I am giving 5 stars not because this is a masterpiece novel or something, but simply cause I like it.

The novel is pretty similar to Mars's other vmmorpg games Shura's Wrath and Evil Dragon Agains The Heavens. All 3 novels feel similar yet different.

Now this is actually Mars Gravity's first novel and the things that people don't like in his other novels are even more apparent here, mainly - the racism against Japan.

Spoiler

There is a point in the game where the MC loses control of his Shura power, goes to the Japanese continent and for around 10 chapters in a row starts killing everything that has connection with Japan - he kills player, he kills npcs, he even kills the Japanese gods - literally leaving the Japanese server unplayable for a time.
Then there is the usual nationalism where Chinese are portrayed as the superior race in the world - there is a world competition where the MC beats the best players in the world without using his op sword, but using a novice sword and since there are gods in the story, at some point it is mentioned it is possible that the Western gods are ruled by the Chinese gods and so on. And by the end of the story MC's family has control over Japan.
But those things are normal for these kinds of stories, if you can ignore it (I know its hard) the rest of the story is pretty enjoyable.

Not for me, this novel.

The "mystery" and plot just sounds boring and I ended up skipping most of it as it was just alot of buddah and ancient china wanking.

The development is really poor and the MC just obtains everything without the slightest bit of effort

Might get better later but I'm not patient enough to find out.

This is by no means a serious story, but a lighthearted one that nudely and unashamedly sprints forward. Chinese nationalism from chapter one! The real world's unrealistic, and the virtual world's nonsensical. The MC's so OP and lucky, and only gets more OP every other chapter with new, unique, game-breaking abilities, that the only way you'll enjoy the story is if you enjoy watching him crap all over everything. Well, the MC admits that he has nothing better to do than to waste time all day (why is he even... more>> playing?). But there's no such thing as wasted time when the galaxy revolves around the MC.

Bothers a poor old man for half an hour? Gets secret information! Knocks on a door for fifteen minutes? Gains a unique quest! Reason doesn't matter since the MC's going to get rewarded for whatever he does. He's probably not going to have any enemies or competitors among other players, nor near-equals as allies, and he'll be off killing dragons when everyone else is struggling against goblins. <<less

UPDATE (c24) : For some reason this novel has stopped being fun to read. Maybe it's the stat dumps and infodumps about abilities I don't have any reason to care about. I get the feeling this novel is going to be a lot more focused on levelling up in the game system itself rather than the "mystery" or, I guess, fun stuff. Spending loads and loads of paragraphs describing the MC deciding which job to take, when it probably won't make any difference because the MC is OP and will... more>> never have any trouble defeating any enemies anyway, feels a bit of a waste of time. Probably it is quite hard to drop and come back to this kind of comedy novel.

Old review (c11) :

"Ding! Player Feng Hun, your despicable fighting method has made the Snow Wolf King's anger reach its limit. Silver Snow Wolf King being thoroughly enraged has completely absorbed the spirit energy accumulated within its body. It jumped levels and evolved to Level 30 Gold Boss Golden Snow Wolf Emperor."

I usually don't like reading MMORPGs but this one is actually quite fun to read! Jumps into the action straight away and the MC acts realistically, going straight for the levelling up route right from the get go rather than wasting his time walking around doing pointless quests. In addition the world has potential to be developed further as it looks like there is a proper backstory that will be revealed later on, and there is some teasers but no full-on infodumps like in some other stories. In other words it's the perfect mix of action and story.

By chapter 11 there were still no significant character interactions (the talking sword shouldn't really count as a character...) but given the way the story is going hopefully more interesting characters will come into the picture later on. I have high expectations for this. <<less

Mediocre novel, not much else to say. A sub-par novel that's centered on a MC whom the universe revolves around. His luck is s*upidly high for someone with 0 luck at the start and sickeningly nationalistic as usual. This novel is literally a pain to read, 20 chapters in and I'm already skimming.

Weird characters, the overprotective brother is openly hostile to strangers in an attempt to protect his sister which I understand, but why would you allow her to play a VRMMORPG if you're that aggressive towards strangers I have... more>> no idea.

Descriptions are strange, MC thinks its "cold hearted" and "unemotional" to not stick your nose into others business, when literally just a moment ago he saved the girl WHO'S A TOTAL STRANGER. Ugh, just thinking about it is giving me a headache. I don't know if the author is trying to make the MC seem cool or whatnot but so far the impression I'm getting is one of an abstract contradictory person trying to appear to be someone they're not. It's simply not well thought out.

Honestly there are just better novels to read, this is among the authors first works so his later ones are comparatively much better, go read those and don't waste your time. <<less

The novel is pretty similar to Mars's other novel Shura's Wrath with the exception of being the MC fate not being controlled like shura's wrath which is better for me or any1 that doesn't like the MC being controlled by other characters the whole story

I know 27 chapters isn't a lot (especially for Chinese novels) but I'm already done.

This does not appear to be a story about relationships, friends, family, etc so thus far there isn't a single character other than the protagonist (and I guess his sword?) that's been developed whatsoever.

As is par for the course for MMO novels, this isn't about making good use of tactics with other party members or exploring the world, instead it's about the protagonist getting infinite power just handed over to him with zero effort. It's all... more>> about finding hidden things other players can't, being the first person to do EVERYTHING, getting game-breakingly overpowered equipment and just easily being better than everyone else, being unique and special-

In other words: everything real MMOs aren't about.

There was some backstory hinted at which sounded potentially interesting, but the MMO overlay makes everything feel kind of boring and unimportant.

Also, yes, some cringy nationalism (not to imply I think nationalism is inherently bad, but it's so blatant and one-sided it just comes across as jingoistic) where Murica & Nippon are bad guys but China dindu nuffin. (Also, despite taking place around 2200 iirc, the Chinese population seems to be approximately the same as it is now, which is funky)

It's not impossible for this story to eventually get to more meaningful or interesting things, but it's so busy just forking over infinite power to the protag for no reason that it's lost my interest. <<less

I personally like this kind of VRMMO merging with reality plots, though I wonder if the author is actually writing fanfictions of his (her/their? Dunno) own works as they are really similar or if he likes to develop ideas that couldn't be developed otherwise

Really good story. Of course, just like any other chinese novel, the is forced nationalism added in. Which is forced upon the authors, otherwise they'll get ghosted by their government.

The literary intrigue was there. The action and realistic mentality, to some extent, was there. Lastly, it was just overall an enjoyable read for me.

I just hate the fact that the translator stopped due to a lack in popularity.
