This is a children's story, MC never grows up. There are no arcs nothing, plot is all over the place, there is no saying what MC will do at any moment.

The only good thing about this novel is it's world building but still I cant read this thing if MC is soo childish and soo f*ckkking "perfect". Everything he does will turn out good and everything under heavens will be under him. There is just not enough tension in the novel, everything seems light hearted and chill. Buddha is always... more>> bad and hypocrite. <<less

Refreshing take on a cultivation novel (think of it like a happy/fun novel with bouts of seriousness and mystery). This novel truly shines out from the "typical" cultivation novel for several reasons:

  1. World building and plot progression is simply fascinating. Most stories will start with MC in a backwater place and constantly move to newer and more powerful regions like a linear line. Here we get lotus-like storyline where MC is born directly in the most dangerous and mysterious place on his planet (center of the lotus). We see tidbits of the terror and mysterious of the place he lives, however, he is not powerful enough to explore it. The story progresses and MC will leave his home (to the lotus leaves), explore other parts of the world (unique cultivation methods in every location) and then return home where he is slightly more powerful and can explore more of his home. The mystery is also done well.
  2. Side characters is where I think this novel truly stands out. We have such likable cast and its truly a joy reading about them: the hilarious MC, the cast of the "disabled elderly village, " the female leads, the unique villains who have their own thoughts. Everyone, including most of the villains, are likable in this novel and that's a huge positive. There are a few arrogant people but to my surprise, they actually change. When the arrogant people meet MC and lose to him, they actually progress as characters and learn from their lessons (some of my favorite characters started as arrogant jerks).
  3. Power progression. Here we truly have a genius MC with unique techniques and methods. He will learn from others and then make his OWN methods. Not only that, there are other genius characters in the novel who create their own techniques and share these techniques with MC and grow stronger together. The world doesn't revolve entirely around MC. Its really refreshing to see a new power scale as well and different ways to power up - I'm sick of the whole hey look we found this super rare 500 year old plant, lets consume it and get stronger.
  4. The novel actually gets better the more you read. If you didn't like the beginning, please try to stick a bit longer as the world is constantly being built upon with new locations, new people, new cultivation techniques, new villains and I certainly like the novel way more currently (700+) than I did at the beginning. It doesn't fizzle out like many other cultivation novels who have a strong start and fall apart. Here it keeps up the great action, unique fights, amazing villains, and the whole cast gets stronger together and go to different worlds.
Its a shame that translation has stopped currently, I hope it gets picked back up so I can finish it.

I would also recommend Rise of Humanity by the same author if you enjoyed this novel (I actually prefer RoH to... more>> this novel due to the more serious setting but both are amazing novels. I would view this novel as a happy/funny novel with bouts of seriousness compared to RoH which is a more serious novel with hilarious moments) <<less

It's not perfect by any means, but compared to literally any other Chinese webnovel, it's leagues ahead.

Amazing worldbuilding, clever power scaling, some genuinely funny moments (I rarely EVER laugh at webnovels,) interesting characters, all on top of a well-planned out story. It can be a little slow in the beginning but I didn't mind, personally.

NU seems to be behind on the chapters, by the way. I found chapters over 1000 on other sites.

Wow. For this review i’m not going to go into the plot, for you yourself should explore it.
If we used the idiom: “aged like fine wine” for novels, this would be the one it describes best.

À première vue you would think this novel is just your average wuxia novel. Which it entirely isn’t, There are no clichés like we see so often we could take example of the:“arrogant young master”. No 1000’s of characters which we forgot after the MC gains a powerup and leaves the world.

I have never... more>> seen a novel who incorporates the past so beautifully into the present. I must applaud the author for doing this. If you have read the novel, you will completely understand what I meant by this.

Contrary to expectations the MC is NOT evil nor is he a righteous dickhead, he is the perfect mix who just wants to make sure his own civilization has a chance of survival by not being oppressed by the heavens.

Read the novel yourself and experience the Eternal Peace reform. <<less

This is basically The Sword of Truth, but written by a fanatical communist with a persecution complex towards religion rather than a fanatical anti-communist with an S&M fetish. Though, thankfully, it's not as poorly written as SoT (yet). Still, unless you can force your way through the dogma, propaganda and armies of straw men, you won't be able to enjoy the story.

