Just your typical wish fulfillment novel. With women left and right falling for MC for barely any reason. Inconsistencies with Mc's personality, etc.

Don't be ashamed, we all like reading tr*sh every once in a while, but don't forget... tr*sh is still tr*sh. Doesn't matter how much you like it.

First of all, I actually agree with everyone else about this novel. Like, the first volume seems pretty good!... until when the author decided to mix in his delusions (he actually admitted to this, by the way!) with the novel. The only reason why I decided to read until c402, is because of 2 reasons:

  1. The loli vampire is inspired by Yukari Yakumo (from Touhou Project, and if you know Bad Apple, you should also know 2hu.) (Note that Yukari Yakumo is not a loli, by the way (although some fanworks do portray her as a loli, because ZUN (Touhou Project creator) is just generally okay with people using his works and create a new spin on his concepts.) Same goes for that bunny girl, she's based on Reisen Udongein Inaba (also not a loli, you can just search it up on the Touhou Wiki and see for yourselves), and because I really love Touhou, I decided to stick around with the story. Heck, the only reason for the fact that I'm stuck at c402, is because I was waiting for new chapters to come in, lol.
  2. The author is honest. He did not deny the fact that he mixed in his delusions with his work, just read the afterword. Or, if you're lazy, just read this quoted text: "I’m investing all my experience point to delusion power and work hard, so please take care of this work from here on too." [from Afterword of Afterword chapter, you can read it from bakape*vert.]
I also do find the side characters pretty interesting though. For example, that "Abyss Lord" or "Kousuke Endou"-something guy? has a good story arc (can't really remember his name, it's been a whole damn year ever since the last time I read this, after all).

Overall, 4.5/5 for first volume, 1 (or 2/3, depending on the content of the volume)... more>> /5 for every single volume afterwards, and maybe 3.5/5 for the Epilogue stories? (4/5 for the Abyss Lord arc though.) Just... go read anything else besides this, but if you're either bored, or want to see weird, overpowered shite, then.. go ahead, I suppose? <<less

3.8/5 : Okay, this might not be a never been done before masterpiece of a literary work BUT It's entertaining asf. To get straight to he point:

The Harem is healthy and not toxic.

The MC's violence was pretty enjoyable

... more>> The girls were pretty cliche and I felt like they should have just stayed with the original girls for the harem. There were just too many girls added in the side stories.

You shouldn't expect much from the story but it did make me tear up at the very end of the main story.

If you want an OP MC then here he is and look no more

And that's it <<less

Having read the entire main story, and lots of after story, I can say that while there are definitely dark portions the overall story is positive, and often very funny. Yes, the first book is the darkest. The MC has his mind break to the point all he can think about is surviving to go home. The rest of the books are him recovering his mind/personality as he works to return home. A lot of people seem disappointed that the MC doesn't stay as a cold, mu*dering psychopath, but I... more>> really like that his character grows and changes due to the people around him. It seems way more natural to me, especially since there are people that knew him before and care about him. And the MC isn't the only one who grows and changes. It's true for almost all the characters. That's why I love this series so much. Overall, it's about people surviving horrible experiences, and overcoming their negative emotions, but with plenty of humor thrown in so it never gets too heavy. That doesn't mean that it becomes the kind of sugary story where it's all sunshine and rainbows though. The MC grows, but he himself acknowledges that he is still missing important parts and that they will never come back. Important characters die and stay dead. Dark emotions aren't magically gone, but the characters acknowledge them and work to get past them. It makes it more relatable, and more enjoyable. (At least for me)

And the after stories are a lot of fun. There are definitely some that are better than others, but they are worth reading to see what happens after returning to Earth. Some are more serious, but many of them are hilarious enough that I reread them when I need something funny. <<less

it's a bit biased review.

it was nice at first 2 volumes atleast but I got annoyed by the "I'm not gonna save her just because she's a girl" moments

as far as I read, the only male character in the story in the "good " side is the MC and all males are either gay, an a*shole or dead. Made me irritated about how self centered the author is.

another thing that I don't like, and mostly on other japanese novel is the loli vampire. She's a vampire and why the f*ck... more>> should it be a loli? Not only that but a loli vampire dog. As she said it herself she'll do and agree on whatever the MC will say. What a simp. <<less

Absolute loved this novel if you don't like harem then this isn't for you of course Hajime out right states he only loves yue and doesn't want any other relationship with any one besides her he rejects every girl until the end. The comedy is amazing I laughed so hard on the jokes. The other thing I see people talking about is why Hajime became and Edgelord or some sh*t if you suffered what he went through would you mind not change like his did, other people say why didn't he get revenge on the person who betrayed him that's because he doesn't care he's says he only wants to go home he doesn't care about poultry feelings like that. All in all I loved this novel other might hate it and other might like it everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

If I could give this 10 stars I would. This is the story I base pretty much any isekai or fantasy novel off of, as I can only find a couple small complaints and none of it is about the characters.

