On one spring evening when I was eight years old, I, Erica, Duke of Aurelia’s daughter, realized something.

Huh, I have reincarnated into a fantasy world, haven’t I?

Moreover, it was the romance-fantasy girl game that had the reputation of being bloody, 『Liber Monstrorum ~Phantom Beasts and the Winter Princess~』

The face reflected in the mirror was that of the villainess character of that game.

After repeatedly harassing many characters, including the heroine, she would die without exception, signaling the beginning of an event called the bizarre incident. She was a villain who deserved to get the consequences!

—I absolutely don’t want a destiny like that, though?

No, since I have remembered the memory of my previous life, I will make sure that kind of thing does not happen.

In my previous life, I was harassed immensely by an irrationally angry yandere man who thought I was in love with him.

My cause of death, too, was from being stabbed by another yandere man who I only had talked with a few times…

Now that I have become the haughty villainess Erica, I shouldn’t encounter more misunderstandings like with the previous life’s yandere men anymore, right…?

In that case, it will be fine as long as I deal with the death flags that I may have raised myself.

All right! First of all, before the bizarre incident begins at the Magic Academy, I will strike down the death flags accordingly!!

—Or so I thought, but it seems that I am about to die.

Eeh, how did this happen—!?

Unlike other "Reincarnated into a Game World" or "Transported into Another World" novels that I red so far, this one is my favorite. The MC is not obligate to use the knowledge of the modern past life she lived like a job, hobby or anythings to keep her self apple to live in her new current world. She only want to avoid the death of her reborn character and by that the story become more the adventure fantasy story I usually like. For people who are looking for romance story this one isn't the one for you.

And thanks for the translator. The work you done so far is amazing.

I have looked for reincarnated as Villainess Noble novel. Because I was expecting for romance reverse harem. With some slice of life or comedy. at chapter 10 I begin realized... this novel is an action fantasy... at chapter 18. Only a few romance thing. but their action scene is very enjoyable. if you are looking for Action fantasy (Not a romance, comedy or reverse harem) I very recommend it.

I just found this story the two days ago and I have already caught up to the translations to date. The story is very interesting and the characters all are uniquely developed. I realy like how the characters are not perfect and how the author drops hints about what might play a significant role in later arcs. Can't wait to read more!

I have been keeping up with this novel for a while now and I must say, while it is not perfect, it does hit quite a few good notes! I like the character interactions, and also the growth each of the characters have. It's not major, but its subtle. Characters have flaws (some innate, some due to the environment), we see how they struggle with the expectations (or lack thereof) and how they feel. The "Male Leads" have valid reasons for acting the way they act, each passionate with their... more>> own interests that make them unique from each other.

Erica is an interesting main character. I might have to re-read the early chapters and some of the interludes, but I think it's not that she an 18 year old in an 8 year old body. It's an 8 year old, who had grown up fully as Erica (even her growing up was noted to be... interesting. #no spoilersreadinterlude) before gaining some memories of her previous life. Her actions, principals and character does not just get replaced by a Japanese 18 y.o. So that explains why sometimes... she isn't the brightest. Don't get me wrong, she is immensely talented and bright for her age, but just don't expect adult level, calm decision making 100% of the time. She is genuinely a kind girl who is quite stubborn and brave. Really the admirable character.

Now, personally, where this novel shines to the most is in its world building. It can be tedious reading, but it makes the world come alive! The author has put a lot of effort in making reference to actual things (Egyptian, Greek, etc.) to actually drop hints in the story. Wonderfully descriptive world that isn't an info dump. Good balance.

The plot itself has been quite engaging, you can't quite expect what will happen, but nothing is too bizarre. Romance is definitely slow as it is not the main focus at all right now. Surviving the actually lethal death flags are usually the main focus.

Kudos to the translator for the hard work in both the quality translations, but also the amount of effort it took to explain the references so that we, as the readers, can enjoy the story more. Please give it a shot, at least the first arc! <<less

The novel's fantastical setting is a pleasure to explore, since the world building was clearly well-researched and thought out. Characters' strengths come with weaknesses, and I like that the author included that concept into the settings of the world itself. I also appreciate the effort the author put in in laying out pieces of information, enough to foreshadow, so when on a second read the readers can go "Oh, I remember this part!" and piece the puzzle themselves. The original game settings that this novel is based on is still... more>> a little unclear to me, but the author's choice to withhold information about the game may be a choice for the plot, and not because it was just a second thought setting that's never to be mentioned again. I'd wait until a majority of the novel is out to make judgement though. The pacing looks fine to me. Each chapters have its own importance, so the plot doesn't drag out for so long until it's a bore, or too fast that it would sacrifice character development. Thus, characters in this novel serve their roles well, and their developments are very nice to witness. This is rare to see in an otome story.

