“The son of god Gula has returned.”

I was lost in the world of gambling.

I turned my back on my family and even betrayed my lover.

I wasted every day of my life.

It was a life of tr*sh.

The reality told me thus:

That I would amount to nothing no matter what I did.

In order to change my pathetic life, I chose fantasy, instead.

Even then, it was the same story.

I wondered if salvation would come at the end of the long road.

But, I was forced to kneel down in defeat in front of a powerful entity.

The tower I built up with my own hands crumbled into nothingness.

Just for once, I dearly wished to know the truth about myself.

“Come closer, my child…”

I will not hold back this time.

This started off as one of the best novels I ever read, but sadly failed to meet my expectations. Now I am sure many people will love it the plot is unique from other isekai novels I have read. It started off as serious story that really got me hooked emotionally. The world building is great, the characters interesting watching the MC Jihu's character development was really interesting.

The novel started off with a prologue where Jihu from a ruined future sends his emotions back in time. The past Jihu is... more>> someone who used to have an ability however became a gambling addict losing his ability from overuse with a now ruined life his family having disowned him and his girlfriend left him. The early chapters start off with confrontation between him and his ex girlfriend Seonhwa that just pull at the heart string giving us insight to how good of person he was before and how much she loves him and is hurt by what he became. He then gets his emotions from the future having a dream about going to another world and fighting monsters coming to his senses regretting what he's done and about to kill himself when suddenly the start of his dream starts happening going to an fantasy world called Paradise where he goes from zero to hero.

Jihu's ability being unique, when activated he would see green and if somthing wasn't green there was a chance somthing good or bad could happen hence why he used it to gamble. However as the story goes on he starts unlock other colours a total of nine and it turns out his power works similar to fate perception and precognition. It was a really interesting spin on this type of ability and one I haven't seen done before. It was great seeing how Jihu used his ability and figured out how it worked.

Secondly was how this differed from other regression stories in that the character doesn't go back completely, but instead only his emotions go back. This has resulted in Jihu being mostly normal and allowing him to take a completely different development route compared to his self from the previous timeline. It gave the feeling like despite going back Jihu wasn't special and he still had to work really hard, rather then instantly knowing what to do and how to do it, as well has being developed mentally and emotionally Jihu had to stumble his way through everything almost at square one. It allow us to see his character develop both emotionally and mentally that endeared him to use. The novel really pulled it off well showing how a gambling addict was able to turn himself around and grow after getting a second chance.

Sounds good so however that was up to chapter 200 after that it starts to go down hill for a few reasons note very long rants and a lot of spoilers for this.

His ability

As I said Jihu's ability was unique and somthing I haven't seen before however, it gets used poorly if not at all later in the novel. This wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so useful it is like he is digging a hole with his hands when he has a shovel right next to him. There are times when Jihu should have clearly used his ability, but doesn't and he has little reason not to. Now the author tried to play it off that he was relying on his eyes too much using them to make choices for him, but that wasn't the case he only ever used them when he had a good reason to. The information his eyes could provided him with would have greatly helped him and prevent the worse. For example at one point Jihu uses his eyes, but doesn't think about yet it was obvious after putting a little thought into it for the reader of what his eyes were warning him about. What makes this even worse is that he stops using his ability right after unlocking its last evolution, but the last two colours hardly get used.

His future self

Spoiler

As I said Jihu only sent his emotions back, however as the novel goes on whenever Jihu gets in real danger future vision activates and he basically becomes his future self. At first it wasn't so bad as it seemed Jihu only partially became his future self however then his future self starts manifesting completely as if he fully went back. Now part of this call as Black Jihu is just badass, however it takes away from the story when it made it clear only his emotions would get sent back yet his future self comes and saves the day all the time becoming the ultimate plot armour. Like really it was interesting seeing a regression story that was different, but in the end it is basically the same with Jihu getting access to the skill his future self had.

What makes this worse is that it doesn't actually seem to be his complete future self as the Black Jihu we meet acts different then the one from the flashbacks till the point he seems to share different values then what he had during his timeline. For example Black Jihu seemed really smart compared to normal Jihu, but for some reason it fails him and as the story goes on it seems like current Jihu's values are influencing him. For example Black Jihu didn't care about Paradise in his timeline and only wanted to save the women he loved, yet for someone reason Black Jihu seems to care less about the women he loved and more about Paradise despite the fact it has only caused him to suffer.

