First and foremost, this is my complete bias as I have read this light novel from beginning to end multiple times. That's simply how much I enjoyed reading it. As almost every review will tell you, the story can be painfully slow at first. But rather than an overpowered MC with some sort of special powers from a past life, we get a fairly ordinary MC whose only dream is to become a scholar to be rich. Instead of a fact-paced light novel where the MC quickly becomes (if not... more>> already) one of the most powerful martial artist, we get to see the ups and downs of the MC and how he slowly progresses to be the strongest while still maintaining his character's core beliefs: his love for money.

Keeping this review simple, I have never laughed like I have reading this joyous work, I have never cried like I have being so engrossed in the story, I have never been so overwhelmed with excitement as I have reading these climaxes on the edge of my seat, and I have never felt so complete finishing a work quite like this, over and over and over again. Point being: the highs will get you, the lows will get you, and if it isn't your cup of tea, that's okay as it can be a little tough to get into at first (or most of it altogether for some). But for those with the patience to stick thru it, I promise you it is well worth the read. <<less

Im new to xianxia novels and Chinese novels in general, so If your are wondering if you should read this novel, don't look ash this comment. But anyways as a new reader I loved this novel though I can understand it is very vanilla, with an OP MC who eventually becomes a god. If you like novels with an OP MC then read this if you don't then I would highly advice not reading this novel, but then it always up to you.

Maybe it is the fact that this was the first web novel I ever read but it has been ranked first in mind out of the many different novels I have read. This might be due to nostalgia but it is seems as though this is the *only* novel that seems to have the protagonist actually reach the peak of cultivation.

Also the various twists and turns made me feel like reading it was actually fun instead of a chore. In total it is a good read that should be read to the end.

One of the best Novels I've read so far. Er Gen is definitely an amazing author, and the MC of this novel, Meng Hao, was amazingly developed, seeing his stingy personality never gets you bored and both in battles and on the universe/cultivaion development I didn't find any loopholes worth mentioning. Be it overcoing the Tribulations, concocting medicines or even making tests, the way that Er Gen picks you up so ou get excited reading it is nuts oO

A novel that I reaally recommend, I'm even translating it to portuguese... more>> now xD <<less

This novel is a must read, sure it ain't perfect and there were tons of plot holes throughout the story.

But this is a novel worth reading, the synopsis doesn't do justice so don't get fooled by it, it ain't that full of "scholarship" they used to describe it on ww/QIdcks.

I am really disappointed with this novel. It was one of the first Chinese novels that I read. Even though the story started slowly, it was good after few chapters. But the novel has so much garbage. Unnecessary killings, Author's effort to portray the MC as some one who has good morals, Pill Shit, also Numbers. Author found a good way to increase the number of chapters, by saying that MC had awakened 20 meridians in first chapter, 50 meridians in second chapter, Why dont the author just say how many ? Even with all this I was really patient , since I thought the MC will become he strongest at the end. My greatest disappointment with this novel is the end. MC goes through all that loneliness and the pain of losing his loved ones just to kill a f**king clone of main Villain.I think the author realized that if he proceed with this repetitive shit, he may not have any readers for his next novel.

Amazing. I want to rate this as more than 5/5. Maybe 10/5. Yes this is not perfect. The romance is meh but this has so many good points. I reread this and think about some of the ideas again and again. Well worth the read.

I truly enjoyed this series, albeit I burned myself out at times while binge reading it. There are moments and arcs that I fell in love with, some arcs that were alright, and other arcs and chapters that seemed to have been wasted. There is a big war that happens, and like all other wars I've read (Naruto, Skyfire Avenue, Bleach, SAO, Naruto a second time because no one important dies), I really hate it when it happens. I hate it mainly because nothing really significant happens, and when something... more>> does happen, it takes a long time to happen because a war is slow. <<less

Fun read. But it escalated quickly on the later chapters, that I found it hard to cope with.

At the beggining, You can feel AWE vibes, although, From what I know. AWE was written after ISSTH. Anyway, the transition of difficulty went from 3-5 (scale from 1-10) to 8-9 really fast in terms of encountering enemies. It was too fast that it felt rushed. That is what I feel.

OVERALL: Very good read! Lots of laugh. Sometimes MC does unexpected things, which adds to the silliness. In a good way.

This story is glorious! Without a doubt this story has flaws. After all you basically no breaks in the story. However this was a grand adventure that I enjoyed, I am satisfied with the ending and I think all my question have been answered. Only wish that main character to have an harem! He had pretty girls left and right and he didn't pick them up! That my only regret!