Translation is pretty good too, at least better than the translations of other similar-genre novels. The fragmented sentences initially disrupted my flow of reading (since I'm used to the idea-per-paragraph style in typical novels), but I figure it may be due to the Japanese's formatting style itself. The fragments will take some getting used to especially when trying to figure out who said what, but it shouldn't take away all of the enjoyment in reading.

The MC. Whew, where to start? I appreciate the MC's intellect. Thoughtful, dense with romantic advances, but nevertheless a capable character that doesn't give out the "cheat ability" vibe like Isekai or transmigrate stories tend to do. There will be less of internal struggles and psychological developments that can help readers build an emotional attachment to the MC, since this story is built on action and character interactions to drive the plot forward. On this aspect I believe it's more to the readers' MC preference. If you like plot, this novel is it. If you like to see more psychological developments from the MC, this novel is not it.

I enjoy the little snippets of romance, but because our MC is dense, don't expect much more than one-sided hinting. I generally stay away from sweet-diabetes romance that makes little sense, so this novel is a good, warm ginger tea for me. The one-sided love from male MCs are cute to see, sometimes comical. But for the romance aspect I would wait until the majority of the novel comes out since the MCs are still children. Little you can expect aside from crushes and sweet, protective friends at this point in the novel.

This novel is good enough to have high expectations. I look forward to reading the end of this story. Author and translator, hang in there~ <<less

This is not exactly the "action" I was looking for, but the plot, the world build, the characteristics of each part of the continent, etc. they are so great. Each character has their personalities combining into unique one, which makes the story colorful and lively. They are not just simply and flat "tsundere", "gentle", "bright",... like the other novels of the same genres, they have deep traits and those are interesting to read.

The thing I love most is how each region of the empire in the novel has its own history, natural materials and exotic traits. Such as the north is place of strong swordmen, eastern is mages country, alchemists are in western and the south is where dragon knights located. Even the religion is described in details.

Really a very interesting series with a focus on resolving mysteries of the monster/ yandere world. Could have been a light-hearted novel, but with the protagonists pessimistic outlook the novel feels very suspenseful. My only sadness is that there is a harem tag so there isn't likely to be any solid romance plots (only alot of fluff in that department).

This is what I looking for!

I rarely like romance novel/light novel/manga, but this one is different. I really like Klaus's dere-dere reaction. And his sister... sometimes I think that Ann is the older one. Oh I love Erica and her bad luck. She reminds me of Harold Stokes from My Death Flag. I know these two not even similar, but...i don't know, when Erica hit every jackpot on that labyrinth, it always reminds me of him.

Well, thanks so much for translating this one.

This novel was disappointing. I thought that it's a 4.5 rating so it might be good and I like otome game novel but this one doesn't interest me at all. If you like fantasy and the like then maybe this novel is for you. The balance isn't there, I feel like the author try to balance the novel with action and romance but it just feel shallow to me. Hey maybe I am just the problem or I have been reading too much top tier quality and Just being a... more>> picky person. <<less

Deathbound Duke's Daughter (DDD) is a great story that has excellent use of Tropes and DnD knowledge. It has it's instances of NatCritFail and NatCrits that are incorporated smoothly in the story. It even starts out with the MC going into a dungeon and encountering a dragon. It also give pretext for non-DnD players that is disguised as a Sherlock-Watson interaction dialouge.

A good read to recommend. For those who dropped it early, always remember that a story must be given a tinge of suspension of disbelief so that it can... more>> progress forwards. <<less

I really like the setting already since it’s really detailed on how the magic and power in this world is divided. So far I have no complain on the characters since everyone is likeable and the atmosphere feels like Harry Potter x DnD x Made in Abyss. I don’t know if it’s as brutal as Made in Abyss yet but I’ll keep reading.

the translation is 4.5/5
I will crawl and kneel, showering the translation team with love and adoration for the amount of research, efforts and dedication they put out.

I'm gonna say this now, this is a mystery-fantasy type of light novel with a well. The MC is really my preference main character along with the other characters. They really turn out fleshed out and don't just appear in the plot to make the MC OP (as much as possible I tend to avoid these types) or to make the MC shine brighter from the others. What makes Erica one of my favorite character is her personality, she is very strong-wilted and doesn't just operate by strength, but also... more>> by using her brain. Yes, She can be very stubborn most of the times and takes a while or multiple times to learn from her mistakes. Though not everyone will like these qualities, it's fine as everyone has different opinions.