[collapse]

Typical dense almost ret*rded harem MC

Now Jihu started off being someone who while immature could also be smart, he made a few mistakes early on, but learned from them. However after chapter 200 he starts acting like your typical harem MC that it gets creepy as he is flirting with all the girls despite only seeing them as friends and doesn't seem to realise it when before he didn't act nearly as much like a harem MC that I honestly didn't know it was a harem novel at first. His character progression starts to regress rather then develop and becomes oblivious to obvious things that he should question or does question, but ends up ignoring them.

Harem and Romance

This is what killed the novel for me basically. As I said the novel started off with a really emotional moment between him and his ex girlfriend Seonhwa and it made it clear both still loved each other. In the early parts of the novel they just missed each three times which if they met would have changed things completely. The author made it clear that Jjhu still had feelings for Seonhwa and that she was special to him and that Seonhwa clearly also still loves him, but due to a misunderstand and being unable to met the two remain apart.

Now this was really interesting and emotional got me hooked and routing for them to get back together.

Spoiler

The problem is Jihu clearly never got over Seonhwa during the story yet starts flirting with other girls and even ends up getting with a literal sheep in bit*h in sheeps clothing as the main girl cause she purposely sabotaged and kept Jihu and Seonhwa apart. Jihu ends up with a harem cause of some BS fate where no matter what he does he will end up sleeping with girls and get then pregnant who while he is close comrades with them clearly doesn't love yet is forced to be with them.

[collapse]

Spoiler

What makes it even worse is that in the previous timeline Black Jihu suffered greatly cause Seonhwa was also in Paradise under the alias of Baek Haeju. Now on an expedition Haeju gets captured by the Parasites and Black Jihu goes through hell his main goal in his timeline being to rescue the women he loves and also his greatest regret.

[collapse]

Yuhui

Spoiler

Now at the start Yuhui implied strongly to be Seonhwa, however in the end she turned out to be someone from the alternative timeline as well.

Now she is Seonhwa's friend and the only one who knows Haeju's true identity. When Haeju was captured in that timeline her last words to Jihu before she gets taken away is for him to protect Yuhui. Now at this point Yuhui and him are strangers however cause of Luxuria's feelings she takes an interest and starts travelling with Jihu while he tries to rescue Haeju after seeing him break down from losing her. Jihu spends his time putting himself through training hell to get stronger to save Haeju. Yuhui is fully aware of how much Jihu loves Seonhwa and is even supportive and encourages him.

Eventually they separate and a little while later Jihu dies after making a wish to send his emotions back, Yuhui makes the same wish, but unlike Jihu was able to send her memory back. Now this all good and all except instead of helping Jihu out she abuses her future vision in order to steal him away from Seonhwa.

Seonhwa due to having enemies can't make contact with Jihu without her identity getting revealed which would put Jihu as well as his family in danger. Now Seonhwa finds out Jihu entered Paradise calls Yuhui asking her to protect him cause she can't do it herself, in exchange Seonhwa will look for Sung a former ally of theirs who went missing on her own, in the previous timeline Seonhwa and Yuhui looked for him together. She also asks Yuhui to arrange a meeting between her and Jihu so she can speak to him without risk of being discovered.

However Yuhui doesn't do that she abuses future vision in order to steal him away-

    • Keeps information about a traitor to herself.
    • Hides future vision.
    • Yuhui purposely keep Seonhwa out the loop to keep her away from Jihu, even at Jihu expense.
    • Lets him become a Paradise addict and neglect his Earth life.
    • Does not inform Seonhwa when Jihu awoke from a three month coma.
    • Purposely goes on an important mission that would decide Paradise's fate injured when she can heal, putting Jihu and the whole team and the whole of Paradise at risk so Jihu will pity her.
    • Uses her knowledge of traitors to get Jihu to feel guilty then confess to him.
    • The same events in the previous timeline happen, but Yuhui says nothing cause the event that repeated is the one where Haeju got captured and she knows this yet purposely gives Haeju the very reason for what caused her bad ending in the previous timeline. Effectively letting a repeat of what happend in order to get Haeju out the way.
    • Sends her future self from 10 years in the future back to manipulate Jihu and events to come.
    • When Jihu gets drunk and accidentally does it with Phi and gets her pregnant Yuhui uses it as an opportunity to guilt trip him and even hints at killing Phi. Emotionally abuses him using her future knowledge, letting him get r*ped By Teresa despite clearly knowing it would happen and then guilt trips him again even punishing him by turning him into a girl.

