

Seriously, this novel is god's gift to this genre, I SWEAR. A smart and practical protagonist who is powerful (yet reasonably so!) but knows to rely on and cares for the people around him (and also knows to realistically use the people around him whether they are initially good or bad), a wonderful and fleshed-out side cast that is unique and have their own... more>> moments to shine and develop, AND excellent writing and foreshadowing that leaves me gasping in revelation always. What more do you have to ask for? Every arc leaves me more awed than the previous, with what I find to be the perfect pacing and speed of developments. Of course, some find the issue of the beginning being 'slow' or how the protagonist 'spoils' what will happen, but let me assure you all that they are handled in much better ways than other novels of the same genre. This novel is definitely a cut above the rest in my opinion.

Moreover, even with how easily I get bored with stories (especially stories of this trope), TCF has kept me engaged and enjoying every moment of reading it for the past 600+ chapters or so.

Misunderstandings are also of the more hilarious type and none of that dog-blood despairingly bitter shenanigans. Since this is my first ever review and I'm trying to keep things as spoiler-free as possible, I'd love to say that TCF is worth your time. It's also worth re-reading in my opinion. TCF is a masterpiece. <<less

well, how can I say it? Im desperate to search this kind of novel. NO HAREM, FULL OF FRIENDSHIP, BROMANCE? HAHAHA

the MC of this novel is good head, he is smart but s*upid at same times. Strong and weak at same times too. The MC want to live peaceful, slack off, or whatever he say but in reality he bulldozing his path toward become a hero, hahaha. Im not over rating it, but its definitely worth to get 5 star!

if you search MC who really get over protective by his... more>> friends, the MC who can make other tearing without himself understand why, The MC who really treasured wherever he go, the MC who always faints and coughed blood, the weak MC but look strong, then you must pick this novel! The most I like thing from this novel is, NO HAREM!! Its bromance lol hahaha, <<less

I have enjoyed this novel since the beginning, it's honestly one of the best transmigration novels I have ever read.

The character development is very good, so it feels like you are also going on the adventure with the characters

Spoiler

.I like the fact that is explains quite a bit on white star, it shows that he hasn't just been looking for those ancient powers only he made an organisation, he also created a city though we know that he doesn't care about both of them but it is not shows that his 1000 Years of life I was not for nothing he he did things

The plots is really nice and what I love the most is that it's not a harem and I love that Cale could have avoided the fight from the beginning but chooses not to

[collapse]

One of the comments was saying that the plot isn't good and is very cliche but to me this novel is way better than most transmigration that you see around, those that change the story and end up being surrounded by a lot of girls and is way to OP and is wondering how it came to this and then drag the rest of the novel out like slice of life, Cale understand why he is the centre of the battle and we see a lot of character development from everyone. I for one think the author did an amazing job in carrying the audience with him and also the characters.

I am really interested to know what happens next because even after 500 chapters it's stil not boring or does it feel like it's just dragging the novel. <<less

《EDT》

there's some pros and cons, I agree with both side that said this was (quiet) good and bad

... more>> + the plot and story background, in the early chapter were quiet nonsense but some was revealed with reasonable story building (e.g., a tortured dragon since birth by a less-than duke-title heir)

- the character building was a bit lacking compared to it (e.g., MC didn't undergo rebirth but isekai-ed and possessed an adult body. While it's ok, I don't get it why og family didn't feel weird about the 'new Cale', especially his butler and the chef... they're a very observant character. It's either a plot-hole or KRS had same 'characteristic' such as habit, walking, unconscious reaction toward something, etc. They just admitted it 'new Cale' changed his attitude

- at the beginning, lot of useless words were used as word-fillers (e.g., "The two of them, no, all three of them..." ; " (name) didn't know but (another name) 's (....) is (....) because (name) 's gaze is 1. Already turned back to the another one, or 2. Staring at the plate, and so on.")

+ starting from whale arc, it's gotten better

- but starting from c400ish, it's chewing-gum to milk legal readers. (This was on early c400ish, when the protag-mage had a 'duel' of being the 'strongest' than other as mage, iirc it took 2-3 or 4 chapters to finish that boring event. Yes, it could be skip, just read the beginning and the last description and you won't skip any story. In short it's like seeing two students compare their exams score and whose the highest)

- 'wrong' imagination/words-selected (e.g., ".... the kittens wagged their tails" or something because the kitten supposed to be very interested in something. They're not dog. ; apparently the baby dragon had soft paw...)

- in the early chapters, "Hoo ha hoo ha ah tsk" were like salt, too many put into one plate and the taste was not good.

- I don't get 'Cale' body anatomy. He was alcoholic and tr*sh but apparently he's not like that beer-bellied typical bxstrxd *shrug, afaik he even ended up not being a lean ripped man but more like an idol-body (?) based on the desc. when it's written he loss more muscle compared to 1st day as 'Cale'

- the biggest flaw/nonsense was almost no one died if they're needed to be saved to [give reaction]

Spoiler

'They are crying with joy that they are alive! Chaos, destruction, happiness!'
'They all seem to have gotten scared after seeing the black mages. They seem happy that they were able to be saved.'

[collapse]
— it's just a bunch of extra, taken as hostages, and yeah bother not killing them... they're just for 'bxllshxt talks'. Those were war, but it's completely one-sided while the power was 50:50 when the antagonist White Star entered the chat. What I meant was the enemy had lot of causalties, but the allies only exhausted and worn out, but almost never in mortal danger... that's including the so-called 'citizen' I just can't imagine how the layout of the war to be like that :/ <<less

I have to say, this is one of the few novels I keep up with their updates because it's SO GOOD. Okay some people may find this story repetitive but I like it. The MC is always saying that he wants to live a slacker's life and the plot is created through him solving the main problems of the story to achieve his desired lifestyle. The MC is also viewed as weak in the beginning of the story by all the other characters but as the story progresses, you will... more>> find that their views do change about him.

