Earth Online – a virtual MMORPG that takes place in the future year of 2190 – a game that everyone will bet their futures on. Set in a map that is ten times the size of real-world Earth, players battle for supremacy in the first game to feature personal adventure, territory construction, and grand warfare. For every death you experience in the game, your level would drop back to zero. Ouyang Shuo, an above average player, suffered the ultimate betrayal. For merely a piece of equipment, his sworn brother betrayed and backstabbed him. This time, after he reincarnated in the game, Ouyang Shuo swore to exact vengeance.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, Ouyang Shuo found himself back five years before the betrayal – right before the launch of Earth Online. This time, armed with the knowledge from his past life, Ouyang Shuo would venture upon a new path.

How to perfectly complete quests? What historical battle maps would appear? How should one build up their territory? Utilizing the experience from the predecessors of his last life, Ouyang Shuo makes his bid for the top against all odds. Follow his journey as he seeks to lord over the world!

A different kind of tale that blends historical characters and virtual reality gaming, with heavy emphasis on kingdom building and warfare.

Too disappointment in story on building part fill with no impact to the world thing like a character status in Isekai novel, lately I even skip some building chapter and don't feel missing anything to drag me back to read chapter I skip.

War part is ok if you treat it as a part of action movie not view it as epic historic battlefield like in Romance of the three kingdoms.

About character in this story... a typical characters of too many cultivator MC novel.

Even if the story isn't a harem, it's still 95% females. This is definitely my biggest problem with the story, why so only women?!?

It's almost like the author thinks it's okay to throw in women everywhere, just because the army is filled with men.

I really love this novel very much. It combined what I like VR/Kingdom Building/Cleaver MC. For that review that just read about 24 or 110 are BULLSHIT. If you just dive in it more it gets very addicting. There are every reason for overpowered of the MC Most Importantly what I Found in this novel is that the MC is not into heram maybe he will be into it in the future but now I like him very much The way he handle thing is Perfect and you kind of see him improving more and more the way he thinks and do thing has changed. Overall right I absolutely in love with this.

Slower pace at beginning and become good pace now. No long fighting scene that takes few chapters to finish. The content is very interesting. The author makes very good effort on historical references. The author is Chinese so he seems lean toward his nation but not racist like other novels. He even researched on other countries' history. The war scenes are pretty well written. I assume the author has researched real geography/landscape before writing those plots. The interesting plots that keep me into it are the acquisition of new heroes,... more>> technology and war.

PS. Some readers complained about lack of conversations. But imo, that would drag story unnecessarily longer. Love interests are popping up here and there. But I'm fine with it. Too many historical characters and NPC mentioned. I admit I lost tracks. However, it's understandable because the author's plot is big. If you read Romance of Three kingdoms before, you'd be okay.

PS2: It would be great if the author or someone can provide map for China prefectures. <<less

The story is okay so far, but the monumental amount of whole chapters with nothing but information that has no real relevance to the story is annoying. I've started skipping chapters at this point because of all the mindless rambling. If this wasn't free, I'd quit reading it. Even though it's free, I might still quit reading it since the monotony from the history info dumps is quite mind-numbing.

I really wanted to like this novel, because it was right up my alley. However, I just couldn't push myself past chapter 85. The reason being that it is very dry.

The text is very well-written and flows well, but it feels like reading a game log: I built this, I built that, I talked to this person etc... Once I learned more about the world and the novelty wore off, I just found it hard to concentrate, and I was spacing out, even finding myself skipping some stuff.

Another bad thing... more>> is the severe lack of action. In a game which is advertised to be heavily focused on combat, this is terrible. I had read 85 chapters, but the severe lack of action was probably the primary reason I dropped it. Now don't get me wrong, the kingdom building aspect is great in this novel, and I appreciate it a lot. However, just reading about buildings being built is too boring. The action is too lacking, and once you do actually get some action, it ends in a few paragraphs. In regards to action, all we get is a basic outline.

Our forces are like this, their forces are like this, we used this strategy to defeat them, and we suffered this many casualties. This is the basic formula of the battles here, with no going into details or even trying to prolong it. It just ends in a paragraph or two.

Also, instances that will make you roll your eyes are also not lacking in this novel. For instance, there was a moment where the MC was talking about making an alliance with an NPC faction. The conditions that the MC had displayed were really good, but I felt like the NPC had accepted too quickly. Their primary reason for accepting - a shaman having a feeling that the MC was going to bring them good fortune. In a novel focusing more on realism, this is definitely bad. And there were many thing like this.

However, there is also a lot of good stuff about this novel that got me hooked at the beginning.

The characters are really well-written. Great generals make mistakes, officials who focus on people actually have their own ambitions etc... I believe that the characters are definitely one of the greatest things about this novel. Especially the MC's younger sister. She is just too damn cute!!

The MC is also a breath of fresh air in these times. In novels, nowadays, most MC's are either cowards who can't even go to the bathroom by themselves, or arrogant, homicidal psychopaths. But this MC is different. All his ambitions and hopes for success are tied to the fact that he wishes for his younger sister to have a better life. He doesn't get lost in the game world and spends time with her every day, cares about her and spoils her.

Furthermore, the MC is more of a people person, taking care of his followers and villagers. He even showed up at the wedding of a random villager!

Capabilities-wise, the MC is more of a commander than a fighter. He is capable of going to the front lines, but he isn't unbeatable and there are many people stronger than him. His true worth is in his brain. The MC is capable of cooking up schemes, and he shines when it comes to city management.