First the main character's personality is fluid and changes over the course of the series like anyone's who went through what they did. All the characters in the Harem grow and change over the course of the series.

This is a true Harem Romance and not a Harem MC has zero... more>> clue and leaves all the girls in the gutter. One gripe was I kind of wish his would have progressed faster, but you see the relationships changing throughout the main series.

Spoiler

I would have liked to seen scenes of Hajime's full acceptance of the others during the month after the battle to see Kaori, Shizuku, Remia, Lilliana, Aiko's reactions

[collapse]

The MC's ability to battle is the best for me for many reasons. He does use his guns a lot, but that is his main weapon however he doesn't sit there and struggle with the small gun if something else is required. If he is facing 30-40 he starts off with a bigger weapon like the Gatlin Gun, he doesn't sit there and struggle to use the small ones. He comes up with strategies and executes them, but also watches what is going on and adapts the defense and offense strategy. This is a hug win for me as it seems every other book I find they will struggle with coming up with a strategy and monologue it for pages where this one. He just does it without any description.

The s*upid idiot of the book is actually the anti Male lead and he is 95% of the time just a roadblock that main character just has to hit gas and run through and is never a major factor.

This book also has depth within the Harem with their relationships. Yue/Shia, Kaori/Shia, All/Myu, Remia/Tio in the after story, Kaori/Shizuku, Lilliana/Aiko, Koari/Shizuku/Lilliana, And I want to throw Yukka in as I am still rooting for her.

The after stories for me were just as if not more enjoyable than the main series. The Brutal Shia ARC, Tio ARC, Shizuku ARC, and Travel Journal are all great. <<less

First off let’s address the glaring issue of people not paying attention as they read the first volume.

This story was always absurd. The so called problems and what-not in subsequent volumes were entirely present in the characters even in the first volume. Kouki was always absurd, in his inability to understand what was going on around him. And it was stated outright several times to be his true nature. While there is fore-shadowing of something it’s entirely on the reader to unjustifiably make the leap its him. The other 3... more>> members of that group are as well. Kaori likes Hajime for a fairly absurd reason and tries to get close, which cause him no end of trouble. Something Shizuku? Is fully aware of and could explain to her friend but doesn’t, or to Kouki but instead let’s him go on believing Kaori is just being kind and let’s Kouki keep getting frustrated with Hajime ignoring her kindness. While what’s his face that follows Kouki doesn’t seem to mean much of anything to any of them. That they can be considered friends at all or that they way they are written in the first volume doesn’t scream absurd and indicate something about the seriousness of the story is severely lacking falls far more on reader comprehension in my opinion.

This novel didn’t become absurd, it always was. It’s by no means a great story, and it definitely meanders immediately following the first volume. But as long as you aren’t looking for something amazing or serious it’s at least a passable read and may even surprise you at points.

TLDR; If you go in expecting a revenge story you’ll be disappointed, but if you go in expecting a along the lines of comedy harem anime it’s really not that bad. <<less

I will say just this, at the start of this series you will have your tipical edgy MC who is after what he wants... and the world building aint that much good. but... the more you read, the more world building it gets. Especialy when the story ends and "arifureta after begins".... The world building is just outrageous ! xD

It goes beyond a one perfect world building to a multi-dimensional "world building that are perfecty thought up and are conected to each other.... That kind of thing is just.. Woow...... more>> There you have the only author in the world who after ending his novel did get an idea of yet expanding his universe that he created. It is really fun to read, and it wont tire ya out cause every world there is unique and it aint that the story is boring.. it sometimes even change.

It is like you are reading the whole timeline of the "marvel verse" in the anime version ! :D

but yeah... it cointains filler chapters too to fille up the story cause otherwise the chapters that conect to each other would not make sense... but then again.. dont expect filler chapters to be boring.. they are really fun to read to.. Everyone ever wondered what will hajime do when he returns home ? :D

It is like the whole main series were just a prologue for the arifureta after. :D

And there is even arifureta zero that follow the story of these labirinth masters that fought the god thousands year ago...