A villain? Not really.

First of all, I do like this, but it's not really for me. The writing itself isn't bad. It's not the best, but it reads fluidly, minus a couple modern phrases/word/term here and there. But the story, the themes are the real meat.

If I have to describe this series, it's basically a story set in a post apocalyptic world that once reached the height of cultivation, but is ultimately destroyed by either demons or Gods from another world. The region that MC is from is basically the... more>> "ground zero", the area that was hit so bad from the apocalyptic event, that it is still effected to this day (hence the darkness) and its people cursed to live in this area and disdained by the people who lives outside of it.

The story features a very special boy who was raised by several of the most powerful figures of their era, each who choose to exile themselves for various reasons, but loves the MC and passes much of their skills to him. Upon "adulthood" the boy travels outside of his region, dazzle the world with his talents/sharp mind, and becomes the leader of a powerful but hated organization the promotes cooperation and the sharing of knowledge between peers, and hence, is labelled as an "evil" or an "unorthodox" order by their rivals, which are led by the followers of Buddhism and Taoism. But, I don't sense either groups to be evil. True, the author bashes the followers of Buddhism up and down, but the primary conflict of the story feels more like a case of progressivism vs traditionism.

Spoiler

At first, the villains of the story seems to be the Empire that threatened to invade MC's homeland and the Prime Minister seems to be set up as the big bad, but later, it turns out that they are actually the champions of progressivism, that have improved the lives of the common people greatly and taken lands that were traditionally belonged to the sects and handing them back to peasants and commonfolks. Their conquest and slow but firm centralization of their government is actually doing a lot more good than harm. And their philosophy actually lines up with MC's pretty well. Later on, MC's faction and the empire would actually work together and they would become extremely close allies. I like this. Normally, the empire in question would be evil to the core and would be wiped out by the MC when he gets absurdly strong, but no. It turns out, they're actually doing a lot of good in the world and they seems to be spared from the fate that befell so many big bad empire in xianxia. It's a breath of fresh air to see this development.

But, with such strong themes, the story still feels very light-hearted to me. Right, there are a lot of death, massacres, and even torture, but... I'm kinda desensitized to that already. There are a lot of jokes, a lot of gags that made me laugh, but it also saps the seriousness of certain situation for me. Some developments actually feels too silly to even be possible. Or at least, the reaction of such would be much darker/violent.

I dislike that after MC leaves his home, he joins an academy and learns like a student when he is already so powerful and have already endured so much, but it's easier to take when I consider that he is only twelve, thirteen at the time. MC is still a child, right, but some of his opponents actually reads like a child to me too. A lot of bad stuff happens, a lot of people does bad stuff, but some of them are brushed aside when the Prime Minister is revealed to be the big good of the series. Once the good guys are revealed to be good guys (or is hinted that they would be good), they don't really get any karma for the bad stuff they have already done, which seems weird to me. At the very least, the King of Poison should get some real sh*t for poisoning the Empress, but that's just me. MC himself is a huge karma houdini. But, while everybody claims that he is evil, he is closer to unorthodox, with all the makings of a modern saint. And yes, he really is quite clever.

The romance... is terrible. There are a lot of love interest and I think this story is going to be a harem, but it's not really done very well. MC is extremely dense with relationship. He's like a Japanese light novel protagonist. And some of the love interests aren't really that good. Like, one love interest nearly swindled all of his treasures, and he's actually grateful to her for letting him use his own money, the heck? And there's that snake lady. Ugh. There are so good love interests too, but all in all, this story isn't a romance, or a harem focused story. That's all I have to say about that. But, the other relationships in the novel is very well done. Through the MC, I have grown to care for certain characters and even love interest, though I doubt anything would get into this block of rock. Maybe there might be some development by chapter 500, but that's a tad too late for me.

There are hints of a greater threat in the future, the Gods that lives beyond his world and the ones who destroyed the old civilization. MC will definitely come into conflict with them, as MC is later revealed to be a descendant of that very civilization and that bits and pieces of that civilization are hinted to have survived to the current era. The war between the world and the Gods would be something to see, as this is the same society that created "Sun Ships" and "Moon Ships" and have calculated ways that allowed even normal mortals to ascend to Godhood one day.

