It's a pretty shit.

It's one of the worst but most popular isekai series. I do understand why though, I mean it has everything a basic isekai would have doesn't it?

The s*ave harem, op MC, people being surprised at power every fight, victim harem collecting and shit.

I honestly recommend reading the manga since I highly doubt anyone is reading this for the action either ways

Firstly I just wanna say that I won’t review how the story is presented and written and instead write about the characters, mainly MC. First I love that the MC isn’t those stereotypical MC where he puts ‘justice’ above everything else. Instead he enjoys his reincarnation with his friends and loved ones while helping those that he can along the way just because he’s op. However, that’s about it. Don’t get me wrong, I really like the novel since its a carefree kind where you don’t have to panic if... more>> the MC encounters trouble. Perfect for a break from reading novels with intense plot with twists and turns.

The things I hate however is the fact that he’s a p**sy. He acts like he doesn’t want prestige and pedigree yet still tries to answer the nobles to the best of his abilities. Like ffs man, you’re not normal and even you know that, there’s no point for you to suck up to the nobles since you can’t be controlled anyways. Just f*cking be a nice guy that helps people but not affiliated with a country ffs. Next is his pu*sy ass indecisiveness and hypocrisy. Like its fine if you don’t wanna do anything to your girls but the fact that you suck up to nobles makes the noble girls think that you want them ffs. Case and point lady Karina. You keep giving her lip service making her think that she has a shot when we all know that she doesn’t. Like don’t get me wrong, I hate her annoying ass. I think she’s and entitled bit*h who should just f*ck right off. Of course that’s if he doesn’t want her as his wife. If he did intent on making her one of his harem wives than I don’t care. The thing is though, he keeps playing with her heart and even flat out refuse her when she proposed.

Then his hypocrisy, he distance himself from Arisa telling her to come back in 10 years if she still likes him. His excuse? She’s too young. That’s fine if only he wasn’t 15 years old in physical age. Like bruh, you turn down Arisa cause despite her mental age likely being older than you, her physical age is only 10. BRO, your mental age is probably younger than her and your only slightly older than physical wise. If he was reincarnated as his age which is 29 if i’m not mistaken, then ok, I get you. But the worst part is, Arisa probably loves him more than anyone else. Yet you’re somehow ok with someone who is thousands/millions of years old. Compated to her, you’re not even arisa’s age, you’re a f*cking infant.

Honestly, I don’t mind that he has tons of girls, in fact its quite amusing and chill to see. If only he was less indecisive. <<less

"Deatch March" is a story about the most overpowered guy ever. Superman and Lord Ainz (Overlord) are small bugs comparing to Satou. Main character is accompanied by very overcrowded harem composed of two circles of initiation. We have few genres mixed in: mainly fantasy, science-fiction and RPG.

Author looks to be a big fan of OTAKU culture and western-like movies. So the one tried to copy a lot of romantic and non-romantic events in one story. The effect is average as writer sometimes did not have a time or good ideas... more>> to provide story based on these events with his own reason.

WN main plot which is searching demons attacks mastermind is slow but quite interesting and surprising. Additionally "Death march" is interesting thanks to many overlapping subplots. But its quality is uneven. At the begining it is much better and more detailed then anime/manga based on LN. It is thanks to higher difficulty. In more or less half volumes Satou is not omnipotent and invincible. He makes mistakes during fights and another activities. Some background characters die.

We learn about Satou gaining skills, knowledge and items. Authors describes part of crafting processes and business creation process. You can find great description of battles and other events that make you impossible to stop to read a story.

But with time there are more and more places where WN looks like simple blueprint or just an event record of future LN. Almost every meal is described with repetitive details but battles and parts of main and secondary plots are shortened or rather cut. It looks like: "good gay fights with evil one and..... they lived happily ever after". There are sentences like "I dealt with them" or "I help them" as the most description of a fight. It is the same in a case of other events.

There are really too many secondary and tertiary characters. Author appeared to be unable to handle them as some subplots has withered or they was ongoing somewhere in a not described background. I think that to describe adventures of everyone there should be ten times more text.

Satou loves only one women but story is created with a way that main romantic subplot justifies and enforces harem on him. Except of his beloved one Satou see women in 2 categories: good for s*x (in practice: prostit**es) /not good for s*x. Author could not decide if main character is dense idiot or not, So sometimes Satou notices that he attracts another gender and sometimes he is more then s*upid. In general his relations with harem are unrealistic, artificial and strange.

