This novel may be a bit confusing at the start, but if you love a complex fantasy settings with romance, then this is gold. As a fantasy and supernatural genre lover, this novel managed to force me read roughly 4 Volume in one night, ± 6 hours, and the chapters isn't what you call short either. The next day this novel makes me spend the whole day above the bed. The novel pretty much tells you about the struggle of the MC to be together again with his childhood friend,... more>> as a priestess and Sen'nenshi (basically priestess bodyguard) as they dreamed long ago. The premise is actually not that complicated, but the story is far more heavier, and with plot twists here and there, it became really good. The conflict of the two powers, the world-bound feeling between the MC and his childhood friend, and immersive fantasy settings really melts into one, fantastic read. This is Sazane Kei's masterpiece. As the synopsis said, "A girl who is personified by understanding the world and a boy who is rejected by it. A story of two conflicting feelings, and a multi-layered world fantasy"

I hope someone will pick this up again, as this is one of the best, if not the best fantasy novels out there. <<less

A pretty good read if you manage to get through the slow parts in the beginning. It starts of with a lot of slow parts but it gains momentum through the series, you can probably regard the whole first volume as a prolog. The characters shown all get their unique personalities and it's fun watching them interact.

In the world there is a clash between light and dark. The dark have gotten the advantage and rules the surface of the earth while the humans have fled uppwards and now live... more>> on floating islands. Both sides have a distinct magic and can be summed up to dark and light magic, light existing in humans and dark in the monsters constantly invading them.

Our MC is a talented youth that used to be a rising star in the military/monster fighting force but during a mission fell down to the dark world beneath. He came to be the only human to return alive but somehow his light magic energy was replaced by the dark. After he awakens it is dicovered that he can't even touch his childhoodfriend, an (at the time) aprentice priestess, due to a fenomenon that stems from them having opposing energies in their bodies. Due to his new condition he was deemed to be a possible danger to have around the military and was thus expelled and bannished.

Even though it starts off pretty slow I totally recomend it if you have time, though it should be read when you have the time to power through the first one maybe two volumes, at least one and a half, after that it's smooth sailing.
As of now it seems to be totally abandoned... really a shame because they stopped when it seemed so great. <<less

The book is really good and in depth. Definitely reads more like a slower full on book than a light novel, kind of like a good Tor book. The story is amazing and obviously well thought out, and its exceptionally rich.

I won't bother writing an extremely long review, but Ars Nova's review is a pretty good summary. It's maybe one of the best JP novels I've ever read, and I burned through the whole thing in two days.

Now for the reason why I'm writing a review:

However, I Do Hobby's translation... more>> is significantly lower quality than that of the ones before it. CE and Sakura Honyaku both translated with an exceptional amount of skill and the TL @ Sakura Honyaku was considerate enough to continue the traditions from CE. It remains to be seen if I Do Hobby will carry on translating the illustrations and such, but their translator obviously was extremely careless and also didn't check prior translations. Names are inconsistent, words have been translated differently, and the grammar takes a serious hit. It's in no way the worst translation that I ever read, but it's seriously disappointing to see such a dramatic drop in quality from prior translators. I hope that in the future if they continue translating they double check their work and refer to older translations to stay consistent (and also, stop translating proper nouns literally.....) <<less

I don't get why people uttering nonsense about this. If you compare this one to many of isekai novels, you will know which one is the most chuuni. And I'm surprised there is people complaining about unnecessary ecchi here. So far, there are only girls talk & a man 'courting' woman in fight.

Spoiler

Unless you're a kid who are bothered by seeing a girl in nude covered in ice.

[collapse]

Nonetheless, it's a slow pace story. The tension is also built up pretty well. The story is about a boy who struggles keeping his promise with his precious person while defying the world who works against him.
I suggest you to read the prequel if you want to know further about the details of the story. (although you can read it as it is because it's not that important)

As for the characters, they have unique personalities and play significant roles to the story. The author has done well in doing that, so they are not ended up just being mob characters. While the setting of the story is dark, the funny and warm interactions they have break the ice on itself (no pun intended) .

The only thing I want to criticize is:
Spoiler

how the others (aside from his old friends) don't remember him, despite him being famous for his excellent ability, after only disappearing for 3 years.

The current translator has continued the work. Kiddos to them!
I just hope they remain on continuing this despite them being whimsical. <<less

The opening half of the first volume is the cringiest, chuuni writing I have ever read. It's like a 13 year old wrote a novel after binging shonen animes. After that, it becomes less painful to read. However, it's still pretty chuuni.

Also, ecchi moments for no reason, just as if it was written by a 13 year old.

Good foundation for an action adventure style story.... kinda devolves into romance/harem idiocy, but it never quite goes full ret*rd.
The world is pretty much destroyed, there is seemingly an insanely small number of humans left. A floating castle in the sky is maintained by one super powered woman who needs helpers/defenders. - This semi works, but it makes the world feel too small.
The combat/powers are both dbz ish as well as chrono triggerish. Aura stuff can boost weapons, they got robots and stuff. Main character has a special... more>> corrupted power that essentially gives him true damage, but zero armor. - Works pretty darn well imo.
Characters feel different and unique. Has sh*t harem mechanics though, if its female it's destined to be overly close to the MC. Enemy monsters work and semi make sense. Villains and the big bad org is ret*rded beyond belief. - Acceptable, leaning towards bad?

Kinda wanted to give it a 4, but it is closer to a 3 due to it's harem idiocy and world building post the first volume. Volume 1 is definitely better and deserves a 4 I guess? Rest of the story is hampered by the small world and harem mechanics taking priority over plot. I do feel like this particular style of story has been done dozens/hundreds of times, and this one is a darn good version of it though. <<less
