I don't really know why anyone could hate this. There's no perfect story out there but this one is one the best I ever read. The character's are pretty dimensional. The MC is literally weak at the start but he has the guts, he thinks well and logically. The male lead knows he can't touch thr MC because he might break him so of course all those building up frustrstion would lead him to imahine things considering that the authors says when a that kind of person thinks of you... more>> romantically or sexually you would be able to experience hallucinations from the surging emotion.

I read the mtl from the last updating chapter since I love thr story. The MC doesn't immediately goes OP. The story is pretty average but I love it. So this one is definitely a 5 star.

  1. I recommend this to all those fujoshis out there! Read this and you won't regret anything.

A decent novel. Not much world-building, but the existing ones are quite useful. Villain seemed kinda dumb and had no reason for his motive. Messy transitions (MC's personality completely changes at some point). Useless misunderstandings and something in between dub-con and r*pe. The romance itself doesn't make much sense, but there are some moments where you're fatally hit by something that's said. Also, the side characters are overly-reliant on MC due to his brain speed. Like, chill, you're contributing too. Love rival's a really messy character who didn't need to... more>> exist if he didn't play a part in the end. MC's best friend basically was useless. Characters are strong/smart when convenient for the author. In some scenarios, side characters do some completely OOC stuff just so the authors can hate/sympathise with them. Some are completely forgotten, by the way.

Basically, don't look into this too much — you'll only lose braincells. The translators were great, although the second one got messy at times with minor typos and tense-changes (it gets better, though it isn't bad at the start). <<less

I'm not thrilled that Heine Cannot Use His Words and has virtual s*x with Xiao Xan, letting Xiao think he's hallucinating.

Not cool, man.

Other than that, the world building is ok. I've read better zombie stories, I think.

I've read quite a lot of BL novels (mtl-ing mostly) but this is by far is the best!!!

I've seen this novel for quite sometime but did not read it because of ZOMBIES. Yep, I don't like horror/gore or anything close for that matter, but I'm so glad I gave this wonderful novel a try.

There's a good amount of s*xual tension (loads actually, especially in the earlier chapters) and actual s*x (wild ones lol especially in the latter half), and romance.

If I am to compared it with some mainstream works, I... more>> would say that this novel is a mix up of any zombie movie (?), Inception, and Fullmetal Alchemist. If you love those, then you'll love this novel. <<less

There are some merits to this story but overall the execution was juvenile and there were too many loopholes to the plot.

Spoiler

For example, researching viruses and creating serums and vaccines take a long time, but MC is expected to create something in 5 minutes.

Another, the commanders believe in him too much, based on whimsical deductions. They want to see if he can survive the situation and do not care of the result - are these soldiers or are they cold-hearted researchers?

[collapse]

Also, the MC is a bit of an idiot for somebody who possesses the fastest processing speed.

The ML's affection/obsession seems to come out of nowhere, although his care and dedication is really nice to read about. <<less

It was interesting at first. But the MC never grows up. Its like he is stuck as rank B researcher.

MC is a guy with supposedly super brain, has access to all kinds of research material, BUT don't understand what ML has been doing with this brain till now. Are you for real?!

The organisation is a joke. A powerful enemy entity is targeting all researches and they badly need MCs brain and guess what these people do? They use him as a "bait" where the precious MC gets to death door... more>> multiple times.

Also, F*** U, Heine and Jane. These two can rot in hell. There is nothing romantic in what they do to the MC.

Majoring dropping out this, cause the story seems like a kite with its string broken. So frustrating. <<less

The plot is interesting and I wouldn't be much hesitate to recommend this to my non-bl reader friends.

(Which I already did)

The writer did well with the world creation. The MC is so charming- rational practical and funny.
To be honest, I don't have anything to complain. Really love this novel and keep refreshing hoping for more.

Wow so many bad reviews, understandable but let's get this straight, Heine didn't write the book so stop saying the book is complete tr*sh cause of one character's personality. He is supposed to be like that, that is how the author intended to write him, if you looked at the tags and still went ahead it's just something that personally doesn't interest you or something that you personally don't even like. A proper review would account everything rather than giving a side that is more or less your personal stance... more>> on the book rather than a review.

I'm not justifying Heine's action's but you realize that the author wrote it on purpose right? It wasn't some freak accident that the author happened to slip up and write it that way.

Now looking at the plot, It is quite good, the way the author built up the world was fantastic.

