Dear readers, if you plan to start this novel, hear me out. Just open 140. Chapter and dont forget that every chapter of this novel is like 140. Chapter. If you dont convinced, I prepared a long review.

just s*upid, one dimensional characters, every bad guy the same, underestimate MC ridicule him which is king and then get face slapped, MC kills him then another bad guy arrives, same lines, same attitute as if every millions of bad guys in this novel is actually same guy! OMG my great theory just... more>> formed! Its make sense now! If every bad guy were the same guy then it makes sense a farmer which is from another country being rude to an king and this farmer's king being rude at same level with his farmer because they were the same guy from the start! LOL!

This logic is s*upid because if a pleasant ridicule another king, try to abuse his fiancee, in king's own country, own backyard, because the kingdom is tier 6, it means this logic is s*upid and how come author didnt tried to correct this sh*t for millions of chapters? Aristocracy isnt something like this, if a pleasant start to ridicule nobles in front of tthem with pride and this pleasant's king doesn't act, how this builded world can maintain? Then there should be democracy or some socialism. If in a world where every part of it ruled by nobles but not a single soul respect nobles how this sh*t continue? <<less

Well, it starts out strong, and I'd say stays good till around 300, then becomes mediocre till 900 or so, before deteriorating into bad with the odd highlight here and there. Oh and there's a manga, it's complete and utter shit, God I wish I never even discovered it, it brutalized the few good things in this novel oh god I wish I could scrub my brain clean after seeing that pile of published excrement.

Spoiler

Anyways I'd stop after he becomes sun class, it gets pretty boring after that, with ten good chapters per 100 or so, so if you have good patience you could stick it out. I tried.

3 stars is being real generous here. I am only giving it this because it's a double isekai and has game elements and world building which are the drugs I'm getting high on. A lot of the things are s*upid in here. I liked the idea of the massive continent which reminded me of the forbidden continent on HxH but they never really did anything with it. Also one of the things that I have come to expect more is a well balanced power system. HxH is no doubt my... more>> highest regarded but Versatile mage has also one of my fave power systems and this novel trying to mash game system with a preexisting system makes it way too confusing and convoluted <<less

I would give it 5 stars if not for the naming. The naming ruins all of it.

Pretty much everything important and/or influential would have football related names, whether that is people or places or states. It kills the whole vibe of the story.

If not for that, I'd rate this 6 stars out of five.

Set in the world of Diablo, featuring people and places named Hilton-Paris and Manchester, who was it that said the Chinese lack creativity? This novel pretty much proves that notion. Dropped at 118- the Paris Hilton character was the last straw for me. Imagine reading a fantasy, then every time this character talks, you can just see Paris Hilton's smugly pretentious mutilated face.

It's an okay read in my opinion.

The story is unique and different enough to be interesting. I suppose there will be those that doesn't like that his unique powers comes from him traveling to the world of Blizzards Diablo. I don't really mind that since I've always loved Diablo, and I find it interesting to have the protagonist interact with characters from the game, but I can see how some people find that kind of cheap.

Now there's a couple of things that I really dislike, which makes this review a... more>> 3 rather than a 4 or a 5.

First, some times the protagonist makes decisions that really doesn't make sense at all, and the antagonists react in a way that isn't very realistic, rather they react in a way that's just built to fit the protagonist, while they could and should easily wreck the protagonists plans. The plot armor is fairly strong and obvious in this one.

Second, this novel has been tagged for both comedy and parody. While the protagonist can be kind of amusing at times, it's hardly enough to be tagged as comedy. The reason it's tagged as such is probably because almost all characters and empires are named after famous soccer players, teams and stadiums. Maybe some characters are named referencing something else, but to me these soccer related names are the most prominent. Rather than being fun it just feels really out of place and immersion breaking when names like "Chelsea Empire", "Didier Drogba", "Fernando Torres", "Paris Hilton" etc shows up. I just feels like the author doesn't have any clues of western names for his novel that's set in a western world, so he just googled names of famous western stars. Maybe he did it because he found it fun to put famous names in a fantasy world (not that the characters have anything to do with the real people other that their names), but to me it just feels so immersion breaking.

Third, everything comes down to fighting. And I mean next to EVERYTHING. Some people like a lot of action in their novels. If you just like action, you will like this one, but it really is too much fighting for me.

Let me give you an example.