Spoiler

Chloe the well thought to-be heroine is just some kind of bit*h in most isekai stories, actually both Chloe and Erica have great dynamics and are now "partners in crime". Her brother interactions and who could forget her business partner Harold are quite wholesome and I really enjoy. The brother is a siscon and two-faced as expected but he doesn't please her and try to agree in her troublesome plans in some circumstances in which he would be overprotective and hid things for her own safety. The plot also reinforces and builds up the whole novel as most good novels should have. From avoiding multiple death-flags to the sudden shift of the mysteries backstory of Erica's mother to the battle between vampires of Casketia. The main mystery and plot doesn't just stick to one idea of avoiding death-flags for the Villainess Erica from the previous game and it's multiple goals can sometimes overlap each other in some situations depending on the situation. I know I didn't mention everything, only important info on characters and how the plot is so it's best to read the other reviews if you need more infos.

Overall, this is a very interesting novel which I definitely enjoy. There might be some cases of damsel-in-distress in the first and second volumes but that's where character development is for and just wait until the story progresses. The plot is what intrigues me the most and I am really hoping to have a satisfying end in arc 6 (I'm not getting my hopes high yet I still want to XD).

(BTW there are rarely any romance progression before arc 5 because this isn't the main highlight of the story. If you are looking for some, there are other great light novels out there.) <<less

Yet another one of the isekaied into a villainous princess/ duke's daughter, noble etc story. Lead embodies typical Mary Sue oblivious MC, blindly rushing to her own death without valuing her own life despite literally knowing her 'death flags' and comes out of troubles by means of plot armors. Nothing egregious compared to other story of the same type, but not much care is made to justify mc's logic, such the paper thin reasoning of choosing to dungeon dive instead of trying to find help. First arce starts with her... more>> trying to rescue a love interest who might or might not kill her in the future solo, instead of trying to dispel the illusion the kid cast and contact literally the most powerful person in the duchy (her dad) to form rescue party to look for the extremely important guest who is another high ranking nobility. Instead, she had enough prep/plot armor to go deeper than her extremely accomplished older brother in the dungeon for this rescue mission, but not find a way to contact her own extremely accomplished noble father in her own residence. Of course she was hit with a death flag midway the arc, and of course it was but a minor annoyance thanks to plot armor and the mc's self sacrificial behaviours. Once I read the literal same behaviour pan out in the second arc, I decided to drop the series realising that like other stories of the same genre, the same clichéd and illogical behaviour is going to play out to get her to be rescued by domineering male love interest one by one. The writing and translation itself isn't bad, just the normal frustrating Japanese webnovel style of disjointed singular sentences, thought process and dialogues, rarely forming paragraphs andmaking it a very disjointed reading for someone used to western style writing or translation.

Overall an interesting world building let down by clichéd mediocre story and nonsensical character behaviours. <<less

I don't normally like to give 5 stars to a story, but I've really enjoyed this one so far. Like with anything, it has its ups and downs, but overall it's one of the best ones I've read from NU. These pros/cons/neutrals are based on my opinion after having caught up to most of the raws (I'll try not to really spoil anything so if you decide to read this, you can get the same enjoyment that I did).

Pros

Spoiler
    • World Building - there's actually a lot of lore, history, culture included in the story. The magic system in the world is actually quite complicated but its diversity makes it a lot more interesting than something you might find in a typical magical RPG type of setting. There's also a lot of history involved in how the current continent came to be and historical figures from the past still play a part in the present. It's quite realistic to see how the stories have twisted over time and there can be multiple variations of the same story.
    • Butterfly Effect - The MC's goal is to overcome all her death flags (according to the otome game). However, as we the readers progress through the arcs, we really see how her actions/outcomes to the death flag events have really changed the scenarios. The MC does make sure to point out some of them later on, as she makes these realizations herself.
    • Complexity of characters - While some characters are more well-written than others, and even the better ones could have been done better, compared to a lot of stories on NU, I think this story really puts in the effort to flesh out characters, their background, their motivation, their growth, their weaknesses, etc.
    • Foreshadowing - Personally, I love stories that foreshadow a lot because I love the pleasant surprise from finding out about it further down the line. This story is packed full of these.
    • Translator & Editors - The team has done a great job with providing detailed footnotes and explanations. If you don't mind, I suggest reading the comments too if you're confused about something, because chances are, someone else has asked the same questions and the translator/editors are pretty good with answering questions or continuing discussions. Also, the character page, glossary and illustration pages are amazing. Thank you for all your hard work!
[collapse]