Spoiler

Lets look at heine, tbh he is one of the better special forces soldiers lol, if u read the book you would know that the X-virus increases the s*xual needs/tendencies and makes it hard to control themselves regarding that aspect of the person infected looking at the other soldiers and the situation and the world Heine was quite gentle

[collapse]

The world is set up differently, it's a story, fiction, Fantasy, I get where most of you are coming from and even I wouldn't condone what happened in the group as a real-life situation
Spoiler

(i mean if u take out the virus and stuff)

[collapse]
but as a book it is quite good. A lot of the reviews that condone Heine's actions are merely a personal stance on the matter that take into account "the real world" where the book is not set in

Spoiler

Humans are (h**ny) creatures that enjoy "mating" if a situation like the stories set world is in, I would have to disappoint you and say what happened in the story could (most likely) possibly happen. Ah that's another point for it being quite realistic. Before you come for me saying "But there's the Law" do you really think the government would condemn the only people who could change the fate of humanity due to something they can't really control. I mean that makes for a heated debated.

The plot is amazing. The world building is amazing. It isn't too focused (yet) on the romance. The plot progresses beautifully. It's the kind that even the non BL lovers would read. Very plot driven. I was at the edge of my seat with excitement. The novel doesn't censor. The gruesome parts are explicitly written down. There are deaths, killing and generally badassery.

The main characters are interesting. The MC is kind of down to earth. He is intelligent but is not emotionless. He is logical and human. I... more>> like him. The ML so far is a block of ice but an intelligent and badass block of ice. From the hints, the ice is going to be melting soon and things are going to be very steamy. The side characters are very interesting too.

One of the best plot driven BL novels out there. 101% recommended. No go read it. :) <<less

Tried to fight my way through this novel since so many people like it, and the world building seems neat, but I'm waving the white flag at chapter 45.

I tried to like this novel. I really really did. I can handle an obsessive ML or two, and honestly that wasn't what ended up making me quit. The main reason? The MC. Before you get your pitchforks out, hear me out...

Spoiler

He starts out as an average student who wants to see the world, but is quickly in over his head when faced with the reality of the apocalypse - great, cool, I like it. But suddenly OUT OF NOWHERE he apparently has The Smartest And Most Powerful Brain that even surpasses a top leader's?? He can decode an entire genome in 8 minutes, and oh it's not a big deal because he was just slacking off before??

This alone wouldn't be enough to bother me, but coupled with the fact that SO many people seem to fall in deep obsessive love with him out of NOWHERE just toasted my buns. This leads to MC constantly being dragged around between different people who want to f*ck him, and I just got tired. Maybe all of this is explained, or it's intentional, but I am too bored watching the MC getting ripped back and forth like a chew toy to find out.

Also he's always constantly ALMOST dying and getting smooched back to life, which was fine the first few times but it starts getting less cute the more it happens.

[collapse]

Also, I'm not sure if it's due to things getting lost in translation, or if it's explained later on, but the plot feels super disordered and confusing at times. Frequently it feels like characters are making the dumbest choices possible, which is frustrating.

To sum it up - I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. I wish I liked this novel, but I'm putting it down here. <<less

I enjoyed this novel a lot. I have noticed that there are many people in the reviews leaving one stars for the relationship between the MC and ML and I would like to give a different point of view.

Simply put, it's kind of the point of this novel, obviously a deliberate decision on the author's side. It is not meant to say that this is normal and morally correct. This novel is a psychological horror taking place in a zombie apocalypse. You do not read this for a sweet romance,... more>> but to see the characters struggle in desperate situations and make their way through them to achieve their happy ending.

I will try not to divulge too much of the plot and only say some general idea of the world to avoid spoilers but at the same time, explain why the relationship has such a strong dubious consent to r*pe vibe. I will still put the spoiler alert, so decide for yourself if you want to read it.

Spoiler

The ML is a killing machine, the preview is not exaggerating about this. He has accepted a substance that makes his body much stronger than a normal person, while also heightening the s*xual impulses. When he feels attracted to someone, his body (not by his own will) secretes something that causes s*xual hallucinations in the other person. However, the ML cannot afford to have a physical relationship with the person he likes, because it would a) seriously injure or kill the MC because of his strength, and b) the substance he has taken would make MC get addicted to him if they exchange bodily fluids - and thus he would never be certain if the MC actually likes him too. This results in the ML being somewhat distanced from the MC, but at the same time, not being able to leave him alone. The ML also sexually assaults the MC in his subconsciousness, because he believes it is the only place he can do so while being certain the MC will not get hurt or his actions would be the result of an addiction. And he desperately wants to be remembered by the MC. The ML has gone through a lot of mentally disturbing stuff and is at the very end of his lifespan, due to die any moment, making him even more prone towards not the most sound and morally right decisions. It is all a messed up situation in a messed up world.

[collapse]

The plot is quite strong in this novel, the relationship is an important part in it, but it is by no means the only focus. A good balance, I would say. The plot is thrilling, full of twists and turns, parts of tension interspaced with more laidback parts. There are moments when you laugh, and moments when you feel like crying.

