A phoenix is a creature of legends, a wonder of the world, an imagery of life and destruction. This fabled creature signifies the rise of a hero in a virtual world where battles occur for the sake of honor and glory!

Zhang Yang was a professional gamer in the first and most fantastic game that revolutionized the world: God’s Miracle. A game where traditional knowledge in RPGs did not matter anymore, players would have to manually target and evade attacks, giving rise to a significant gap in skill between a professional and an amateur gamer.

Zhang Yang’s downfall came a little too soon. His girlfriend was snatched, his guild was harassed and disbanded, and he was even driven to commit su*cide! Jumping off the top floor of a hotel, Zhang Yang seemed as though he was soaring like a phoenix. Little did he know that the end of his life also signified his rise from the ashes.

Well, this novel is the baby born from the unholy union of Shura's Wrath and Zhan Long while King's Avatar watched by the side with an ugly face. Take that as you will. Add to that a 'Second Chance' twist and I guess I don't need to say much more about it. RotLG has all the weaknesses of all these novels and some of their strengths. It is not enough. I don't need to say this, but do turn your brain off if you are going read. Surprisingly, it might... more>> be entertaining, but so are it's parents given the degree of activity your brain has while reading them.

Well, maybe I'm being too mean. It can be fun if you just enjoy it for what it is, but don't expect anything else from it. It will not blow your mind with the plot. It will not take you to the edge of your seat with the action. It will not make you laugh your socks off with the comedy. It will not make you care about the MC. It will not make your heart skip a beat when reading about the 'romance'. But to some extent all of these elements are there, so if you want to just enjoy the simple 'OP character in a MMORPG' trope then give it a shot I guess.

I would rate it 2/5 at best, but there might be some fun value in there if you enjoy the genre. <<less

Basically, a story where the world revolves around the MC. Everyone good is either part of the MC's group or a hot chick that flirts with the MC. Everyone else are s*upid, greedy people. Every time the MC leaves his home (out of virtual reality) he saves a s**tty, hot, virg*n chick from getting r*ped... literally.

Anyways... pretty repetitive, but is mostly entertaining. Gave a 3 because most of these translations are pretty unreasonable with everything being juuuuussssttt right for the MC to always be moving forward and look good.

Couldn't take... more>> it anymore when he's withdrawing money from a bank and bank robbers show up, but pause to r*pe a hot, virg*n, s**tty girl that had just given the MC her number along with his withdrawal money. The MC of course saves her and stops the bank robbery in the process (he was the best shooter in university??). Utterly ridiculous. Also every hot chick that is added to his party online (there's a lot) lives in his city.

In conclusion, if you're not bothered by the sheer shamelessness of the author to stack improbabilities and impossibilities as easily as lego blocks, then you'll enjoy this book. <<less

I won't make it long: game's mechanic makes little sense (arguable), lots of (lol) politics, no interesting plot, typical condescending MC, typical chinese cast characters, no worthwhile antagonist... You could mistake yourself reading a cultivation novel.

3/5, in consideration of the 200+ chapters that I didn't read.

It was alright for the first... idk 30 - 40 chapters to fill my generic vrmmo novel need while I wait for chapters but jeeze does it just keep going downhill.

A lot of cringe comedy and really poor development for the characters. There's been no reference back to the reason for the MC caring about being the best other than he just wants to. Lots of cringey boring dialog too, fatty is a pe*vert for the thousandth time, girl gets called flat chested over and over, etc etc.

It's like someone... more>> did a really bad job of trying to rewrite rebirth of the thief who roamed the world. Go read that or overlord if you want a decent vrmmo novel. <<less

Good novel!!!

And let me remind you that this novel 2011's while shura's 2014. So just in case with some ones that this novel's similar to the SW then you have to firstly read carefully year.

