In a world of dungeons and monsters you can become strong if you merely have enough money.

Rare skillbooks that can magically upgrade your skills in an instant are sold at exorbitant prices. So only the privileged and rich are able to buy their way to become hunters – a much revered occupation that allows one to enter dungeons and hunt monsters.

Our MC is a porter, a sort of caddie for hunters. He dreams of one day becoming a hunter when he comes into possession of a skillbook.

But the skill is a level 0. Something unheard of. No one wants it. People laugh at it. But he learns the skill – only to find that it may be the most amazing one yet.

This isn't the worst light novel I've read but it's not that good, either. The world building is lacking and vague and no one but the MC seems to be real or to matter in the end.

I can see what the author was trying to do here with the unique skills and all but the story execution was pretty shaky. It's difficult and very expensive to get a skill and at first it said you could only have 1, but then later the author changed their mind and said they... more>> could have more, but most people could only afford to buy 1 (why most can't get them for free by hunting isn't explained, except to say the drop rate is low). The MC finds at least 1 skill book every time he kills an irregular and they're unique lv 0 skills. Oh, and the world conforms to the MC's levels and his individualized leveling system, which is pretty ridiculous. the MC himself is ok, kind of bland. I think the author was trying for experienced but he just comes across as tired of it all and a little cranky with it. his party is mostly there to fill slots and the harem is 2D; sporty girl, glasses girl with big b**bs, etc. The only guy who seems to have much personality at all is the mage. The girls personalities are dictated completely by their 2D cliches; glasses girl is clumsy, sporty girl is strong, and so on. If you've seen/ read any Japanese manga/anime/light novel with a harem you pretty much know already know who they'll be by the physical description given. They don't have much personality outside those known cliches.

I might try and pick this back up if it's ever completely translated but at the moment this is going in my dropped pile. <<less

This is a 4 up until ch 78, at which point the translator changes and the translation quality takes a nosedive. It goes from passable english quality to the quality of a chinese student's first attempt at translation. It's honestly difficulty for me to read, though I'll give it a bit longer to see if the translation quality improves.

If you're looking for a time sink, this one's above average until the translator changes. It's pretty typical for the genre, and avoids relying overly on game elements (The MC's the only... more>> one who gets a display and everyone else's abilities are mostly equipment reliant.) <<less

Really good story, a bit different from other novels that depend on RPG tropes, instead of levels the hunters depend on their equipment level to fight it out.

Spoiler

the MC however does have cheats that make him have level up type powers

I give it 5 stars, because I feel it deserves more than 4.4 stars rating at which it is now.

The most criticism the MC receives in the reviews is that
Spoiler

he doesn't get involved with any of the supporting female characters and he plays s*upid when confronted with their innuendos

which I think is just a harem loving mentality of readers which makes them giving it a lower score. Work in itself is quite interesting and the idea is quite well incorporated. The story pace is reasonably fast. There could be more backstory besides the MC, but it's not necessary and would probably even get more complaints from the give me fights crowds. All in all, it is an enjoyable read.

The first 10 chapters is like background info and building the plot (it was kinda boring), but it gets more interesting after that. Well, it is similar to LMS and apocalypse type novels like GDW.

@chapter 36. The story is RPG like but in real world with dungeon thing. MC is leveling up quite fast, so no boring part. Overall the story and the world related to it connected just fine. Translation work is good too.

As of Chapter 30

I read a lot, western, eastern, all genres – reading too many books and an active imagination means I am usually not surprised/satisfied by what is happening in a story as its the same usual trope some writers don’t even make effort but this writer seems to be different, I love the twist and the planning he did with scenarios and resulting rewards

I want to like this because I like these books in this sub genre of alternate modern world with monsters, however, this book was honestly just one big time waster with nothing special, and dull writing style / plot lines / characters

so far.... not really impressed. No rating yet..