Like I said... This whole series is a "marvel verse anime version". You even see how many chapters it has, right ?

It aint even fully translated..... I wonder how big of a history and world building it gets in the future. :D

For the world building alone.. 5/5 stars.. if it is possible I would give it a 6 stars.

And well.. If you think about reading it then start to read from the first chapter of "arifureta after"

Cause the anime will arive soon..

And yeaa.. the story of arifureta after is half of a slice of life of what will others do after the main series ended (it will fill up the main story).... and half of a new storyline that folows Hajime and his band adventuring to other worlds and beating up earths government´s of the earth that is suprisingly more nonsenical than Tortus. xD

And dont expect it to be a dark realistic story... Personaly I really like dark realistic stories.. And well this is a comedy/action/fantasy/mecha/isekai/ and I wonder how many genres it even has..... story with a lot of bright things... In short, it aint focused on a real side... Rather on the nonsense and inhuman sides every character has to offer... Sounds dark.. but really, it is focused on the comedy about these things...

It is really fun. :D <<less

I regret reading this cause I didn't notice the harem tag... FOR GOD SAKE, why does the author thinks that harem and romace is a good combination for a novel..

For me I think harem is just an excuse for not having a good plot.. Authors will brainwash you by using harem genre in order to keep on reading the novel with meaningless plot..

I wish I could give - 5 star...

There's plot of negative reviews here

I mean most of you sent wrong but you sorta gotta admit it's a good escape from realty and a fun read I mean who doesn't want to be an overpowered MF that has wife's a daughter a mum and dad plus friends that all love and respect and have fun with

I enjoyed the web novel so far and the first 10 light novels and watches the first season of the anime I still liked but bad cg

Have not got around to the manga yet... more>> but will do

I mean yes the MC is overpowered and it's silly how every girl instantly loves him but anit that the point of the escape from realty fantasy and we only being negative coz we jealous it isn't us hahaha <<less

The author seems to want a dark character that suffered and etc, but then want him to take actions counter to his nature. You'll constantly see the MC say he doesn't care about other people; he will kill anyone who gets in his way., but then have to read a long and confusion explanation why "just this once" he will spare this random mob, or he will help this poor town survive an invasion. Also given how his school life was described, you would think there would be some resentment... more>> for the teacher for doing nothing about the bullying, but for some reason he cares enough about her that he'll slaughter a 40K army. It seems very forced to me. I have nothing against a more just and caring character, but I cant stand a character that constantly says one thing and does the other.

If you can deal with that, the harem and action is enjoyable, and I find the harem members to be distinct enough and not just copies like some other books. I think the author should have put more effort into his relationship with the main girl, since the closeness seems to just randomly increase without reason on the basis that they have a vague similarity. <<less

It started out okay. The first volume was acceptable, then as I read on and on to volume 7, it's gotten stale.

I thought the harem comedy was funny at first, but it gets overused with little character relationship developments to the point that I've gotten bored and sometimes annoyed.

Other than that, I couldn't find much excitement after the first few volumes.

At first, I found reading Arifureta to be a bit of a slog mainly cause I feel that the plot is so-so.

But as I continued to push myself to finish reading, I found that the real charm of this series is the character interactions/expressions/reactions. Or more to the point. My imagination of them. The way the author describes them is vivid enough that I can almost see them. It's to the point, that it's almost an anime (which I've found out is actually coming out soon!).

Thus, I give this novel... more>> a 4/5 rating (would have gotten 5/5 if the overall plot, that I've read so far, was actually engaging). It's super rare for novels to have this impact on me, as I've read. Countless. And I mean, COUNTLESS amounts of novels and only about 10% (if that), give me that kind of feeling.

EDIT (04-04-19) : Okay, so I've continued reading to latest TL'd chapters and I've got to say that they're a fun read. I've lost count the amount of times I've laughed. If I had to make a complaint, it's the lack of chronological order of the mini-arcs/side story's. The time line is all over the place. I still stick by my 4/5 rating though. <<less

I think that everyone started this novel thinking it would be a dark revenge plot with gritty action and such. To be fair, the author does deliver what is promised in the synopsis, for the first arc. After that, it quickly devolves into a romcom harem story. So if you like stories where the main character is a beta trying to be an alpha. Then this is just right for you.