This very good to watch that 6 years old novel so good even when so many years has passed (not talking about classics, they are immortal), well that may not be so good to compare them with top novels, because it's relatively short novel compared to them, I only wish that it will not be so... more>> boring as ZL. <<less

Generic, if you are someone who have read gaming novels. Closest game comparison is Reign of the Hunters, another title whose internal game is heavily influenced by World of Warcraft, except that the MC in this one is male and the story is like Zhan Long, emphasizing the descriptions of gameplay rather than real world relationships like The King's Avatar. The MC doesn't go out all of his way to be a loner like in Emperor of Solo Play.

It's another do-over story, a guy gets transported back to the past... more>> and returns to what he knows best: gaming. At least the author had the decency to mention that the MC does not have the business acumen to take advantage of his future knowledge in the real world.

The story flows very directly and like other novels in the genre the emphasis is on the game and it far outweighs scenes in the real world. Basically you'll be told that this game is a global phenomenon and to be great in the game can have real life implications.

The first 13 translated chapters does not offer anything new as yet and there is nothing that make it a must-read. But of worthy mention is the extra footnotes describing the gaming mechanics to those who are unfamiliar with MMORPGs and thus make it a gentle introduction to the genre for the uninitiated.

Update as of ch378: I have forgotten when, but somewhere the author lost track of the RL aspects of the novel and the bulk of the story was about the super MC and his group of super friends clear dungeons and achieving world firsts. The most interesting part (for me) is the Real Life relationships and shady business deals and le*d encounters... but unfortunately they appear rarely, and when they do; it's about the trivial nonsense that rarely advance the tragic hook that was introduced in the early chapters. The earlier plot is literally drowned by the dozens and dozens of chapters of statistics and boss fights, all of which are not at all interesting due to the MC's plot armor. His hanger-ons are not unique in any way: you have the pe*verted friends, shallow women, jealous rivals who take the game too seriously and NPCs that shower affection and favors on them.

It's basically reading about a guy playing a game... if that is what you want, why don't you search for Let's Play Youtube videos instead? <<less

I am by no means a feminist, but holy sh*t this author really hates women and sees them only as c*ck s*aves for males. If there is any good-looking girl, he will talk about her ti*s and ass size. If someone fails to invite him to his guild, they try to seduce him with best looking girl from their clan. Big chest size = good, small = hehe, bad (that's his logic). Side characters are utter tr*sh, especially "FATTY", of course there is BFF guy that is fat, pe*vert, and... more>> thinks only by his d*ck (he even joined different guild for a girl that was obviously just trying to lure him in). Author would just randomly switch a word "women" with a word "b*tch", out of nowhere he calls MC's teammate a bit*h for no reason. Dialogs are as tr*sh as characters, I dont even have the energy to describe them. If you are thinking about reading this novel just read chapter 48 "The Old Scammer" and if you see no problem then go ahead, but for me that was the breaking point. This story is just downgraded and bad version of ROTSSG. <<less

Don't expect more, man. This is a Chinese novel so like most Chinese novels just plagiarizes from other novels. But this is China, there is no plagiarism law in this country. So enjoy.

The dialogue is terrible with disgusting endings and Broken plot.

I recommend the novel Rebirth of the Thief Who Roamed The World than this novel.

This is just my opinion so don't be too used as a reference for reading this novel. If we have one opinion, maybe we have the same taste.

1. Doesnt keep the readers in the loop on current equipments, skills and levels of the MC nor his friends (or atleast not as much that would keep you excited on a new equipment upgrade or a change in his skills)
2. Doesnt have any good Dialogues. Like for the love of god please communicate well with the people around the MC! literally the only talking that happens is tr*sh talking and a whole lot of bullying or teasing. this leads to a garbage character development. Out of nowhere,... more>> the female leads falls for the MC, like wtf?
3. The way this MC manages his financials is just frustrating. He had so much potential and just does something really inefficient with his resources and advantages. And I like an account of the profits reaped and the expenditures he has to face but NOPE! its all just a grey area. He just vaguely skims through his bank account and says "its just alot of uncountable figures".

I relish in romance and love a virtual mmorpg novel, but this started off okay, and turned really bad... I honestly had to force myself to finish this. So people who are looking for a 'dang that smart!' or an 'awww' with warm fuzzy feeling, moments, LOOK ELSEWHERE!

