Hao Ren (literally means “good man”), as his Chinese name suggested, is a good man, and his ideal was to live a restful, comfortable life as a landlord. At least that was his plan before a couple of abnormal creatures rented his house.

A remote, outdated big apartment, a bunch of rather abnormal non-human creatures, and a labor contract from the “god”, the three factors combined lead him to be the busiest landlord and most supernatural “babysitter”. The story of the most complicated, erratic and abnormal landlord and tenants started from here.

“Ever since I put my fingerprint on the labor contract, I knew I was roped into something terrible…”

As a person who is down-to-earth as well as a good Samaritan, Hao Ren desires to live the rest of his life as a benevolent landlord. Stumbling into a curious yet mysterious lady, he began his journey of “collecting” abnormal and supernatural tenants.

His life only became more chaotic when he receives a labor contract from “God”. Discover the many races, myths and worlds that lie beyond what humans define as normal! This bizarre fantasy full of fun is sure to bring you on a crazy rollercoaster of emotions!

This novel is a lot like Cultivation Chat Group, but except instead of cultivation, this novel focuses on space, technology, and magic. Every few arc is a new world with characters that all feel real. None of those stereotypical villains or rich boys. There are some romance, but it is pretty late in the novel and no harem.

Current English translation is almost complete at around 1700~/1773 so it's a great time to start. I never knew about this novel because it was so obscure, but I was bored the first... more>> few chapters, interested in the next, and really loved the novel as it got going. The score would absolutely warrant a 4.5 if there were more votes and more people knew about this novel. <<less

This novel is the perfect example of the meme of the digger giving up just before hitting gold. If you let the author cook then he'll serve up a 5 star Michelin meal but you have to let the man cook.

It's a terrifying slow burn but once it gets going, it's legitimately one of the best webnovels I've read. You spend the first 200ish chapters getting the crew together and setting everything up but once you break past that point, things start speeding up and that's when the fun begins

What a read !!!!!! Loved it soooo much. Very interesting and unique! The magic and sci-fi combined perfectly without seeming forced or wrong. It has a very slow start like it only really starts getting super interesting at like chapter 100. You must stick through because it was amazing read. Awesome characters and side stories. The MC is a little dumb and naive in the beginning but smartens up which is realistic because how can a 20-year-old guy handle this type of job without struggling in the beginning. Soooo character... more>> development.
Spoiler

Also I hated Lily in the beginning but then I started loving her.

Everything gets better and better with each arc sooo hang on. Also the romance is lovely and the ending is nice. So thumbs up!!!! Please read it. <<less

Well, I ended up dropping it at this point, perhaps enduring for too long to do it. It's one of those novels that are not offensively bad and good enough to read if you're perhaps waiting for more chapters from your favorite novels. Basically, it's not that fun or interesting to read, but it doesn't leave you bored to the point of dropping it until you reach a point where you get fed up by the endlessly repeating patterns, dialogues and tire of the useless info dumps. I guess 3/5... more>> would be a fair score, although I'd rate it at 2/5 if the score system wasn't so damn inflated.

We follow the journey of hao ren, the typical chinese no-f**ks given stereotype. He's supposedly kind, and I guess he is with how tolerant he is, but don't expect some justice warrior, he's a true neutral and don't mind killing stuff or doing things of questionable morality. His team and almost everyone in this story that's "on his side" in one way or another are major goofballs, that's where the comedy is supposed to come from. He gets powerful almost right from the start, yet never that powerful and their power levels are extremely unclear. They run around different dimensions, planets and so on trying to solve issues which just happens to crop up in front of him in a blatantly obviously artificial fashion. They just follow the flow and always solve every single thing somehow in one way or another, hao ren is overgeared to high heaven but hardly even uses his powers, usually relying on basic bodily ability. He's working under a goddess and by extension some empire we know almost nothing of by chapter 1207, I guess we'd have to read the author's previous works to know more. The entire story is just about solving one big mystery, various "side quests" lead up to this quite boring end.

To sum it up, it's a slow paced slice of life story that sports a very unused setting and potential. I have a lot of complaints about this story, mainly concerning the pacing, the info dumping, the characters, the story and the comedy. Well, I guess that's almost a bit of everything.