Translation is a bit above average.

I like "Death March" in general. Just be warned that from time to time you may be disappointed of some s*upid statements or underdeveloped events.

Edit: ranking modified after comparing to another novels <<less

At first, I could rate this series 5/5 but as the story goes my interest of the series get lower and lower because the hyprocitical MC especially since he create Kuro.

I understand the reason why lot of people call the MC hypocrite.

1. He doesn't want to stand out, yet when he created Kuro, he build a very famous firm and also saying if his popularity as Kuro get troublesome he will kill Kuro. It means he really does want to stand out but doesn't want to handle repercussion of his... more>> popularity.

2. He reject all the girls that make a move to him, while thinking in his heart the reason he reject them because he only love one person and later in the night he goes straight to brothel it makes the reason the person he love exist just a convinient tool to block other girls, I think it's better if he saying the reason he reject the girl because he doesn't want to enter a relationship yet.

Actually this series have potential to be my favorite series, this series has a likeable cast of characters (except the MC) and cool different POV story. Just make a more likeable MC and give people outside of the MC group at least a shred of intelligence then probably I will give the series 5 stars. <<less

Death March starts out like your typical isekai (but with an overtly morally decent MC) but becomes almost like a treatise on the isekai genre and tropes.

When you get down to it, it's basically "what would YOU do if you were in an isekai with cheat powers?" If you really apply your imagination to it, treating basic magic like a programming language breaks all the rules. And those who don't like the fact that the MC isn't an vigilante who is out for revenge would probably hate this novel since... more>> the MC definitely does not want revenge. Instead, he wants a slice of life type experience despite the shounen flags and tropes thrown at him.

The novel starts out typical isekai, the MC then becomes fantasy One Punch Man, then the MC approaches All Star Superman status. In between, there's great bouts of food p*rn and loot whoring and min maxing.

The novel is a good read, it's nothing fantastic but there's nothing horrible or cringe-worthy either. It helps that the viewpoint is very optimistic, the MC seems to be immune to edgelord flags thrown him and is well aware when he lets his chuuni flag fly. <<less

As much as I abhor harem novels, Death March is great. The harem gag bits do get old but the humour that comes from Satou and company hiding in plain sight doesn't. And that humour complements the whodunnit/procedural plot very well. For a slice-of-life comedy that doesn't take itself seriously, the plot is pretty engaging due to the mystery novel-like twists and revelations within each arc.

As someone who has read till the latest translated WN version I can tell you that this novel is fun.

Fun as in it's nice to read to pass my spare time with some snacks.

This novel definitely is not a serious series. If you want to get a serious series then don't read this, you will be looked down as a fool if you still dare to read it.

As summary this novel is about a progammer that somehow get teleported to the other world but without guidance either from local god... more>> etc. And then he thinks that it will be fun if he travels across the world, I mean it's another world and he has high level due to PLOT ARMOR, and there're not gods nor people who tell him to be a hero or something else.

Therefore this's a comedy and heart warming (his daily lives with his harem at least for me) story about an OP (High level and many manmade sacred artefact) and Godlike (especially his cooking skill) Tourist that want to travel around the world in another world with his own harem elite troop that has a side job/part-time job as a hero. <<less

It is really really excellent. At least for people who enjoy OP protag and slice of life.

I mean, it isn't vulgar and really heartwarming. I think it should be a tag for this serie. I really really like it and it is good that I don't feel like the author is satisfying himself. I mean, he must be with so much cuteness and all, but it isn't aggressive like some other. (Especially the ero novel for extreme example)

Really, the story is more focused on the heartwarming part and I... more>> really really like that. <<less

This WN may be good to most people but bad to some people depending on personal preference. I've listed some of the main points to put into consideration when thinking of whether to continue reading this WN or not

- A good other world slice of life
- MC is OP but doesn't show the full extent of it to his friends/lolis
- MC is a walking loli magnet
- Good character development for most main characters
- A lot of travelling and food hunt
- There's an actual plot but... more>> not much of it is seen yet
- Romance is mostly a one sided approach from his countless of loli followers
- He does something that blows your common sense into the next galaxy every now and then <<less

Okay, this one is sure one of the popular Isekai japanese series around here in NU.

