Chen Xi was a jinx who radiated misfortune the way a torch radiated light, and everyone around him knew it. His entire clan was annihilated when he was young, and not too long after that his parents disappeared. His marriage contract? Poof. Torn to shreds and gone up in smoke before the eyes of everyone in the city, almost humiliating his grandfather to the point of su*cide! Cultivation? No time for that, he had a family to take care of!

This is the story of Chen Xi, a youth forced to stop cultivating and instead craft talismans to pay for his younger brother’s tuition… and who, in the process, would rise to become known by all as the Talisman Emperor!

A bit underrate in my opinion.

To me, this is a very special novel. This novel beautifully potrays how a generic story can be so interesting. The premise may not be common but the elements are. But that is it's charm.

There are many plus points of this novel but the most unique thing is definitely the MC. His character is very balanced and likable. I have read 1500+ chaps and till now, I have yet to find a frustrating move/part by the MC.

There are several downsides of this novel. For eg,... more>> dumb enemies and forgotten skills but they can be easily neglected once you get into the novel. <<less

There are very few about talisman in the story, very contradict the title.

The development of MC is too vague, lack of detail. Many times that the MC suddenly develops without a paving story. The story is related to Dao but lack of mysteries about Dao.

Throughout the reading, the impression was that a dumb schoolboy was writing. Huge chapters filled with 50% of unnecessary information - descriptions, epithets, what a "beautiful" protagonist. I also did not see even a hint of a harem, it is completely absent here, also I do not know what to cling to, what to expect. There is no intrigue, no interesting events.. Everything is ordinary and boring. MC is also supposedly "not evil, " and everyone else is bad.. Very bad, even 1 star for it, that's too much.

I have read only about 200 chapters

MC is naive till now, not calm cold ruthless type that is mostly seen, no combat strategy seen till now neither is a simple brute. Moreover I feel a slight similarity from Desolate Era but not a better one. Expected something new and different when saw the Title but disappointed

Bullshit, you might as well just say that he is the plot armour emperor.

How else are you gonna call it when the author literally says that dao of tailsman is everywhere, in the sky, in the earth, everything is dao of tailsman..

Enemies are the typical ret*rds though, walking around showing off their epeen, even when the otherworldly race was introduced, nope, my epeen is much more important than the fate of our race.

If anyone wants to compare it to Desolate Era, you could take the good part out of it... more>> and just toss in some generic wuxia story. <<less

Read a bit until third arc or so, so the beginning is good, became cliche, no even using any talisman for second arc, like slapping here and there using plot armor (?) like shenaninggans, and the author realized it yet just putting some comment that talisman is on the next arc.. Decide to dropped coz boring when I am expecting good battles with talisman (coz it seems to be tricky at first, yet just stomping in the end) kinda dissapointed

The story has been enjoyable so far. Talisman Emperor is another member of the Xianxia genre with all the characteristic elements one might expect. From the introduction of the main character, that has to be abused in one way or another, to the development in the beginning stages when the first battles unfold and abilities start to be uncovered and of course the worldbuilding (or lack thereof), TE could be named a poster child of the genre.

The story is fast paced and contains the usual elements based off eastern fantasy... more>> that popularised Xianxia novels in the western markets like magial abilities, humanoid beasts, powerful experts, a world that could have existed a few centuries ago with very basic technology (and morals) and the usual weak-to-strong and revenge trophes. My main criticism would be the personality of the MC, who is portrayed as good willed at some points and merciless at others in a mixture that can look a bit bland compared to other protagonists in novels like Desolate Era or I Shall Seal the Heavens - Meng Hao being richer personality wise than Ji Ning and Chen Xi falling behind this one-.

Overall the story is entertaining and will probably like the fans of the genre but no one should attempt to read it expecting a masterpiece. More than worth of being given a chance, specially with the fast release rate. <<less

An enjoyable read so far. I personally enjoy the MC's views and attitude, as well as the decisions and choices he comes to throughout the novel so far. It has a nice flow for the story and is well read. The cultivation systems as well as item and consumable systems are consistent and make sense.

Bad points are there are minor errors that need to be edited every few chapters. And in terms of the story there are points where overpowered people come into help the MC out of nowhere... when... more>> theoretically there are still things the MC can do himself... and they may (or may not) have relevance to introduce to/appear in the story at said points in time.

Overall though I feel like it's a likeable and enjoyable experience and can't wait to catch up to the current chapter. <<less

Although the title doesn't have any real relation in the early chapters. I really like how talismans have been incorporated. It brings something that's mostly side tack on to the forefront of the novel. I am very much enjoying the novel where it is at right now, although it felt like it dragged on for a bit near the start, it has definitely become one of my favourite novels.

Right so where to start.

TE the novel about talismans which literally didn't become relevant until a few chapters ago. It's a good novel and I can really see that desolate era has taken a nice share of ideas from this. If you like DE you will probably enjoy this! The MC has backbone and doesn't take any crap these days which is great!

This is an solid new novel. It has great translation quality, the cultivation system so far has more nuances and has spirit cooking which reminds me of the beginning of awe and is apparently a taste counterpart to alchemy. There seem to be dumb + smart antagonists in this alike and the MC is likable. I think this is definitely a cut above the average series. It's a very enjoyable read and I like how all of the cards are being introduced early.
