Yun is a novice MMO player who equipped only unpopular skills labelled as garbage. However, soon after the official launch of the game, the NPCs stopped selling Recovery Potions. Everyone finally started to notice the importance of Support Magic and Items. And that spells trouble for Yun as well as all the other support-based players. They received orders for recovery potion from endless flood of players en masse, some more aggressive players even go as far as forcing the support players to be their personal craftsman. In order to prevent this from going out of hands, all the support players grouped together to form a community to keep things in order.

This is a story about a hero who was trapped in a new VRMMO and...

HECK NO!!!

It is all about a nice and relaxing way to enjoy VRMMO in your own ways.

... more>> The enjoyment is from the new discovery of combination of "sense" which makes it more interesting.

Even the game is explained to make "The Only One" or to be exact your own playstyle, so don't prostest when Our MC is doing exactly that. :D.

I have a theory that Yun actually sometimes looks feminime is because of the game itself, cause the game recognize him as a girl than maybe it stimulates hormones that connected with woman in his brain, so it sometimes makes him doki - doki. Or maybe it is just the author's taste, damn Aloha Zacchou.

And yes you didn't read it wrong that I have finish Vol.12 beforehand, though with confusing translation using 'google translate', but there is a cool action of Sei-nee in Vol.11 and there is dragon battle in Vol.12, just pray that krytykal will update faster. Ugh I need a better translation to reread it too.

It is a really nice light novel which stimulates your imagination in the middle of hard to read plot novel which makes your heart heavy. So just enjoy it as healing novel when you get tired of heavy plot. ^_^ <<less

A slice of life MMOVRPG story. Usually I enjoy this kind of genre. What disappointing is, Yun is a boy that turned female since start. I like gender bender stories, but this MC Yun doesn't deny it at all for being a girl. He even allowed his sisters to call him oneechan. He just sometimes says it "I'm a man" but no act like man at all. I see him as a feminine guy in real life who finally becomes a girl in game. A real man should be disturbed... more>> to be a girl, but he doesn't show that. And this novel apparently full of cute girls, cute clothes, cute things etc. I don't see a man or any guy at all except MC's two merchant friends and his bestfriend. Even they don't contribute much in this novel. You will not see Yun grow up as a character, it's just a story about plain daily life of girls in VRMMORPG. <<less

Only sense online, is a fluff story set in a vrmmorpg world. It is fairly decent, but very monotonous if I can put a word to it. There's no clear story that happens and no sense of greater conflict or very interesting character development.

Our MC is a guy whose is rendered in game as a girl because he went with the default settings which gave him a female avatar character based on his girlish looks. This is the worst part of this novel series. It is unnecessary for him to... more>> have this issue, but it would've been better to have him as a girl from the start and not the weird gender bender deal. Though it seems romance is non-existent in this series, this MC was like this to serve as bait for yuri and gay romantic options in the game, and straight and gay in the real world chapters. It's easier to just consider him as female because of how weak this setup is, even he doesn't care about it all that much. A much better story, 1/2 prince did this much better but in reverse.

Other than that he's the typical light novel male protagonist, with more shoujo female character like traits on him. With no backbone and only says no when his clothes might become a dress for example. He's bland. Other characters range from being codified with tropes but is otherwise acceptable and are likeable characters to a point. But aren't very interesting and is one note.

The gaming portion is well, the sense portion of the title refers to skills you can have in game that can be levelled up and evolve. Our MC picks up what are considered tr*sh skills such as using a bow, mixing, sything for example. Bows in these novels always seem to get this appearance because of the higher skill needed to use them. Most likely other elements aren't going to sit well with those who know more about mmorpgs and other games.

So only sense online is average and certifiable as a series, if somewhat boring due to fatigue over how slow and uninteresting the books move through. <<less

Initially I enjoyed the story. The unique slice of life take on Vrmmorpg. It was cute and fun. However after awhile, it becomes hard to like the MC. (S) he is so weak and pathetic. Initially presented as a guy focused on crafting, eventually, everyone is a better crafter. In battles, if he trips and falls, he dies. Fortunately, he makes a revival potion, so he can revive himself the dozen times (s) he needs to defeat the weakest mobs. Finally, the world never really makes sense.... more>> For being a popular VRMMORPG, it's almost completely empty. The company making the game will doubtlessly be out of business soon, as it doesn't have enough players. Overall, a disappointing story, though one with occasional moments of humor. <<less

I find OSO a really cute and fluffy read full of shenanigans due to the protagonist Yun's personality and obliviousness (whether it be willful or not lol). I love unreliable narrator protags (Scum Villain is another fave series), and Yun definitely falls into that category, and the gap we can see in how he perceives himself versus how others perceive him make for a lot of hilarity.