Which brings me to my third part, the city management. Like I mentioned before, this is a novel that focuses on city management. You will see how the MC raises a grand city from nothing. Every single reform, law, problem will be written in detail and taken step by step, allowing the reader to appreciate the birth of a prosperous city step-by-step.

Overall, like I said, this novel is still rather dry, with a severe lack of action. The text still reads more like a game log once it get to the VR world, and the leaps of logic was the straw that broke the camel's back. After reading 85 chapters, I give this 3/5 stars. <<less

"Based on the data from the exploring squad, the area of planet Hope was 10 thousand times that of the Earth. The land was very vast, and 1 billion migrants wouldn't make any waves when entering planet Hope." (184 ch)

For such area planet radius is about 640 000 km, about Sun size. Imagine surface gravity... life in such conditions is IMPOSSIBLE !!!

I could understand some cultivation novel, there they have different universal laws, but this is sci-fi, and all is happening in our univers.

Before this really s*upid part I... more>> quite liked this novel as sci-fi/game/cultivation mix, but after this everything became quite artificial, surreal. Pity... <<less

Engaging but dragged down by very poor translation quality. It seems to be edited machine translation and whoever edited it has bad understanding of English. Grammar errors are common and at least a minor one happens in pretty much every sentence, with some text fragments making no sense or being outright incomprehensible - for example by "thermal weapons" translator is referring to "firearms". Naming of items/skills/techniques is inconsistent and occasionally the same thing is called differently between chapters. Also for some bizarre reason while most proper nouns are written in... more>> pinyin (like Beihai town), a small group gets translated (like Friendship town). While not technically an error, it's weird to read and adds further inconsistency to translation. For a novel that takes numerous inspirations from history, well known historical names are also translated incorrectly (Rome Empire instead of Roman Empire being one of the smallest errors).

As for the plot, I only have 1 major complaint, specifically that MC's enemies (usually the exact same ones each time) constantly face fatal setbacks that supposedly should've ruined them, except they always somehow manage to recover. Why? We don't know, author leaves a plot hole every time someone loses their entire army and then magically gets a new, bigger, better trained and equipped one shortly later. The physics are also butchered (planet 10.000 times bigger than Earth supposedly being habitable by humans, as if laws of gravity magically changed overnight), but it's only mentioned once so it's not that much of a deal. <<less

Honestly, as far as cn novels go, especially vr ones, this one is among the top. I like the MC and how he evolves and matures as he deals with the responsibilities of being a lord. Supporting characters, while not always on screen, always have something to do, even in the background, that is relevant to either the MC or the plot. Enemies aren't static, they are smart and also different ftom each other. Every rival has a different approach or attitude toward the MC, and they also evolve. After... more>> the initial young mastery stuff, because in this setting it makes sense, the smart ones recognize and adapt to the mc's increasing strength. Romance isn't anything grandiose; just 2 people who found they like each other and whose lives don't revolve around the other, and also depend on the other's either power or influence.

All around, just a refreshing novel. At least so far. <<less

MC seems to have no goal to play the game, other MC'S have a goal of getting the girl they loved and such but for our MC it's nothing, Just wakes up and seems to be okay with going back 5 years before.

Reading this makes me wonder if anybody would play a game like this (I rather watch paint dry then play the game) since all our MC does is build/talk/repeat.

Long rant short: Terrible plot/game/MC.

Read if you like info dumps about building like Release the boring witch.

The novel is pretty slow but it's a good novel with no useless girls or helpers. It's a good mix of history, MMORPG, RTS, kingdom building. The description are well made and the references to China's history are really usefull if you don't know its history and legends. If you are interested in china history and geography, this novel is what you're looking for and the main enviroment and plot is pretty good.

Edit.

The novel goes on following a nationilistic view of the world where everything will bow to China. What... more>> I liked starting this novel was the costant battle between the MC against the whole world, even his own country leadership.

Spoiler

At the start of the Novel China was just one of the greatest country, but not the first, it was the fourth. But when he starts to conquer other countries, using his last life memories and technologies from other countries, this novel turns in a propandastic manifesto of the greatness of China. What actually disturbed me the most is the author's choice of USA, Russia and Italy as his main enemies and the only ones who deserve respect from the MC, where UK, France, German and Spain are rapresented as weak countries. It's easy to guess what is his idea of the other countries in Asia, all must be ruled by the 5000 years old China, with a particular hatred to Mongols and obviously Japanase.

[collapse]

I leave my 5/5 star rating becouse this novel shows me what's the general idea of chinese to the rest of the world. I think you can still enjoy it if you're interested in the MC plot and as I said when I did this review, it's really useful to know basic History of China and its geography. <<less

I find it quiet enjoyable to read but there has been no major conflict and the actual development of the character are taking much too long. I find the explanation of placements of generals etc to be confusing at best and pretty much a word count vomit. However there is a good story hidden in the mess. It’s a interest concept for VR

Started out okay but recently, it's fallen into the trope of coldness flashing and the thought that if they're not with me, they're against me.

So in other words, he's started to perform despicable actions for essentially no reason at all. It's a competition, to be sure, but there's no need for him to fall to the level of his enemies.

Great story with a lot of city building detail. Only fly in the ointment is that author can go a little history crazy during historic battles and can result in skimming several chapters.
