I Don’t Dare to Oppose a Protagonist Anymore

Lin Xiao was addicted to reading Qidian novels. He always fantasized that he would have a day when he could transmigrate and then embrace beautiful women all over the whole world, becoming the strongest person in the mainland.

After he really transmigrated, Lin Xiao stubbornly always believed that he was a protagonist until he met Ling Luo.

Only after being killed by Ling Luo did he know that he was only a cannon fodder villain in a novel.

When he restarted his life and hatefully wanted to oppose his fate at least once, he was ruthlessly crushed again.

Okay then… since a protagonist was determined to be like this, he wouldn’t oppose a protagonist anymore…

The two of them were similarly straight guys…

When he restarted his life again, Ling Luo unexpectedly suffered a Love Herb’s poison…

Lin Xiao internally cried as he looked at a certain person who tied him onto an obelisk in the back and thought, who could tell him what this was all about?

Truthfully, I liked both MC and ml, the feelings of conflict of their sexuality and gradual acceptance of their feelings were realistic and likable. Both of them went through struggles together and mutually respected one another. Although ML did hurt Mc; he repented and apologized him, and waited for MC to accept him instead of forcing him. Pretty good light read.

Finally, done! This kind of BL cultivation world is kind of different to the one I always read. ML did not fall in'love with MC right away. I like how they grow up together and treat each other as brother. The romance takes time and they only ended up to be in the relationship at the last chapter... As for me, it is really understandable after all the wound that they had accumulated because of each other's circumstances... This novel has it's own kind of angst and pain... I teary... more>> eyed how many times and I also been annoyed to some scenes.. But this is a good story... If you only read the first few chapters and give up on it because of the slow phasing, you will never understand why the author write it that way... What happened to the two of them is very realistic... I really do agree that you could not just accept a person overnight specially when they did something grave to you... But then again, perseverance and sincerity will really prevail and heal a wound through time... For those who gave this novel a bad review, I respect them but perhaps for the people who wanted to read this, maybe you can give this a try. This is not a perfect novel but this is worth reading. ? <<less

Super promising start with the appearance of at least 5 of my favorite transmigration tropes in the first chapter. Can you guess what they are? Anywho, this is already shaping up to be good bl fun!

So far the book looks good I came to comment now because I only reached chapter 10 but the TL and PR notes are already annoying the HELL out of me. Let me show you an example:

Spoiler

The people who right now were doing piston exercise, were two men{TL:muhaahahahahahahahahahahahzhHzhahhahahahahahahSEX! PR: Chill, you'll die when we get to the main part if you react like this now}

  1. A delicate man was being pressed on the tree
[collapse]

It completely destroys the mood that the author creates whether it be suspense, romance etc.

I have mixed feelings about this one I love the struggle the ML feel in the beginning as a side character and how he strive to get closer to the MC to benefit from his protagonist halo and I fell they could have continued naturally getting closer since they were already secretly gay curious about each other

But no after chapter comes the r*pe and then the super acceleration of the relationship if you can even call it that since it is more coercion on the part of the ml. I... more>> feel they could have been great but alas.

A solid 3 rating since I did actually read the tags and I knew there was scenes that I wouldn't like but while in chatper 50 it was because of external factors and I find that acceptable later I found it disturbing since the ML feels like he changed a lot <<less

The writing was bad. 😂 Now I remember why I didn't leave a review and why I didn't remember much about the story. I couldn't tell if I liked it or hated it.

5 stars because I liked the author's chaotic and messy storytelling though. Lol! Her inability to transition scenes and the character's personal thoughts and feelings is giving true beginner fanfiction writers vibe. Like.... middle/high schooler vibes. 😂😂😂😂😂

I do not recommend this story at all and I would ask readers not to take it seriously either. This one was... more>> so bad, even the translators had to take moments in the translation process to process what they just read. Lol. <<less

Just average, characters and plot are not that special. However the translator and proofreader note are too distracting. It's kinda annoying and too many to count. Most of them I think are not important. It made me can't really enjoy reading it. For example when I was reading it seriously then there's a translator note (hahaha). It's really distrubed the flow of reading.