A novel about a man losing and regaining his "humanity". The low ratings overlook this, thinking of a revenge story to happen. C'mon the title and synopsis doesn't say it is a lame and overused revenge story. I gave this 5 stars to balance some of the biased ratings. A 4 for me.

Well, the main story is best explained as "cliché". A cliché done not so good, but not so bad. But I read this for enjoyment, not criticizing and I got absorbed reading this.

Regarding that, I actually liked and... more>> enjoyed this, but the plot armor is strong AF here. The harem's reasonable, and not a surprise where everyone pops outta nowhere. The harem has a reason how and why they are on the MC's side.
Spoiler

The harem acts as Hajime's mental and moral support, that is to return him back from the "abyss".

[collapse]

Afterstory is really good, and made me spit out my coffee and tea from time to time. Unrestrained by plot and the large degree of freedom, I honestly think it is better than the main story. Although reading the main story first is a necessity. <<less

Seeing the rating, I feel obliged to inform you some things to consider:

  • Yes, the main story is mediocre. I actually skip-read a lot of chapters because they just feel... well, mediocre.
  • ... BUT, the side stories (or maybe after stories in this case) are pure goldies. They're slice of life for sure, but still fun to read. I can sense the author was like finally freed from his shackles to pour random wild ideas completely unrestrained by plot, story building, or whatsoever.
So, if you feel like reading it, just read... more>> the After Stories... and maybe try to read the main story too in your free time. <<less

Tldr; whole story ass, main girl worst girl, don't read if you can't read my long reason. Neither good nor enjoyable

In short: Don't waste your timeon this shit. The beginning is probably the best I've read but everything after that is complete utter shit. No seriously, don't waste your time on this piece of crap (unless you're a f*cking lolicon). Read the first volume, then just read all the pages of the wiki, then chapter 179. That would save you tens of hours and billions of brain cells.

The long version:... more>> Like most comments, the first volume and up to the point where he transforms is pretty nice... But everything after Yue is horrible. I made this account just to rate this WN, as almost all I've read were pretty satisfactory or at the very least not complete ass.

The biggest problem with the story imo is Yue. If she never existed, this wn would probably earn a lot of people 5 stars. It's definitely very humane to stick to liking one girl and that is sadly pretty agreeable. But at the same time, it's not humane to f*ck a 12 year old body. Oh and the whole "Yue is such a beauty, everyone loves her." Isn't so apparent in a web novel. You know? The thing where it's words and personality, not f*cking pictures

And the whole "sticking to one girl" is destroyed when he accepts
Spoiler

Shia as lover

[collapse]

However, you see, the whole first volume was pretty much dedicated to Kaori and made us feel for her... So one would think that the main character would finally indulge in all the girls after he took a second lover... Nope.

If Kaori replaced Yue, the introduction would have a meaning... But that was never the case.. And that chapter when
Spoiler

Kaori "Died"

[collapse]
... Well let's just say, at that point, I didn't have any more connection to the series.

If Yue's appearance age was at least that of a old teen, then the story would've been slightly more acceptable but as I previously mentioned, a web novel is written in words not pictures. The "reason" everyone in the story likes Yue is because of her looks and enchanting beauty but all I see is a god damn CHILD. God damn Tio looks better to me. At that point, he can stick his d*ck into Myuu and no one will criticise him for that.

Most characters have their own personalites but all I see in Your is a husk. She has barely any personality. She agrees to everything Hajime does. At first she's: "Go away, we don't care about anything else in the world." But when Hajime eventually decides to help, she changes to "Oh my Hajime, let us help."

The only things she had going for her is: "Hajime's Love Interest" and "Really strong Magic user". Shia and Kaori are not unique characters but at the very least, they are likeable. The only thing I didn't Yue being useful at, is being the bridge between Hajimes and Shia... But she is also the reason why a bridge is needed.

We could've had a decent harem story, or heck a really cool story about emotions and recovery with Hajimes and Kaori but instead, we got this piece of shit.

The whole first volume is nothing but a false expectation.

All the battle sequences and most labyrinths don't have anything to provide to the story and are long but skipable. The only interesting battle is the one with the first behemoth and the bear escape. The shorter ones like his first kills enhanced his new "survivor" personality... just to have evrything ruined

1/5. 5 for the first volume 4 for the rest of the characters. -8 for Yue. <<less

Pretty good read, I enjoyed it personally but it has some points that can get you irritated or tired.

