The adventures of Card Captor Su-Fei-Oh the gathering....

If you are one of those people who read for OP wish fulfillment crap
with ZERO plots and one dimensional harem army... back away and never look back

If you love stories where MC progresses from Weak to Strong, then this story is for you
Try and don't mind the author's naming sense and just read it for the story,
Action 5/5
story 5/5
character depth 4/5

only read the translated parts though so opinion may change

Dropped.

To be honest, it had a lot of potential and I liked the characters too but the way the author executed it, destroyed the novel for me. I was looking for good novels with game system/character screens type when I came accross this one.

Loved the starting, but around after 450 chapters, it went down hill.
    1. The author slowly removed the 'leveling up' via experience points, basically they become useless later. There was no need for author to add game elements at all.
    1. The author over-utilised the 'cliffhanger' part of... more>> the writing. For me, it started to take out the fun. Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed novels with cliffhanger when it is properly executed.
    1. Too many different type of systems and the author couldnt controll it properly (elemental pool, elemental level, elemental class, elemental law, skill level , etc) I was confused most of the time. (For some reason I think, it's the translator's fault for the confusion as it one point it says he has unlocked his elements, at other

it says he has not. At one point he is level x then at other he is level y) Then there is also confusion with 'platinum level' wht the heck is 'platinum level', I am still not clear. Then there is also about bronze physique and levels above that. All-in-all its a hoch poch. Too much confusion. And above that the author also adds cards too the novel which have a different system entirely.

There are things I love and things I hate in this series.

First, they have amazing combat. Very good visuals are painted of a legendary hero beating countless enemies against enormous odds. The second escape arc around chapter 50ish I think, was freaking amazing. I still remember it as one of my all time favorite arcs in any series.

The one-v-one combat is some of the best I've ever read, but as the story advanced, the author couldn't quite grasp the army combat that "World of Cultivation" had.

The author is one of... more>> those weird people who are very good at explaining things. He keeps it relevant to the story and has great reaction scenes. He doesn't explain something until I'm curious about it. Something many people fail to do.

The negatives include raining loot down on the protagonist. Especially in the later chapters, it's just disgusting reading about all of it. Great loot is fine, but at a certain point, at a certain quantity, it's too much.

The biggest flaw in the series has to be the lack of consistency in the series. Especially as you get into the 500's for chapters. The author is constantly contradicting himself. Information is terribly organized. I'm in a section where the protagonist defeated one army one-sidedly, then was immediately confronted with a new army with the same name that was somehow many times more powerful and apparently from a different country as well....

I remember back when I patroned for SilentWolfie's translation of this novel, he'd constantly complain about how he had to edit each chapter to hell just to make them logical. Which might explain why the early chapters were amazing, and the ladder chapters released by another group are terrible.

Sometimes the author's logic just fails. The protagonist is on a timer, and every second he wastes costs hundreds of lives. He's defeated the enemy so he stops to negotiate the loot when the big button that'd end the death is just a room away.

The author gets carried away with Brendels gamer system as the story goes on. It starts out good with brendel knowing the location of some weapon that's effective against his current enemies, but as it goes on, the story just loses all restraint on this matter. Chapter 400 is about when the story just breaks continuously.

Skip everything that explains the stories' card system. There's a massive wall of irellevant information. Here's all you need to know. Inspired by Magic the Gathering. six or so mana types. Monster cards, artifact cards, land cards. New cards get drawn every day. The rest you can figure out on your own. I think I just compressed like 6 chapters of nonsense for you.

My other criticism is the translators decision to use the name "Sophie" for the male protagonist for the first couple chapters of the story as the protagonists name. The justification was apparently some joke made 400 chapters later. However, even the translator said he regrets it after going and translating it and realizing that it's not actually funny or interesting in the slightest. <<less

Started off great until you realized he's dumb af. Imagine playing final fantasy tactics but MC would only geared himself despise having over 100+ legendary/God tier items, he never bother to gear his comrade except like one... The guy played Amber sword for 17 years, he knows it's a group base combat so no shtt it's going to be hard when you only geared yourself. Each arc is repetitive it goes from oh look how strong he is, to oh wtf how did harder mob show up, to oh no... more>> another unexpected boss show up since arc one. At some point you can just read the ch title between arc and you won't miss a thing. What bother me the most is author going on about "oh, MC's comrades/subordinate has tremendous potential to become powerful" MC... "Oh that's cute but I need to geared myself first (mememe) and why is the difficulty much higher then in-game".... <<less

I'm early into the novel but already I see many signs of a hypocritical do-gooder protagonist, I really wasn't expecting much but this is just distasteful. There are some high quality chapters which does make up for it just a bit but the themes of the novel are all over the place and the descriptive narrative is extremely inconsistent. Read at your own risk.