Some of you may notice that my terms are a bit modern, that's because modern is what I feel from the story. Let me summarize this story in another way: The story features a boy who journeys across a world whose highly advanced civilization was once hit by apocalyptic event, probably caused by aliens, learning and spreading knowledge/ancient technologies across the land, befriending liked-minded peers and making enemies of powerful men who guards the secrets of their power and advancement from the common men.

[collapse]

Which is why, while I like this story, it's not for me. I prefer a more traditional xianxia story. I might be able to read this further than 400 if the romance is good, but like I said, it's terrible. Or at least non-existent. But, I will recommend this story to anyone who just wants a good read. And even though I have repeatedly claimed that this story isn't suitable for my taste, I would probably come back to it since it's written so well and I haven't encountered any major bugs yet. I just hope the romance improves by then. <<less

Quick review: read it for a dynamic story between a multitude of well developed characters, not necessarily for the world/powers.

Full review:

Im at ch1800ish about 50 from the end.

Spoiler

I will finish it, I just need a break from the despair of OP enemies that keep popping up, near the end

[collapse]

I've read a lot of these kinds of novels and this is definitely one of the best.

Main characters likeable, enemies arent always detestable. Its not repetitive, decisions makes sense, characters consitent for the most part with his development. Side characters stay relevant... all that good stuff, not falling into usual tropes.

Especially how so many fights seem to be a huge toss up on who benefits from it. Theres so much going on and so many parties involved with their own motives and goals. Same reason why people liked GoT before the last season.

Saying that, there are a couple downsides:

After a while the world stops making sense, or at the very least you can follow along, but picturing whats going on can be difficult. Especially when the power and the location are very abstract.

Theres not enough sunshine after the rain after a certain point in the story.

Enemies can overstay their welcome

And the MC could do with more kickass moments to make it more rewarding.

Couple of the downsides are just personal preferences.. honestly theres parts of this story that are so interesting and gripping, I had to stop and appreciate it.

All in all. World building isnt the best, neither is the cultivation as fleshed out. But the dynamics of the story, the characters development and their interactions with other characters makes it a really good read.

This is good. Insanely good.

I've never seen the plot, the background and the world building so well connected and making so much sense.

It takes a while for MC to grow up, but it's necessary and so worth it later.

... more>> EVERY character is well written! I'm not joking. I've never seen this before. I can't read most novels anymore now, cause my standards rose so high while reading this masterpiece. They all seem like real people, who can be partially good, partially bad, and can change their worldview. Mind blowing writing quality.

Lastly, I get extremely angry when I read the highest negative comments by people who either read some machine-translation (which distorts 80% of the meaning), or only 100 chapters and already make up their mind about this amazingly planned gem. Unbelievable <<less

The MC is the best and worst part of this novel. He is like Bao Xiaochun from "A Will Eternall" meaning he is a genius with weird and out of the box way of doing things bringing disaster and comic relief. He is the number one genius in his world, understanding every single technique or skill in a few hours (and his friends in a few days). The author will spend entire chapters explaining a new cultivation system, just for the MC to get it in a few seconds.

The plot... more>> armors are huge too, at some point the MC randomly finds an island with a goldly artefact which can kills pretty much everyone, with no repercussion. When the story advances we learn that the the MC has an immense power sealed in him, wich he can unsealed for free and can use it to fight against the top power of this world (and top meaning N°1 of a whole civilization). The MC is never placed in a difficult situation.

His friends are all MC's level character. A random monster he encounters at the start of the novel can become one of the wisest buddha in the world without doing anything. The MC is so OP that the author has to make some unrealistic choice to keep his friend in the story.

The world is still kept at a relativly human scale, you have a main small realm (the size of a human empire) with a few other realm and thats' it. There is no exposition spam and there's still a lot of mysteries in the world and its history.

Don't expect any story lines. The MC is very fast at the top of his world, encountering the top characters, and just go to random places where he slowly unravel the mystery of his world. There is no arc, no "new world" or "new beginning".