With overpowered MC but no skill at the beginning, and his cheat actually is not the power, but his ability to learn skills easily. Harem is a plus since MC is devoted to one girl (brothel doesn't count, since no love here).

For some chapters at the beginning, maybe the story will be a bit cliche and MC is a bit idiot, but just like anyone who just start playing MMO, he/she will assign any skill... more>> that looks important as soon as they learn it, without thinking the future, and MC portrayed this.

Well, to be fair, nothing is perfect, and there will be boring or "what the hell" moment, but I strongly recommend this if you haven't read it, and stop using your common sense when reading it (i strongly advice, because there are already victims). <<less

I love this web novel, in fact I’ve found it more enjoyable than the light novels just due to the fact that one can get even more details about the world of Death March. I have read it multiple times. The characters are super cute. In our world in where life isn’t fair I’m happy to read about Satou and friend and their justice.

Im a huge Aihana Hiro fan. Well done sir! I can see that you are a man of culture and I hope to read more stories from... more>> you in the future.

I’ve purchased the anime digital copy, the light novels and the digital light novels. I really really hope they re-release the anime Blu-ray with English subtitles. <<less

I'm here to say some things:

People say that MC is this and that, but then forget to read tags before they read, this is a Comedy Slice of Life Isekai with a Carefree Protagonist, while it does have some Action and is Shounen, those ain't the main focus.

Then MC way of thinking/doing things is questioned, well he is a Japanese man, where he lived a peaceful life for almost 30 years, and also a game designer, so he doesn't like to fight, wars, isn't good with gore and also doesn't... more>> like bothersome things (heck even I don't like) but like to do things in the right way (me too like to be lawful in games and dislike robbing or mu*dering innocents) also in one of his Satou's Here, he says that being a Game Designer he likes to respect the "Scenario" and the "Quests" he recieve as long it doesn't hurt his girls.

And lastly people complain about the way the author write the novel...., first look at the year this first started.... 2013, 8 years ago, at that time didn't have cliches or the "same thing again", dozen of isekais started almost at the same time, Tsuki, No Game No Life, Arifurieta, Slime, Smartphone and etc..., and I highly doubt that the authors will change the novel that they worked for so long, just because it became cliche, that's why WN exists, if you want something polished, go read LN that usually comes later.

Finishing here, Death March (WN) isn't the best novel, it does have it's low and slow points, but also have his high and cool moments, and is worth your month to keep reading, specially if you doesn't like: Guro, Tragedy, fights every chapter, characters dying, Protagonists that only think with the lower head.

And likes things like: Slow paced history, peaceful history, OP protagonists that doesn't like to boast his power to everyone, random cooking chapters, beastkin girls, lolis (I still wonder is he was cursed by god to be surrounded by), also game elements and harem (while he "tries" to evict this, I sure he can't escape XD) <<less

I guess I should preface this with "I didn't want to write this review". If you're here for the "harem" or "R-15" tags, read the spoiler and don't waste your time like me.

I have to say, it's a huge letdown. The worldbuilding and characters are well-thought-out. There's some cheese and cringe, but it's light-hearted overall. I was having so much fun, but the ending gave me more whiplash than Shield Hero. It's that bad. Like everything I read up until the last arc was a lie. I've read about blatant... more>> wish-fulfillment, self-insert protagonists and spineless characters galore. NEVER have I been so dissatisfied by a novel's conclusion.

Spoiler

It's a "harem" novel that ends with a mass wedding that's played off as a joke/gag scene; basically every female character that's interacted with the male lead is there (even ones he didn't show interest in). There are no scenes of the protagonist accepting ANY of the female leads' affection. Not even the forced "main female lead" gets a spotlight scene. The characters built up for 600+ chapters? Who cares? Here's a callback scene referencing the original story that's no longer relevant. The end.

This is a good read for those lookig for a not too serious story and just want to pass time and relax.

Don't mind the reivews just get into it and decide for yourself.

now for my review.

-

Regardless of what other people say this series is quite good if you are looking for a slow-paced slice of life adventure. -

People who are commenting about how boring the plot is how sickeningly Op the MC is and how some things don't make sense, well those people were looking for something else and got disappointed and lashed out in frustration.