I think it's a solid 2.5-3 for me. It was interesting at the start, but it's starting to feel more like a cliche ridden gimmick. You have the super dense MC that is slowly building a harem without knowing it. You'd think a 33 year old man would be able to pick up on cues, but nope that'd make too much sense. Then you have the super op MC who somehow remembers everything about the game world. It's not enough that he has his knowledge and the system, the author... more>> for some reason had to add a MTG system as well that feels so out of place and awkward to me. It just killed a lot of the enthusiasm I had for the novel. Which was a shame cause it was shaping out to be a solid fantasy story up to that point. It sucks that the world building and lore was so good, but the characters just ruin it. While they all have impressive backstories, the present time characters feel so wooden with each other. Also doesn't help that the MC still treats them all like NPCs. He shows more emotion to the supposed bad guys he hates then to his close friends he went through life and death struggles with.

I only rated it so high due to the translation quality. Like it's not legendary moonlight sculptor translation quality, but definitely a cut above the standard chinese webnovel translations. <<less

Honestly in terms of how the novels set up plot wise it's okay, but I feel as if this novel suffers from the pacing quite a bit, as there is no need to take several dozen + chapters on setting up plans for a battle that ends up making zero sense since it feels as if there is no actual military strategy being used. Not to mention the fact that I like the cards of fate for the most part, but in volume 3 it really just turns into a... more>> weird cross version of magic and Yu-Gi-Oh which just absolutely killed my vibe. The love interests in this as well feel like they want down the path of starting off useful to being absolutely useless the more this series went on. Especially Freya as she's supposed to somehow be a war goddess yet Everytime they're is a fight it's Brendel taking down everyone for himself? Freya doesn't even catch a glimpse of combat in any of the battles up to this point. Also how did she get the Lionheart? It was thrown back into the lake but then somehow ended up appearing on a pedestal? Also wasn't the sage slate required for a bunch of things since when did it become so useless, heck I haven't even heard it mentioned a couple hundred chapters. Then it also explains that lionheart is only part of a series of 4 divine artifacts to make a sword called dwervyn but then why didn't he go for lionheart sooner if that's the case especially when he's the one it resonated with initially? Then there's also the fact that he has a skill that quite literally doubles his stats but is almost never used despite their being near 0 drawback. Lastly did the author forget he's a regressor, shouldn't he know where everything is and how to power up quicker, feels like he only knows the lore but knows where nothing's at, and I also can't believe how hyped of Valhalla was with a huge are surrounding it for it to only be mentioned a few times up to this point and it's had 0 development since being discovered by Brenden. This novel just doesn't make sense with all the plot holes and pacing

Novel won't let me vote but I'd only give this 2 stars right now first 200 chapters might be a 3.5 <<less

Very good storyline, well defined characters. The only problem that I had with the novel is the pace between each problem or obstacle. There is no time to breath and enjoy the achievments of the chracters before moving on to a new problem. It fails to give the reader a sense of accomplishment in an otherwise good novel.

Reading this novel annoy me too much. It's a "meh" novel. Nothing worth remembering. Story contains lots of drama. Some scenes are overly emotional. Story is full of plotholes. Author drags the story too much. For f*cks sake author wrote 80+ chapters where MC escape and survive from 2 bad guys. It was too much!

Overall a average novel among sea of CN tr*shes. Try it. Maybe you will like it. Just don't expect much from it

Story have potential but writing style is too poor, I can't understand this year, month and even day & night naming in the novel. Fighting are described without properly describing the surrounding first which make it too confusing.

No logical leveling system he just get xp and that exactly amount is needed for next level up.

This novel is overrated. It's a pretty standard Chinese novel but in a western setting. A bunch of random stuff happens that ultimately leads the MC to getting super OP. The magic system in the story is literally magic the gathering and planeswalkers and stuff. Some people seem to like it, but I hated it. I felt like it wasn't at all original and that it was hamfisted in execution. All the talk about land cards and blah blah blah just felt forced and lame.