For the tag :

Harem : There is no romance at all, the MC has a lot of admirers, male or female and that's it.

Comedy : same style as "A Will Eternall", but with a poorer execution.

Adventure : The MC barely goes to new horizon, when he does it's only for 3-5 chapters with a godly character protecting him.

Mystery : it concerns the history of the world, what happens in the different eras, it's the only thing that will make you stick to the novel after a few hundred chapters (that and the comedy). <<less

The first several hundred chapters are good if not great but after that the quality just divebombs.

Spoiler

The MC has far too much plot armor. The MCs having confrontations with final power level cultivators for the last five hundred chapters while his plot armor kept him alive.

He literally gets an item that lets him kill high level cultivators if he asks it nicely.

The last several hundred chapters has just been waiting for the MCs power level to catch up to everyone else so they can introduce the new power level. Its boring.

[collapse]

I can see why this novel is rated so high its because nobody has read to the current release and its still decent around five hundred chapters. But once you get past a thousand chapters its gets tedious and boring. Unless its really picks up my final rating for this novel will be a one out of five for wasted potential.

Edit

Spoiler

Up until the end the story quality continued to lower and became convoluted and nonsensical. The MC went from being unkillable because of his status to literally being unkillable and could only be sent back in time to get rid of him.

[collapse]

My rating for this novel stays the same after finishing it for the great potential this novel had wasted. <<less

One of the best novels I ever read (and I read a lot)

THG or TOHG is just perfect for anyone that is tired of the same novels. There's a lot of paths in cultivation, a lot of strange things and every side character has his own personality. I mean, everyone has his own path as well his own history, It goes from MC's elders to the most useless characters.

Maybe not everyone will understand the true meaning of what I said before: with this of every character having his... more>> own personality we see their paths to becoming a god and every path is just too unique that you love seeing the fights and knowing about theirs past.

Furthermore, this novel has a lot of potencial, since the world of humans is not entire explored yet, and there's still the 'world of gods', and maybe another planet or domain, whatever the author wants to put. It has too much potential.

This is too good for me, damn, I love this novel that my english is not good enough to I express that I think. <<less

ATM it's a very strong start to a xuanhuan novel - MC is raised by questionable disabled elderly people and he's slowly getting OP from their training. It mixes comedy but makes sure to progress the plot as it does so. If you want an entertaining start you should read this, it's certainly got potential.

This novel is really good, I am the type of reader to read something and drop it typically around 100 chapters on average, less than 30 if its horrible and around 300 if its good, but this novel is really good I stuck around up to chapter 1182, at one point I stopped because I had things going on irl but I surprisingly came back and continued reading it. I have read many many many cultivation novels and even more chinese novels and somehow this one feels very authentic to... more>> me, I felt the passion author had behind this story and that they loved making it, throughout I never really felt bored and I think thats because
Spoiler

the main character is a man on a mission he never stops advancing he has alot on his shoulders to the point he doesn't consider romance even though he felt it but decided to sacrifice it for his people, he is not selfish for example

Spoiler

a typical main character that receives an ancient inheritance with a super god tier technique would do what? Hide hide hide from even his closest family, Our mc? He gives it away to everyone he knows his family, and the nation he is from just so they can all advance and become stronger

[collapse]

, he is also vulnerable and although he may seem OP Arrogant MC type at first glance there is a lot of nuance behind him as a character, the burden on his shoulders are massive and as a character he is very charismatic.

Spoiler

what made me love the MC even more was how he chose to sacrifice his own path and possibly creating new realms for the sake of his people because it would take too long, so he decided to take the less perfect path for them.

[collapse]

he is arrogant yet humble at the same time and I love the relationship he has with the elders from disabled elderly village, how they never really become irrelevant, how he depends on them to increase his comprehension of his celestial palaces.

and I enjoy how this story shows that MC becomes a leading figure for all of the worlds as a path opener for all races even though the other path openers (celestial venerables) are a thousand times stronger than him, even enemies show him respect before attempting to kill him, regardless of their social standing.

