I dare say this author is racist.

Well, he is either racist or unfunny. But one things for certain: he is a fool, for if he is racist he really shouldn't let that bleed through into his novel, and if he is unfunny he should at least recognize that before it ruins his novel. As it stands now, the author either went out of his way to incorporate his racism into the novel or went out of his way to add humourless humour. To be honest I don't know which... more>> is worst, someone who falsely believes themselves to be funny or someone who's a racist.

He has the MC reincarnate into the body of a black child. Only then to have the MC's first thought be to use the system to bleach his skin white, which really isn't much of a problem, just slightly strange and wasteful. But then the author adds in the village "hierarchy", which has the villagers whose skin has transformed from black into white be the leaders of the village, and ultimately hold reverence from the lesser villagers, again either a joke without a joke, or some form of racial remark. The author then descends into constant descriptions where the MC is said as looking martial and cool, but only if you are able to overlook his black skin, which then brings back the topic of skin bleaching.

Do keep in mind that while the racism does degrade the novel's quality it really isn't enough to make me drop the novel, there is a much bigger problem that attributes to this novel's terribleness.

Which is the fact that this novel reads like a mushroom fueled trip, the narration is all over the place, the author changes tenses and timelines like a druggy changes needles. One second it's normal narration, the next it's the MC's inner monologue, and then two seconds later, without warning, it's the inner monologuing of a completely different side character, and then the author decides to take you back in time, with no warning or transition, to find out what some random character was thinking at a specific time. Simply put, the author can't write for shit.

Heaven's Will Balancing System really makes me appreciate other Chinese novels, novels I've openly sh*t on, for in comparison to this novel they are truly brilliant: they can actually keep a somewhat straight and readable narrative.

It's a shame too; this novel has one of the more interesting systems I've seen, pretty much about being a saviour to the world.

Alas, unless the author's writing drastically improves I don't think I will be able to stomach this novel.

Chinese 1/10

Ps, ., . I guess I should give props to the translator for changing the skin color from black to dark blue, it was undoubtedly a smart decision. <<less

I'd like to encourage the author by giving it 5 stars. The concept it good. But I think this would be one of those novels that gets abandoned by the author.. Er Gen did that too.. And he gave us some great novels later. Anyway, I don't see any future for this particular novel even though I gave it full marks...