at around 30-ish chapters I would have rated this story a 3 star, or even a 2 star. there were plot holes, some points were inconsistent, sometimes the plot logic didn't add up- the main characters were 13 yet were fighting grown adults (and the constant topic of harems and s*x when they were 13 was just??? off-putting) and people were being killed in the blink of an eye. ML is also a transmigrator, a businessman in the modern world in his past life, but it was BARELY mentioned and... more>> I nearly forgot about it. both MC and ML are transmigrators and this is their second time being rebirthed in the same novel, but only MC has read the novel and is aware that it's a book. this point does not get discussed for like more than 3 times, and if it does, it's really vague. so vague that you can completely delete that fact that ML is a transmigrator and the story would still make sense. furthermore, it seemed like it was so lighthearted that it didn't make too much sense. I couldn't quite pinpoint ml's character and sometimes MC was frustrating. however...

then the author left a note where they said that they were aware the story was lacking and they were making mistakes. they expressed that many people urged them to quit writing, but they would continue and improve. that really got to me. so I kept reading to see what would happen next.

oh boy, I was NOT disappointed. far from it.

let's talk about our MC. he gets character development REALLY quickly. right off the bat, he puts two and two together and goes like "hmm I should probably not be a jerk like I was in my past life" and tries to improve things. he's smart enough to catch on to the fact that befriending the novel's protag is the way to go. his character development doesn't stop there. towards the middle, he begins to realize how important things are to him and doesn't view the world in a naive way anymore. towards the end, his whole character changes more, after a bunch of trauma inducing situations. he matures a LOT.

our ML at first.... does not make the greatest first impression. BUT! once he realizes mc's worth and kindness, they get along like two peas in a pod. before the heavy stuff start, it's great watching them support each other and occasionally MC having cautious moments trying to sus out ML for rejecting all the beauties around him lmao. ML is caring and sweet at moments, but towards the end I did get frustrated with him. however, once you realize that how important MC is to ml, it's like... pitiful

once the romance really started developing, I laid back and thought, "lol! great!" I WAS WRONG!!!!!!

then there was a HUGE plot twist. well, for me at least. I can't tell you how low my jaw actually dropped. after chapter 65, the plot got incredibly more chaotic and suspenseful.

i have to applaud the author, MC and ml's relationship got fleshed out a lot. I really enjoyed the story mainly because of how the MC and ML developed their relationship and how they dealt with the conflicts. also, it was really nice to read about a protagonist that wasn't conveniently attractive right off the bat, AND have ML accept him the way he looked. although we only had chubby MC temporarily, the scenes where his kindness towards ML paid off were adorable lol. there are a lot of fluffy scenes and interactions between them, and our ML does get a little blackened sometimes................. aha

Spoiler

in the first r*pe scene, ML was under the influence of something and wasn't in control of his actions and he was sincere in apologizing to MC. MC actually did hold a grudge. honestly I felt kinda disappointed by how lightly r*pe scenes were being treated in this novel, since before MC almost got r*ped by someone else, but he was more concerned about being "taken as a man" than potentially getting assaulted. I feel like it was just used as a plot device for ml's s*xual awakening and left a bad taste in my mouth. I did feel like this time was more realistic, and it made sense that MC eventually did forgive ML because it wasn't entirely his fault.

[collapse]

also, can I just say, this story has also never made me laugh so hard then slap me in the face.

Spoiler

i nearly laughed myself into crying when I read that scene of ML trying to confess and MC just straightfowardly saying, "i killed your parents". imagining that scene just seemed so ridiculous to me and the timing had me HOWLING. then ML destroyed mc's dantian and suddenly I wasn't smiling anymore. but then the comments on foxaholic omfg. tears nearly came out from my eyes, after all that sh*t went down a comment was like "imagine his parents were actually alive" and it came true and I laughed so so hard. I'm sorry it was supposed to be serious but I really, really couldn't stop laughing at that part.

[collapse]

can we talk about that ending...