All in all, it's not a... more>> terrible read. A lot of people seem to like this novel but I just wanted to chime in and say that I didn't. <<less

I have read up to Volume 3 Chapter 295. Overall a good novel. Romance and drama are not the novel's strong point. The first card user battle was very boring and won through chance, however, normal battles that use cards are very interesting. Brendal is two people in one, the original Brendal is a normal nice person, his strange side is the gamer Sufei. His thoughts towards what should have been a video game are far too strong and we have no idea what he did with his previous... more>> life aside from gaming. He has little self control. Perhaps he was a teenager with no life? He never de-personalises the original game by reviewing the reasons for the plot, he actually thinks the gamers controlled the fate of the world and had a crush on at least one of the NPC's of the game and possibly another older guild player. Compared poorly to Novel's Extra where the MC can really only blame himself for the tragedies as he was the author but at least understands why the world was designed that way. <<less

I'm not really sure who to praise, the translator with his "editing" or the author? The translator mentioned a few times that he changed some stuff from the OG novel.

Also the gaming system the MC used to have kinda lost it's meaning around volume 2 and 3 and it's barely mentioned anymore. The appearance of The Magic Gathering elements to the novel kinda messed up everything and blew things out of proportion, which could be perceived in either a good or bad way. I personally find it interesting since I've... more>> always want to know more about MTG. However, it also threw me off my immersion. The rules of the elemental pool requirements is also hard to follow for someone like me who doesn't have any background on MTG. Overall I accepted it as a challenge to learn something new among fantay related card games and it's a wonderful thing experience so far. The story and dialogues are amazing. The MC has a decent mindset and most oc all, not annoying.

The only downside is the translation speed, that's why I gave this a four. The translation started since 2015 and we're not even halfway there. I guess it's fine if the novel has less than 500 chapters, but damn it's almost 1.5k chapters so it might take another 4 to 5 yrs to complete the translation. <<less

The story is great and you should read it. About the tl intentionally change the raw, I would say it is a great decisions. Web novel is not prefect, even if the plot is good. Tl is doing the job of an editor to remove many plot holes, weird words and incoherent plots in the story. As a person who has read the raw before, I can say that the main plot is not changed and tl adjust actually make the story better and well-received, since this is a chinese... more>> wn which you can skip severals chaps and still know what going on, like any other chinese wns. <<less

This story is a great read if you have a lot of time on hand or need something to take your brain off something. I personally don't mind that the TL changed the plot to make it have more literary cohesiveness. High quality tl and a good story makes it an interesting read and I am ready and waiting for them to prepare the next chapter :)

First Warning: If you are the type to judge a novel base on its cover, then I beg you to ignore it. I keep putting on hold this novel for a while due to the cover. Finally start reading it and was hooked.

A typical "Isekai" into a game world where every thing become alive and yet MC still has game mechanics. Solid story, interesting side character, kinda goody "save everyone" type MC but tolerable however MC knowledge and memory is too good to be true. No sane person would remembered... more>> a whole quest line of a random quest they READ ABOUT 5 years ago. Even I can't remembered every details and lines of my favorite quest in The Witcher 3 3 years ago. Wiki and guide exist for a reason and unless MC had that thing in his "system", just treat all of them like plot convenience and move on is my suggestion. Skill combo and attack pattern can be wave pass cause it is essential information for hardcore gamer but still remembered skill details of a lv 10 mobs when your main character is lv 150+ is just unrealistic so if you are the type that can't get pass that, this gonna irk you.

Past all that, you get an interesting story fill with plots and scheme with surprisingly solid characters. The side character number haven't pass the unmanageable numbers yet and fight scene are a joy to read though could drag on for some. I suggest reading until the around vol 2 and form your thought then. You won't miss out reading this novel I can attend to that. <<less

Too much games elements. What the point of reincarnation in game world if everything the same? It's to the point where hits and medications show up how much HP changes by showing up MMO-style labels like "+2hp". And in almost every action are innumerable stats comparisons. Not to mention others game-like mechanics like "retina" popups right inside battle. Maybe some people would like it, but from my point of view it's too much. Dropped.

Good story, with plenty of groundwork laid for sub-plots and side stories. Good character depth, even on support characters. Excellent world creation. Nice variations on the results from encounter escalations, which prevents a feeling of heavy repetition that is oh-so-common in this genre. Give it a read.

Oh... and the translator does a cracking job, too.

Spoiler

All of the translated chapters, as are whole are really well done, and enjoyable. There are no large inconsistencies before the raws, and the game system is well done. The only flaw in raws that I would call major is how he idolized the princess and forcefully kisses her despite having a girlfriend, the harem aspect may reduce your enjoyment. Frankly I would recommend reading the translated parts and not bothering with the raws, Silent Wolfe's translation is good. Other than that really good, at least 4 stars, 5 for meme personally.

This novel is good in many ways but bad at some stuff. At start he didn't care about what happens to the Kingdom and doesn't wanna get involved in politics and just live his way of life. But at some point he becomes all patriotic to Kingdom and it's first King where he can't even bare insults from his enemies to kingdom. What the hell is that about?
