The Daily Task of Preventing My Disciple from Turning to the Dark Side

Description

As the number one pill alchemist of the immortal world, Mu Chen had always believed that it was because he had single-mindedly focused on concocting pills that led to him to neglect disciplining his disciple. Which in turn, caused his disciple to be led astray by the seduction of devil cultivation, leading to the three realms to fall to disaster.

After his rebirth, Mu Chen resolved to properly teach his disciple, give him the very best resources, earnestly love him, carry him close to his heart, teach him by way of example, and didn’t let him grow corrupt.

Sure enough, his disciple became more and more “intimate”. Every day his disciple even crawled into his bed, rubbing against his chest and clinging to his thigh. It was just that his expression isn’t exactly quite right……

tbh, some of the translation is confusing. And I feel there is so many typos. I feel abit confused but still understandable. And it is so sad there is no papapa scene😭. For the story there is still room to improve. Still so many side character love story not being mentioned. And I wanna see mu chen dad punish gu yun jue (๑•́ ₃ •̀๑)

For the story, I actually rated it 3, 5. Since near the end of the story, I actually intended to give 4 but ... more>>
Spoiler

the ending is weirdly rushed. Feel off.

I gave it 4 stars because I like the MC! MC has his own pace; to be cold toward others he doesn't care. Very badass ready to kill toward people he hate and doesn't care doing it in front of everyone. Being Tsundere toward ML who deserve that.

For me, the ML is tolerable. I don't like or dislike him. He was fun to read. Love when he was affectionate toward MC. Enjoy when he was being Badass which surprisingly not much.

To me the story is all over the place. It's not bad kind but also not exactly good kind. It also left quite few plot holes.

It was fun reading but I suggest you don't read for seriousness or something exciting to read. It's just a fun way to waste time while also get new story to read. <<less

I didn’t think I would be writing a review for this novel without finishing it but I thought I should give my opinion for those looking to start reading it.

This isn’t my first xianxia novel so I’m already familiar with the general world building in these types of novels but I often find myself getting confused by the writing style of the author. It took me 4 chapters to remember what the name of the protagonist is and even now I can’t remember it off the top of my head.... more>> Our main lead (is it the master or is it the student that’s the main lead?) love interest Shizun (because even his name I can’t remember off the top of my head) has two twin (disciples? Dao children? Demonic s*aves he hasn’t signed contracts with?) that have extremely similar names, honestly I don’t know which one is supposed to be the oldest and which is the youngest because although they have different personalities their names often get mixed up in the novel. This isn’t something that happens sparsely either, there are many scenes I have come across in this novel (especially conflict scenes) where there is a sudden shift in perspective and suddenly everyone is talking in 3rd person? Am I just too dumb to figure out the writing in this novel?

Also, another problem I seem to be running into a lot, there are a few moments where the narration builds to something, like a fight or a new character and we get to that event, it’s given about a paragraph or two and then we either suddenly resolve it, ignore it or shift focus to something else. It gets quite tiring to read. Along that same premise, something that really bugs me is that it feels like the world outside our main duo doesn’t exist, almost like the two are the sun and everything revolves around them. No one matters unless they have business with the main pair.

While we’re on the topic of the main pair they’re ok, honestly the only things I’m having trouble swallowing at the moment are moments when the author focuses the readers attention on MC (disciple) body as a child in a weirdly s*xual way, am I the only one that gets uncomfortable with that? For example there are at least three instances where ML (shizun) is described as massaging and touching MC bum, arms, legs etc, as a five year old. It’s played off as something normal but it really makes me uneasy. Beyond that when MC grows up a little (16ish) everyone compares their relationship (because it is a lot of PDA) as an old man grooming his child bride. I mean, isn’t there any better way to describe this or is this the way the author wants us to see the relationship between the two? I don’t know, I think I just have problems with the authors writing style more than I do with the actual characters. That’s all. <<less

This novel is pretty decent but I do have to force myself through the last few chapters cause I got bored with it. Like what many had mentioned, the front is full of decent fluff and it’s not too bad. However, further chapters do make me realize that the story is not getting anywhere. It’s actually a pity cause I feel that this story has an interesting idea and could have been developed well if it was approached differently. Perhaps it is my personal opinion but I do feel that... more>> a novel with almost 97 chapters could have fleshed out the characters and the plot better. Honestly, it is not too bad but I don’t think it would be something that I would reread in the future. (I am not going to talk about the lack of consent at the end cause it has been already mentioned by other reviews + I feel that the tags are sufficient warnings itself)

Summary: shallow and slightly draggy plot + fluff + lack of consent <<less

I really liked the story. It was a nice read. I saw some better ones but this is still very good. I like very much that the MC is not weak. And about the r*pe part I don’t find it so disturbing.

Spoiler

The MC was poisoned and the ML just finished that tribulation which really affected his mind.

