So yeah. This story is pretty bad near the end. Its like current day M. Night Shamalamalan levels of bad.

The twist... just comes at you out of nowhere like you were in a flat desert with nothing around for a mile, and then when you turn around, suddenly theirs a train. (yeah sure there is an explanation... after the fact, but its honestly not good and is super rushed, since it happens 2 chapters before the end).

Instead of feeling "tragic", it feels s*upid. Instead of being sad, you are more... more>> like wtf? A tragedy requires set-up. It needs them to be happy only for it to be torn away from them. That is the essence of tragedy. Lets just say, this story fails at it miserably at the end. You can't just keep kicking them down, when they were always down. That's not tragedy. That's called bad writing. (Or realism if you are nihilistic). Not only that, but this one kind of does the opposite. I won't spoil it, but if this ever gets translated or you get curious enough to read the raws, you will know what I mean.

Needless to say, the beginning to the middle is the best part of the story. But the later half? Its just no good. I honestly had high hopes for this, but it seems like the author just wanted to rush to the end.

The only reason why I gave it 3 stars was because the beginning to middle was really really good. I would recommend stopping at chapter/volume 3, where it starts going downhill.

Just note that all of the 5+ star reviews are from earlier chapters because they haven't read all of it. Yeah, I read the raws and finished the whole thing.... yeah.... its incredibly disappointing for a "tragedy". <<less

Just two words.

Code Geass.

Had the same effect as this novel. To make me cry very uglily. There are just some anti-hero novels that I just can't help but read it even if I know that I will just end up in a sad puddle of my own salty tears.

First of all, let me wipe my tears :')

The story is completely different from others. I actually like the MC character very much, and MC act realistically as she was once a fan of the story she transmigrated to. In order for everything to come into pieces, MC didn't waver and was willing to sacrifice herself.

Interaction between characters is almost nowhere to be found lol. However, I still enjoyed reading this.

It was enjoyable, but I think the translator has no will to continue the story, so I don't know... more>> whether it'll be a sad ending or happy ending (which I hope). There is this stray of light which I wanted to hold onto, I hope MC will be happy :) [And I want to read the story from 'protagonist' point of view] <<less

It's amazing how the author wrote it in a steady tragic way. You can't even see a single ray of a happy end. It starts of with a neutral leaning on happy vibe then it just gets more and more depressing as the story progresses.

For those who came here looking for a generic reincarnated into otome game plot (coz honestly I chanced upon this when I was looking for said stories), you might as well steel your heart before reading this.

This is a novel that is not really fun to read... It will force you to embrace masochism. The MC's life is so tragic and heartbreaking because she's basically throwing herself (and this novel's readers) to a bottomless abyss of despair. The only thing motivating me to continue reading this story is that glimpse of romance between her and the ML (not really sure, but I assume the guy with wood magic is the main lead).

Plot-wise it's good, but really challenging to the heart. You'll surely need many bags of... more>> tissue. <<less

After reading the reviews, I was so surprised by how much it's being praised because I know a lot of good and bad web novels that are being bashed. This is probably the only web novel that has tons of praises in the top reviews.

One thing though, just from the premise and the comments of the people, I doubt my heart could take in the story of this novel, I could already feel the cracks just from staring at chapter 1 (mind you I'm still not reading it). That's why... more>> even though it seems I have found a very good novel after a long time, I have to passed on this one. I'm still recovering from "TOMORROW I WILL DIE, YOU WILL REVIVE" if I read this novel on top of that I don't think I'm gonna recover. <<less

This one is seriously heavy reading. Lots of characters development. If you bored with the usual run of the mill reincarnation light novel, try this one. Anguish and or tears guaranteed!

So much tragedy. So much sorrow. But wonderful story, nonetheless.
Try it.

This is a story about a girl who, even knowing about her own end, indirectly acts on her inner warm feelings for her brother by ostracizing him completely, ensuring the route to her destruction. The fallout that comes from her small rebellion of trying to end her brother's suffering at her hands early comes right back to bite her in the ass.

A really heart warming, really tragic story. It hurt so good. Epilogue spoiler:

Her poor kid though. Atlas why. ;-;

Ahhhh, I hate this novel so much. It makes me so, so absurdly bitter. I hate how human and yet completely fake the characters feel. I hate it all. The main character is s*upid. She's so insistent on her own reality that she fabricates and forgets everything else.