It's not a series where I think too hard about the game logic or plausibility, it's something I read for the sake of my... more>> love for the cast of characters. I think that's def where OSO's strength lies - in a very charming cast of characters that you tend to want to root for and just enjoy reading about them enjoying themselves. Reading this series made me want to go play farming sims again haha.

Honestly also, I know ppl say the gender bender thing feels like a gimmick, but it's part of the enjoyment for me? Again, it's part of that "gap" I like and I do find the misunderstandings fun. I don't think I'd like OSO half as much without it. I do hope that Yun learns to be more confident in his appearance eventually, but I have been enjoying seeing his growth as a player and finding his niche and starting to realise that yeah he's got his place? (Honestly though, when his closest people are Myu and Sei and Taku, no wonder his idea of what's "strong" in-game is skewed.)

I think if you like cute slice-of-life kinds of series, you might enjoy this. If you're looking for a lot of action and a protag knowing they're boss and being boss.... probably not. <<less

I'm a little sad that this story is no longer published online.

the story is a typical lets play a game but in a quirky way. The action scene's are decently written but the pacing of leveling is odd. (Leveling up relatively fast in the beginning, then practically stop leveling, become underlevelt, get a massive power up, repeat. However the strongsuit of OSO is the social interactions between the players. The MC struggling to keep up with her irl. Friends and family (who are all top players and beta testers)... more>> and as a consequence she is unaware how broken she herself is.

Spoiler

MC uses a bow that is looked down upon due to bad performance, but by vol 13 she shoots meteors from her bow that destroy the landscape

additionally the MC is a crafter, but due to her connections with the top crafters, she doesn't realize she is the best potion brewer and considered part of the top 4.

[collapse]

combine this with her overwhelming supporting playerskill, and you get quite a few entertaining interactions with people that want to use her skills, without her realizing why.

as you may know I have been referring to the MC as a she instead of a he, the MC hates being seen as a girl, and is a guy IRL. But al of her actions make her seem "girly" to the point even the game mistakes her as a girl.

i would have loved to see a IRL meetup event where everyone realizes the MC wasn't lying about being a guy.

i think this story would be entertaining for people who like Bofuri, the story has a similar atmosphere, except a little added awkwardness because the MC is a guy instead. (I feel the 'guy in a girl body' is an unnecessary element, but it is what it is.)

side note, I love the leveling system (the senses with skills integrated) and open world feeling of this game, I wish I could play it. <<less

This is just a slice-of-life fluff series. The MC casually does a lot of things like growing herbs, making potions, but they're rarely written in detail. There's no excitement and very little drama. The MC is extremely polite; readers need to keep in mind that coming across as less assertive is actually considered being polite in Japan rather than "weak-willed" like in western countries, and promoting everyone else's happiness above your own is part of the culture. When he really dislikes something, such as being called "Missy, " he makes... more>> a point about it.

The MC accidentally enters a game with a female avatar, but it's not a big deal. People play characters of opposite genders all the time.

There are a number of odd plot points. For instance, players assumed the game would be identical to the beta. The game, even after the beta, was extremely imbalanced. Instead of leveling up various skills naturally by using them like in Skyrim and related games, they have to equip the skills to get any use out of them first, which isn't very intuitive. Those are only the basic issues in the setting itself, but other plot and logic holes appear during the series as well. This is one of those series that gives off the feeling the writer may be unfamiliar with these kinds of games and randomly decided to write about one.

There isn't much detail. There's no plot, and the action is painfully weak. However, it's a nice break from reading more serious and dramatic series. It's just a casual easy read. Nothing spectacular, nothing hilarious, nothing heart-pounding. <<less

I was so disappointed with this novel. This novel has no plot, purpose, or drive to push keep it going. VRMMO elements could have been swapped for any other non-violent setting that lend itself to girls and cute things.
The MC is dull, spineless, and gets dragged around everywhere. Is the MC a boy? A transsexual? Exploring or exploiting expectations of gender. Instead of using gender bender or transsexualism (very different things) as a serious plot device worthy of discussion, it is made ridiculous and a parody. Or, you could just ignore it altogether and view the MC as a female. Then, the MC, who puts in barely any effort becomes super str0ng... and ignores talents. I could go on about why this novel was problems for me, but decide for yourself. For being so cute, it was so so dull. Hours you can’t ever get back.

Im a bit further than stated but, here we go anyways.

This is not your action packed VRMMO badass going around crushing all challengers/challenges. This is a story about a middle brother to an older and younger sister that are hardcore gamers as well as the MC's (middle brother) childhood friend (male friend so no childhood sweetheart). I will also mention that the summary is a little... wrong? its not lying but its not accurate either. I believe a better summary would make it so much easier to write a review... more>> so im gonna do that here.

------------------

Welcome to Only Sense Online! A VRMMORPG, skills are called Sense (s) and range from Active to Passive, Crafting to Combat, Hardcore Gamer to Hobbyist! Pick Senses that align with your thoughts and views and make a build that appeals to Your Senses!