Now to the complaints I have about this story. First of all, it feels emotionless, the characters don't appear real, they have hardly any characteristics that would make them appear alive. They act in the same way every single time and in every single situation and there's never any character progression. The comedy is solely about the characters being "silly" and them encountering weird stuff, this gets old really fast but the author never uses any other comedy routine. It's always them bickering about useless stuff or being dumbfounded by illogical things happening, but when everyone is illogical, it's just normal...

The characters have zero will to really improve, instead just going with the flow every single time. It's clear how comfortable they appear in their current situation, despite meeting various way stronger beings, they never even once mention anything about wanting to get stronger, nor are any emphasis at all put on the protagonist's newly gained powers, the powers and other stuff is just useless fluff that doesn't matter, it becomes incredibly dull when there's zero tension every time, everything will practically solve itself, they have incredibly OP stuff like the ship or just praying to the goddess he's working for but he hardly ever uses it. He's supposedly a powerful demigod at this point but he feels almost as weak as when he was human. If you're not going to use powers, don't even introduce it, just let him use high tech gadgets instead. Also, every single event falls into his lap, it's incredibly artificial how he just happens to be at the right place at the right time every single time.

After the 200-300 chapter mark, it appears almost any and all improvements just stop. He's got the most OP ship already, he uses the same weapon another 1000 chapters in... Just dull. Not much is ever explained about any power systems or powers in the story, yet a lot of focus is on the protagonist's team thwarting and encountering the supernatural, for something having so much focus, the basics are way too sloppy. There's a lot of info dumping about literally nothing. Most of the story is just explaining in excessive detail about every single new thing or place, things that ultimately didn't matter because we'll never re-visit it in any way or form, it never matters to the story, at a certain point the only way to continue reading is to start skipping paragraphs upon paragraphs of boring exposition. Meanwhile, the empire he works under and the inspectors are just a part of the background, he only ever interacts with the goddess in his own comfort zone except for a few times of meeting one or two inspectors, we have zero understanding of the empire, it should be a part of this story with how important it is.

I have a lot more complaints but this will be the last one. The entire story just leads up to a boring end and mystery being solved, using way too many chapters to solve what feels like it should've been solved at most a few hundred chapters in. I initially thought that the plane of dreams was going to an arc or just the start story before getting deeper into things, but no, it's the entire story. Everything is about it and it feels so damn uninteresting. No one cares about the goddess, the evil mastermind or the other things happening, so many chapters just for way too late reveals of things that aren't even interesting to read about. Every single thing in this story ends on an anticlimactic and shitty note. The supernatural creatures, the guardians, the various creations of the goddess, the plane of dreams, the myths... Everything ends up so normal and dull at the end of the day, part of that is because of the power systems being so messy. Every single race and thing is so obviously just human in every way, despite having tails, weird ears or whatever else. It feels illogical and just plain immersion breaking. It's not even funny, so what does this novel have going for it? Nothing really.

The best part was that there was no real romance, but at this point it just feels like he's sterile, at most we notice some very slight flirting between the MC and the "mom" character of the team (mom = caretaker, responsible adult and so on), though this is just my assumption given the dialogues where the author seems to hint at the possibility at times. Not that any of the characters felt that attractive in the first place since they're all goofballs and childish to some extent.

Would I recommend anyone to read this? Not really, there are so many way better novels out there. This isn't deserving of any real praise. At most it's readable in case you really can't find anything better. I regret wasting so many hours on it. <<less

i rarely write a review but I have to say this novel was a really good one.. It might left some plot holes, but it doesn't really matter imo. I love the romance build up between the MC and female lead. You might think the age gap would make it looks impossible that a romantic feeling would grow between them but the author would solve that with some plot that made the romance doesn't feel forced. Even though it felt like a cliffhanger I'm not gonna lie that the ending... more>> left a smile at my face ;) . It's really a shame there's no extra chapter or something like aftermath chapter.. Don't stop reading this just because it felt slow at first. Trust me it's only at first, later he would constantly "adventuring" rather than staying at home because he's a trouble magnet. If you got bored or didn't like something like info dump, etc then just skim through the chapter and focused on reading the part you liked. At least that's what I did haha <<less

Pretty good novel with a lot of interesting ideas, but poor execution. Basic premise is in modern times there is a your everyday chineese Joe, who signs contract with an our universe goddess to be some kind of inspector. Goddesses and inspectors work under grand empire who rules multiple universes in a very good and efficient way with schools for goddesses and a lot of technical support for local government. Usual inspector should just check out if civilizations in assigned universe going to their doom and help them to avert... more>> it one way or another, mass migration to other planet, world war mediation etc. But our dude was assigned to some type of dying universe to unravel it's mysteries, why it is dying what happened to local goddess and can it still be saved. So he starts his adventures, meeting new friends, gathers a team and explores vast universe looking for surviving civilizations.