Yuhui betrays her friend, harming Jihu and even risking the fate of the whole planet in the process to steal Jihu away going as far as to go back in time years later to better manipulate him. Yet she ends up becoming main girl getting away with everything she has done. Like really Yuhui was a bit*h that caused more harm to Jihu indirectly then even the Parasites have done directly. Yet she became main girl by doing so when she doesn't even deserve to be in the harem let alone his official wife.

[collapse]

Conspiracy

Spoiler

Another big problem I have is that it feels like Jihu has been conspired against by the sins. You see Jihu met the goddess Luxuria when he still a child around six where she discovered his ability and complained if he was only a little older. Luxuria told the other sins and they all know Jihu is Paradise's only hope cause he is the brightest star and they saw a new possible future forming where Jihu saves them.

However when they finally open Paradise they don't summon Jihu despite him being their only hope, instead they purposely invite his girlfriend Seonhwa who due to that ends up studying aboard for a bit now during this time Jihu starts gambling in order to figure out more about his ability eventually becoming a gambling addict and ruining his life.

The problem is Jihu becoming a gambling addict wouldn't have happen if they brought him to Paradise when it first opened and second if his girlfriend was around she would have stopped him from getting addicted as well. The fact the sins knew about Jihu and are even able to see the future yet still let him end up how he does makes it seem as if they orchestrated his gambling addiction. It is so annoying cause Jihu had a happy life and it seems that the sins purposely ruined it and the only reason why is cause as I said Jihu had a happy life he would have most likely settled down and got married not investing much in Paradise even if they brought him there.

This isn't the only time the sins have done somthing behind the scenes. Originally Jihu was fated to become an Executor however in the previous timeline the sins don't make him one despite the fact it gives an ability he needs which is godslaying. Now Jihu in that timeline was a loose canon, but also a monster who even without the godslaying was able to force the Parasite Queen to use her trump card when she was at full power. If the sins simply gave Black Jihu godslaying he would have won and saved Paradise. Instead they let him fail and send his emotions back into the past, however they don't grant his wish properly. They purposely use part of the wish, which they shouldn't be able to, to give Jihu a gold mark when what was left for his wish could have either be used to send him back a little further or give him a memory from the previous timeline. However they didn't do that even though Jihu never asked for a gold mark and if he was sent back earlier or got a memory Jihu's life would have ended up better as he would make up with his girlfriend.

Despite how obvious it is it never directly points out or condemn the sins for what they done, but we do get confirmation from basically a supreme god that criticised the sins for a trick they played and purposely interfered with the direction of his growth.

[collapse]

That is it, if I go into anymore I don't think I will stop SCOG has a really interesting plot and everything needed to become a great story, but in the end fails to meet expectations the first 200 chapters set cause the harem and romance in it is done so poorly despite having the potential to simply be amazing. It is then made worse as the way the author has done certain parts of the story and some of the characters just makes you outright hate them. I am sure many people will still love the story, but many of them will also get disappointed and frustrated cause of it as well and that it doesn't met its full potential. SCOG gets pulled through by its early chapters, but the later chapters honestly made me think it would be better if I never picked it up at times. <<less

*Disclaimer don't read if you don't want to waste your time. This is for those who have finished the novel or those who have no plans whatsoever to finnish the novel and just wants to hear an opinion of someone who did.

Ok after reading the entire thing and even having to spend money just to read the final few chapters (probably should have not) cus I wanted to binge everything in one sitting, to be brutally honest the whole thing would be a solid 2.5 - 3 at most.

There are... more>> definitely a sh*t ton of problems with this novel i.e MC, side char, plot holes, bullsh*t asspulls, lack of s*x, and my personal favorite Deus ex machina skill ver.

So all the 5 star reviews on this site can go and eat sh*t..... Having to read the early parts of the novel (after the tutorial) was spiritually taxing to say the least. MC is s*upid and it would be tiring to have to explain why. Asspulls are a thing and they continue to happen over and over again. The author just keeps giving the MC all this supposedly impossible challenges and adversities but somehow by the grace of the Seven Sins he pulls through.... the author would try hard to make it make sense but in all honesty it doesn't. (the only reason I continued was because I saw potential on the how the author constructs the fight scenes minus the bullsh*t)

Okay so ones you get past the early bits the plot surprisingly picks up it's pace. Sticking up for the fight scenes were actually worth it.

