Has a great start but this is the kind of story that make the MC more and more s*upid as the story goes on. Each archs after few early archs moved by MC s*upidity. Basically MC make ridiculous mistake everyone/ someone/ everything that close to MC will suffer disaster, while MC saved by his plot armors. MC mad, bidng his time somewhere to increase his power rapidly, comeback and got his revenge. That kind of plot got recycled again and again.

I don't know what others think, how they think this is bad. I just too lazy to point every good point of this novel, but one thing this story is "make sense" that other novel (very) hardly have it. It is true that the first twenty or more chapter a bit boring because the story reveal something that is we dont understand. But I can guarante it is the best novel.

Didn't write a review in while, I felt the need to do so because this is underrated. It doesn't deserve a five since it has some gaps but it is definitively among the best cultivation novels (at least a 4).

Let's start by what I liked about this novel:

    • Pace: slow beginning but it picks up quickly after the MC figures out his path.
    • Characters are not dumb: Many scheming characters throughout the whole novels. Some even trick the MC and escape. Many weak characters influence the story through their scheme and intellect (Big plus for me)
    • Some character other than the MC have the "protagonist aura": This is the only novel I have read where the author did a good job at keeping hated/enemy characters relevant and alive until the end. In particular, this novel has an antagonist that feel like the MC of a novel. Author did a good job though at making their path cross rarely with the MC (which eliminate the frustration since their wins don't come at the MC loss). It felt like reading the legend of many characters in one story instead of reading about a never dying c*ckroach (you know what I mean if you have read enough cultivation novels)
    • MC does not always win all treasures he competes for: Again another big win, it makes the story less predictable when not all treasures are fated with the MC (heck some even go to his enemies, never to be retrieved).
    • Gender balanced: Not all females are good, not all are beautiful, and not all beauties fall for the MC. I liked that a lot (same for Men, the Author didn't take the route of the Fat beta character to be the MC friend).
    • Character alignment are not set in stone: One of the best thing about this novel is that the characters can change after hundreds/thousands of years. And this even involves close ones to MC. Some enemies might strike a deal and behave while some close ones who could die for the MC might become cold and calculative after being separated for thousands of years. Some might be down to earth and good but change once they gain power. Author did an excellent job at flushing this aspect.
    • MC creates his path: MC does not have masters, he will create his own path. Because of this, some parts of the novel are slower than others (and the author wrote it in a way that makes sense)
    • Characters die: Some friends of the MC die without the MC being able to save them. Some enemies survive to the end (though not major ones). Not everyone who helped the MC get a happy ending and not everyone who offended the MC get a tr*sh ending.
Now let's talk about the aspects I disliked:

    • Pressure: MC is under pressure nearly the entire novel never catching a break. It's like his enemies are godly and omnipotent, they always tend to figure out that the MC is the culprit and MC always tend to have conflicts with peek powers anywhere he goes within few chapters. I didn't like this. Note that not all conflicts are provoked by MC, often, the MC would do his best to avoid them but the author just make them happen. If there was one thing I would change in this novel, it would be this.
    • Too many desperate situations: Pros for some but Con for me, again to force the MC to go through hardship, he never has backing more than few chapters, no master, no reliance on friends. \ Urgency all the time: There is always a deadline for some realms to be opened or some tournament where it just happens that it is done soon (or sometimes brought earlier than schedule) so the MC would struggle and not cruise. I felt this concept abused in this novel.
    • The ending: It felt like there was a missing chapter on the "afterwards"
Overall, give it a shot. I, for one do not regret reading this. The closest novels I can think of that are similar to this one are "renegade immortal" and "Divine Throne of Primordial Blood", if you liked them, you would love this one.

Ok. First thing, this novel is only good for those masochists. Now let's start.

Welcome to world of martail arts which later becomes world of immortal making you on the edge of your sofa only to end disappointly.

