Jiang Hu’s Road is Curved

Description

Alone, Pang Wan entered the Jiang Hu[1]. Her dream was to become a pure lady [2], to find her destined other half.

To fulfill this dream, everyday, she would dress elegantly in white and sit in the teahouse to admire handsome men and read her novels.

She heard, the demonesses [3] related to Jiang Hu were all, depending on their martial arts capabilities, divided into groups of three, six and nine.

Currently, the evil woman, who had the beauty of a blossoming flower, who had a heart like snakes and scorpions, who could kill at such a young age, was a once in a century’s peerless demoness.

She also heard that the demoness had came down the mountains to challenge the Wu Lin [4] champion Gu Xi Ju, to take the title of number one and to wreck havoc in the Jiang Hu.

Yet again she heard that all those who had decent martial arts skills vowed to get rid of this witch.

Aiyaya, it’s not good! Isn’t this demoness her? She did not kill the person! She did not start the fire!

This infamous name of the demoness is also not what she wanted!

Looks like Jiang Hu’s road is very curved, she’d better run!

—–

[1] Literally translated as rivers and lakes. Refers to the pugilist world.

[2] Direct translation: A lady like a White Lotus, meaning pure.

[3] Not exactly the supernatural kind. It’s kind of a name for the women of Jiang Hu.

[4] Wu Lin meaning martial arts.

story : 5/5

characters : 5/5

writing style : 5/5

... more>> world building : 4/5

There's 2 things that are impressive in this novel : character development and the story's depth.

One of the bad point of a lot of novel is that the characters are 2d, too simple, or that the author forget his characters after some point. Here, you'll get a really good character development for every character !

For the story... it's a real jiang hu world (ya know, where the pugilist makes clan, where there's a bad against evil organization in a somehow ancient china) with the dark side, the schemes, the lies & betrayals... The bad isn't totally black and the good isn't entirely white either.

The interesting point is how the author keeps making you surprised about the characters, around chapter.. 57 (?), I was saying "oh my god" for each revelation and I said a few while reading 5min non-stop x'D

The read is really good, the story isn't all rose-colored even when our FL has a typical mary sue mindset that came with her previous life. The story is good, full of plot-twist that isn't "too much". The writing is beautiful and the translation really good too (with some syntax here and there but just a few).

tldr : a really good story with romance as the guideline, not the main focus. The characters are superbly depicted with depth. Read it if you want an interesting story

NB: the synopsis isn't a quote from the story, the tone is a bit more serious. Don't think about who is the ML when you read, I seriously think it stops you from entirely diving into the story. (don't read the translator's note at the end of chap either for same reason). BUT, the story has quite a lot of foreshadowing and a second read would be nice, you can then read and comment and enjoy it better ^^ <<less

Oh my God, it was so unbearable reading through the first half the this web novel, I basically had to take a couple of breathers as intermittent breaks just to calm down. Whatever novel you have read before this, of smart protagonists, calm ones, ones where looks could kill, drop all of those ideas in your head.

***VERY MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD***

Prepare yourself to meet the most vain, shallow and pedestrian main character ever (at least in my books). I almost thought that the second half of this novel would never be... more>> able to make up for the indignation I felt towards the MC in the first half. Be patient however. Like me, it might just come to you as a surprise for the very uplifting character development she has later on.

Rated 5/5 for how the author played with my feelings <<less

ONE OF THE BEST NOVELS I READ!!! I love reading the development stages of the FL, and how in the end, she found love that will love her for who she is.

This is such a wonderful read! I swear, you will definitely not regret starting this story. :)

I advise that you don't read anymore reviews as it might spoil you...

I was definitely not expecting the events in the book at all! The first half is absolutely hilarious. Yes, MC can get really annoying (despite the humor) in the beginning, but if you stick it out, you'll be able to see such a flawed/naive/spoiled princess grow into someone super cool and awesome. I absolutely love the character development and the unpredictable twist in the middle. I highly admire the author for writing it.

ML was a bit refreshing as well. He doesn't fall for her at first sight and wasn't affected... more>> by her looks at all (also MC's looks are just nice, not world-defying or gorgeous, to her depression haha) ; their relationship was more of something that slowly grew over time. Pretty cute!