This is an absolutely great read no a must read the story is a step by step adventure by the protag so at first it feels slow but u just cant help but read the next chapter b4 u realize it you've finished it. Both the action and Meng Hao's character are the great aspects of this novel not to mention the comical relief of lord 5th and lord 3rd haha.

If there was a downside to this it would be the romance that starts out slow but with the characters... more>> type of personalities its negligible. <<less

One of the best martial cultivation novels out there. It puts a new meaning in cultivation and martial arts. Er Gen pieces together words so perfectly, and even though some may say it was way to slow paced I think otherwise. We got to see a Meng Hao who grew from a lowly scholar into someone who was able to control the mountain and seas with a flip of a hand. The relationships he builds with lots of people over the course of the story was beautiful, and even the smallest side character was never truly forgotten. I Shall Seal the Heavens is one of my favorite novels to this day and it would take a lot for another to surpass it.

This is the first web novel I read and first time I ever heard of about Xianxia/Wuxia. This book was recommended to me by a friend who made this book sound really goofy with talking parrot and meat jelly that releases all hell when it opens it's mouth.

When I first began reading the book was so so because I didn't understand cultivating, but I wanted to learn more. Until the end of first book I felt like droping it but after the next book started the whole experience of understanding... more>> cultivation and cultivation world exploded. Cultivation isn't just about things just happening. It's all about pushing forward and persevering.

IMO issth is not about following the story. It is about getting to understand the words xianxia and wuxia. If you truly couldn't enjoy reading issth then xianxia and wuxia aren't genres for you. If you enjoyed the battles but the cultivation parts were boring Wuxia might be the thing for you. If you enjoyed cultivation and medicine concocting then you might enjoy other books from Er Gen, the wrighter of issth.

It was long but I enjoyed every bit of the read, and am currently reading A Will Eternal. It's a lot more light hearted than issth but it doesn't explain cultivation very well so I cannot recommend it if you are looking for an alternative for I shall seal the heavens

(At the begining: Just a man // In the middle: Mountain and Sea // In the end: Heavens and beyond) <<less

This novel would have been a masterpiece if not for the mountain and sea war arc.

Also I really shipped chu yuyan and meng hao. : (Although I am not a rem fan, but I think I can understand how they feel.

It was awesome during his nascent soul stage where he builds up unique souls. And then wreck havoc in black land with his church. I was super hooked at that time.

But soon came the downfall of this novel. Nirvaic rebirth book was so so but then the leaving ninth mountain and the later books were so disappointing. Its as if the author desperately wanted meng hao to be the strongest in the universe.

Still one of the best beside CD and DE.

Best story I have ever read and if you are deciding whether or not to read it, READ IT. ISSTH is one of the best CN Cultivation novels there is and Ergen is one of the best writers. This story is definitely not a time waster, so read it ASAP.

The best novel you will ever find hands down. It combines almost every trope you will find, from revenge, love, filiality and power. ISSTH also has an extremely diligent translator who works very hard and you will be hard pressed to find mistakes in the reading. A new Dao will certainly be found in reading this book and I recommend it to everyone, from those just starting out xianxia to those who have much experience in it.

Loved this novel from start to finish it might be slow at the start but as all great novels, the base must be strong. Meng Haos change from a mortal to a cultivator is in those starting chapters so disregarding them is really wrong, the joyride for the last two years on this rollercoster of a novel made it a lovable read, I'm not gonna give any pros and cons just going to say I loved this novel and I recommend that every fellow daoist read this novel.

Excellent novel. Probably the most perfect novel which tells us the story of a world where laws of physics don't apply. XD

Vut unless you read the whole novel you won't come to appreciate it. Because only towards the end would certain things be explained. This is a world where a 500 year old is considered a child.. Yoy need to consider that while judging this book.

There's a lot of snorting, spitting and vomiting blood as well as cold blooded mu*derers.. In addition you'll get to laugh a lot. But every... more>> arc feels kinda repetitive. That's the only fault I can find.

As for romance the MC likes the only girl that deserves him. <<less

I have to say ISSTH is one of the bests CN out there. It has inspired me to try to read all the connected series by the author.

There are a few little things that are annoying, but compared to other novels it is toned down, ie. The fluff is not as prominent as in other novels. The story moves forward though towards the end the MC starts to get overpowered drastically.

It makes for a good read and I'll be reading to the end.