The third valley war (I think it was called that) had really good fight scenes and with the introduction of my favorite character chad seol (OG Seol of the first run) and the different army commanders it was actually starting to get good (again minus the little sprinkles of bullsh*t here and there)

Then we go back to our horrible MC yet again (god I wish the other seol was actually the mc) he picks this weird leader fetish and just goes crazy for power like he's somekind of highschool isekai protagonist (mind you he's 26) and it really turns you off, but I still stayed nonetheless because again the fight scenes were solid (probably because author already has experience with them having finished another long assed novel supposedly filled to the brim with fight scenes) and I was still hoping for something good to come out like a training arc or some sh*t (and boi o boi was training arc hella good, but more on that later)

After that we get some decent filler chaps before the next major war arc and they were progressively better than before... they were actually interesting for ones.

Afterwards the next war arc happened and having had high expectations because of the previous one, I was utterly disappointed. Fight choreography was still solid, MC was strong but still underpowered compared to army commanders so I expected somekind of bullsh*t somewhere and indeed there was but I didn't expect it to be in a form of a h**ny unicorn on drugs and a magical sharp stick..... Haaaaaa.... Author could have done it better but what can we do.

Then at this point in the story MC goes and actually starts fixing his mistakes irl.... well at least he seriously tries to fix his flaws mentally and actually asks for proper forgiveness from his family. The scene with him as his father was actually one of the really good parts of the novel.

We get the TRAINING ARC after that and I mean THE TRAINING ARC. Chad seol was back and was actually the one who trained our s*upid MC and my God was it satisfying. Chad seol "the voice of the people"

hurling out abuse after abuse at the MC pointing out all the bullsh*t hes done, our MC breaking down again and again, dying again and again, pushing his absolute limits and becoming a true shonen protag was hella fun to read. (I really liked this arc mostly because of the other seol and because we get to see a bit of what he was like and to be honest I would have really loved to read his story more the the current MC even though he failed his run)

Then honestly it was smooth sailing after that..... Everything was just really well written from the little arcs here and there to the amazing stele arc (f*cking beautiful arc) to the Second Coming of Gluttony arc and to the Final War arc. (I will not include a lot details incase someone who wants to finish the novel reads this, cus they are really really good no cap) Lets just say that the fight scenes were divine (I really am sounding like somekind of shonen junkie, I swear I'm really not) And I actually started really liking the MC, though not as much as the other seol. All in all the final bits were good and again I won't go into details cus it would probably ruin the experience for others but It was really solid in my opinion.

Sooooo......... was it worth my time?...... probably not....... Was it worth the money?...... probably not...... would I recommend it to others?......... probably not..... BUT I still had fun reading it nonetheless. I probably undermined how good the author is at writing and in all honesty hes not bad. There are definitely glaring problems with the story and on how he f*cks up from time to time but he can write really well if he wants to. Its not horribly bad like what other people say it is and it most definitely is not 5 star worthy (I can still point out different problems here and there)

It really is pretty much a solid 2.5 -3 stars at most <<less

This is really bad.

You have a simp beta of an MC.

Gets bailed out by plenty of his deus ex machina or his """unique""" (very important) eyes

Has like potential of over 6 harem members

Bad chinese tropes are also ever present in this novel.

Not worth 1☆, but 2-4.3☆ at least.

Mkay..i rate it about 2.3☆, bc there are many plot holes that downgrade the quality and my enjoyment when reading this.

Pros:

... more>> -MC not a complete idiot, he just naive, and for someone that see the tag personality change, that thing happen in the begining. MC are a complete bastard then change to naive.

-Great translation.

-a bit good battle scenes.

-Satisfying ending.

Cons:

-JPN-BETA-MC-TYPE (can become pros for someone who like it).

-OP enemy (its just like playing soccer where our MC comes in second round when his team lose 30-0). Enemy in advantage over everything, from the begining.

-Nerfed Ally. Almost useless Ally. (The most noticable are 7 gods, how useless they are I can't comment that. Just read)

-MC that always bad at using his power (not just his innate).