As for the MC, it takes him a long time to discover that he actually has a value to the people around him, through a large part of the story he is putting his own worth down a lot. It can be slightly annoying, but rationally, I find it fairly understandable. It's kind of like being a new insignificant intern among many other interns of a large entertainment company, and suddenly the big stars are treating you like their friend, the CEO of the company invites you for a tea... I get why it took him so long to accept that he is valued by all these 'big stars' that were originally an unreachable legend. <<less

I held on because I hoped the main couple could get together. However, I am so tired of reading this novel now. There is an extreme lack of consent in this webnovel. The X-Virus pheromones are used by the soldiers to intoxicate anybody they wish to bed. They stop at actually doing the deed, but Jean had also threatened the MC and keeps invading his personal space. Additionally, the MC is still shown to have a friendly relationship with them. In reality, they'd be b*st**ds and it'd be scary to... more>> come into contact with them. Jean also does not have good morals and was willing to let the two researchers die even when it was entirely within his capabilities and of no risk to him to save them, causing the MC to risk his life to save them. When the MC got hypothermia from saving the two researchers, Jean only went to save him then. And Jean made the bet with the MC that he could bed him if the MC couldn't save the two researchers. This just gives me so much headache. And with Maya too, he is willing to bed an intoxicated person if that person is not his friend. He legit said to the MC as he was sleeping after passing out from drinking that he would've f**ked him if he didn't see him as a friend. I hate these types of people. And every chapter now is just MC getting hurt, getting saved by being kissed by a Special Forces, and getting harrassed. Reading the reviews of other people, I don't even know how can this work even be counted as five stars. I don't care about anything else. The extreme lack of consent already makes this novel tr*sh. <<less

I'll preface this by saying I'm relatively new to both the BL and translated webnovel world having read maybe around 20 books thus far. I'm only comparing this novel against other similar novels. These are not great works of literature and shouldn't be judged as such.

To start with it's just refreshing to read a book with a premise that isn't transmigration or cultivation based. Yes, I realize these are the books I've been choosing to read but there seem to be a surplus of those in the BL/webnovel world here... more>> so far as I can tell. I thought the world building was fairly well done, the characters were mostly interesting with good growth from the MC throughout.

I did not find the story difficult to follow at all but then I didn't skim through sections either. It wasn't overly complex but does require you to actually read. I'm sure there are logic holes, most stories have tons of them. The smutty scenes were fine up through the kissing bits, the rest left me wondering if the writer has actually ever had s*x but this seems to be a fairly common occurrence in BL novels.

There were many noncon/dubcon scenes with the ML so if this bothers you, stay away. I am a full grown adult capable of recognizing unhealthy relationships and separating reality from fiction while enjoying totally tr*shy bad behavior in fictional settings.

The bulk of the translation work seems a bit sloppy, typos and whatnot but was definitely readable and certainly not the worst I've seen. As a person who does not read a language apart from English I'm just very grateful there are people willing to undertake this task so that I can read them.

In short, bingeable read, imperfect story/writing, fun characters with a refreshingly different sort of BL plot. <<less

A GEM!!

Just finished the final chapter and couldn't wait any longer to write my review lol

I read from Elpis translation then MTL-ed till the end cuz I was not patient enough haha..

... more>> The characters are intriguing, especially MC and ML (duh), but the other characters also play their roles very well and everyone has his/her own story that we can't just deny, that makes us understand his/her point of view and the decisions taken along the story.

The author really has an impressive skill in building the story, the characters' development and relationship. The pace is almost perfect, you'll never get bored. The suspense and the romance are at just the right dose.

What amazes me the most is how the ML puts such high confidence in the MC's potential abilities. He patiently led the MC from a lazy, half-assed researcher into a responsible genius that could not only protect himself but also save the world.

Try a few chapters and let the MC surprise you ;) <<less

I liked it at the start, the world building is amazing, and I like the tech, but this novel has left me wondering if the writer is very young. Perhaps it's also to do with the translation, who knows. I'm a huge military scifi fan so I was excited to read this, but unfortunately the immaturity of the characters, their unprofessional behaviour, as well as a lot of childish dialogues are major turn off, I'm actually surprised I managed to finish this novel at all (albeit it took me ages... more>> to finish). Not to mention the smut is basically mostly forced and rough, sure, some like rough, but I feel that the characters hide behind their enhancements to make this behaviour ok. <<less

from the reviews I thought this was going to be a nice good to read sci-fi zombie ln what I got was just a sci-fi zombie light novel. I don’t get how you guys think this is worth 5 stars. I dont think mind control is either. I especially hated how maya and jane basically... more>> sexually harassed xiao. I never written a bad review and this just happens to be my first. <<less