We meet a highly sexist main character who for some reason has great affinity with every woman, like every damn woman while having a natural hate for almost every guy. But that didn't stop him from making frei...... sorry I mean adhore.

We present you a story written for masochists and by a masochist. Like... more>> it's so brutal that in almost 180, I didnt find a single deal where he properly benefit. If there are guys, he will say something like " I am stil so weak. One day I will be strong enough to beat them " and for women " its not her fault. She is getting forced by blah blah blah " sometime, he will be so good that you start finding him irritating.

But author isn't just a masochist he is something else too which is he likes others to pity him. Like close to 90% of time, when he does somethimg, author writes a ch about how pitiful he is and how is he suffering. Full emotional support.

Starring sincere MC, starring every female is good or vice versa, starring change in character just cause of 10 lines of MC, starring every good guy aka mc's servant. <<less

I really enjoyed this novel especially if you like crafting/ alchemy. Its a good Xianxia but it does have a few flaws. The best parts are:

    1. One of the most in depth crafting sections you'll find in any CN novel. His main crafts are alchemy and formations (arrays) with a dabble of smithing and talismans. Its not like ISSTH where there are 2 main volumes and then its never mentioned again. Throughout this novel his crafting daos are always mention right til the end of the novel but with the quality of Er Gen's ISSTH.
    2. The unique cultivation system (MC uses meridians rather than spiritual roots) aka Mortal Dao.
    3. Complete translation.
The biggest flaw of this novel is the last few hundred chapters where author tries to tie together the plot but it doesn't come together well and the final antagonists lack both sufficient climactic build up that the reader thinks they're important and the gravitas of a villain. This flaw leads to a the rather abrupt ending which doesn't give the reader a satisfactory closure but this is a common flaw with many CN novels.

This could be plastered over a bit by writing a few epilogue chapters but it feels as if the author lost interest in the story which is a shame because for almost a 1000 chapters the plot had potential.

The other flaw is the (extremely) long separation of the MC from main love interest (also from friends as well) and its debatable whether this novel is really a harem. Because the MC mainly loves one girl and when coupled with the long separation it means there's very little romance.

Despite this, the biggest reason for reading this novel is if you like crafting novels or want a complete read. As long as you go in knowing the ending is a little abrupt and romance isn't great you'll enjoy the well thought out crafting sections and cultivation system.

Its probably only a 4 star read but there are few novels with better crafting sections which is why I really like it.

Promising, then goes to sh*t because MC doesn't know when to shut up and stay low to accomplish his goals (while stating the opposite in previous chapters), instead inciting conflicts with people in power for no reason except his sudden gigantic ego.

Also, super weird and inconsistent world lore, with for example people having cars but not using them outside of cities, because "there are no roads". Literal WTF here.

I recommend reading the other work by the same author, The Gate Of Good Fortune, with an actual good MC.

I only have to words for this story, abrupt and deja vu.

It had promise, but it became generic.

Spoiler

It started of well the character was genius biologist, when he got re-incarnated he finds out he cant cultivate

so he uses his biology profession to create a drug that enables him to cultivate, instead of advancing down that route

he just becomes an alchemist like every other main character.

[collapse]

The character seems to have a problem with his memories, he forgets about people and things way to quickly like in single chapter. He can forget about his friends and family.

overall read this if you have nothing else yo read <<less

If you love bullied MC, this is for you, if you love suppression, it is perfect for you, if you love over, over and over suppression then this is extremely made for you.

Well not much to say, extremely suppressed bullied MC only runs here and there to power up.... Even though MC being under pressure is common for this type of novel but one thing that is missing here is SATISFACTION.... till how much I have read MC hardly got any overwhelming praise for his talent (or cheat or... more>> plot armor)... in every arc he starts from zero and even before crossing finishing line where you get to enjoy the SATISFACTION part, new arc begins and bullying continues.