-Romance that a MESS (involving r*pe case that happen to poor MC bc of his denseness. Obsessive Love)

-PLOT ARMOR (happen when he fights impossible enemy, that author camouflage it with MC life? As the price. MC wont have any major? Side effect after that), etc.

-A Female World, just bc this a harem novel.

My personal bad rating come from MC, well, majority bad reviewers not like MC. <<less

A heads up first if you dislike harem genre then I would suggest avoiding this story.

Characters are my fav part of this story. It starts with MC Seol who is a gambling addict with broken relationships. MC is a character with many flaws. We get to see him experience his failures, his mistakes and how he learns and improve himself with it. He struggles with many things and we get good exposure to his thoughts, his emotions, and self-reflection. He is not a white knight or an antihero. He could... more>> be seen as a kind person who will generally help with good enough reasons. I won't call him selfish, his decisions are explained in detail with inner monologue he has with himself. He tries his best to redeem himself from his failures.

He encounters situations where he needs to change himself to overcome them. He has to muster the courage to make the morally right decisions and sometimes even play it hard if the situation calls for it. He doesn't have answers to everything, he needs to search for it and think it hard. Many times his strength will be useless and he will have to rely on wits and clues he found using his ability to change the situation. When faced with reality he could fall into despair, cry and blame himself which some might find pathetic. He tries to analyze his mistakes so he could do better next time. It makes all the redemption more satisfying as the MC won't find success easily. It was beautiful to see Seol changes from a worthless person with no redeeming qualities to a person who can take care of himself and other people around him in such a world. To do so he required a strong resolve and hard work to not once again become a corrupt person with the power he was in the past.

True to harem genre. The female cast is more prioritize with their personalities development. Only a few important male characters get exposure. They still stay relevant to the story and not forgotten. Some of char follow trope traits while others are more fleshed out. The main cast grows together with the MC.

The story revolves around the fantasy world mainly. It is divided into many kingdoms and danger zones with parasites shown as invading race enemies. Instead of defeating monsters, the novel focus is more on the psychology of humans and how they behave in dangerous situations. Their conflicts and struggles are satisfying to read. The modern world part of the novel is more focused on MC trying to mend his broken relationships.

It was a roller coaster of emotions for me. I liked small things like how MC works hard for everything without expecting instant results. His family not forgiving him easily. He takes small steps at a time to become a better person.

I got a bit long-winded here, just read it there are not many chapters out atm, hopefully, you will enjoy it as much as I did. <<less

It's crazy how good this series is. The characters motivations and actions are all consistent and believe. Some people are good, some are pragmatic and some are straight up c*nts, and our MC eventually realizes that he should deal with them appropriately.

He becomes a bit conceited at some points, but circumstances force him to realize his shortcomings. Instead of magically getting stronger or having things handed to him he faces things head-on and overcomes them through sheer effort, will and cleverness.

Truly a satisfying novel to read, strongly recommended.

Average Korean novel, typical isekai monster-fighting genre but with a slight twist on time-travel.
It's an ok read that managed to fix itself before it got worse. The first 30 chapters are probably the weakest parts of the novel. Later chapters are ok but lots of pointlessly edgy content including r*pe, r*pe and more r*pe. Just because it's "mature" doesn't mean r*pe has to be the default theme.
Apparently the author wrote a similar time-travel type novel "Memorize", also a weak MC getting a second chance, but reviews weren't good. Translation quality is decent.

PREMISE
A down-and-out man gets the chance to "relive" his life, where previously he had isekai'd into another world as part of a ongoing battle to help the residents defeat unknown invaders.

CHARACTERS
MC was born with the ability to "see" opportunity/danger, basically an enhanced "Spidey-sense". He squanders it in his youth, becoming a believable douchebag in the process (author spent quite some time chronicling his fall from grace). Thankfully plot progresses quickly and MC is given some foresight/emotional impetus to change, but becomes conveniently OP way too quickly before it's somewhat fixed. So now he's just normally OP.

Spoiler

His future self sends some memories/emotions to his current self before dying, just so he could make better decisions this time around. Not sure why such a distinction was made. It would've made no difference if he was directly sent into the past instead.

I'm guessing the author wanted a way to handicap MC's foresight so his knowledge isn't perfect, but also gift the MC a strong desire to change himself. Pointlessly confusing.

However the author provided MC with too much plot armor too early (covered below), realized he made a mistake, and thankfully reversed course within a span of 10 chapters.