Spoiler

I'm actually kind of disheartened that MC didn't treat ML a little more coldly, or distance himself even more. I feel like ling luo had it easy. I did not find that second r*pe scene appealing at all, but I guess it attributes to his last resort of possessiveness- that "one last time" mentality before he lets lin xiao go. I'm kinda mad at him because he did destroy lin xiao's dantian out of impulse, then found out his parents were alive, and still treated lin xiao coldly. I get that he's awkward and originally a pretty indifferent person to anyone but lin xiao, but c'mon, I got so frustrated. I am SO glad that lin xiao went on a journey to wander alone for a while, but kinda annoyed that ling luo found him so easily. I want that boy to hurt and regret his actions even more. but ah well.

[collapse]

the ending feels really rushed. like, really, really rushed. but I overlooked it since the epitome of the novel was really exhilarating. honestly, the ending was such a rollercoaster that even now I immediately forgot some parts of it. I'm happy to finish the novel and I'm not crazily eager to seek out more content like extras, so I'm fine with the ending. this is the type of novel that you go in blindly, and then get surprised with what happens at the end. it's also the type to read when you're feeling casual and just want to find a novel that focuses on the romantic development on an MC and ml. it's quick and doesn't take too much critical thinking. it has the perfect amount of comedy and angst. there are just some plot holes and logic that might bother you, but it didn't bother me.

i rated this 5 stars bc although I pointed out some flaws, I didn't mind them enough that it really impacted my reading. I only read this for my enjoyment to watch MC and ml's relationship, and the story did end up getting way better than I anticipated, so I'm happy.

sometimes the comments below the translations got a little negative and I nearly agreed with them. but I'm glad I pushed on. maybe I'm gaslighting myself into thinking this was better than I thought, but it's okay! <<less

This is the first time I've written a review so it might be awkward but bear with me.

The story was beautiful. The plot itself is good and MC's character growth was really satisfying. And I can understand the emotional conflict.

Spoiler

MC was a straight guy so it confuse him when he started to fall for ML. Before he could accept his feeling, the conflicts happen and as the tags are mentioned he was r*ped (second time, the first time was due to ML being under drug so he forgave ML). It solved when ML tried to gave his life for MC (I won't spoil much), MC waited for ML because ML saved him. But MC was still confused and he tried to run away from his feeling (After all he was a straight guy for two lifetimes and every straight guy finding himself falling in love with a guy would feel conflicted and MC was even r*ped before he could sort out his emotions.) And MC forgave ML when ML chose to gave his life for MC. MC couldn't believe and waited for Ml. And when ML finally came back, MC felt better and left to travel the world. (There are some events between those two) ML protected MC in the dark but when he saw MC with a girl he couldn't sit still and tried to get closer to MC (under disguise). And ML sold himself out when he saved MC from some madman. (MC has already felt he was a bit familiar before that.) MC let ML followed him even after ML confessed. They travelled together and MC overcame his emotional block and finally decided to try out.

[collapse]

It was a nice ride and there were some hard thing to overcame in the middle of the story but the ending was beautiful and satisfying. And I feel sad that the story has finally ended. There are some plot holes such as why Ling luo's parents want to return to the family so much but it might be that I missed some information. IMO, MC and ML emotions and conflicts are understandable. They aren't especially good guys, such as robbing things although there are only two parts or so. And I feel that side characters are quite flat. But it was cover by other good things.

And then again, it's something worth reading and I highly recommend it. There is r*** scene and some of you might feel uncomfortable so watch your tags before reading. And finally, let me tell you that ML wasn't a scum. Hope you enjoy the story as much as I did.

it's refreshing tho, he's the typical idiot villain cannon fodder searching death with the protagonist in every novel you read.. I like him, a very interesting brain hole.. Don't worry, he grows, that's the most important part for me

I think that the ML suffered much more than the MC. He had sacrificed a lot of time and heart breaks for the MC, all to get the MC to love him. They had both loved each other. Regarding the r*pes, they both love each other and would be alright with doing it. The dantan problem for the ML was just so that the MC would live! The ML also suffered a lot of breakdowns for the MC, as well as his near death states.

