I have to say, I truly like this novel, not for the comedy or for the plot that does get repetitive, or even for the characters - a certain MC being pervy and such - no, I truly love this novel just from the introduction to many different subjects that make this story great. Sure it might exceedingly be plagued with comments on plagiarism and possibly infringement but without this novel I personally would've never encountered more than half of the works here, ranging from poetry, to commercials to even... more>> speeches and programs etc. If not for this novel I would've never seen or heard any of them. This includes several speeches, one in particular, where I've never heard of before this novel but after this novel I will never forget and even search it up looking for the original. And not just that one particular one either, several poems and commercials really surprised me. But this is just my opinion. To me it was a truly memorable read. And if you want to read something that introduces different types of works from many fields and is a break from all the xianxia and other types of novels than I truly recommend this one. Not that it doesn't have its faults but which novel doesn't have. <<less

There are two huge problems with this novel. First, it’s clearly aimed at Chinese audiences. I didn’t get a single reference. I couldn’t understand most of the hero’s behavior either. Nothing about the government control, bosses’ constant attempts to blatantly break the law, or his tendency to solve every problem with violence is relatable.

Second, this novel has way too much filler. The chapters become 90% filler (in the form of online comments or tr*sh talk) after 100 chapters or so. It just becomes a repeating series of: hero does X,... more>> tons of tr*sh talk and critism of X, he succeeds. The hero feels too simple. He just seems to be doing random things with no plan on how to become famous. With all the knowledge you’d think he’d at less try to plan ahead. <<less

1) MC starting a job - 2) everyone ignores him - 3) he comes up with a wild idea that everyone is flabbergasted by - 4) everyone looks down & ridicules him - 5) he proves everyone wrong - 6) now everyone simply reverses their opinion by praising him to the high heavens - 7) he then has a short stint of success & praises - 8) his boss/higher authorities shut him down - 9) he then goes on a face smacking tirade on his superiors - 10) finally he loses his job/quits.

Then for the next arc simply go back to step 1.

This is a story full of fun and jokes!

Don't be serious, like those reviewers who give poor score, but read it and become a face smacking adict ! ;) Yes the MC is not always a nice guy, but nobody is perfect and at least you learn a lot about chinese literature and how to become et good troll ! XD

Really there is a great depth in the text and I discovered great poems, books and others with this novel.

This is a shitty novel, and I'll tell you why.
Spoiler

1. The MC is f**ked up. He has childish personality and constantly harrasses people around. For examaple, there is this one time when his landlord let him sleep with her, I repeat, it's sleep, not s*x. (I honestly don't know why.) But he still sexually harrassed her anyway, 'cuz reasons, the worse part is that she even let him do it.

Another example is when he beat up that Korean popstar for no reason. Sure he pushed his fan, making her fall, but that's quite normal given how enthusiastic she was. (I mean c'mon, they're K-Pop fans, and most K-pop fans are like that.) Not only did he not apologize, he even said the guy deserved it?!! I'm even more surprised that the police did not arrest him for that, I mean he literally beat anotehr celebrity up in front of the press, if this was real life, his career would have been screwed!

2. Once again, he's a horriblr person, not for his childish personality but his entire career. He literally just steals other people's works, and that's f*cked up.

3. This novel is to stroke Chinese already sky-high self-esteem. It always paints foreigers in a very very bad light.

4. Overused plot, I can tell you the whole story. MC went somewhere > Got famous > Got defamed by his own company..? (What the f*ck?) > He quit his job > And repeat. Sometime they throw in stuff like his fans defending him, but if you really thought about it, they're pretty much defending a racist, sexist, childish as*hole that doesn't deserve their affection at all.

5. Too damn long, same old overused plot but over one thousand f*cking chapters?!! The author seriously needs to stop milking this sh*t since it has already used up all of its potential, the only people who give this a high-rating are mostly Chinese with very very s*upid view of patriot.

At first, this novel seemed rather interesting and entertaining to read. However some of the MC's logic, and attitude is starting to disappoint me. There are instances when I just feel that what the MC does is very justifiable and praiseworthy. However, there are also instances that I feel like the MC is just being petty, or doing things way overboard. I'm currently at ch, 224 and there is a scene that I felt was the MC just really overreacted.