Yun, a High school student and middle brother to two sisters is almost forced into playing OSO (the game) by his sisters, Myu and Shizuka, and childhood friend Takumi. While installing the software and setting up his character, the player scan misidentifies Shun to be a Female instead of male due to his feminine appearance, and due to Myu mentioning how annoying it is to tinker with appearances, ignores his own, not noticing the gender mix-up. How will this effect his game life?

Now that that is out of the way.

Spoiler

Oh My God! The MC is so spineless! Ya alright, I dislike bugs and insects n such too cause they are generally creepy looking and pop up out of no where. This dude almost drops a deuce (poops) and tries to flee seeing a giant Centipede. He freaks out over ghosts and horror stuff to the point of going fetal position and muttering to himself at one point in the story. Hes the House Husband #1 Candidate cause he does the cooking and cleaning for his little sister, cause shes a hopeless gamer girl, well least shes cute *eye roll*. There are a lot of jokes centered on the MC being a female in the game which honestly seems to be the only reason it happened. As the story progresses, the MC seems to act more and more feminine which is honestly depressing.

Look, im all for a character with what people thought to be sh*t skills being useful to parties and can somewhat solo successfully albeit on lower level monsters, as well as being a crafter. I have no issues with MOST choices made in this book... the ones I do have issues with...

MC turning into a female yet nothing really happens but lots of "funny?" situations mainly revolving around his best friend.

The MC is a crafter that can craft potions, accessories, food and other odds and ends... yet even in Volume 7 only has 2/10 equipped accessories..... not sure if the author hates the MC or not just on this point alone.

The MC only equips armor in 4 of 6 equipment slots... not sure what one of the equipment slots is but the MC doesnt have a hat or tiara or anything in the headgear slot that could bolster stats (for crafting or hunting!!!), think the author hates the MC by now.

The author has little to no Gamer knowledge yet managed to write a decent book... just kinda pisses me off. The reason I say that though is because iv yet to run into an MMORPG that has equipment based Stats where not wearing a full set of equipment allows you to play properly (except in crafting for a lot... most games kinda ignore their own crafting mechanics 90% of the time... or in P2W games, its a RMT trap). Also the author doesnt know some/alot of Gamer terms and slang, as witnessed by mostly ignoring the possible usage by having the MC completely ignorant and not learning like any of it.

Finally its the fact that the MC somehow manages to get dragged into what would be current Peak Game (end-game seen as being current top tier due to not actually BEING the endgame [max level] content) yet not getting insulted for lack of damage because hes like THE ONLY person in the game that picked Enchant which is a buff skill. Its his main contribution that no one else could do because no one picked it cause it has short range, unless paired with another skill no one took except the MC. This stems back to the author lacking gamer knowledge but in ANY GAME there would be people taking the Buff Skills no matter how weirdly they had to be used so they could buff their party members for better attack or defense.... the fact that NO ONE ELSE took this skill because some Beta Players said its tr*sh is just s*upid. After people noticed our MC making use of it in Volume 5 to buff large groups of people, im pretty sure it woulda caught SOMEONES attention that its not a dead tr*shy skill! And its not like the MC kept his Sense build a secret, theres like 30 people that know what Senses the dude has! Good things like this dont stay hidden or monopolized by ONE person in MMORPGs!

[collapse]

Anyways I gave it a 4 but wish I could do a 3.5 :/ <<less

Personally I enjoy the novel and the characters, it is good as just a casual novel, slice of life. The things I hate is that the author continuosly putting Taku and the MC together with how MC keeps getting embarassed and the onlookers are also putting them together. Its also annoying how the MC just couldn't put in his head that he's a girl in the game and keep wondering how others called him a girl. All in all, good novel, likeable characters except that fvcker Taku.

Only Sense is a rather okay novel. I personally do not have much of a qualm with the MC or the other characters; they're part of the reason I read up until now. After the first few volumes, however, the story showed no direction. The MC really just meanders around, enjoying a life of crafting and questing, but there's no tension. Usually when there isn't tension they make up with comedy, but that's not really present either. The real life elements of the story are also unexplored; every volume there... more>> usually is a few paragraphs about the MC eating dinner or whatever, but nothing substantial. As a result, the characters seem rather flat. They're likeable, but flat. It's a fairly good time passer, but average in plot and character development. <<less

Its a pretty good series but its alot different then other vrmmo series, the MC is never anywhere near being "OP" and the series reads alot more along the lines of a slice of life with game events popping up and the MC doing whatever he wants.

If you're looking for a typical op/cheat pubstomp series, you won't find it here, instead its alot more casual fun/goofy with the main character simply playing a game however he likes it. There's no real goals or any drama, which in my opinion one... more>> of the biggest charm of the series since it resembles how a beginner in an mmo would act like.