I'm the kind of person whose biased to this sort of genre, so take it from me that this web series is JUST NOT WORTH IT. <<less

First I will say that I like the stories with good harem build and op MC so reading up to this point was frustrating as the f*cking sh*t.

so I can't keep reading this crap, with the MC hypocrite and brainless enemies is unreadeble.

At the beginning it's interesting and funny but it repeats the same information and jokes again and again until it gets tiring to read, and the worst thing is the idiotic and hypocritical MC who continues to find excuses one more pitiful than the other to reject... more>> every woman who seduced him, not to mention that there are dozens of chapters that is not interesting at all and they are pure random missions.

And when the MC says that he only wants to be with one woman in another chapter of the nothing accepts another woman as if the excuse he used with the other women who tried to seduce him would only apply to them but not to some women in particular, also pulling other women to their supposed fat friend...

not to mention that everything happen inside the game, what happens outside the game like events between MC and another or something else is only one thousandth part of the novel, as an event every 30 to 40 chapters and everything else is within the game, is like you are reading about a person's dream to then see that what happened in the dream had no effect on reality, extremely boring.

in short if you do not like the novels with fags, super lucky MC and hypocrites that do not accept a damn harem until the end of the story it is better that you pass by without even looking, it is for your own mental health believe me. <<less

What a nonsensical ending to what was a complete train wreck of a novel throughout, start was decent (as is with most of this type of game novel), but descended into chaos when his harem started forming. Don't even get me started on the game systems... (skimmed through pretty much the last half of the novel, glad to be rid of this).

The writing quality is bad, you'll end up skipping most of the "game" elements such as questing and grinding because they have zero effect on the plot except to make the MC's party more op. The novel is passable if you enjoy harem and you don't hate the female characters. Otherwise, there's not other redeeming quality about this novel except for the fact that it is completed.

Current rating: 1.5/5

As of chapter 681:

Alright, I've now read this novel to chapter 681, and its mostly still a fairly average novel. Some time skips here and there during leveling where the author can't be assed to write anything. He skipped over the entire boss fight for sun xin yu's super powerful S tier inheritance and mostly glossed over her skills. (IIRC we saw one of her skills described and have had her transform once, with the transformation being largely glossed over) The author is blatantly taking plots from other... more>> stories, I've counted 2 so far, them being The Lord of the Rings and Alice in Wonderland, with fairly few changes. There might have been a third much earlier on but I barely remember the first 400 or so chapters because everything is so bland. All of this is not even that much of a problem to me either, the biggest thing that pisses me off about this story and makes me think its a 1/5 or a 2/5 at best, rather than my previous 3/5, is the fact that the little girl, wei yan er is actually getting dumber as time goes on. At this point she is literally only acting like the greediest, b*tchiest, most annoying 8 year old in the world. She's so goddamn s*upid that she thinks 15 gold is higher than 20. I don't know how she survived until she was 18 year old while being this idiotic, but she also SOMEHOW made it into a university. It blows my goddamn mind and nothing she does is cute, no matter how much the author says it is, its just incredibly f*cking annoying and I'm so f*cking close to dropping this novel exclusively because of her.

As of chapter 148:
Decent novel, very cliche however. Some of the complaints I see other people say are reasonable and some are rediculous. For example, experience numbers make Damn near 0 sense, but the leveling speed in general is fairly normal. The 100% defense piercing is ridiculous, but either the author forgets that doing true damage is op or monsters basically have no defense to begin with, it only seems to be something like a 50% damage increase. The hidden quest/reward system is kinda silly like they are in all these kinds of books, but you tend to expect that. How is the protag supposed to be 2x as powerful as everyone else otherwise? A lot of stuff seems to be inspired at least in part by popular mmos such as wow, as for example, the rage system is fairly similar, some of the skills go by the same name and have the same or similar effects, etc. Real life things are mostly nonexistent so far, but when there they are fairly dull, although short. Think "This morning I did some exercise and ate some food" or "I got off to get some lunch of so and so type." The harems a bit silly, but not really anything out of the ordinary. You've got your flirty well bodied girl, the loli that hates anyone talking about how she's flat, the thief that is always a cold beauty expert thats very competetive. Like I said to begin with, fairly cliche and feels a bit by the numbers, though overall the novel is enjoyable enough to read. Fights also don't take 10 chapters so that's a plus in my book. If you've already read The Kings Avatar and other such good novels in the genre, this is a good timewaster, but it's also not exactly outstanding. <<less