Cons

Spoiler
  • Writing format - The translations are based on the WN, so the sentence structure is a bit choppy and dialogue can be confusing at times (as characteristic of any WN). If you're expecting proper writing akin to those in a professionally printed book, then you definitely won't find it here. The translator/editors do try their best to make the scenes understandable and succeed for the most part. I acknowledge that some of the confusion can also stem from the fact that Japanese is the original language and a translation into English may not always read as naturally. This is the case for a lot of translated works from Asian languages because of how different English is from them.
  • Obliviousness of the MC - Pretty self-explanatory. This ties in a bit to the unreliable narrator point in the Neutral section. Some obliviousness is usually fine, but I feel that after a certain point, it can be a bit much. I try to read these portions with a sprinkle of suspension in disbelief.
  • Multitude of characters - This is a pro and con for me. Due to how constructed the world is, there's a lot of characters that will pop up. Some stay throughout, some only appear during one arc, and some are only mentioned. I appreciate that the cast of characters is being expanded, but I'm usually pretty bad at remembering who is who so I struggle with this at times. Thus, the characters page is a godsend (if only really minor characters are included too!).
[collapse]

Neutral

Spoiler
  • Unreliable narrator - As the story is mostly written in the MC's POV, we only see what she sees and thinks, especially since the MC did not fully complete the game before she died so she's operating a bit blindly. It might not be as apparent initially, but we do see references to this in future chapters based on what other characters say/how they act. There's even cases where the readers have access to more information than the MC because of s POV change, which definitely adds another layer of complexity to the story telling.
  • Non-romance focused - It's in the background. Since the story isn't complete yet, I'm not sure if anything will ever come from her 2 suitors, but for now, it seems that the MC will remain oblivious and uninterested in romance. I believe this can be somewhat realistic as she's currently only 14 years old in the latest chapters and is more focused on staying alive by defeating the death flags and keeping her friends/family safe.
  • Easter egg references to real life culture & languages - The author uses names from different cultures, like German, French, Welsh, etc. Some stories in the novel world are even based on stories from real life. This point might make the story more amusing to read if you're the type of person that likes to try and find these mentions (the translator and editors do make points for them in the footnotes though, which is a plus).
  • Damsel in distress? - Some other reviews have mentioned this. I didn't really find her so much a damsel in distress. I can understand their opinion though, as she might rely a lot on her friends/family. However, I think this is reasonable for her to do though as she's still trying to familiarize herself with a new world and still growing into her powers. Also, she's just one person and some situations that she faces are impossible/difficult to resolve without aid of others. We do see though that the more she learns and experiences, the more she puts in her own during investigations and fights.
[collapse]

Tldr - If you enjoy a more complex story with lots of world building and foreshadowing, I highly recommend this story and encourage you to read to the end.

Absolutely superb. Seriously, I highly recommend this story. I’ve read a great deal of otome isekai novels, but this stands to be my favorite. Well written characters, tight plot, in-depth world building, and a heart wrenching storyline. No line is wasted; everything happens for a reason. The characters are incredibly personable and loveable; despite it large cast, each character remains to be distinct. The translation is also amazing, serious props to the translator and proofreaders. Even if you typically do not read shoujo/otome stories, please give this a try.

not your typical 'reincarnated into villainess' type of novel. This one feels so fresh bcs it has decent plot and world building. The way reasoning over reincarnation and about different wold is also acceptable (quite legit for me).

romance is not the main focus, but I still hope MC will start to focus on changing her POV over love after everything is done (she has her own reasons and it's legit--for me).

it's surprising that I don't find any plot-hole and the author gives a lot of hint.

rather than shoujo, for me... more>> this novel feels like shounen. <<less

This is a very fun and cute novel. The translator pointed out that it is more of an adventure novel than a romance, and I totally agree; but I prefer action more anyway so I’m happy. Also, so far the main character doesn’t have any ridiculous golden fingers that crush all opponents. Instead, she uses her brains and her friends to get through sticky situations. The author and the translator both have my gratitude and respect. Thank you!

It's interesting, but why does it feel so long and drawn out? Unnecessary dialogue occurs constantly. When fleeing, instead of actually fleeing, they talk for a whole chapter... and even when in battle. Names are called out in almost every sentence (i only ever call people's names when I am saying hello, and even then it's rare to say their name...). 15 chapters in and most of it is only one scenario/scene??? when are they going to finish this.. I am bored already. Not sure if I want to continue... more>> with this -sama this, -sama that, completely unnecessary dialogue. <<less

At first, didn't read it although there are MANY recommendations cause the summery was really off putting and the reviews didn't help much as it didn't really explain why it's good & generally only say it's good.

It's different flavour compared to others in this collection but the quality is superb and the translator summarise the chapter in the author notes in case it's hard to understand, especially in complicated scenerios.

PS. Incomplete review, will update when I'm free