The reviews calling the MC spineless are frankly kind of ridiculous cause he's acting like how a normal human being would act, he doesn't let strangers take advantage of him, going so far as to ban them from his shop after being repeatedly solicited, and while he does run away to hide, on an adventure it's mainly cause he doesn't want to deal with the hassle. Not sure how that makes him "spineless" unless you expected him to just flatout PK everyone who entered his store and asked him to join their guild. <<less

An amusing series, I kind of wish was not dropped by the translator, though it was starting to drag on.

One thing I need to say first, there are some game elements that do not jive with modern MMOs, but that is largely explainable from the game not matching the same development patterns. As for a game with these features to work properly, the things people usually data mine for from games to find out would all need to be done on the fly server side, leaving very little need for... more>> it to be in the client side code.

The story is mostly comedy slice of life, with some action and adventure mixed in. The MC is a casual gamer surrounded by mostly hardcore gaming addicts, who for various reasons got stuck with a genderbent game avatar. The story is mostly the MC being dragged along on adventures by friends and family, but still going about things in their own way.

The game itself feels like it is more a life simulator with fantasy adventure elements, designed to accommodate varied playstyles. There are groups in game who use it solely to experience hobbies that are harder/more expensive in real life, for example one person the MC mets eventually is only playing so they can rock climb whenever they wish.

The biggest problem I have with the series, which considering the age groups of those that meet this is not to unbelievable, is that the beta testers are mostly incompetent yet arrogant idiots. It seems pretty obvious that they mostly just tested a narrow portion of the game, only skimmed the surface, made hasty judgements, and missed a lot of things in the process.

Which since the game devs hid the instructions behind a skill (that most beta testers never picked up, but really should have) and even hid some of the character stats (how equipped skills affect stats) leads to there being a lot of incomplete or missing information in the games community, which seems to take the beta testers "knowledge" as the defacto truth of the game. But all the info is on making min/maxed characters forgetting about what they sacrificed for that, and no info on making balanced builds and the synergies from balanced builds seem to be more important/powerful in the long run. (The MC is a casual player with a balanced build, but actually keeps up with their hardcore gamer friends)

Spoiler

I mean a game about adventure and dungeon exploration and almost no one ever picked up the climbing skill until it was discovered you needed either climbing or flight to progress to a new area, other missing skills that someone in every group should have but are missed due to people focusing on their build a how they fight alone are reading (to decipher hints or information in quests/dungeons, and was needed to unlock the first in game raid boss), swimming, etc.

[collapse]

The MC is a bow using crafter and support mage (buffer/debuffer), but pretty much every skill (called senses in game) the MC chose at the start is considered useless due to beta testers missing missing needed or not immediately obvious synergies. But the synergies are actually amazing and the MC is pretty much the best back line support player in the game.

Spoiler

Bows were unpopular due to combat based beta basically ignoring the crafting senses, not taking the senses to produce more arrows on their own like the mages were for MP, then complaining when they ran out of arrows during an event in the beta. They also had issues with lack of Accuracy, which is improved by the stat bonuses of the crafting skills that make arrows. Basically the beta testers picked up the skills to make the arrows deal the most damage, and did pick up the ones to support being an archer.

The MC also took a vision improving sense to go with being an archer that ends up being a 100% needed piece for being a decent buffer, but was ignored by the beta testers as it did not do much on its own (except extending how far you can clearly see in the dark, which you would think would be useful in a game with a night day cycle and low light environments), as it increases the range of buffs so they can be used on the group in a fight.

Even the crafting senses the MC took are the considered the worst ones, either like mixing to make potions which were plentiful in the beta (but not in game after release) so no one bothered with the sense, or Alchemy that they just missed its biggest feature to improve "shift" matts up or down in grade (there is a farming option you can use to get potion ingredients that you need Alchemy to gets the seeds for), or and it combines arrows into multiple shot ones so you can actually have 200 shots from that quivver of 20 arrows.

Though it seems like some of the skills with the weakest initial effects are the nastiest once leveled up, for example the previous vision sense eventually enables multiple targeting and bullet time, enchanting picks up a time consuming but insanely abusable early on to place buffs and spells in items for later use, including attack spells

It's a really interesting... basically slice of life VRMMO novel, though I'd be ok without the gender bend also includes feminine characteristics, but I guess if he still acted like a male then it would be less interesting and more going into dungeons, so this is a really refreshing novel and it's good if you just think of the protagonist as a female.

A great story, mainly fluffy and light. MC isn’t focused on becoming the “strongest” and has no set goals other than enjoying the game. Think of this story as a laid back slice of life set in VRMMORG. There’s no overarching plot, and don’t expect any super dazzling insights to gameplay. Read as a lighthearted story and you’ll have a very enjoyable read.
