this MC is not the "king of assassin" you would imagine him to be. He is more like a no.1 pe*verted douchebag that doesn't have anything special. Literally in the first 600 chapter he kills more weaklings than actual strong enemies.

i hate how he keeps proclaiming to be "king of assassin" and "evil monarch" but not even once does he acts like real assassin. He said that the two disabled kids from Huang Hall is useless but in the end he still teaching them, he said Ye Gu Han doesn't... more>> deserve his respect but in the end he still cure him. What is going on ?

i would rather read some generic martial arts novel that doesn't try so hard to be so different but ended up being dissapointment. <<less

It was a long time ago that I read this novel, and I read way more than 800 chapters.

I will give this thing a credit : it's not as brainless as other xianxia novels. Not an exceptionnally smart one. But at least not such a brainless one.

Then why did I give it 2 stars?

You must know that although our great MC is a king assassin, he still paint himself to have morals and wants us to give him the higher righteous ground when he deals with his enemies. So, every... more>> time he deals with them, he wants us to spit on them by using morals as reasoning.

Another thing is the MC is a modern man from the 21 century and he has the mentality of a grown man. Keep that in mind

In the very first chapters, the MC is transmigrated in a 16years old body and he has a 10 years old maid. The very first romantic hints were actually with that little girl; with him using words such as "cute" "shy". Then he said that he doesn't mind to show her his naked body because apparently she "doesn't care". He has the mentality of a GROWN man.

Then his grandfather said that being a prince consort is an embarrassing situation because the man can't get a concubine cause the woman heart maybe jealous and her personality perverse... because she doesn't want to share her lover?

Afterwards, I remember him hooking up with his brother's widow and the tian fa forest master (basically a beast emperor).

In the later chapters, it became redundant and I feel like the author's is projecting himself in his protagonist. I have never seen such a hypocrite of a protagonist. Not in a good way, I mean he really likes to take the high moral ground while shaming his enemies. Why do I actually feel that his enemies aren't nearly as disgusting as him ?

The author later made the jun family a great powerhouse and didn't even bother to give a time lapse to the mc's fast raising cultivation making it dislikable and unreasonable. I mean although you still understand where it'is coming from, it'is still tasteless.

To be honest, I liked li youran 1000 times better and I only hated the MC more when he caused his downfall.

And the mc's comment about how he's better than li youran for saving his woman, I would like to counter it by saying if this novel didn't have that much women or NO woman and NO romance at all, I would have given it AT LEAST a four stars.

The harem is really disgusting, completely destroyed the story. Doesn't look like a king of assassin if he's indulging so much in these matters and prioritizing women over his household. Li youran is acting more like one, at least he gave up the ONLY person whom he really loved for his plans.

Nothing like this tr*sh of an MC.

I must say that this story is certainly written by a man, or so I hope. If this was written by a woman, I truly, truly pity her. <<less

The story is fun but sometime you hope somes bad luck will fall on the arrogant MC and you are happy when it's happening. Most of the Time: "Go mister vilain make him surfer a little! Oh... He died. Go vilain#2!... He died."

The problem now: you need to pay for each chapter. Man, you are translating the work of someone else don't be too greedy Mr translator.

One of few nice xuanhuan novels that currently being translated. What make this novel standout for me is the politic element in the story, such complicated and beautifully written. There's one thing that make oem less fun. It's the lack new chapters. If my math is right, with 〜3, 6days/ch. It would take at least 10 years to finish oem (still, better than nothing, right).

My review may contain spoilers so read at your own risk.

This story is fantastic and its writing is a joy to read. However, once we get to the point where the author begins going after "aliens" which are basically his racist way of calling Japanese, where he labels them as truly disgusting beings that are born twins and in*est to produce children, cruel, etc, everything goes downhill, the MC's attitude suddenly changes from a calculating intelligent person into a maniac who just wants to kill them all.

Though I get that... more>> the Chinese really don't like the Japanese for the war crimes in the past, bringing that hatred into a web novel just doesn't feel appropriate. It is also needlessly festering new hatred towards the Japanese for the younger generation.

As of the time I wrote this review, the translation is still far from the when these events take place, so I still recommend that people read this. It's a 5/5 before the author changes direction to racism, 1/5 after. <<less

I liked how it portrayed brotherhood and humour in the beginning of this novel but it's just too disgusting as you read further and it made me realize how disgusting what human thoughts can reach. This is like putting what you desire of in the story where everything goes your way and what is more unbearable is the hypocrisy, it's just too sinister.