Spoiler

When the MC was filling in his name, and was asked for an Westernized nickname, the MC just flipped out, and became uncivilized. This is a workplace mind you, and in any other place that I know of, his actions could be grounds for severe reprimand or even termination, and justly so. Who flips out, yells and makes a scene over such a minor matter? He could've handled matters in a more civil manner, and talk things out plainly, but he decided to forgo all niceties and go berserk... And using the word "White Overlords"... seriously? Heck, I'm not even white and I'm offended by it... And I heard that this even gets worse in the later chapters... So the MC wants to be a superstar; and the ultimate superstar is world renowned, and is recognized by people all over the world as a figure. But if the MC starts being racist, doesn't that conflict with his ultimate goal? The MC seems so self-righteous and very ultra-nationalistic manner, yet he has the gall to rip-off foreign works from the real world like Alice in Wonderland, and many other things...

[collapse]
I'll keep reading some more, but if the MC really degenerates into being more unreasonable, petty and racist, then I'm dropping this. /Sigh... Could've been a really good novel though. <<less

Great f*cking story. No, it's not the best writing you will ever read. But it's certainly better than a majority of other web novels you will come by. The story and comedy makes up for every part of the writing. And the fact that it's also centered so much around comedy, makes the fact that the MC is very overpowered, less noticeable so to say.

The only downside is the fact that there is a lot of chinese litterature in it. Where the translation loses a lot of the meaning. The... more>> poems aren't at all necessary to the story though, so it doesn't really matter that much.

It's also one of those stories where it doesn't really matter if you can only read one chapter everyday, which makes it great for the web novel format. <<less

*Biased Review of mine*

The Novel is Very Well Written by the Author in terms of Pacing and the Characterization and includes all the facts of the story, which involves Piracy Works of poems/rhymes/songs/etc. Of MC's Old World in the New and a petty MC with a huge Cheat. The Author keeps repeating the fact that the works which are submitted by the MC are the works of famous persons and not giving it face, is similar to not giving the famous persons of the old world face. It just skips... more>> the fact where the MC himself says that he does not understand most of what he is saying and only knows when to use it. So? What that means is that the MC is building his base to Stardom based on others hard work and he himself Does Not have the Required Talent. If he gets in a hard spot, he just uses a very useful lottery system luck token to avoid it and not use any of his own skill or something he can do by himself.

Though the antagonists are very realistic. There are good guys and bad guys as well, but most are looking out for their own people and try to screw the rest of them.

This is a very unrealistic and biased towards MC with his cheat skills novel in a very realistic world.

These things are the facts from what I observed reading up to the current chapters. These may change in the future and maybe the MC can try hard to reach his goals and not just depend on the cheat skill, but that would mean this Novel lost its meaning and theme.

TL;DR: Read it for the satisfaction of where a normal guy gets his dream come true presented in a very comedic undertone using cheat skills. I'd give it a lesser rating, but like I said; the Author does what he does the best. <<less

i started reading this around 1 am, I read all the way until like 2pm, then I slept and read again from 8 pm to 9 pm, I spent a whole 14 hours of reading on this neglecting sleep. You really should give this a try, my favorite part is that the MC is basically telling the story to you while having hilarious inner thoughts that don't reflect what hes doing on the outside many times (mostly related to money).

Let's be honest.

This is a pretty well written but generic "Climb to the top", "Showbiz", "office drama" kind of story. It's the cross between those "female professional" potboiler romance novels and the "Semi-comedic Xuanhuan" genre, with the interesting twist taking the usual setting of the first and applying the mechanics and tone of the second.

There are clear mechanical problems with the writing, and it's clear that the author's pacing is pretty much off. Reasonable conflict/protagonist character arc/growth clearly is also a major letdown, but that's expected in this kind of... more>> genre. (At least it isn't over the top escalation all the time, which is why I'll cut it some slack there).

The Translation is quite good, managing to convey the jokes/puns quite well. This should be applauded as the novel doesn't work without them!

I'm sure all of my comments make me seem kind of down on this novel. And it's true. If judging it like fine literature or as a cohesive story I wouldn't give this more than 3 stars.

But the Author is basically like a Chinese Deadpool. This is a series you should read for the author's side comments, 4th wall breaking, and shenanigans alone.

The author sets out to have a lighthearted comedy and he pretty hits it spot on. For that, 4 stars. <<less

Funnily enough, people complain about plagiarism here and there, when in reality, the author credits anything he uses and weaves it into the story. In fact, this novel single-handedly taught me so much about Chinese literature—things I would have never bothered reading otherwise. It's sad to see it get smothered by Chinese censorship.