Also I seriously recommend this novel to those who like the tag: misunderstandings. Let's get this straight. If you gave this novel a bad review just because you found that everyone around the MC doesn't seem to realize his true intentions
Spoiler

and often believes that he's doing is for the good of the people, which is often not the case

[collapse]
, then you're reading the wrong novel. You will see this tag's nature oftentimes throughout the whole novel so if you dislike this theme then I suggest you read something else.

The world development is great in this story, it's quite solid and I would rate it 4.5/5.

The character development may be a bit slow, the MC doesn't change much since he's the one who does the changing (to other characters). The tag: Loyal Subordinates isn't just for show, the MC is surrounded by strong people and this novel places lots of emphasis on doing things together as a group, with your comrades so it's rare to see the MC fight off problems on his own (but it doesn't mean that doesn't appear in the novel). The main goal doesn't change though, so that's something rare in novels which are long winded. I would rate this 3.5/5.

The translation is on point, no worries about grammar or spelling so this is definitely a 5/5.

I'm not a huge fan of spoiling the book so please read it and give it a chance/try, it may be a bit slow in the beginning but it definitely gets better. <<less

I loved this story since the first chapter! It got me immediately hooked!

The MC is the type of person that is too lazy to care but still does because he wants to live a life of a slacker. And by doing so the story-line go kinda off thanks to him. But this is a good thing! Even though he did what he did because of his final objective, a luxurious slacker's life. He still brought faith in many people who didn't have it! I don't understand how can someone even... more>> hate this novel! The MC is such super amiable for me! I mean, he got that perfect scheming mind and a sort-of kind heart! And also have a tendency to save people, but not when saving others means hurting his own people! Yes! Cale is a very responsible kid if I may say so.

Spoiler

Also the protagonist of the story develop a very strong (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) sense of devotion towards the MC.

Edit:

I'm mind blown. *BOOM* The story hits me the biggest plot-twist ever. Everything is connected. E. V. E. R. Y. T. H. I. N. G. And again. Those damn feels won't leave me. I'm crying rivers of tearsss. <<less

Whew, this is that Good-Good I'm always lurking for.

Grammar: 4/5

Writing: 4.2/5

... more>> Story: 3.9/5

Grammar is well done, almost perfect, though a few mistakes and word flow stumbles occur it is more than readable. The writing is well done, the story is logical to a certain extent with motivations for the actions that the characters take with consequences playing out in amusing ways. The story is a mashup of a few common troupes with a nice little twist thrown in.

Overall, a really nice read. I just pray that the quality in the translation, the author's writing style, and the story don't drop. <<less

Forgive me! I don't know how to add a star! I want to give five stars! But somehow there is only one star!! I'm so sad T~T!! I'm so badddd!!!!

Damn it! I really like this story! I swear! This is crazy!

This is the best Novel in my whole life reading thousands of Novels!

... more>> This novel is so unusual that it feels realistic!! I really like how the writer put the MC like that!

I also really like the developments in every chapter that I read so I will continue to be curious to the point that I don't even realize how immersed I am in the story.

I really admire how the writer made this story full of emotion! Sad, happy, whatever it is. This story is packed very, very well! Especially during sad scenes, it gets to readers like me to the point where my eyes swell from it.

I also like how this story is very detailed until I understand where the story is going.

I really like MC Cale, he is my version of Ideal MC, because well even though full of misunderstandings (btw I really like that actually) He is also very smart, cunning, and not like other naive novel MCs.

The friendship here is also very deep and how the writer conveys implicit information that will be useful in the next chapter is extraordinary!

I've read all the chapters! But I always feel less! That's why I keep re-reading this novel!! Thanks to the author who has made this extraordinary novel!!

I really like it because along the way this novel has no romance!t That makes this novel even more amazing!!

And the only novel I have read to the end and keep repeating it!

Damn it?! I am so addicted to this story!! <<less

I'm 321 chapters in and it just feels long, superficial, minimal character development. There are certainly enough interesting world aspects to the story, how magic and ancient powers,
Spoiler

dark matter, dark elves, necromancers

[collapse]
, history etc interweave. However characters feel very one dimensional, as if they exist to admire the MC and idolise him, taking every act of his into their hearts. I'm hopeful that the world aspects will nicely round themselves out. Would describe this novel as a light long read, where you don't have to think, get to witness a lazy, lucky MC easily overcome endless difficulties, surrounded by people he takes under his wings, who he would save from their unfortunate fates, who in turn would dedicate their lives to protect and idolise the MC.

Take note that this novel has been written for five years and the author has made progression on their writing ability. You might not like it early on, but they really improved over the years. I feel that around chapter 300ish is where things start to take a turn.

The story, the characters, the main enemy. Everything starts kicking off later on and its only PART ONE.

I honestly love characters that do that self-sacrificing thing, but not with the intention of dying because they want to LIVE of course. AND it's... more>> neither a harem or love interest. Honestly, I feel like romance would kill this story, I'd rather friendship and comradery than love and marriage. <<less

But all the things happen for reason which won't get answers for hundreds of chapter later and when we finally got the answer, it was masterpiece. I'm in love with this novel and it's world. The humor is just my type and sure it kind of repeat with how they win almost easily all the time but it's to be expected since the MC knows the story to a point. One of the things I love the most is MC personality and the way he lay his plans and of course the lovely children and how they all develop in the story.

I can barely wait for the next chapter ❤️ ❤️