[collapse]

although extremely miniscule there are indeed things I dislike or more accurately not to my taste

Spoiler

even though the characters are all fully fleshed out, it just feels disingenious to me how most of them are extremely self-beneficial to the point of sacrificing even their children for a tiny benefit or a slight offense, they do this behind a massively polite exterior so they seem very friendly kind and gentle then they will kill you, throughout the story everyone is very polite and even when they bare their mu*derous intent its behind polite words. Although this is fun and novel its very easy to become pessimistic and paint everyone in this light since most characters outside of MC's close relationships show this attitude. What I like though is that the author knows he does this and I think alludes to the fact that since the story is being narrated from MC's POV this is what he really thinks of the world because at one point he meets a very pure character and says that he admires him for he lives and thinks purely in this pessimistic world

[collapse]

i don't do reviews often so this one is probably not good, really its just my thoughts and theres a million things I didn't mention. Overall there is very little repetitions (rare for such a long story) and my skimming if any was very rare maybe like 6 times and only because I wanted to skip the description of the place. I really recommend reading this if you are wandering and looking for something to read because if you are like me and read alot and didnt read this then I dont think you will find a better story out there.

P.S haha shoulda seen the look on my face when I reached the final tled chapter and there was no next button, I didn't know how many chapters there were and since I reached 1k I expected there would probably be more, I got into a routine and when that next chapter button vanished I was shellshocked and doubted my vision for a few seconds <<less

Wow, love it! There are very few asian novels that don't follow the same types of script and this is one of them!

Most importantly, I can't predict what's gonna happen! Every time there's a typical situation from other novels it develops completely different. It's like watching live people act!

1. The plot is not all over the place. It is a huge exposition, yet don't worry, it's still entertaining.

2. You have to be patient. He's not "over powered" in an unrealistic sense.

3. There are many names, so read in a way you will remember. People will come back multiple times.

4. There aren't many allusions. It's easy to understand.

Having read this far, I'm very disappointed. This Novel is a good read. It is interesting and entertaining, with magnificent world-building which I'd barely (barely) place among the high-level Eastern Fantasy World-Building tier.

If I have to think of a story with the highest similarities to the world-building of this Novel, Warlock of a Magus World would be most fitting.

Even though the world building is good, something you might not like is that the author tends to add unnecessary philosophy and explanations to make the story appear profound and deep,... more>> but most of these additions just have grand looking words and statements that aren't meaningful or understandable, so you'll just end up flipping over the pages. Even so, that hasn't bothered me. Most of the eastern fantasy stories are like this anyway.

The character development isn't too bad. Some characters have depth and personality, especially the elders of the disabled village who are some of the most interesting characters in the story. There are a lot of interesting ones, but there are also a lot of forgettable and uninteresting characters whose personalities are sometimes repeated and can be mistaken for one another.

The author's writing style is that a greatly written character is easily recognized and much appreciated, but similarly, poorly written characters are very noticeable and they can be so bad that you can't help but wonder how the same author who wrote these great characters, messed up this much and wrote something this terrible.

As for character interactions, they can be hilarious and interesting but after getting into the story, they become somewhat boring and repetitive. Though, it's not to the point that it becomes bad, you just start to smile less and less with every new chapter, and it becomes somewhat rare for any new interactions to be something you haven't already seen several times before in the story.

Well, the story has flaws but also some good points. And so far, what I've written, frankly isn't enough to stop reading this Novel, but...

Even so, I absolutely can't tolerate this Novel any longer, and why is that?

Spoiler

It's simply because of the damned protagonist, Qin Mu. This guy is the throughout definition of a Mary Sue.

It has been a long time since I had ever seen any character so perfect as Qin Mu. It is as if he can do anything, no - He can do just about everything!

It is as if he is the God and Jesus in the author's heart.

Boy, I thought the MC of Library of Heaven's Path was a perfectionist who excelled in all paths but wait until you meet Qin Mu. Even Zhang Xuan still had some limits. But Qin Mu?

This guy is just 15 years old and is already infallible, unbeatable, arrogant, and stuffed with overconfidence that covers the sky and lands. Not even gods are able to compare to him.