-

The MC is OP for a reason and you can realize it by reading and analyzing the entire plot, readers these days have no sense of analysis and want every single little detail to be spoonfed to them. In the first place the main point of this story is the MC travelling around the world to sightsee, eat delicious food, train his companions to be able to stand up for themselves and have a jolly good time in the process. This is not a novel for those looking for hardcore action, intense plots, mystery etc. This type of novel are for those who are looking for a decent relaxing read.

-

I've read some reviews about him not advancing in any of the female im the story. Duh. The MC is a 29 year old man transported in another world in his 15yr old body, people must've thought he'll revert his mentality when he got transported in his younger body. Well he doesn't have to and will never have the reason to do so unlike some of those commonplace jap MC who is supposedly old but when he got transported got mentally regressed. MC is a Mature japanese man who knows right from wrong, he avoids relationships with the girls not mainly cuz he's dense or indecisive but because the girls are underage (mainly ages 12-17) he even told one of his female companions ti wait for a few years until they reach 18, anyone in their right mind would do the same as Satou did (unless you are a pe*vert or some predator or somethin. Oh and by the way the MC is into older women (although he gets ignored mist of the time, surprisingly he states that he is always popular with younger women, which clearly shows). The MC is not dense in any way

Spoiler

this happened after he confessed Aialize, I remember it being in the Royal Capital when he and Karina (his boss's daughter) have a stroll, he sensed the subtle changes and behaviour and rejected her in an indirect way

[collapse]

-

Another thing i've noticed is ppl complaining about the lack of plot. Well reading the earlier chapters this claim does have its points, but that doesn't give it the justification to rate poorly if you've only read less than 50chapters (this applies in reading any work) In the first place this a slow paced read meant for relaxation. The real deal only starts at vol 15 or so and thats when everything from the past chapters sink into (if you read it very closely)

Spoiler

a lot of things such as why he ended up in the Dragon Valley in the first place (it was very nonesensical at first and it'll certainly leave a bad impression for sensitive readers). The level system, the history and lore, his dreams about little girls with different hair colors, the girl in the painting, the Demon God, etc etc. All of these are revealed in the later parts of the story, and a lot of the clues are in those 'nonsense' stories

[collapse]

-

the story is just basically them travelling and eating the cuisines and purchasing stuff from that place, beating up some thugs, cultists and sometimes demon lords and then going back to sightseeing, I really love that aspect of this novel where I can just relax and have a good time (i've read this entire series a good 4 times now). I've read the LN and its basically an upgrade and patch to thr old one still manage to retain its essence whilst adding in more content, explanations, suspense, and even character! Im still waiting for the next one (LN14) and im pretty much excited to read more of its upcominh content

  • The worst part of it is not just that the main character is a superficial trope and has no personality, but that although the story is mainly told through his perspective, there's no meaning or credibility to it as its inconsistent and superficial, he acts as a puppet of the writer so that stuff happens and that's it, there is no growth, no logic, no character, no emotions...
  • so much of the story is just encyclopedia reading, where the writer just lists recipes one after the other, if you do read it do yourself a favor and just skip over it
I'd say that this is the web novel equivalent of grind in games, there is 0.01% content that has value and the rest is just filler. Interesting enough some of the... more>> best parts of it can be the intermissions where there's some attempt at world building or characterization, but even then, most of the intermissions are just filler, just pizza this, cola that. <<less

ahh... a nostalgic tr*sh novel, it was a long time ago when batoto manga website were still around. Before the novel, the manga adaptation was introduced to me on a certain point of time. As I read it, I was quite interested out of curiosity what the story all about. Yet, it is full of suprises:

the prologue was fresh and suddenly MC was stranded in a wasteland which followed by some random army of NPC shouting like " Kill him" or "kill this guy because he is dangerous" as such.... more>> Out of nowhere, the MC just push some random button skill and "boom" meteor fall unleashed!. Enemy? dead. Okay....

enter to the society of the other worlder's : oh if MC going to enter the population, he can use his op power as advantage right ? oh nope, he going to hide his skills but if its demonstration surely it will be eye catching.. right? what a dumbass MC.

oh right regarding the heroine? yeah MC is such absolute poop. that even the s*ave girl that fall in love to him. he just like " I am sorry.... blah blah blah" and make empty excuses while the s*ave girl have contributed far beyond other member in battle, risking her life to safe others on brink of danger. yet she was given this kind of treatment in the story by the author since the author chose the ret*rded non contributed heroine to be the main with the MC. oh well, nothing to be expected since then this novel become the tr*sh level to be dropped. <<less