As for romance
Spoiler

about the servant girl

After all the rescue, Hardwork and everything finally when they got together, the girl has no memory of our MC, so she has no felling of love for MC... only God knows when they will get together

[collapse]
, it's there but very very slow or can be interpreted as only deal between MC and some high profile female counterpart... that's all if no profit, no deal, then no more romanc, only bullying continues.... hahaha <<less

I like this kind of novel. It has where the MC kick ass all the bad people. The story follows the common way of how the MC starts with having a poor martial art to an immortal. The first few chapters may be boring to others but it's still a bit enjoyable reading through. It seems that the people who the MC meets are where most of the male are baddies and most of the female are good.

Hmm... The novel isn't bad but is plagued by horrible pacing reminiscent of most Xianxia novels.
I think this one fails particularly badly because some plot points are setup literally hundreds of chapters in advance and resolved extremely inadequately for the amount of effort that went into writing them.

For instance, a core revenge plot point is brought up at the very beginning of the novel, is left alone for around 250 chapters and is resolved in 2 chapters? thereabouts?

Chapter 260-ish spoilers
... more>>
Spoiler

To be more specific, I'm referring to the master that picks up Yan'er. She shows up and runs away becoming a key problem, she shows up for 2 chapters to accuse some bigshot cultivators and then is never heard from again.... like. What the actual heck was the point of all that? Sure arguably some people will say what about the cultivators he killed from the Dong clan,.... Basically... one extra person and a minor character?... What's the point of building up the subplot to begin with?

[collapse]

Heck some subplots are brought up and will seemingly never be resolved, a certain rank 4 alchemist's daughter is introduced for instance.

Spoiler

She is introduced, gets taken away and legitimately hasn't been seen even ONCE since.... last I checked Wuji still owes her a pill manual at the very least, but again, the major question I have is WHY? She's pointless as a character or a subplot

[collapse]

Let's not even talk about how the main plot of the novel goes from reasonably interesting world to expanding the world in a way that relies on deus ex machina's. Fine that's most Xianxia novels but I feel that combined with the above habit of creating plot points that aren't resolved over and over again, it becomes a giant pain in the ass to even keep track of what nonsensical world he's in or what sort of rules he's trying to avoid.

Now all this aside, it makes for pretty good popcorn action flick style writing. Action is reasonably fast paced and generally it's entertaining, it just isn't coherent or meaningful in any way shape or form when you take them in the context of an overarching storyline. It's more of reading multiple different instances of the same style of writing without rhyme or purpose. Good for passing time, horrible if you actually want to read it. <<less

Im really trying to give this a chance first 20 vhapeter where awesome but now all of the sudden its tittled with plot holes.

In the beginning the MC excercised caution, all of the sudden the MC thinks hes a badass completely forgetting that he couldnt defeat a simple peasant who practice martial arts move just a little while ago, and although the MC still hasnt practice marrial arts he thinks he can kill or knockout a youngmaster who may or may not practice martial arts.

It does have an arrogant MC, and even more so Antagonists to help move the story, but this does not detract from the story in anyway. It's also very action packed, but in an intelligent way. For example there's no corny sound effects such as shwang-shwang.

It also Starts off a bit cliche and slow, but after the first 150 chapters or so the story takes a refreshing twist from your standard Xianxia and starts to read more and more like the beginnings of an epic journey, similarly to an I... more>> Eat Tomatoes novel. <<less

The beginning of this novel is very hard to read. I stopped reading it 2 times, but because people still liked this novel I gave it another chance. After I got through the bad part it become quite enjoyable. For the beginning I would give it a 1 or 2 star, but for the later parts I give it a 4 star. The story is interesting, the characters are well thought out, but the cultivation levels are a little chaotic for me.

I have to say that it is a real shame that so many people have decided that this novel deserves 1's and 2's for basically being on the qidian website, even though it's a really great novel that doesn't have anything to do at all with this.

This is a novel which does the majority of what it sets out to do right. If you are type of person who likes the generic ''I will kill you because I can'' type of villain, then this won't and will be novel for... more>> you.