Even so, I can appreciate that the story is moving. It's incredibly moving. I didn't cry, but the disgustingly bitter aftertaste of reading this and how much regret I feel is proof of how much it pulled me in. The plot is well-written... more>> and I just hate how it plays out.

I love reading happy endings. I love light-hearted novels that I can binge, knowing anything that goes wrong is a minor speed bump in what is a generally relaxed journey. This doesn't make every heart-wrenching story a 5, but it certainly makes them stand out, and this novel is a particularly outstanding one in terms of story and (somewhat) characterization.

There really are two reasons I can't give this novel a 5 in good faith (past my personal feelings towards the plot).

First is the characters. I did praise the characterization of the main actors in the story, but I also think perhaps the author pushed too far past making them properly 3-dimensional characters. Perhaps it's my own inexperience, but more true-to-life characters are easier to read. Their motives are not an open book persay, but they can be discerned far more easily. There was only one such character I this book, which is not to say it was unrealistic, but it was far more difficult to unravel than I think necessary for the story to truly resonate with me.

The second point is the very. Very. Difficult way that the author writes. This is not on the translators, who I'm sure tried their best, because I read a good amount through the raws. It's not entirely confusing how he writes, but it certainly obscures a lot of what I think should be stated more outright. It could just be a portrayal of an inconsistent narrator, but even so, I had to put in more effort than I'd like trying to make sense of everything.

As much as I think this novel deserves a 4, which is an overall positive score, I wouldn't actually recommend anyone pick this up. Could be I'm just a sucker for a good happy end, or a more direct tragedy. Who knows? <<less

It left me bittersweet. Tbh, I was expecting that it would be sweet light hearted novel. Tho, im suspicious about why its titled as "Sorry, Brother"

MC act villainous for the sake of her brother until he can stand on his own. The brother admires her for being strong and chivalrous yet felt inferior. The ending makes me sad ಥ╭╮ಥ

She got injured heavily and she lost her ability to use magic. Her aid betrayed her by bringing her father in. Her father then revealed his disgust and hatred towards her because her father saw her actions as hatred towards her brother. Then after that her brother actually comes to her, she's delighted thinking that it's her last scene by dying killed by her brother. But as I wrote above, turns out her brother actually never even regards her as villainous even though she argued that she's a sinner who have killed a lot innocents and doing atrocious acts. Her brother denied her and said it was the correct thing and it's necessary, he instead told her sister to fake her death and run away from the country since she have became an obstacle for politics with her strong magic power. She refused, but finally relent leaving message for her brother that he will regret it since if he ever failed to be a good ruler she will personally kill him later. She and Atlas runs away from the country together by faking their identity. On the epilogue it's shown that she have a little daughter, but at the time she already died in a "witch hunt" for people who have magical power. It's stated even if she's not being burnt to death she's already dying from the injury long before that. Her daughter saw her being burnt to death but she's smiling at her saying it's fine.

Strong premise and strong start, but unfortunately faltered at the end

The nice thing about this novel is instead of mostly recreating the story, protagonist has a single objective in mind: "survive until the final confrontation". Everything she does, is an attempt to achieve this goal. It's heartbreaking, and yet her thought process can be well understood. She does bad things, but you can see where she's coming from

The problem is near the ending. For some reason, author decided to just throw away established characters and put in some.... twist....? That... more>> doesn't really make sense

Spoiler

Father was established as a ruthless person caring about nothing but power, but at the end turns out he's got a soft spot for his son that he held in contempt, and apparently he's also a humanist who despises people who treat others like object, despite that being the core of his character? What the actual...? That seriously baffled me

To put this into perspective, he hated his daughter for treating others like object, yet at the exact same time that's his clan's entire creed: mages are objects, powerless people are subhumans

The titular brother somehow grew cold despite there being NO character development whatsoever that would point at that. Everyone except him has consistent character development.

[collapse]

Bear in mind that this novel does not have a "good ending", I'm not saying "happy ending" where everyone is fine and dandy. I'm saying "good ending" where the story wraps up nicely

Seems that the author rushed a bit at the end. What a shame <<less

This novel is dark. Incredibly so. I cried so much while reading it.. But it's so good! Just be prepared for some very harsh realities for a character that you'll grow to love

If I say in one word, this novel is masterpieces. She choose the true path of story to save her onii-san life. Yeah, life is cruel. Everything will not going to what we hopes. But she still want to walk to the true ending in her story book.

My favourite scene is her rephrase the original dialog in story book with her onii-san. :')