Protagonist's got to travel from destination 'x' to destination 'y' with some of his soldiers. On the road to 'y' there will be a couple of stops, a fort 'z' and a city 'u'. On the road from 'x' to 'z', there will be a fight with some enemies of the kingdom. When he gets to 'z' he will find a reason to fight the fort. On the road from 'z' to 'u' he will conveniently bump into some mercenaries that's done something bad to his people. Time to fight! Further up to road to 'u' there's someone that want to arrest him for the killing in fort 'z'. Time to fight! Finally reach city 'u'. Hmm, he's spent at least one day without fighting someone now... Let's throw the city garrison at him! Time to fight!

Finally reach destination 'y'. The first thing that happens? That's right receive a duel challenge for the next day. Well at least he isn't fighting anyone this day right? No, wrong! Let's go to an inn and fight off assassins! After the duel the next day, let's have him fight a couple of the other guys friends as well! Hmm, that's not enough, let's make sure that an assassin try to kill him when he leaves the dueling area.

You get my point? At least I think that it would be nice if he sometimes could solve things without fighting. There are some mysteries and exploration involved but as soon as he interact with someone other than his own people you can be 90% sure that it'll end up in a fight.

Fourth, the antagonists are really bland. As far as I've got (ch275) almost all his enemies have been kings and princes that have the same arrogant personality and want to bully him because they either think he's weak, or because of jealousy. The author also for some reason have to make sure that all the enemies knows that he's got a really hot fiance. In almost all, if not all, PoVs from the enemies that we get to read, they have to mention how they're going to take her once they've defeated the protagonist. It doesn't even matter if the enemy had any prior knowledge of her or not, if he doesn't, one of his subordinates will be sure to point it out to him. Even the one female antagonist that has shown up so far, told him how she would have a beggar r*pe her and sell her to a brothel the first time he met her. So basically all the antagonists are arrogant, h**ny royalty that wants to steal his wife. Hopefully some more interesting antagonists will show up later.

TL;DR

It's interesting enough to keep me reading, but the plot armor, the immersion breaking names and the boring antagonists makes me sigh out loud some times, and I skim through a lot of the action because there's just too much of it! <<less

This novel is okay. There are minor positives, but major negatives, like almost all other web novels. But we all know that and are just finding novels that fit to our "taste".

If you like Diablo 2, a little bit of kingdom management, MC developing talents and some harem/romance then you can try reading this novel.

But it's ironic that some of the minor positives correspond to the negatives.
    • Diablo 2
I got into this novel mainly because Diablo 2 is one of my all time favourite game. But the disappointment I had once I continued reading was quite immense. If you're an avid fan of D2, keep your expectations for it at a low level. The D2 backdrop works in a way where the MC could "level up" by playing a realistic game of D2, so naturally he has to go through all 5 acts with the playable classes. I noticed a problem during Act 1, the author gives interesting expositions to the lore of the Diablo world, but MANY things were untouched. Special monsters, items, equipments, bosses and more. I had my concerns about future Acts since the more the MC ventures through D2, the more things the author leaves out. And my concerns proved to be correct. Once Act 2 hits, almost every single thing is glossed out.

It actually feels more like a run through of dungeons to dungeons, with the charm of the D2 backdrop disappearing.

The lore completely disappears. Special monsters are almost completely non-existent. Items and equipment are not even mentioned other than the top tier set items used by different classes. "Bosses" are introduced with zero expositions, and destroyed in less than 1 page.

Did the author play the same game? Or did he play a pirated knock-off Chinese version of "Diablo 2"?

I'll also mention the fact that MC only uses Barbarian mode 90% of the time throughout the novel. Paladin to heal and show off. Assassin to create traps and create cultivation methods. Druid for some recon hawks and wolves. Amazon to only shoot some arrows and throw javelins. Necromancer died of old age somewhere on the street curb and what the f*ck is Sorceress??

I'll say it again, keep your expectations for D2 in check.

Treat it as an extra to the novel, and you'll be fine.
    • Character development/Romance & harem
I'm not surprised at this. In fact anybody shouldn't. If you've read web novels for 6 months, you will know that the majority of it has this problem. Introduced characters are forgotten, not much development, even developed characters are dropped. Standard stuff. It's like the law of nature. Pigs can't fly. Authors can't write.

I have no problem for Romance/Harem in novels. But I have a problem with it if the author messes up stories with it. Fortunately, this novel doesn't have this problem. It's actually done decently with specific characters.

But I have a nitpick regarding this, which is one of my pet peeves.