What I truly remember most of this story is the hardships the MC goes through. He doesn't get anything handed to him, He is slow, sometimes s*upid and very much a fleshed out human. He developes, nicely if I may say so myself. And he, most importantly, suffers severe defeats mentally yet perserves on. He sacrifices rare and valuable objects for others who have done him good in the past, this is one my most fav mc's on this site. Read this now! <<less

@update from c270 to c405 in just one month, because of the fast translation speed (3ch/day)

Hype novel as of last 3 months, with a perfect mix of every other good or bad novel. Other notable points not found elsewhere: alien cultivators invading home planet, ranking boards recording contribution of protecting home planet, side characters - even good friends - have no plot armor and are not forgotten. Strong enemies are not one dimensional and can even finish each other off without MC's interference. There's also a good comedy that... more>> isn't forced from time to time. You can also find a nice sect building arc there.

All MC achieved was thanks to his effort and luck (luck and coincidence is an essential part of this novel done by author on purpose to give the story some ironic flavour, you'll know what I'm talking about if you read these 400 chapters) but he never had any real treasure boosting him up, that's why the first 150 chapters are super slow in cultivation progress and rather focus on relations, mortal struggles, and collecting money/information. After 400 chapters we people still laugh at the fact that MC, while certainly OP in "lower realm", has no fighting technique for his weapon and just uses brute force swinging it, or, other movement skills/manuals :D

Get on the hype train! Don't be a hypocrite who gives 5 star to every novel translated by RWX and praises it to no end even when it's boring and super cliche, but downvotes this amazing piece of work cuz it's on Qidian. Shame on you.

@update 09.11.2019: This novel is still quite cool to read and finish after all these years. It is a novel that integrates some good concepts other novels lack, but it also has cliche arc repeats so toward the end it doesn't get any more amazing. Still, no regrets reading it. The ending blows, so 4 stars from me. <<less

So... I'll start by saying I loved the novel but I was disappointed with the last chapter. All in all it is a good read for passing time.

The story shows the MCs growth and has heavy emphasis on relationships like friendship, family, love... I especialy love that part because author shows the MC as someone who isn't afraid to fight for right reasons.

The romantic subplot is present but almost non existent. And it is because of that regard that I was most disappointed in the end. In the last chapter... more>> I get the feeling that it was sudden cut, sudden ending. I feel like it is missing one more chapter to tie all loose ends such as

and wrap the ending of the novel.

I don't know if the author had an idea of loose ending or not but I would love to read one or two more extra chapters to find the solid and ending.

All in all, if you want to have good read and not care about the solid ending-this is for you, but if you like (like me) definitive endings-then you would end up feeling like you are missing that last step. <<less

A novel full of potential but marred with sloppy storytelling. I would personally rate it 3.6 if possible and I kinda understand why people would give it a 1-2 star rating. MC's journey is kinda interesting because he does a lot of auxiliary projects aside from cultivating. The process from bottom to top is also nicely done. I also like how the author portrays some of the characters like how some seemingly tr*shy characters are actually not bad and vice versa (although some portrayal are over the top).

Not-so-good things about... more>> the novel.

  1. The romance. This still baffles me even after I finished reading the novel.
    Spoiler

Can you imagine that the MC is basically separated from his love interest for like 80% of the novel? Not only that, I am not sure why the author introduces girls that are highly compatible with MC but leave things one-sided.

    [collapse]
  2. The ending. Is it bad? Not really but it sure as hell is abrupt af.
  3. The rivals/core villains.
    Spoiler

Not sure why the author keeps non-essential characters like Lei Hongji and even random villain like Tai Shixiao alive until the last 5 chapters. Other villains like Xia Rouyin also meet their end super late. I really don't understand why there is a need to keep so many villains alive until near the end of the novel and I am sure this frustrates a lot of readers.