It's your typical gather a diverse team and travel to different places with very different cultures and customs trope. And it's done in a very good way, team is interesting with a good chemistry, diverse planets with different cultures. Starts off slow like a slice of life, but two hundred chapters later dude transmigrating whole civilization to other planet, so don't be scared by slow start, sh*t will hit the fan very soon. There is grand plot about dying universe, which MC should unravel and it gives a goal to his adventures. Novel clearly wants to be light funny read and it works most of the time, good humor here and there with funny interactions between team members.

Sadly, things go downhill from here, author likes to infodump things about new worlds with for half a chapter and this infodump would be 100% irrelevant 10 or so chapters later, when MC and his team will move on. After 7-8 hundreds of chapters humor and setup is kinda wearing off. And I caught myself skimming through a lot of chapters cause I know that there is same interactions and nothing actually matters for the plot. There no tension, no high stakes, MC and his team breezing through all the problems, which is not bad per se, but usually it's about life or death of some random people, whom we don't really know or care.

Pros:

  • Interesting setup with some epic interstellar action.
  • Pretty diverse and well defined characters.
Cons:

  • Author likes irrelevant infodumps too much.
  • Novel gets repetitive after some hundreds of chapters.
  • There is no tension or stakes, it may be good, since it is easier to read, but not for 1700+ chapters.
Overall it feels like very good setup and world almost buried by repetitions and useless information. There is a lot to like about this novel, but it feels like the good parts didn't get enough attention, and there is a lot of water between them. I give it 4 stars just because I really liked the good parts, but it's not quite there imo. <<less

Ok, my expectation are very low at first, but holy shit, this one is good. I even made an account just to review it.

The good is that, the story have ways to get around your expectation, (Kinda like how trevor from castlevania animation explains why vamps are afraid of cross), and is not afraid to completely explore some of its background.

One thing to note, tho. There is no clear power scaling. The MC and CO almost always have the upper hand (because of his job description, because it is... more>> implied that MC always play safe, and because the implied training and extra mission that MC does in the Background), so there is almost no tension most of the time, which is good and bad depending on your preferences.

The characters are alright, the main-casts and even some of the background character feels different from each other, lots of recurring character, even one that you might not expect to become key character, became somewhat relevant 100+ chapter after their initial appearance. And it literally took a planetary scale catastrophe that only the MC can solve (safely) to make the main girl accepts MC's advance, which is very reasonable considering her background.

The bad thing is that it starts off really slow, and MC is kinda ret*rded before he got his ship and was forced to home study for his job qualification. While the exploration and world building is fresh, the way MC tackles it got repetitive after a while. And some of you might get annoyed by the constant banter and jokes, which is not a problem for me.

The ending also feels like a cliffhanger, since it isn't intense, dramatic or satisfying enough as a finale. It feels like we're missing out on what story will happen afterwards, since even when the story is ending, there are still a truck loads of stuff in the world that the MC and CO still can and WIll explore. Like, if you are taking the whole universe of this story into account, then the whole saga is practically just a small accident in a backwater universe, which is inconsequential even if the whole thing collapses.
I wanna see more of it, since even background character like Bryndis looks like she could have a massive novel on her background story. <<less

Very interesting read. Its unique and original. I love all the world building, mysteries and characters. It took me a week to finish this, its worth the time. All characters are sensible and funny. Story progresses in a logical format beginning with a problem and all that follows is its solution through exploration, clues, mysteries, different characters and concludes in a comprehensive and logical way. It's not your typical xinxia novel. If you liked LoTM, HoH, RTW then this is for you. I loved it.

the author did an amazing job writing this book. I discovered and finished reading this book a few months ago so I don't really remember all the details, but what I clearly remember is the MC sometimes acts as a side character as he isn't really OP.