Regardless, the novel was a pleasure to read. The main character is overpowered, but the plot is interesting and kept me engaged and entertained. From poetry to history, that was the highlight of the novel for me. I... more>> wish they had continued, but sadly, this work focuses on a superstar in the making, so documentaries weren't really the priority.

Either way, I highly recommend picking this up and giving it a go. And don't get cold feet just because the author canceled it; the story was pretty much approaching the finish line, and you aren't losing out much. <<less

Oh god, where do I even begin. If there was ever a peak racist novel trying to pass itself off as patriotism this would be its' grandfather. There simply isn't any way of disregarding the fact that the author has no sense of where the line is between liking your own country and putting down everyone else to make yourself look better. It's a complete disappointment because I actually did start out liking this novel, MC's ethics aside. There isn't any point in reading this, it'll only make your day... more>> worse. The sheer ignorance shown by the MC makes him worse than hi*ler in my eyes, at least hi*ler was trying to do something good in an extremely misguided way. Welcome to I'm Really a Plagiarist, where our lead plagiarist Zhang Ye poses to no end and talks in poems just to show you that yes, he can plagiarize at any moment or time of the day.

Oh my! Plagiarism you say? Well, what did you expect my friend, intellectual conquest of the world? Daring pioneering?

No! Never! How dare you expect anything beyond factory produced cheap gimmicks and posturing! This is some REAL made in China sh*t right here boy! -spits to the side-

Cheating game elements are outdated in these modern times, so we must go beyond tradition and seek new ways to greatness! By ripping off history from one world and using it in a -gasp- parallel world that's almost exactly the same except everything can be improved on! (with some plagiarizing). Oh, don't forget the super convenient gaming cheats. Up down down right up f*ck this shit.

Oops language.

The core point of the story is the MC using someone else's work to bullsh*t his way to fame. This little unpleasant tidbit is usually covered up by an extra large dosing of "patriotism" mixed with the occasional happy racism, and some other distractions involving misrepresented romance, comedy, etcetera. Lots and lots of bashing included.

Sure it's bearable up to this point. And I gotta say in advance, the story really should have focused on the humor aspect, instead of what it's doing now. It was comedy gold at one point, or so I like to think.

What makes it all so sickening is that the MC, as of recent chapters, is so empty of character apart from pure aggression and holy sh*t forced patriotism. MC = "I can't stand for unfairness so I'll smash you!" plus "I'm all for the people!" multiplied by "I wanna be famous as hell!".

I mean, I get it. Really I do. Catharsis is great, nothing wrong with that. Man do I like me some of that fapping release. But this gets to the point where the MC figuratively wanders around everywhere with his pants off and the plot is always set up to send trouble his way just so he can piss on it and plagiarize a poem in the aftermath.

The only saving grace is, or was, the comedy... which is turning stale. As of the recent chapters, I don't see the point of reading further because the storyline's been on the same ongoing trend for a while now and no signs of it breaking. Fun while it lasted I guess?

But yeah I totally recommend this. Maybe. <<less

First I found this story fresh and interesting at the time. But then as the story progress, It's getting repetitive. Most of the story arc is about getting underestimated, harassed then MC face smacking the one harassing him. The difference is that the media varied such as radio, advertis**ent, presenter, writer, etc.

Still, It was quite entertaining so I rated it as okay.

I'm Really A Superstar started out as a refreshing novel about a nobody underdog's story and his rise to becoming famous. The beginning was great and like many others said the first few hundred chapters are good, excluding the romance. This formula would have worked better if the author actually made Zhang Ye a likeable person. Zhang Ye is truly an major douchebag man child. In the novel he basically ruins other people's lives and we are supposed to laugh and be like "Oh Zhang Ye you little rascal" but... more>> from what has happened thus far, Zhang Ye has had no character development and likely will not. Basically Zhang Ye is someone who shows no remorse for his actions and is a total as*hole to people who don't immediately love him and his work. For example, he ruined several people's lives with his cheat system and it gets casually glossed over like it's nothing. A prime example of this is how a government official who probably would keep him banned gets sent to the hospital because the system lowered the difficulty and Zhang Ye acts as if it's his just desserts. If Zhang Ye was a real person, he probably wouldn't actually be able to be a superstar because of his pettiness and craziness.