"Death March kara Hajimaru Isekai Kyusoukyoku"? More like "Busybody kara Hajimaru Isekai Kyusoukyoku". Where do I even begin with this? I don't want to make this a long review, so I'll just cut it short. All in all, the story is pretty entertaining, and the characters (mostly the MC's companions) are somewhat interesting as well. The "cheat" that the MC has is what it is (a cheat), but that's what most isekai elements anyway. I would've given this novel a 4 or a 5 if that was all there was... more>> to the novel.

HOWEVER, as mentioned with many of the reviewers here, the novel is extremely frustrating to read. The MC is extremely hypocritical, where he would spout a whole bunch of b.s. And go out of the way to spare the lives of most of his enemies. He'd save a completely unaffiliated Kingdom while some of said Kingdom's people would criticize or look down on him (let it be mentioned that he said he did not want to get involved in wars or bloodshed but proceeds to be a busybody anyway; there're multiple of such similar situations as well, not just for wars). He almost never goes out of the way to get revenge and basically just accepts all kinds of insults thrown at him as though he wasn't the subject of the insults, but would instead go out of the way to get involved in something that isn't any of his own god darn business. I'd reckon that the author is somehow thinking about WWII where the Japanese were portrayed in a bad light due to their violence or activities and is now trying to brainwash people into thinking that the standard Japanese has a loser-like personality like Satou does.

The MC is also hypocritical in the way where he "never lays a hand on his female companions" but always harbor "semi le*d-ish" thoughts about them. Oh, did I forget to mention he frequently visits brothels as well and always thinking about how "I may consider 'her' if she were 5 years older'" etc.?

All in all, there is a decent concept in how the story of the novel is (death march aka touring the world; albeit in the later chapters this is mostly done via the air so I haven't a clue how the story steered away from the title of the novel), but the personality of the MC drops this novel all the way to hell for all the frustrations given to some, or most of the readers. If you're someone who would frequently offer your left cheek should your right cheek ever be slapped by another, then this novel is for you. If you want something to read just to pass time, I would not recommend this novel since you may just get frustration for this garbage mid-way through and find it hard to quit reading the novel (since you may well be thousands of chapters into it).

p.s. Yes, I know I said I'll try to cut it short. But even the length of what I've typed is far from sufficient from describing the flaws in the thought process and the personality of the MC (aka hypocrite MC). I honestly think that only masochists would truly enjoy reading this, while the rest of the readers are just too deep into the waters to just quit halfway through. I'm still in this mostly just to see who summoned the MC and who that "mysterious girl" from his flashback is. <<less

I never do reviews but I definitely felt the need considering this is the most recommended novel under Overlord.

I want to start off by saying it is not even close to Overlord in terms of writing, world building and character development. It boggles my mind as to how people set this next to that. This is, at best a work I would recommend to someone that hasn't read any of the plethora of generic OP protagonist novels with a harem he will never touch. If you haven't read anything like... more>> that then you are probably new to the fantasy genre as you could easily throw a dart at a board full of fantasy novels with OP main characters and land on a story like this 9 times out of 10.

The only positive aspect of this series is that there seems to be some idea of a greater story. You just have to look beyond all of the generic bits to see it and, to me, that's not how a well written novel should be. It should be able to stand on it's own merits and draw the reader in. It should never require the reader to along through generic copy/pasta writing and turn their brains off to find something of worth value multiple volumes in.

How some people could rate this 5* is beyond me but more power to then if they can read through this because this is where I'm drawing the line and dropping this series. <<less

Hi fellow readers, I had been reading since a long time, lots of works. It reminded a little of during my childhood time, getting few small A5 hardcover Arthurian stories and heroic tales of knights round table from Ladybird. Death march is a great novel mainly on heartwarming stories, about kindness, friendship and cuteness. It shares hope and encourage generousities and chivalry. There are time when we have troubles and someone offer their hand to pull you up, and we in turn helping others, getting a smile is a great... more>> reward. Definitely not for those who prefer lots of actions, blood, violent, darker side of humanity or challenging with society, etc with bad attitude. Good day all, peace is nice. <<less