First I thought it would be interesting then it became bland until the end. The story is no different to other typical BL where they'll put r*pe as spice in the story. So far I felt so complicated. I mean I don't felt like Lin Xiao actually love Ling Lou it's like he's tired and he actually has any choice because he's being persistently followed by Ling Lou no matter what and even if Lin dare to look at another woman with interest Ling would act like an indignant wife... more>> toward a cheating husband that would make Lin's potential lover away. So it felt like he actually had no choice.

Spoiler

Lin suffered cruel torture from Ling because both of them thought Lin accidentally killed Ling's parents BUT there was no CORPSE. When Ling found out that there's no corpse he had a conjecture that they're not dead! AND YET HE STILL MADE LIN SUFFER. And YES they're no dead actually.

[collapse]

To end up to a person who hurt and killed you in the past left a bitter taste in my mouth. I could feel that Lin's suffering.....

Spoiler

Especially when Ling remembered his past. The past where he killed Lin. It felt like he's not remorseful enough for destroying Lin's family from the past.

[collapse]

Spoiler

He even lock Lin up for so many years with no connection from the outside world, like imagine that?

Honestly, I don't think it's bad. NOTE: I've only read up to CH60 though, so I can't say much about future developments. Reading other reviews, it seems like it'll turn into a sh*tshow?? Yikes. I'm still keeping my review true up to CH60 though.

The biggest reason against this story imo is the r*pe that happened for the first time. I normally hate stories with r*pe, but I'm actually more fine with this than a lot of stories where it's "consensual" but uke is always tired out of their mind and... more>> wants to escape. The reason I say this is that (1) it's entirely out of ML's control, he was under drugs and (2) he was genuinely remorseful and regretful, without making excuses or making light of the situation. Sometimes the problem gets blown off too quickly and then they totally forget, but this story showed the reconciliation process. Also, the writing of that part was removed due to censorship issues.

At the end of the day, they already had bonds forged through hell and high water.

The story itself is about as entertaining as the other stories in this topic (and personally I love this topic lmao), and the translations are pretty decent. I like that the main characters don't just suddenly bond or have good feelings; rather we see their relationship grow through time. When it hits ambiguous territory it's kinda funny cause they always make excuses for themselves. <<less

I dropped it. The first chapter who translated the novel is ok to read coz you'll get focus on what's happening but then rest of the translated from foxholic site is unbearable to read

whenever there's serious scenarios there's always translation note of their personal Comment. Even the PR are attention seeker.

after reading a sentence/ paragraph that are not worth to reac to, the translation note always leave or have that reaction of naughty or jokes that are not even funny. Instead to get focus on what you read, youll get... more>> disturb coz youll read their comments in each chapter which disturb the flow of story

its better to leave the translation note on the end of chapter and keep your personal comment on your owm than to leave or put it everywhere you have opinion on the novel. Its not even funny. <<less

Omg I am sorry. I wanted to rate 4 star but I don't know why it's 2 !! And I can't edit or delete. QAQ

Some comments said it's toxic. Yes it's really toxic and I also looked for that.

... more>> I would like to thank translation team as they did amazing job.

Actually, I really like the story. Character of MC and ML were well-written. In the beginning I found it very confusing and unreasonable in many aspects especially characters' age!!. However the story developed in good way and also author skill after she wrote it for awhile.

Well, she really loved to torture her reader and her characters A LOT.

I love the ending sooooooo much. <<less

Their relationship is sad, I don't know how I finished this. The novel was kind of rushed but I guess if they were going for open end that's fine. The only reason I gave this 3 star and not 1 is because of the novel's beginning and middle. <<less

Honestly, it was pretty enjoyable to read at first. The writing is a bit messy but I still was interested enough to read a good amount of chapters, but I don’t think I’d be able to continue reading after c53. I might continue reading this but certainly not any time soon.

Very enjoyable, but it has some of my pet peeves (not inherently bad, but I personally do not like).

First of all, the story only had one chapter of them actually getting together and then "they all lived happily ever after" kind of ending.

Second is a major power imbalance. It's realistic since ML has main character halo, sure but I still would prefer if MC could be OP like ML and be a power couple.

Lastly, towards the end there was a crazy plot point that was infuriating to read. I wanted... more>> to smack something but by that point I was invested. <<less