Great world build up ends up getting destroyed by the very own creator.

This author has a problem with writing good and meaningful content, he just adds nonsense fillers sometimes the entire chapter is filler just useless talks which matters nothing to the plot.

I really liked about the characters was that they had lifelike personalities not like other novels but the author ends up ruining it with useless crappy drama even some soap operas don't have such crap filled drama.

Power levels are a joke like most authors this one too didn't... more>> establish a proper base and when it seemed plausible he ended up adding useless power levels and cultivation.

Harem which was interesting at the start ended up getting ruined by over drama, all the females ends up becoming dolls nothing more.

Author has a childish mindset no seriousness whatsoever it's like giving a sword to a five year old.

Gosh a good novel ruined by it's creator. <<less

So, the beginning of this is fairly okay, once you accept the fact that the title is the falsest of advertising. The MC is a horribly under leveled underdog using schemes and plots to survive, thrive, and protect what remains of his family. There is a ton of filler, but it feels that the author made an effort to make it entertaining filler at least. The personalities of characters match what you'd expect them to be if they were real life people with similar status and circumstances. There's several instances... more>> of the author pulling random characters out of no where that should've been introduced earlier. The random Disney tier villains who pop up out of nowhere and are quickly dispatched by MC should've been a warning of what is to come. At this point I feel that a 3/5 rating would be fair.

And then the MC powers up.

The filler is no longer interesting, just the not!MC side being extreme hypocrites while MC side preaches with all the power the author can muster. The romance between the MC and Main Girl is so hamfisted that there's a corkscrew tail following behind it. Those personalities I mentioned? Those are gone, replaced by cardboard props which occasionally make an appearance in between the current hypocrite prop whenever they might add the slightest of word count. I'd give more complaints, but honestly it feels that the last 200 or so chapters have been nothing but hypocrisy/preaching in the name of word count and "romance".

Actual spoilers ahead.

Spoiler

Okay, so MC's family was nearly extinguished because his uncle unknowingly fell in love with some princess from a super family. Said princess had an arranged marriage since birth to another family within her faction. Those Disney tier villains I mentioned were a organization that took in poor and orphaned children and trained them in various ways before selling them, those who lacked the attributes to be trained were shoved into pots to grow grotesque then sold to freak shows. Turns out said organization is/was controlled by the princess' fiancé's family, and the children who were preyed upon were children of MC's family underlings. What's worse is that the author couldn't stop there, now the fiancé's family has been plotting to overthrow the princess' family for decades and now it's MC's job to bail them out. The entire romance between the uncle and princess is a massive blow to the enjoyability of the story.

[collapse]

I'd currently rate this at 1.2/5, the.2 solely due to its early chapters.

Edit: up to chapter 617.

Spoiler

I have never actually wanted to physically strangle the life out of a fictional character before, until I learned more about MC's mother. What a complete wretched and selfish woman. Her husband and two eldest sons (no, turns out she clocked out before learning about their deaths. That's even worse, you shrew.) were plotted against and mu*dered when her youngest was seven years old. Her response is to go to her family and fall into a coma, apparently the doctors say she wishes to die. Her mother used up the entirety of the family's wealth to buy special rocks to keep her "coma area" warm. There is four paintings surrounding her of her dead husband. Even the maids have stuck around for a decade to care for her.

If my wife were to abandon my last living child in her grief over my death I'd be rolling in my grave. The worst part has to be the author treating this as some incredible virtue. This is just completely and utterly despicable, this has to be in the name of word count, right? Jesus, I never thought I'd prefer tournament arcs over anything.

the novel is pretty good, but there is so much fluff due to the author trying to be poetic.

there is so much talk of morality that it gets sickening as well, considering that the MC isn't a good person but a very selfish person.

there is so much pretense in the novel that it can make you puke.

... more>> not to mention that most of the bad "poetry" is lost in translation.

the novel probably would only be 300 chapters long if you removed all the fluff and bad poetry.

honestly the translator are good and tries their best but they should just pick another novel up and not this novel which tries it's hardest to be a classic but ends up being an example of a tryhard.