Dropped potential love interests.

CN novels likes to do this. They introduce some potential love interests, maybe develop it for a bit, but after 200 chapters the author either forgets about it or have no idea how to write it into the story, so ignores it on purpose. What is the point in even developing characters in the beginning towards a specific direction if you're not going to bother with it anyway? It's a bait tactic used by authors.

With that said, everything else is okay, nothing that you wouldn't expect. Cookie cutter CN novel. Standard stuff. But fast food still tastes good, so if you enjoy action/kingdom management/army fights/romance & harem/chosen one MC/bodies blown into blood mist/killing of nobles and MC thinking that he actually figured it out but still somehow could not figure it out, and you are okay with the negatives then this novel is above average at best.

7.5/10

It becomes annoying to read, and from others' reviews, I can determine that the elements in the story, won't be faithful to its consistency at the continued progression of the story.

Breaking point:

Spoiler

The mature beauty named Paris was really hated by MC. Paris came to his city, and forced the MC's lover to "kill" herself by biting her tongue. She was given a HP potion later. The MC also called her grandma or something negative about her age (many times).

Later at chapter 220, the MC meets Paris again. The MC start calling her a beauty. But the breaking point was the line:

"Then if my life is at risk, will you come to save me?"

"Yes." Fei's answer was very simple.

"Oh? Why?"

"Because you are a beauty. I am the type of person that doesn't like to see beautiful things get ruined by some idiots in front of my eyes. I don't like tragedies." Fei seemed to be full, he wiped his mouth and drank the last bit of wine.

What annoyed me:

Spoiler

Even his subject Lampard started to change from a quiet man, to man that likes to swear at his enemies. I can even point out that Lampard swears in the same way as his comrades, the MC, and his enemies. They always want to fu*k.

Taking a quick look at the 1 to 3-star reviews you'd notice a trend of hatred that comes almost exclusively from Diablo players, but as a person who has never played the game, I was impressed with this novel. Decent character building, timely foreshadows, and it was enjoyable for more than 300 chapters. Take it or leave it type of novel, that's what you're reading here.

To be honest, I'm quite amazed at the horde of people that reviewed this, played diablo 2, and weren't utterly annoyed by the shitty builds of the MC. And the novel even tryhards so much to tell me how 'experienced the MC was in d2'but the author has no clues whatsoever how to make builds.

Spoiler

Somehow the MC manages to get to lvl40 without using almost no attack skills or buff battlecries. He lvl up bash or double swing once, and used at most twice?

This probably was due to the blandness that most skills had in d2, since they are not flashy.

[collapse]

While using d2 as a theme for a novel can be off-putting to some, if it's well done, it can develop into some interesting quirks. This novel actually did a decent/good job at the start, but quickly went downhill. The biggest problem being that the skilltree in d2 does not allow for a good plot development on the long run, since the game has a finite number of skills to play. So to counter the staleness, instead of expanding interactions inside the world of Diablo with already proposed mechanics (ex.: changing classes mid fight to some neat combos; dual classing, free reset for skills for build diversity as to allow a better interaction between the real world and d2 skills, etc), the author went to the full xianxia route, where the MC has the generic xianxia skills.

All this ends with a bad aftertaste for both types of readers. People that enjoyed the diablo 2 phase, and the sloppy xianxia elements. I won't even tell about Saint Seiya fanservice, that was just dumb.

Character development was also something that went downhill fast. It transformed fleshed characters into xianxia stereotypes in like 40 chapters.

I think this author wanted to prove that reading chinese novels are a waste of time most of the times, since they have a expire date, where eveything that had any uniqueness devolves into a generic novel. <<less

There's a lot of exaggeration and overreaction to things

e.g. The king said "good job" and servant started tearing up. He immediately swore he would serve this king for the rest of his life and devote his very being to it.

Also

The King slapped him. It was like a thunderous call from god which shocked the kingdom. " He's a madog!" "He's asking for death!". There was both shock, fear and a little respect from his enemies. However all his citizens viewed him as a God of war and all started chanting... more>> "hail the king !" In unison.

I made that sh*t up but it's pretty similar to how the world behaves so get used to it <<less

Ok so this is gonna be my first review so please be kind on me.I find this novel to be quite good to be honest but some things didn't sit so well with me so lets start.