I would give this a -1 if I could just for making me waste my time thinking it might get better. It doesn't. It gets worse. As the story goes on you realize the MC is not a good person, the supporting characters are either idiots or terrible people (or both), the game mechanics are some of the worst I've ever seen in this genre, and the real-life-chapters are beyond any shadow of a doubt the worst I've ever seen. Oh, you also realize the author has severe character flaws... more>> and likes to write them in as traits of his novel characters and act like they're good traits. <<less

Typical racist, sexist, terribly written cliche of a vrmmorpg that is just plain wish-fulfillment.
The plot gets repeated several times with minor changes to churn out more chapters.
None of the characters are likable for more than a few chapters, if they even last that long.
The majority of the characters are one-dimensional and make decisions that go against their established personality just to continue with the wish-fulfillment.
Things happen in a very unrealistic manner which cannot be excused by the established setting, and it clearly shows how the author... more>> must live in their mother's bas**ent under a rock to have such a poor grasp of reality and society.

Honestly the writing is more of a incoherent mess than my review.

Lastly let me say I am Chinese, and the blatant racism makes me sick. If I didn't have a compulsive need to finish reading things I started I would have dropped this after about reading 20 chapters or so. <<less

Solid 4. Starts interesting, but with more chaps, becomes repeatable. U can just skip boss fights, mob grinding to end of arc and will lose nothing. So, now at chap 400+ its like easy story about student guy becoming CEO, his adventures with girls, joking with Co. And ranting about money leeching sisters. Ah, forgot, he also do quests. End.

You want to read a good VRMMORPG novel? Well, this isn't it. If you are new to the genre, there's plenty of other stuff to read before you're forced to read this piece of work. Even though there are some inconsistencies, the story of the novel is bearable and while there are a bunch of useless explanations, those can be skipped. However, the characters of the story are straight up tr*sh.

Very minor spoilers:

Spoiler

The two girls that the MC most frequently hangs out with are literally more detrimental to him than his enemies. They make his progress slower, constantly steal his money and equipment, and are generally ungrateful for anything the MC does for them. Characters you would want to punch in the face if you knew them and the type that would not have any friends. MC's best friend is a near rapist and the another party member literally almost shot him. There are only 2 people in his party that are remotely decent people and even they are one dimensional.

[collapse]

If you really have no other novels of this type to read and can bear with abusive party members, then go for it. Otherwise, try something else. <<less

I've seen people joke about writing a MMORPG novel where every hit is written in.. But this novel is actually close to that.

Every miniboss, every difficulty, they spent entire chapters just slowly moving through the dungeons. There is basically no plot. The fights are so uninteresting that I pretty much just skim over stuff in between.

The "plot" that seems to be focused around his girlfriend is pretty much nonexistent so far.

You may notice that there is a harem tag, which kinda conflicts with the fact that his entire story is... more>> being back in time and building up resources to save his girlfriend. I don't have a problem with that, but the way he ends up hooking with the first other girl is just so s*upidly irrational that I refuse to accept that human beings could make the decisions they do. It's forced and s*upid.

Finally, pretty much all of the female characters in this story are stereotypes. There is only one female character that I could characterize as being intelligent, and she's not part of the main cast. The first love interest (besides past life girlfriend) is has no personality besides being cold, untalkative, and aggressive, and there are numerous instances of the clumsy, ditsy girl stereotype. It's like the author can't write a female character that is also a nuanced human being.

I really wanted to like this novel because it's an MMORPG, but it sucks. Maybe I'll come back when the female lead enters.

If you find yourself disappointed in this story, read Rebirth of the Thief. It's a better version of this, albeit with a much slower translation speed. <<less