It started off with a good introduction. MC is a weakling. Comes across a convenient situation where he loots a monster and gets super lucky by getting a rare skill book drop. Also some douchebag beats him up and really gets your blood boiling. So I am sitting here thinking that this guy will be set up as an antagonist sometime later down the road and you want the MC to beat the sh*t out of him.

But after that.... that guy is not... more>> mentioned again. Maybe he comes back to the story later to set up another arc, I am guessing. But I wish the author striked while the iron was hot, instead of putting it off.....I am hoping that he gets mentioned again, otherwise, it just seems like a wasted opportunity.

Then you get to the skill and level progression system which is part of the "gaming elements" tag on this novel

....... erm...... It's..... not that good? I don't really get it. It seems very vague and hard to comprehend for me. But it sounds like the only thing he does is hitting the gym and lift weights to increase his strength, and then run on a treadmill to increase his endurance. And he dodges tennis balls to increase his reflexes. Which just sounds like what your normal everyday man or athlete would do, except he can obviously do it at a superhuman level (e.g. Lift 200kg with almost no effort).

It sounds okay, but its just kind of boring. That's probably the most boring progression system I've seen in a fantasy story. How does that get anyone excited? I don't know. I know when I hit the gym, its just a grind and slow progress. I wouldn't want to read about a guy like that.

Then you get to the dungeon part, and I find that this is where the story really got bad. The secondary characters are really boring. I wish the MC just went in and solo'd shit. I know that maybe its not realistic for this type of story, but if you're going to create a story about a party going into a dungeon, then all of the characters in that party needs to be well developed and interesting, otherwise its really hard to read and keep interest, IMO. <<less

This is a good story and decantly well described in review not one best but ok for passing time.

But do not like how all people except maybe sooah are greedy very it's really very annoying just wish MC would turn around to them and tell them F off or something, but no just keeps on paying up it's frustrating and kinda caradly weak. (And the supposed to be his friends.)

An awesome read especially if you are reading it in piles of chapters. A nice post-apocalypse story that begins with a porter (or should we say, supporter to the Hunters) that serves rich kids in the dungeon, one day he founded a level 0 skill book that has never appeared before, it took him only that book as his life is turned upside down.

This novel is not perfect, there are things that could be improved but so far it is well-rounded, the positives covered up the negatives very well.... more>> One of the negatives is that, the story is too focused on the MC, everything seems to revolve around him.

We have already known that he is special, but he himself doesn't seemed to think of him that highly, or even curious as to why everything revolves around him. The character interactions are nice and cute, there is a lack of vivid image of the characters when I was reading this somehow, I don't know why.

Oh, and it has a slow start too, so be patient.

Anyways, this is definitely one of the must-read novels, sadly the translator seems to have gone MIA.. 8.6/10 <<less

Review as of Chapter 28 (Would be chapter 29, but the site is having issues atm :P)

The premise of the story is that one day, dungeons appeared in the world, and these dungeons had monsters in them, that dropped various types of equipment and skills. Normally, everything is ranked starting from level 1. Due to the appearance of dungeons, many people attained skills, and became hunters. After a while, the government took over the dungeons and began to charge a fee for entry, and it was mostly only those... more>> people who had skills or equipment that could kill the monsters. The problem is, that skills and equipment are expensive, causing a greater disparity between the upper and lower classes. Many people became porters (people who essentially lug around equipment), in order to make some money from dungeons and attempt to save up and become hunters. Very few however, manage to become hunters. Our MC is a typical porter, being looked down upon by the rich, and wanting to become a hunter himself. Eventually, he obtains a level 0 skill book, which is a seemingly useless skill, but turns out to be more than meets the eye. From then on, he become a hunter. The writing is good, as it has good tension, and is full of surprises. I also look forward to seeing how he’ll eventually create a team, and become a great hunter. <<less

I do love money driven MC, but it’s my fault to think Harem would come way on the back. 80% of the conversation is the MC talking to girls, in idiotic manner. I’m getting so frustrated when he got so much money yet so petty, like what?

it’s 100 times better in the 150-ish channel when he talked to a man, and even 10 times better he talked to a vampire.