The story starts really good, with a vengeance-oriented plot, it was amazing how MC changes after being betrayed and how he managed to survive. I was really hooked up. the first volume is undeniably the best one. After that, as the story goes on, his desire for revenge starts to fade (which is somewhat refreshing since most of the revenge oriented novels talk about revenge only and to the point that we... more>> get tired of that) and the story becomes less original, the MC is OP, he has a harem, etc etc... The story loses its awesomeness but it remains interesting with the dungeons that are different from each other and with the world in general.

The main flaw of this novel is the harem. The fact that despite it being a harem, each girl having their own personality is good but what irritated me was that every male in this novel (except the MC) literally drools over the girls and gets hit by MC for staring too much at them, it's so exaggerated. It's to the point that they see EACH ONE OF THE GIRLS as goddesses for their unmatched beauties. Some men tried to flirt with them but they literally get castrated by the girls or MC. At first it was funny seeing these reactions but it is just too exaggerated and too repetitive that it gets to your nerves as it goes on.

One last thing to complain, the illustrations are awful, MC is just too ugly x). Well it's not a big problem since we came here for the story and not for the images and since the manga is doing a good job for the drawings of the characters.

To conclude I must repeat myself, I enjoyed this novel even if it contains some bad points.

Edit: I wanted to give it 4 stars but accidentally cl**ked 3 stars ^^'. <<less

[Very disorganized review][spoilers (?) ]

My entry point into arifureta was by manga. I was looking for something to fill the time and didn't really pay attention to the introduction of the story. Other world transfer this, weak to strong MC that, the tags on this website will tell you what to expect. It's a commonplace plot. There's some sense of progression, increasing powerlevels and a big baddie at the end. I like it though. The main reason would be the comedy. 4/5

I just made this term up, but perhaps I... more>> can call this series an [inverse shonen]. The reason being, it starts off heavy, with dark elements and then mellows out into mostly comedy with some action. The meat and potatoes of the story has many references to pop culture and reeks profusely of chuunibyou terms which is actually a big strong point. It's a power fantasy but one that causes my chuuni soul to blaze wildly at times. It's sort of similar to death march in overpowered production MC sense (minus the food). One thing I look forward to in this story is what MC will create next. That is not to say the other characters don't make anything... They mostly don't though.

About the harem. To my knowledge it's the 2nd big reason this series is dropped. The first being the switch from edgy to comedy. Anyway, the majority of the story has MC swearing loyalty to his first waifu, but at the last few arcs, he steamrolls and collects on all the other candidates. It felt forced and I too was discouraged by the fact. Though coming from more than 100 chapters after the main story, I think it was for the best. The harem situation has since allowed for bonenumbingly funny situations since then.

At present time, the main story of arifureta is 60 percent of the total content available in the web novel. That is, the series has had a proper [the end] and has been sailing though slice of life ever since. I would argue that this afterstory is the greatest reward for fans who've followed the series to the end. If the main story is a well sculpted singular tale, the after story is a testbed for the author to absolutely let loose. With a non linear timeline, we get mini adventures in new new worlds, modern fantasy settings, and general high paced relaxing. Other characters get mini arcs, seasonal celebration chapters and a lot more. Granted, I don't like some of those arcs, but then again, there's a few tedious parts in the main story too. Basically, if you're looking for a something fun every week, it's worth it to finish the main series to get to the after story.

About translation. Jnovel club is doing great and 6 volumes of the main series are out already. As for the fan stuff, there are some rough spots at the main story is ending and some very rough spots for a few places. The current translator Bakape*vert is ok. It's one editorial sweep away from pretty good since the grammar is noticably but not cripplingly dodgey. I've been told that I'm somewhat picky with grammar so it could just be me though.

Now for some ratings. X/5

  • Story. 3. It's nothing captivating, the twists are there, hype parts are hype.
  • Style. 4. 3rd person narration makes for more description and more perspectives. Sometimes feels like narrator is it's own character.
  • Characters. 5. Characters have a good balance of feeling real and not real. It's a turn off if they're too realistic honestly.
  • Comedy. 4. It's actually a 5 in the after story but still evolving in the series proper.
  • Overall. 4. It's good and fun. Go in expecting SOL and thou shalt not regret.