[collapse]

Side characters are much better written. They have distinctive character designs/personalities/backgrounds, some from broken families, others from positions of wealth and power. All are put to the test and we see them react differently to the challenges. But their over-reliance on MC kind of spoils it.

ISSUES/COMMENTS
(1) MC got conveniently OP too quickly
It didn't make sense to be randomly rewarded a whole bunch of cheat items just because of his foresight. And they were such ridiculous cheats --
Spoiler

spell balls that KO everything, diaries/walkthroughs that literally tell you exactly how to complete a mission.

It made the MC's progress through the 1st tutorial completely boring before it got nerfed in the 2nd tutorial. The fact that his cheats explicitly got nerfed tells you the author realized his mistake.

[collapse]

(2) Weak world building
-- The point system math doesn't make sense. Tens of thousands of bonus points are given with pointless multipliers. There's something wrong with author's system design if multipliers have to be added. -- Multiple tutorials with tons of referral agents? Nonsense bureaucracy??
Spoiler

The isekai'd humans go through a tutorial (supposedly to weed out the weak). Then basically another tutorial to "train" them before sending them out to fight for the new world. Why don't the tons of referral agents just choose better human candidates in the first place and have 1 tutorial?

[collapse]

-- Very odd isekai premise. A more primitive alternate world has 7 gods that summon humans from Earth, put them through the grinder/tutorial to serve as mercenaries to fight otherworldly invaders? Why are there so many hoops? Why not skip the alternate world, and just make the setting on Earth?
That's the problem with these summon-weak-humans-to-fight-another-world's-problems genre. They never explain why Earthlings are supposed to be better candidates to be saviors of humanity. It used to be just one guy who isekai'd and got lucky with growth cheats. Now everybody and their mom gets to go over for no reason.

-- Leveling system is clunky. There has to be a better way to represent attribute levels other than low-mid, medium-high. Either use numbers, or introduce clearer levels.
The introduction of "disposition/temperament" stat is also odd. It's implicitly understood people can change their character (although difficult). Is there really a need to have that noted in a character sheet? Seems like just a lazy way to track down a characters personality.

-- The multiple races transmigrating into Paradise, turning on each other and eventually uniting against a common enemy (Parasites) seem clunky. Maybe there's a grander scheme going on, but is there really a need for this odd setup? Why not just do the Middle-Earth thing, all inhabitant races vs Uruk-Hai and other demonic races?

-- Pointlessly edgy content including r*pe and forced imp**gnation of humanoid races by Parasites. Really? Why does the author feel the need to go there? The initial premise was Parasites killing and turning corpses into hosts (i.e. ZOMBIES) . It suddenly changed after Chapter 90 for no reason whatsoever. There is a time and place to introduce emotionally difficult scenarios (rape, mu*der, etc), but this absolutely isn't it. Felt like just some random crap thrown in. Literally, it's random named characters who are suddenly introduced, captured, and their miserable fate is made known when the MC comes across them. Very disappointing choice by author.

(3) Singular plot, which is good
So far it looks like MC is just being led towards the singular purpose of trying to be a successful isekai'er that helps the new world against invaders. Hopefully it doesn't turn out like "The Novel's Extra" with multiple convoluted/useless plot threads.

(4) Novel prologue is badly written, whole lot of useless exposition
I get that the author is trying to setup MC's future-self POV in the new world (his relationship with the gods and otherworldly side characters). But it's pointlessly confusing, way too long, unsure if there'll ever be a proper explanation.

Spoiler

Five people standing/lying around on a battlefield talking to each other in a 3300+ word essay:
(1) an unnamed princess,
(2) an unnamed spearman/enemy who stabbed the princess for some reason
(3) some random unnamed dude that tried to save her and got KO'd
(4) the MC found dying on the ground, and
(5) the god.
That's not a prologue, author needs to go back to writing class.

Was there a need to introduce the unnamed princess, or that the god owes the princess a favor and is therefore obligated to aid the MC to send his memories into the past? Or that it took the author 3300+ words when the average chapter is <2500 words?? That's a classic sin for ALL AUTHORS.

Most readers would have dropped the novel by now with such a weak hook.

Eventually it's just a small reveal that the lesser 7 gods formed a pact to protect the local inhabitants (Paradisians) and communicated mainly with Paradisian royalty. Not even a surprise.