I liked this one.

I love this trope - master and disciple or senior/junior brother/sister relationship with one of them hopelessly blackened and plainly villain and the other reborn with intention of "raising him into honest person".

This one was probably the best one I read so far.

Spoilerish things ahead.

Spoiler

The best thing was - even though the bottom was, well, bottom, he still kept his integrity and personality (mostly. The other thing was that he took too many things ML told as truth and... well.). In the end he was on equal footing with top and both of them were temperamental men with their own ideas and opinions.

(Yes. In the end. The journey there was more complicated.)

The top was blackbellied - and all of us loved it this way, not to say otherwise - he was scheming and planned far into the future. He was clever little bugger. Well, he was also inconsistent in the process of story.

In the beginning he was shameless and funny little kiddo.

Then there was part I was uncomfortable with - which is the reason the star was taken off. With the tagging you can guess why it's so. It was the part when ML changed from funny and cute into jealous and way too pushy. He also started to seriously ignore the wellbeing and opinions of his master. That was no no for me but still, I was interested in the plot so I soldiered on.

The last part of the story was the best in the way that ML started respect MC and stopped to be borderline abusing. Finally he didn't take his partner as plaything or pet to keep.

[collapse]

I liked the story because it had very good and solid plot. Interesting twists with most of the loose ends wrapped up.

Overall, I was happy with this one. Not perfect, but still. Better than others in this trope..) <<less

For people who wants some light reading, this novel is for you. Although at the start, it kind of hooked me, but I feel like it's kind of rushed? There are some characters that weren't introduced in full detail and didn't have any closure. Though to be fair, the story mainly focuses on the MC and ML. Still, I hoped there was at least some closure (Yue Mingze & Yu Tianyi, I'm looking at you!). Then again, I feel like this is really just for light reading, so... It's an... more>> okay read! <<less

This deserves a five star for me. ML might be forcing MC but with a basis. MC is oblivious of his feelings towards ML, added for the fact they are master-disciple. MC fell in love with ML before they were reborn. MC just thought that he owed ML, and that

ML had to die because of him.

Great story, great characters and plot. Glad I didn't drop this because of long update. I was dissastisfied of the ending for the side characters, but quite understood for leaving their story as open.

I loved everything about this story except the ending.

It's a cultivation novel. It has all these sects that I adore. Brotherly love. Strong AF characters. No one gets bullied unnecessarily because they can all defend themselves. The ML is clingy and I LOVE IT.

It deserves a 5 star but the ending felt so rushed and I left here unsatisfied.

Way too amusing! Mu Chen is way to adorable, even as a cold person with power to back up his position, since the perspectives change from him to his disciple, you can tell he is such a dear and kind man! Just to see more of our dear uke master, this is super worth it! The translation is good, few errors, nice to read and will make you to never want to stop

I know I've read this before, and got pretty close to the end. But then I lost my bookmark and when I went back to look couldn't even find the chapters. Now that they're being posted again, onto re-reading!

ml's scheming is truly scheming and MC is more just like 'let's do this right this time'

[collapse]

I also liked that
Spoiler

It's pretty early on that Gu Yunjue realizes that Mu Chen also has his memories from the past life. It's nice because then our ML doesn't end up with the spiraling 'but would he still be this good to me if he knew what had happened before?' that some other stories do. It does take a bit longer for our dense MC to realize about Gu Yunjue though

It all started great but in the mid way it lost its glamour. It became very bland with nothing to keep reading going on. All the high expectations turned into fool's dreams in the end. It could have been better than this. This book lacked some seriousness and some common sense.

However, for a light hearted read, this should be a better choice.

The novel is really enjoyable, filled with the right amount of twist and turns to build up the story.

I like how the writer broke the sterotype of misunderstanding between the shizun-disciple troupe. The MC is very sweet and kind heated even though he happen to have a very stone cold face. The ML originally was a bit obsessive however, as the story goes he realises what he is actually feeling in reality. WHICHH is a k a L O V E. Then he confesses and waits for shizun to fall... more>> for him. This is a really sweet story indeed. Even the side chtrs are loveable! Loved it. I love this book. Sometimes I look for ‘fluffy’ novels that people recommend and I can’t make myself like them. Yet this time I really like this one and others seem not to lol. The way I understood the story, by reading carefully and fully enjoying the read, I don’t considered what Gu did ‘rape’ I don’t know if my moral compass is a skewed or what. I know this is fiction, and so based on the characters’ personalities I don’t believe for and instance that Mu Chen would let... more>> himself be r*pe if he didn’t really love Gu and second I don’t think Gu would EVER do anything that can jeopardize his relationship with his Master. He’s been pushing Mu Chens’ bottom line since two lifetimes and he knows when to retreat and when to push. BUT you have to like the story and the characters to understand. I know because I once read a story with the ML leading a tragic life and she was the sweetest ever, no lie, but the MC felt it was okay to hit him and even give him black eyes. Never showing his love. I hated him through out the entire book and never thought anything he did sweet or fluffy. But other people who like the MC couldn’t stop themselves from praising him and the novel as the sweetest ever. <<less