Zhang Ye is also xenophobic to the extreme. Whenever a chinese person does something to him, it's the individual's fault. Whenever a foreigner does something to him, it's the entire people's fault. Like for example, a korean idol pissed him off so what does Zhang Ye do? He insults all koreans. Then when hackers attack chinese celebrities, he proceeds to ruin the entire country by giving them a virus that nearly destroys the korean economy. We're supposed to think that Zhang Ye is a good nationalist but all he really does is overreact to foreigners while doing less towards other chinese people. A lot of the things he preaches and uses are from other countries but Zhang Ye shamelessly uses them while also hating the countries that they originated from.

Other than Zhang Ye, the other characters also have no real development. Basically everyone is a what you see is what you get. It's sad when arguably the best character is a little girl who goes "Hur, hur". The cousins don't feel like family but rather leeches who come to Zhang Ye to get money or favors. The mom is a shameless person, which isn't too bad in all honesty, but essentially all the characters feel stale.

Now onto the romance. It feels like a cat caller would have more game than Zhang Ye. There should be a "Do Not Try This At Home" attached to all the romance scenes because it reads like something out of japanese p*rnography, where Zhang Ye is able to s*x up girls because he fondles them. Now thus far, he hasn't actually had s*x yet, but he has continuously groped and felt up a bunch of the female characters. You might think this form of courtship wouldn't work, but surprisingly it does, and more importantly, he basically voyeurs a woman into a relationship with him. What really pisses me off about the romance is that it is less earned than even xianxia romances, because at least in xianxia, the MC saves the girl's life, or there is a reasonable time period with ambiguous feelings, but here Zhang Ye is literally a creeper who takes pictures of a supposedly cultured woman who agrees to go out with him because he lowered the difficulty. This is like someone who drugged someone's drink and then slept with them thinking that it's fine since they weren't actually unconscious or resisting. Altogether the story started out great but in my opinion, Zhang Ye slowly but surely starts ruining the novel. I'm not dropping this novel because I'm still hoping that there is actual character development or that Zhang Ye stays in China because I don't think that Zhang Ye would be able to make it on an international scale. Altogether I'll give the novel a 3.5/5. <<less

Spoiler

To people not liking this novel because the MC makes enemies everywhere he goes or because of character flaws, do remember what kind of novel you are reading, Chinese novel. It will have mix of Chinese culture, racist views (of foreign nations, especially Korea... don't read if you can't take it as a joke of some form jeez), arrogant/pe*verted MC... just read the tags okay.

Zhang Ye is a man of standards, and isn't afraid of making enemies of the whole world (which he pretty much does) if they touch upon his bottom line (profit margin). However, at least the reason why he makes enemies is realistic. Employers want to steal or profit off his plagiarized ideas while he is suppose to willingly give up his ideas and hard work just to keep his job? (Most the racism, attitude, and hypocrisy in this novel is to build character and likely the author's criticism of some culture's working condition, where people in higher position profits off everyone below them... sounds familiar or you guys just in denial?) Course he does what everyone would logically WANT to do, rejects the scam, gets put in difficult position, waits to get fired/ or resigns, and then get's blacklisted in part of the community since the boss knows other people in the field, then onward to search for a new job, repeat. I know it sounds a bit repetitive but with the many fields he goes into, this novel is enriching the whole time, take it from someone who read more than 1400 chapters of the raw.

For people disliking Zhang Ye's mother or cousin.... they are suppose to be annoying and in a way, it's nostalgic how correct he portrays those character (at least I'm Asian and that's literally how my relatives act... sadly). Could be biased but if a side character can make someone feel some sort of emotions from their actions, it justifies quality.

Highly recommended and thanks GT for the great translation, some of the literature is really hard to translate into English, but I just got hooked so reading both the raw and English releases.

All in all, the novel is good and a worthwhile read. It kind of have a predictable plot - where the MC always end up being victorious, but I like it anyway. It feels so exciting when the mc's counterattack leave others in shock (even I was schock! LoL). And eventhough I knew that the MC will be able to turn any unfavorable situation, I always get excited anticipating how he will do it, Haha!

It is also worth mentioning that the poems/excerpts mentioned in the novel are without a doubt... more>> great. The profound meaning of those poems I don't really understand much, but the feelings they wish to convey are really powerful and capable of stirring one's emotion. I may be overreacting, but I did cry on several occasions :p

I think rather than plagiarizing, the novel intent was more into making the readers appreciate those poems/excerpts in modern day. <<less