Nothing special. Nothing new. Nothing extraordinary. Until now.

The author have no clue or knowledge on what is capitalism and what is communism. The author Should have done, even the littlest research, before even blabbing on what ever nonsense the author have to say about this topic.

I mean, just look at the first chapter of the book when the author wrote “capitalist societies drew a line and said this line... this line is the divisor between success and loserdom” (chapt 1)

Whaaaaat?

anyway story would have been better if the author cut out the philosophical nonsense. It’s better to... more>> not say anything at all rather than saying things that you have no idea what you are talking about <<less

The story is interesting, the MC seems a cut above the average when compared to those in similar novels.

The best character is not the MC, it's Soo Ah. Without her, this would be incredibly boring.

Slow start as most kr novels usually are. Interesting and not a usual dungeon adventure where its normally an isekai (another world) but instead, on this world but dungeons appeared. Interesting setting to have a world like that but I hope the author had better naming sense. Apparently most characters regardless of race and nationality seems korean. Even a "supposed" chinese hunter still has korean names, world class hunters also korean names. It would be more realistic to say their names in the "supposed" nationality. Also it makes it as... more>> if top class hunters are all korean. The lack of other nation hunters take a little out of the quality but just a minor thing.

I think there is a rather missed opportunity for author to explore hunters as how they are when not working in dungeons. Maybe like working using their abilities for other jobs but thats just a little side story possibility

MC is dense AF and has humble beginnings.. although I mostly skipped since im not into bullying and tragic chapters. Eventually gets strong after much grind, becomes a bit of a badass, although with a rather rude mouth.

A little heads up, 160 is the last chapter for now... Reason being the translator went into compulsory military service in korea and possibly continue after usually 2 years time unless someone else picks it up. <<less

Not bad but not especially good, I was hesitating between 3 and 4. The plot and the characters are not original. That's the first korean novel I read with a korean nationalism and China dissing as developped. The dissing is not as irritating as in IRRS though.

So as you can have guessed after reading the review, his power is OP, he starts poor and if you have looked at the tags his power is a growth type. The setting is that of a near-future world, with dungeons appearing on our... more>> earth and the story beginning some years after. There is a romance with a comic relief girl, and MC is a leader and that's pretty much everything. <<less

I really like the world and story. It is interesting to see a modern world become infested with monsters and humanity's reaction. The means of telling the story could us some work. The author doesn't have great character interactions. The characters are pretty interesting if you look at them individually but the dialogue and how the MC interacts with them makes the side characters seem bland. There are some plot holes because the mechanics behind the monsters starts to change because the MC randomly takes a level 0 skill that's... more>> never been used before. The bad guys are also act extremely impractacle for people who have such strong power and lived to have such power, a problem shared by lots of web novels. <<less

It's alright. Started off slow and boring, then it got better.

Mixture of modern day world with dungeons, monsters, items, skills. Post apoc but the countries seem to be doing fine, other than population decrease.

MC is strong, kinda dense or not really interested in love. At least he uses his head and is capable in a fight.

Not exactly a VRMMORPG type of story. It's like The Gamer webtoon/manhwa mixed with Hai to Gensou no Grimgar (Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash). There's no character level or quests or anything. No crafting other... more>> than only MC, items drop from monsters. The only progressions are the equips and their single skill. They each only have a single skill usually. Occasional PK/mu*der. The whole story is pretty much dungeon grinding for money, it's their job. Money to buy better equips or skillbooks. <<less

Its a interesting story with a modern setting combination with a dungeon/game element alike. The start was a little bit to much of explanation but as you follow the story is will became more interesting and make you want more.

The MC its not like an arrogant fool like other MC novel, instead he always using his head and find a way, although MC not really that kind but overall it still acceptable, I haven't really read that far thou but I'm going to keep read it and maybe edit my... more>> further review

Try yourself its a good novel :) <<less