His innate ability I feel is very interesting yet simple, I actually really love how useful it is while at the same time not being overpowered in any way. Three great points about it. Simple, Not overpowered and Interesting. Had to say the same thing two different ways to get the point across.

Let me preface my review by saying this; this series has some of the best fighting scenes I have ever read, and I am saying this after reading Overgeared, Arena, Reincarnator, TOTCF, LMS, Ark, Ranker's Return, Stop Friendly Fire, Life Mission, SSS-Class su*cide Hunter, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint and a shit-ton of Japanese and Chinese LNs, such as TDG, ATS, ATG, ISSTH, and many more. The power rankings are explained well, the story, while it has some asspulls and deus ex machinas is good, the plot isn't too cliche but does... more>> use some well known tropes. All in all, from start to Epilogue, the novel was one of the best I have ever read, being in a very tight competition with Overgeared and Seoul Station's Necromancer, maybe even as good as tr*sh of The Count's Family.

And then the author wrote the side stories. With barely 60 chapters, the author destroyed all of his hard work, sawing it appart and raw doging the remains of it. Before we get to that, I will have to preface it with a bit of an explanation. The reason why the MC is so, so dumb is because of a couple of certain characters intentionaly f*cking up his social skills. One of them, who is the most hated character in the wiki page despite the valiant efforts of a certain simp, brags about it and until the very epilogue gets away with everything that she has done to the MC. Up until that point, I was "Well, it could be better but it's not too bad".

And then along came Zeus the side stories. I will tell you this, I will completely spoil the side stories with what I am going to say. If you wish to read the novel spoiler free, avoid this, although I highly recommend you check the spoiler section here to understand why I say the novel died at the side stories.

Spoiler

The character that I mentioned before has groomed the MC to make sure he woulkd never be able to be with another woman, and even fueled his gambling addiction before dumping him, but when she saw that other people are interested in him, she came back acting like nothing happened. In the side stories, to force him back to her, she gets the MC drunk and [b]RAPES[/b] him. And everyone acts like it's okay. Then the Princess Hussey too decides to r*pe him because "He didn't respond fast enough to her feelings". And once again everyone is okay with it. And this happens with almost EVERY SINGLE FEMALE CHARACTER THAT IS INTERESTED IN HIM. The ending scene of the side stories series is his parents shaking hands as he stands with 8 pregnant women nearby. Wow. So r*pe is evil and bad when the other guys in Eva were doing it, because they were MEN, but once the female team members do it it's A-OKAY! And then I read back through the series and realized this; out of the entire series.... only 15-16 female characters get serious punishments for what crimes they have done. Let me list them out: the bit*h from the first selection area that kills the other girl for her coins, the red head archer that dies at the cart attack, the two women from Seol's first expendition, the as*hole archer woman in that bi-annual tournament that later joins his team, the woman in the finals of that tournament, the twin female bodyguards at the s*ave trader's store, the female lvl5 mercenary at the Valhalla manor raid, the female mob boss that fooled the queen of Eva, Sinyoung's eldest daughter, Vulgar Chastity, Twisted Kindness, Explosive Patience, and finally the Parasite Queen. EVERY SINGLE FEMALE LEAD IS "BLAMELESS" AND NEVER FACES REPERCUSSIONS FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE. No matter what. This made me disgusted and ruined the novel for me. Like, read carefully and tell me how many times you will see an evil female character versus a male one. The author is clearly biased I favor of women in this novel, and it shows how they wrote the ending with the side stories. This personaly ruined the whole thing for me. Black Jihu was the most solid character in there, and the most logical.

[collapse]

All in all, if you want to read this go ahead. But if you don't want to be disappointed, don't read the side stories. I wish I could turn back time and unread them, but that's impossible. So, here I am, warning you; pointing others to a treasure I cannot possess. <<less

I really don't understand how authors want to have badass MCs, but make their personality wimpy. The expectations that the title of this book gives are not fulfilled at all. Change the title to "Second Coming Of 4year old b**b-hugger" please.

Contrived harem/romance, with a weak willed MC, who only becomes strong when convenient for the author. MC always relies on borrowed powers etc.

Dropped.