TTNH, which is the author's next work is much better, but it has all the tropes that you would expect in a xianxia that it gets boring as well.

to be honest, we should just blacklist this author and move on with life.

there is a reason why so many others authors have manga, anime and drama adaptions but not this author. <<less

One of the worst novels I've actually read. Chapter 508 is a normal length chapter, but the only thing that happens is MC swings his sword, enemies shoots an arrow and they both miss. Author runs around in circles the entire chapter describing this.

This is what the entire story is about. The author just likes to m*sturbate himself, and we idiot readers just follow along. I'm dropping this.

I don't even know why I can endure to read this novel up to 200 chapters. I meant the story is all over places, the more I read the I frustrated I became. MC is so full of himself but he only has intelligent of a 10year old. Side characters are all idiot, has no real personality. It made MC looks smart even though he's a completely ret*rd. Plot is nowhere to be seen. I really want to stangle the author for wasting my time.

Its one of my favourite novels so far..

Characters build is unique with each personality is detailed, the plot story is good, not many fillers in chapters, and the romance is not so overhype while the comedy is sometimes more dominant but still has balanced with the main story of politics, wars, and revenge..

Spoiler

MC is unique because he has his own characteristics which is strong will, egoism, sense of justice, and funny ways of handling things over.

He could be so ruthless towards his enemies, but he still has his brain because he won't kill blindly. He still has some kind of soft heart at handlings his own families, friends, and lovers.

Here to answer One Simple Question: Is it Shit?

Absolutely not!

Absolutely beautifuly written, the characters are colorful, but somwhat cliche. It is a bit slow pace compared to other novels. For a MC assassin, there is distinct lack of killing.
Spoiler

There is this one charcter called Lady Yue'r which tries to assaasinate the main character, yet she gets away from him for like 100-200 chapters without any backlash.

However all of the flaws of this novel pale in comparision to the glory that is interaction between MC and Fat Tang.
Each and every single dialog of this couple is just pure gold. I have identical friend to Fat Tang and he is more less the same, he even has asked me to open up bussines with him before and proclaimed himself a great bussinessman, altho in reality he has absolutely no skill.
There are many times I was just choking on air from laughter, this duo is truly unbeateable.
[collapse]

The only problem is that, it is slow, painfully slow at times.

The first few chapter was amazing, but like most CN, it's affected by MC that is too arrogant and side characters that have no personalities.

CN tend to introduce side characters nicely, but as the story progress, they are forced to lose their "personalities" so that the MC comes out as amazing. Unfortunately, turning side characters into sh*t puppets doesn't make the MC great.

His friend that's a son from a huge business clan is with him, supposed to do business. You'd expect that friend to be great on business on his... more>> own, but nope. He's doing business word for word, letter by letter according to what an Assassin says.

You'd expect him to drop off the "a**hole" personality after a while when people start seeing contradiction to his actions, but nope. He just level up the as*hole personality into a super f*cking faggot as*hole personality instead!

What do you know, an MC who was an Assassin in his previous life that would kill for half a dime if the target goes against his justice, turned out to be an even bigger as*hole than a spoiled brat who was called the #as*hole in the city.

You'd expect the best a**hole, I mean, The best assassin in the world to be able to handle women, but nope, he can't. He's an arrogant pansy that was "supposed" to be great.

And expect the story go from "We can't provoke them yet." to "We're improving, we got a lot of cards to use, we can f*ck them up in secret, BUT we still can't provoke them" maybe after 200 more chapters it'll be "Well, he already control half of the world, but we still can't provoke them"

That's the story of the "Otherworldly Evil Monarch" The great assassin that turned out to be a bigger as*hole than the as*hole guy he reincarnated to, Lives his second life to avoid provoking anybody, Gets praised by his close family and friends because why not, there's gotta be time where he comes out as great.

Do I recommend this? Hell to the No.
Huge potential, unfortunately, it's just your another CN that the MC becomes stronger and stronger, but still can't provoke anybody. <<less

I guess a super OP reincarnated MC that goes around showing off? The novel questions the morals of the different characters eg Uncle and MC with their different views- to save or not to save, to help or not to help. I can see the MC's character development, he becomes more caring to the people around him, a little bit less ruthless. But am I the only one who finds the females characters in this novel super annoying?? Like the 2 harem members introduced so far are "talented beauties from... more>> good families" but I can only see them as infatuated whiny spoilt brats. I found the Dugu girl annoying since she was first introduced. <<less

The major problem with this novel is that everyone thinks and acts exactly the same way. Any plan MC makes goes either exactly as planned - or better, and if anything is different it is only because he didn't have enough information. Everyone values the same things, everyone (MC included) thinks it is OK to bully everyone even slightly weaker... MC is also suffering from the extreme case of "japanese highschool male virg*n" disease, being a complete idiot in matters of love and anything related to opposite s*x - even... more>> though he should've at least gained some knowledge from his predecessor.