(Props to the TL and ED they both have a 5/5 from me)

  • The story starts quite good but goes downhill really fast. Somehow it manages to fall into every kind of xianxia cliche down the road, its not that I don't like xianxia type of novels on the contrary most of the novels that I read are in fact Chinese.
  • Side characters aren't that memorable because the author didn't flesh them out properly.
  • Villains with the intelligence of a monkey at best.
  • The novel becomes very repetitive: Introduce "problem"->Grind->Resolve said "problem"
All in all the... more>> first 80 or so chapters are quite good, if you don't have anything better to read give it a go. <<less

Pros:

This is a different Kingdom building story from the usually, the usually the King is bullshited over and over and can't do a sh*t about it. And in this Hail the King the story is different, who ever try to mess up with this king will suffer the consequeses, the trully meaning of being a KING ! Respect ! Until now, this is my fav novel, MC has an overpower cheat, but necessary, cuz it fill the lake of power in his kingdom and others enemy's is too powerfull, so... more>> you could consider his overpower cheat an necessary evil. Cons:

Could have more romance involving the King and Princess. And sometimes I fell like the focking arrow girl is conquering Alexandre's King hearth.

The "real word" and kingdom part is pretty interesting, but the problem is the game part... I ve dropped the novel at chap 40 and 50-60% of it is in the diablo word. It just feels like the author played diablo a bunch of hours, then wrote what he did in the novel. At least when others authors try to fill they have the decency to make up some new names of character and some new area. If I want to know what a quest on diablo is, I can... more>> play on the real deal, thanx a lot.

I really love this novel, the story is a bit on the slow side, with many ocurrences, trials, problems standing infront of the mc's way, which sometimes made me curious how he would handle it and in other times it was, well unnecessary.

I loved reading the story, until I arrived at chapter 907, it wasn't the plot, characters, sudden developents, the only problem was that the author would put some references from other animes, which, not only irritated me, but others too. The names, the power, it had all of... more>> a sudden changed, destroying the "world building", or the common sense in which the world worked.

Personally, I really wanted to read it to the end, but just reading it further, even if the plot is still interessting, annoys me. Well, that's the summary from me.

I would recommend it! <<less

Dear Potential Readers: This is worth trying.

- I liked this novel a lot. I've seen the hate in the reviews. Understandably, the last 200 chapters are very rough compared to the first 1000, but it is definitely worth reading. Don't trust the bs hate. Give it a try yourself.

Action: 10/10

The action in this novel is good. Its one of the few novels where I can clearly see the fight going through my mind, and this is especially evident in the later chapters. The first 300 chapters are good, chapters 300-1000... more>> are good, and chapters 1000-end is more rough. However, this novel was great because the fights weren't just random, but they were all connected to the plot. I personally love political dramas and this just combined political drama (regarding the infrastructure of the kingdom he is a part of) with good action.

Romance: 8/10

I personally am not a romance fan, so take this with a grain of salt. He has two wives, but this is far from a harem. I don't like reading harems or romance, so I was glad that I could enjoy the fact that a LOT of his subordinates and other important characters are male, not all female. I liked the female leads.

Drama: 8.5/10

My favorite aspect of this novel is the drama, always wondering what is going on, what is next, etc. He is a king and a lot of the drama is from within the kingdom and the empire at the start until he starts to broaden his horizon (when he becomes strong) but it's amazing.

Power Structure: 8/10

Somehow, this novel has very little power creep, and the power structure makes a lot of sense. It's not like when he gets OP there are magically 100 other people at his OP level and you are like "where the hell did they come from? Nobody mentioned them in the first 700 chapters?!!?" It makes sense. You can visualize how the power structure works after reading.

Overall, it is worth reading. It isn't fully a Kingdom Building (like Release that Witch) as it is a lot more action, but he is a king and has his duties. I like the fact that 100 chapters aren't spent on Kingdom Building and policies and that crap, but instead, he introduces policies quickly, effectively, and moves on to the drama/action.

This novel is now all about the MC hiding his strength and face slapping nobles and young master, over and over... Furthermore the OPness of the MC and the people from his kingdom is way too sudden, with full of plots holes. The quality of the novel is becoming worse and worse, it has a feeling of PMG...

Don't mind the negative comments. All of those who's saying they enjoyed at the start then it went down blah blah blah..

This is a good novel and I read a lot of wuxia/xanxia novel. What I like the most is the MC helps his friends become strong too. His generals have their own life stories and they all fought along side their king (mc) . And it's comedy too

Spoiler.