I recommend this to people who want a break from the conventional web novel plots. The first half of the novel is pretty much a complete parody of stereotypes. <<less

The first half of the novel kind of s**ked because the main girl was really vain and spoiled. It started getting better afterwards, so don't give up on it yet. The male lead was not who I thought it was going to be. Lots of twists and turns and jaw dropping secrets. I liked how the main girl started to grow up after getting through some heartbreaking moments. There are some touching parts and some action.

This novel is one of the best I read. Not too tragic nor too fluffy. The FL just want a normal love yet the path is not easy for her. She is hit by crazy adventures and meeting strange people. She started out naive, but the ways of the world and experience made her wiser. You don't know who the ML is until halfway through. FL's transformation is heartbreaking yet touching. There are funny moments which kept it interesting. DEFINITELY recommend!... more>>

By the times other male leads notice the FL, it is too late because she now knows what she truly wants.

I read this a while ago, and forgot to make a review.

This is amazing, there was so many surprises. I liked that I got to feel new things, like mixed emotions. I also like the approach the author had with this. I loved how all characters evolved somehow or another. This is like a master piece. (Plot twist really do exist *eyes sparkle*)

I'm still confused till now, what exactly was going through that nut jobs head? Did he like her? Was he just obsessed? What was he trying to do in the end? I think it is the first time I completely didn't understand a character. But that makes it more realistic if he is really insane.

[collapse]

I love how everything came together. It moved at a good paste, and the ending didn't make me bald. Though I didn't really like the MC in the beginning, (to ignorant) I loved how she grew, I actually got to see her "grow up" Though it was harsh.

READ IT!

Also, rate it on its writing, not if you liked it. That's not how you review things.

Anyways, I find this novel pretty original, and refreshing in a weird way. It's been a while since I've read it, but I think the translation was well done. <<less

I liked this quite a bit, it was amusing, but there was also sad moments. Quite a twist on expectations on some parts but overall I think it ended happily. My ship sailed so I'm ok with the twist although I feel really bad for the protagonist.

A sweet story about growing up and finding yourself. In the beginning, the MC was no obnoxious and narcissistic that I was very tempted to drop this novel, but I'm now thankful that I persevered. The only complain I have is that I wasn't sure who the ML was and thus did know know who to ship her with. I was so indecisive and it wasn't until well past half way into the story that I knew for certain who the ML was (I mean, what if I shipped the... more>> wrong guy and my ship sank? : (I don't want that...). I would have preferred a longer epilogue and a more concrete ending, but overall I enjoyed this novel very much. <<less

This novel has caused me 'great' grief because wan wan had her heart crushed by that I'm sorry, as*hole GYX! Like he seriously stabbed her not once, twice. Sigh... unknowingly the guy who was the coldest suitor ended up being the guy who is the best, kind and trusting person. What about nian yi tho? Anyways it's a really good romance novel with martial arts! And you get to know a girls view in a world of peerless handsome men. It's also very different from the norm where the MC girl reincarnate into a useless lady of some clan and is extremely dominating and well s*upid. This MC grows in character and becomes well fleshed out and thought out. Definitely a recommend!!!

The story starts as a really shallow story with soon-to be expected poorly developed story and character. But then, the novel started to become better and the story developed in an unexpected way. As you read the story, you would start to get the clearer view of everything that's been bothering you in the initial plot. The weakness of the story is that fact that the development of the story is very slow so you would be left wanting for more. The world building was also not properly executed but... more>> I have only been reading up to chapter 63 so it could be a little early to judge. For the characters, I am totally in love with the MC and the male lead and hope to see more. Definitely worth to read and to follow. <<less

A super interesting story that starts out with a hilarious premise. A MC that comes from the land of Mary-Sues.

The tragedy and schemes that followed is really beyond my expectations. I even shed tears for some of the scenes.

About Nan Yi:

I did not expect him to be the non-biological son of the Sect Leader. He too, had a tragic time.

So far it's pretty good for a short read. Could have further elements, but then again, it has a different focus—which is vanity lmao jk— compared to other novels.

The climax, revelations, etc., to the end. Hmmmm... Idk what to say. It's a bit meh. At least it's Happy Ending!

What the hell is this novel???

Just what did I read? I will tell you I could only last 27 chapters with my extraordinary level of patience.