And the author's excuse for that is because he was taught for ten or so years by his village elders who have reached the peak in different paths in the mortal world, he should be capable of trampling and outdoing everyone in the world, including those are far stronger than him, those who have lived hundreds to thousands of years, those who are on a similar level to the elders that taught him, those who the elders that taught him can't even hope to compare to and finally, even the mighty gods of heaven and hell.

No one and no thing is above the MC. They will either be beaten, outdone or outsmarted by the MC with his astonishing 10 years of knowledge and experience.

Even Gods are no exception.

The MC with his 10 or so years of experience, knowledge and relatively weak cultivation, can move unhindered and unfettered in their world. There are only seven accessible realms of cultivation in their world. MC's cultivation is only at the third realm but at my current point of reading, he can easily trample those at the highest seventh realm. Even those who are the peak of and have even partially surpassed that realm, will still suffer a huge loss or be put to death by the MC if they aren't careful. But the thing is they'll never be careful because the author intentionally makes them way too s*upid when around his godly MC, so they always end up tricked and suffering a loss.

With his pathetic cultivation, the MC shouldn't be capable of doing any of this, but through one way or another the MC will find the power to beat those much stronger than him, either outdoing them in one area or another, or tricking them into suffering a loss. It is so bad that an old monster who is over ten thousand years old and had lived several lifetimes, instantly became dumb and a huge joke when placed in front of the 15 year old Jesus MC. Even Gods and Devils that are immensely powerful and have lived for god knows how many years, have been outsmarted by the MC and suffered some losses. The author achieves this by reducing their IQ to 0.0001% when interacting with the MC.

It is as if the MC is the most perfect being in existence and can never be outdone in any area. Be it intellect, ability, or strength. When the MC partakes in challenges that are impossible for him to solve, If he isn't the one who masterminded the solution, then he must have given a chief contribution to the plan or it's success. If it's not that, then he must have been the one who landed the finishing blow. If it still not that, then he must have been the one who discovered the flaws and weakness...

The Author just can't have to MC be inferior or idle for once. The MC must always be the most important one doing the most important things.

In case you forgot, he's just 15 years old!!!

So, if you can endure all that or do not find it to be an issue, then go ahead and read this Novel. As for me, I'm more or less done with it. It is such a shame how the protagonist ends up ruining an otherwise great Novel.

The flame that keeps this story going is the side characters. The MC is arrogant and unbearable. The only thing I found interesting about him is his mysterious ancestry but when that is revealed, there is nothing to the MC again. The MC doesn't even appear to care one bit about that anymore after he sees his father.

[collapse]

In short, the protagonist is just a perfect child who gets everything he wants, thinks everything will always go his way, never suffers any sort of setback or defeat and believes he'll never fail. His sheer arrogance and overconfidence soars above everything and everyone in creation. <<less

Everyone's been very hyped about this novel claiming it's something new. If you have read "The Peerless Proud Twins" by Gu Long and "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" by Jin Yong, you will realise where they got the concept of the Disabled Elderly Villagers from. The "Ten Great Villains" and the "Seven Freaks of Jiangnan". So it's not anything unique except making the Disabled Elderly Villagers more funny and powerful.

The problem with this novel is the author tried to cram Wuxia, Xianxia, Xuanhuan etc. All into one.

The abilities of... more>> lower level characters are already at a level of grandmasters in other novels. The main character fought someone who could manipulate dozen of swords with his vital Qi. You will find it surprising that normal people can survive in this world.

Most people read web novels to take delight in the main character's struggle. Qin Mu doesn't even need to struggle at all with his grandpas and grandma taking all the limelight.

The fight scenes are so long and confusing that you get lost in the waves of sentences. Decent novel but nothing new. <<less

Amazing novel, reminds me of the manga History`s Strongest Disciple. Some reviewers said that he is OP but it only applies if the opponent has the same realm as him. He can still beat stronger enemies through wit and cunning taught to him by his super OP masters :D Love the mystery of his past and the past history of the world, cant wait to find out more about it. I especially love how his grandpas and grandma has their own personality that sometime made me laugh.

The overall story is good. Our MC is OP as well as funny and innocent. The world is very mysterious. Its thrilling and a bit of suspense can be seen. Enemies are mysterious as well as the people in the village who raised him. Let's see how the story goes...