But get this. I'm a person who really likes reading books with really OP characters, so reading this book where almost every other character is stronger than the MC, it clearly means this book is very well written.

From the colourful characters each with their... more>> own preferences and reference, to the INTENSE AND PERFECT world building, this book really deserves to be recognised worldwide.

Although the book starts off awfully slow, it pays off, I promise you. <<less

Great read with supernatural and sci-fi element. The mystery element brought it a great thrill to read, and keep the story flowing. The character is pretty dumb but around chapter 200-300, he's gotten much smarter and more.

I'm enjoying it even after reading it for the past few weeks, and I'm looking forward to more and more of it. Nothing is really repetitive but if they are, you can skim it for whatever you want. But whatever they did in the story does have a factor in the current writing and... more>> future writing. <<less

The beginning is so terrible I find my soul is aching. The start of the plot itself has wiped away all sense of scale and suspension of disbelief by treating the universe like a plate full of mashed potatoes, and now I feel like the MCs entire existence is pointless, no matter what the goddess mcguffin says about him.

Were it not for the s*upid empire plotline I may have been able to enjoy this admittedly idiotic story (even if it was introduced much later on), but I feel like this... more>> is the sort of story you either like or hate because it was brought up so early. But heck, the beginning is just so terrible I wonder what possessed me to continue with it. I would much prefer it was scrubbed from existence so I could enjoy some adventures with non-human waifus with potatoes for brains without that crap looming in the back of my mind, ruining my fun. <<less

Really disappointed. By that I don't really mean with the novel itself, but the translation. In the beginning, there were three translators translating chapters individually for this novel. I read chapter 1 from each of these three translators, and two of them were pretty good while one was absolutely sub par. Unfortunately, that sub par version was the one on Qidan or whatever, called Webnovel now. Not sure why (but we can guess), but the other two translators stopped only after a few chapters or so. Now we are stuck... more>> with a sub par translation. It's not so much that it's riddled with errors, although there are in fact a lot of errors in each chapter... It's more that the flow of the translation is just terrible. Based on what I've seen from the other translators, what used to be a pretty descriptive novel had all of the meat torn off it's bones, leaving behind bland and unwieldy sentences. <<less

This is if not the one, is one of my most FAVORITE novel I have. I had follow this novel from start of translation till now.

Im very agree with others, that its boring in the first hundreds chapters or so (even till now some chapters still like that).

Because the author had write many "backstory explanation" that boring. And the MC is dumb. And feel had slow pace. And the characters still gathering.

But its kinda understandable, as the author want to introduce this BIG world, and the MC is just an... more>> ordinary man that involves in an "universe scale" problem (Even its a fantasy-scifi story, its somewhat still had realistic feel, not just total nonsense).

But as the MC & crew grew, the plot become deep, and you understand the story, its become very interesting, intriguing, enjoyable, amusing, and more. But more importanly, its UNIQUE.

And more than comedy, its surprisingly had many message that you can take.

So if you can bear it in the first hundreds chapters, it will be very rewarding, if you enjoy the genre.

But be aware, that it will take rather a long time before the characters & the story mature. <<less

Another 8 grade syndrome MC but it's nice and funny even thought MC is a eyesore for being the Low intelligence for the comedy script I think it's nice if he's shameless and his happy because they order him there and here like a kid hahaha

Now it's good for comedy but ruined by the MC he like peaceful life like a quiet place but now his so happy and excited because his dream is being a hero now he have powers what I hate it a hero being a hero... more>> means your going to be a nanny you gonna save and protect them and the higher up is ordering him like an ass and he did not even refuse just because she's a little worker god of celestial god xiling empire

But the story is great if your now a serious reader that always finding flaw, too many funny and cringe moment what I like is he's not a d*ck that always drool to a beauty even if he's a little whimp that all, a little advice of you read it block your sense and imagine that your watching an Japanese anime :) <<less

When I browsed through this page and then the first chapter, it is as expected of a slice-of-life novel- a truly boring read wherein the first chapter wasn't enough to hook me in. If it were to hook people into reading up to the last chapter, a prologue would be necessary in order add more interesting dimension and dialogue to give the story some meat to chew on. If it is a book that is just as boring as people-watching, I wouldn't recommend you read it given the slice-of-life tag.