The story until what I read could have been interesting but because of the female lead it became an absolute farce. I mean how can such a self-centered b**** who thinks everyone loves her and she is the female lead exist? Even if the author wanted to introduce a new trope, they have failed according to me. The female lead, Pang Wan has many psychological... more>> issues and she must get her brain checked and not roam in Jiang Hu annoying people. Sorry, author, you have written a relatively big novel and I commend you for that but why didn't you leave some brain for the female lead or some more dignity/self-esteem more than the scene where she says, "I won't kneel, "?

This novel tested my patience. Honestly, the three male leads as far as I read are all scumbags. I gave up reading further and skipped to the last chapter to at least have a conclusion of the final male lead.

And finally, I want to ask a question. I believe that the 21st century has brought great changes to people's mindsets and the status of women has vastly improved. Why are authors writing such novels belittling women? Why always make the female lead poor, weak, naive, s*upid and the male lead rich, strong, smart and intelligent, the complete opposite. Where is equality? I trusted the summary because the story felt interesting and new but to think it has disappointed to a great extent that for the first time I willingly wrote a review on novel updates.

All the people planning to read this novel, take my heed if you want - read it only if you can stand a foolish female lead believing she is the main character of the mary sue world and that everyone should fall in love with her and if they don't she'll pester them until she betrayed and brought ruins by them and still be a masochist and be good to them.

That one star is for author. Sorry, I see there are many good reviews but once I read the spoilers I couldn't take it. Again this is my opinion, so it's your choice. <<less

This novel clearly mocks other mary sue novels!

At first the FL and her delusions really annoyed me. But the plot twist and ending really surprised me.

I loved the character development of the FL, the way she began to appreciate herself and what she had (though she paid a great price for her disillusionment.)

I also liked the tsundere ML.

The novel is serious with comedy vibe. Really enjoyed it ^_^

I've read this in 2016 and I can still remember the title until now. This is really one of the best novels out there and I'm quite disappointed to see people commenting that this is sh*t when they didn't even bother reading until the end. The chapters near the end are a game-changer.

One of the best. She gets betrayed by the person she trusts but then she rises from the ashes and lands firmly on the ground after her fall. And the story is not myopic. There are things at work that are not visible to the reader. It is only when the pieces come together that we see the overall effect of the plot.

The characters are shrouded in a thick fog and only later will the reader know what really happened and the effect their actions have on the main character.

The... more>> back story drives the story forward and the MC is ultimately caught up in it. But she learns from the experience and her mistakes.

And the ML is super tsundere. He visits the girl in her hometown. She for her part practically had the kitchen work night and day in order to to receive him grandly. But then he finds out that she did not cook any of the dishes offered to him. He has a tantrum, then after five minutes, orders his girl to cook him dinner.

I guess he has to mark his territory since he very well knows the girl likes a guy before him. Cute story. Worth the read. <<less

This story made me laugh so hard I cried. I had fun reading it.

This story made my heart hurt so terribly I cried - at least four times. At one point, I didn't want to read on, scared of the pain I uneasily felt that I'd be feeling in the future.

If I call this a romance novel, I feel like that isn't entirely correct. But if I say that this isn't a love story, I think I'd be wrong.

... more>> But mostly, this is Pang Wan's story.

It's not the greatest love story in the world, though it is a good one. It's not the most impeccably plotted novel with master class schemes that all tie back to subtle sentences in the beginning, though it has a bit of that too. I was surprised, multiple times, reading it. It's not the most incredible adventure story in the world, though I had fun exploring the world along with the protagonist.

What it is, is a great story.

When I first searched on series finder, I wanted a novel with a female protagonist, that had some action and adventure, and a good bit of romance too. I got what I wanted, and I fell in love with it.

And with the protagonist.

She - and a lot of the other characters - go through incredible character development. My first impression of her was a cute but spoiled girl, arrogant yet innocent. Some people (like me) might like this kind of character, a lot of others might not.

But by the end of the story, I couldn't help but love her.

There's a reason this has such a high rating. If you give it a try- I found the first couple of chapters a bit hard to understand, but it gets a lot easier to read after that. And the translation's great, too. Rereading them after I finished the novel, they've become easy to understand.

I'm definitely going to reread this, and I think it'll be a completely different experience the second way around. I'm looking forward to it. <<less