Frankly, the main entertaining part of this novel is then he is trying his "rascal" act - but it seems the further the story goes, the less it appears and the less convincing it is. <<less

This is definitely a slower paced novel, usually 241 chapters into a xuanhuan novel I'd expect mountains to be used as juggling tools for the MC (or at least the Big Baddie™) but I appreciate that it is a lot more subdued in what the people are actually capable of doing with their powers.

Another point I have enjoyed in the story is the budding romance. I normally don't expect much in this regard when it comes to xianxia/wuxia/xuanhuan novels, since more often than not it's almost instantaneous for both the... more>> male and female characters to just fall in love and there we go. In OEM, I feel like the (I assume) first romance is built up over a long time for both parties, especially the MC and how he slowly comes to realize that while he might have been a loner with no desire for romance in his previous life, there's this one particular person who just tugs at his heart strings. Don't get me wrong, the romance isn't about to win any awards for how ground-breaking and amazing it is, but I appreciate that a little more time has gone into than what I am used to in other, similar works, and I appreciate the author for it.

The only thing keeping me from giving it a full 5 stars, is that while the novel builds up these antagonists to be smart and clever and not just your average over-bearing and all-powerful enemies (Li You Ran for instance) they never seem to get any victories, no matter how small. And that is frustrating to a certain degree. Because at first I was very hopeful that Li You Ran and others of his ilk could prove to actually be worthy adversaries for the MC. But a lot of twists of fate and pure luck (that, to be fair, are hilarious at times) leave them with no victories to threaten the MC in any way.

Overall though, I would say this is definitely worth a read if you do not mind a slower story where things do not ramp up to unbelievable levels within the first tenth of the story. <<less

It starts off going on and on about how Evil an assassin the MC is...

Then to prove it they give us the example that the MC never kills innocents and only assassinates evil people. the more evil the cheaper it is. He once assassinated an extremely evil human trafficker, but since there was no living person with a vendetta to pay him he "extorted" a single penny from a random little girl for his "payment" for him killing this completely random and unrelated human trafficker that nobody asked him to... more>> kill.

Seriously? most of the first chapter is just the author telling us (not showing) a bunch of informed traits that are blatantly false. As well as being chuuni and edgy. I have seen better writing than this in the cesspool that is fanfiction <<less

The story alone is well thought out and isn't like the usual popular stories where the protagonist wows everyone with his heaven defying skills and abilities. He takes the time to grow like everyone else, and he only has one layer of plot armour. Major female characters don't immediately swoon over him, the antagonists aren't arrogant bigots that only serve as cannon fodder (well some of them are), and the protagonist actually seems to have some interpersonal skills.

Other characters are built to be smart and cunning as well (with the... more>> exception of 90% of the dugu family) and it's refreshing to not be able to predict the direction of the story. While I do appreciate the low amount of common xianxia tropes, I appreciate the closeness of the Jun family the most. It really reinforces the idea of having a harmonious family where everyone respects and cares for each other. No matter what each character's motivation is, I can relate to every family member's love and respect for the other. I'd like to see this more in xianxia novels instead of the protagonist going into a bloodthirsty rage after he learns a family member has been killed/wronged even though there might've been 2 lines of family interaction in the entire story. (Looking at you CD)

Overall, the story just seems more... real, each character's personality is believable (even the dugu family). The character's described are all different (maybe not the latest sons of the dugu family), and aren't just cookie cutter repeats of the angry irrational antagonist, the wowed and ass kissing spectator or the swooning damsel in distress. Don't get me wrong, it's alright to have some in every story, but when all your characters fall under the same category, it gets annoying. <<less

It feels like the author is a grandpa. Why? Well he writes such amazing novel where all emotions you can have as a reader. The character's build up is quite good. It is a reincarnation/transmigration story but somehow this one is unique. You will experience drama/slice of life, good and exciting fighting, comedy and more. The MC is very interesting and his interactions with other characters are very profound unlike other MC you can get from other xianxia novel who only knows how to show off brainlessly.