Important Tags for me: rebirth/second chance, master disciple relationship, op protagonists, no serious drama, light hearted, conspiracys, a little short end (I wish for one or two extras),

Main characters:

Shou: tsundere, cold, anti-social, awkward, prideful, bad tempered, easily coaxed by ML, strong, dense MC

Gong: obsessed, protective, good at acting to be innocent, cunning, devoted and sticky to MC, (masochist), a little op, yandere ML,

My Summary of the whole story:

Spoiler

This story has Pov changes between Master and disciple.

Mu Chen had an amazing, stong master that ascended, scince then he lived a lone in Lofty sky sect on his own peak in a palace, he can refine stong pills and make medicin (he is number one pill alchemist in immortal world). At some point he took in a disipl. Later this disciple fell into the devil path and destroyed the 3 realms. The Master was held responsible for his mistakes and tortured. Disciple came to save him but master was already to weak and died, so disciple turned back time, to do save him.

But both went back in time and kept their memories. The Master decided that this time he would do better and properly raise his disciple so he wont fall into the devil path like last time, so they won't experience that disaster again.

Disipl pretended to be innocent and pitifull. He didn't reveal that he had the memorys of their last live (?) /past future until he was of age? (I don't remember). MC spoiled ML (the disciple). He was slowly boiled in warm water, because he was less guarded against his baby/childish disciple that got more intimat day after day.

Later after ML managed to make his master fall for him and make him agree to be with him, his master still stubbornly held onto the master and disciple address. MC became more and more of a tsundere when handling ML. Oh and after ML revealed his memorys of their past, future live/devil cultivation to MC, he became more shameless.

Later they solved the problem of ML's father the devil lord, that wanted one of his sons' bodys as container, because his body neared its end. They also uncovered the conspiracy behind MC's death. MC's family is in the god realm and MC's body contained the very powerful reincarnation pearl, which the natural law, a godly existence wanted.

In the end MC and ML get married repair a pillar that builds a barrier to separate devil realm and immortal realm from one another.

First of all, the chapter numbers are a little confusing but I'm guessing the chapter numbers for the translator's page is just by how many portions were translated, and the novel only actually has 97 chapters.

I honestly cannot tell if this novel is just badly written or maybe the translation to English was a little choppy for my taste, but the ending is very rushed (so this is the author's fault, I guess).

Below is a spoiler for some issues I had:

Spoiler

There are so many loose plot ends, so many things that weren't addressed, especially stuff in the beginning, like the thing about Mu Chen and his master.

I still don't really understand anything about Mu Chen and his past, it's so vaguely written just so we could be given dog food from MC and ML. Mu Chen also seems like he doesn't really develop any solid feelings for ML, imo, it just kinda feels like the author didn't know how to make Mu Chen process his thoughts properly to digest his feelings and instead went with, "He was in love the whole time" route. I know Mu Chen kicking Gu Yunjue is supposed to be humorous because he's the tsundere, but it's sometimes overly repetitive.

I still don't understand what happened to Chen Mo, or Mu Qing, or who the hell Mu Dong is. And in the novel, Mu Chen and Mu Dong and Mu Qing's names kept being switched interchangeably at times, making it hard to understand.

What happened to all the people who loved Mu Chen? Why? And do they even get a happy end? What the hell happened to Black Egg, Golden Egg, etc.?

[collapse]

I know I'm giving it a lot of complaints, despite the fact that I put it to 3 stars. My reasoning is that the beginning was actually very well written, but it feels like the author was rushed to finish or has never had much experience writing a long novel and interest died towards the end.

Did I enjoy reading it? Yes, to some extent.

Did it make sense towards the end? Not really. <<less

I can see that this story is good for it's audience but that doesn't include me. The way that it's written makes it feel like there are two different sides of the story being told at once, which leads to extremely disconcerting moments and distracting side commentary.

This is good and you can honestly binge read this in a day (although I didn't because I dropped this halfway through because LIFE before I picked it up again recently). It's a good story with decent world build-up, dynamics of the characters and progression of the plot. Also you'll find yourself laughing sometimes even if the characters are in such dire situations because Mu Chen's and Gu Yunjue's quip are so witty HAHAHA

The only problem I have with this one is that the ending feels rushed and left a... more>> lot of questions unanswered but over all~ yeaaaaah, it IS good. I'm happy with the ending as long as I ignore that voice inside of my screaming that it is not enough (because well it is enough, I guess, just not enough--- you get what I mean? Yes? No?) <<less