Hands down one of the best if not the best novel I’ve ever read. There’s never a dull moment and the author does a wonderful job in making the readers attached to the characters. What struck me the most is how the author manages expertly evoke the emotions of those reading. Like, simply wow. It’s regrettable that I’ve only just stumbled upon this novel, but all the better is that I was able to read in bulk. What’s even more regrettable is that the novel is nearly over which I’m... more>> reluctant to see. Anyhow, don’t second guess reading this amazing novel. <<less

What I have read so far, I can only rate it for 3stars. Average.

If the author is a female, it's understandable. If it's a male, Ridiculous!

Know why?

- the MC acts like a kid even though he's already 26yrs. Old. He's more innocent than a 16yrs old teenager for a smoker guy like him. He suddenly becomes over considerate and compassionate. And also what's up with his family? Did the protagonist mu*der someone for them to be furious at him? He must be really bad, but why is he softhearted. Did... more>> someone hit his head 180 degrees?

-The story isn't really bad but, too many cliches. Maybe I've read so many books that I've gotten sick of how lucky the protagonist is. Coincidences where he finds himself in bad situation but lucky enough to find someone/something to save him. And also cutting words/scene when talking to someone or reading something, then MC just 'forgot' it like passing air and later on our MC remembers it 'vividly' like "I was listening to his words back then, but was interrupted by the sudden explosion". Bullshit!

All in all, average. But this is just my opinion. You people reading should give it a try and see if you like this novel. <<less

if you started this expecting a good romance on the side - pls get out before you dive too deep.

I liked the story a lot at first. But then comes the beta MC who runs away when someone teases him a little. It's ok, I told myself, I'm used to japanese harem mc's being like this. But the next chapter he goes and jokingly asks ***** if she wants to go to the hot tub with him. Consistency much lol

Also I do not understand the onesided hate for Yoo Seonhwa... more>> in the comment section. She really tried to help him, she didn't Maria-invest and run away when her investment crashed or anything. And the shop thing, Like a certain girl, us readers are really babying him and putting Seoul on a pedestal he shouldn't be on.

I just detest reading harems where everyone loves the MC and girls feel like collectibles. I really did like this story. But I might just drop it now and find something to soothe my broken heart.

my conclusion: I'll never read something based on it's ranking ever again <<less

This novel is overrated.

First MC is pathetic dumb idiot. He has an ability he doesn't even uses it and behaves like 16 year old japanese beta MC even though he is 26 year old f*cking gambling addict. He behaves like a naive idiot even though he had gone to university, done a job and also had a job in military. It just turn off the atmosphere of novel.

Second The author fails to capture the emotions and it feels bland.

That's talent, to be honest, this one of the few novels I have read and left me with a feeling that I´m reading a full-fledged novel.

What can I say that someone else already said in the reviews. This novel is the complete package, the way in which the author develops the story is pure quality something that is not seen very often in novels (light novels and web novels) nowadays.
-Seeing how many chapters are still left, let's see if can keep it up to the quality.

This novel is the concept of redemtion done right.

I pretty much like this concept as I am a fan of mushoku tensei.

People don't change easily and tr*sh can't be turn to gold suddently, this is my believe.

... more>> In this novel, it been protray pretty well, some gamble addict, a tr*sh for many years going back home and tell them I am sorry, I quit now. In reality, no one will beleive that. That scene is super realistic in this novel.

The gamble addict who just suddently got the futher feeling and dream like memory can't change immediately too.

So we get to see the process of how the MC will change himeself.

This is not done within 1 moment either. It take many chapter to progress this process.

This is a fight against self. Not many novels have this fighting scene. (Other novel always have many fight scenes with other enemy though not themself)

This is what I like about this story. Other than this is cliche plot which I must admit I like it: tutorial survival game, another world, advanture and status window. Combinding all, it make me addict to story. LoL <<less

Way over rated. Gary sue main character waffles around. The plot already feels like its stagnating, and side cast just exist to prop up the main character. Combat scenes are boring, and MC conveniently meets a variety of beautiful women who all express interest in him.

Very interesting story. I hope the new translator will be able to work as well as the old one.

The change of title fron" The second coming of Avarice" to the "The Second Coming of Gluttony" is interesting.

As I am Italian I was aware that the god Gula is gola, gluttony, and the protagonist is under her (she seem a female good to me, in this novel) eyes from the start. And from what I recall the protagonist felled into his gambling addiction the moment in which he won a... more>> lot and was able to buy delicious food.

Strangely, so far, most of the characters don't seem to show traits linked to the protector god. Even the MC hadn't lapses related to his sin. <<less
