Picked up by the Protagonist of a Tormented! MC Novel

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

A suffering MC novel—the main character must be forced to suffer, be oppressed until they’re hovering between life and death, dying and living here and there. They can have a golden finger, but before getting it they must pay the price. They can also have beautiful women, but all are snake and scorpion beauties, able to look at but not eat.

“Curse” is just that type of suffering MC novel. The main character Xi Wei, after being forced to experience numerous sufferings, had, at last, become the most powerful, at the same time linking together with the world’s qi and fate. After he was oppressed too miserably, he committed su*cide and buried the entire world with him.

Zeno transmigrated, in the end arriving at “Curse of sh*t motherf*cker”.

Zeno was adopted by the MC, finally becoming the number one person/wife.

Zeno: Help, I don’t want to be destined to be raised by this perverse person!

All living things (wipe away tears): You must rescue this world, ah.

Xi Wei: Come over here.

Ah! It's a great story, even though the elements can be a little dark but it's a fascinating read. I would recommend it!

The MC isn't stuck up or s*upid rather he's actually quite thoughtful of the ML and also considers things before acting as he knows that it will influence the outcome of the novel.

I find the two of the extremely cute, the ML doesn't know himself that he's drawn to the MC and is protective of him. The level of translation for the novel is easy to read and... more>> follow, the translator (thank you so much btw) makes great notes and comments. <<less

You want the true? The protagonists are weak. Truly weak.

The real main characters are the princess Asil and the God of war, who already have a novel on their own. If you can't separate from your previous work, don't make another one until you let go of the one before.

Don't expect action or cool fights, not even a deep plot. Zeno is the only reason I'm finishing this thing.

Shout out to the translators though. They really have a sick ability, is the author who may not be experienced enough.

Pros :

It looks interesting. The MC become the adopted son of ML. ML is distrustful of people but tried his best to take care of MC.

Cons :

The writing is... obnoxious?? I don't know how the writing managed to make me feel bored. There's a lot of tell and not show. It feels flat and just not so enjoyable. It feels like the author scoop a spoon then slam it into your mouth.

Ah nothing hurts more than thinking you stumbled upon a gem and then you find it was only coal. I was so excited for the first half of the story (which started off with childhood), I felt this could be a nice slow burn story that would gradually built up. However, it was not like that at all. After the first half of the story, the development's growth became horribly rushed. After childhood, there were no arcs, but something more akin to sparknotes summary pages. No plot not depth. I... more>> was also frustrated because I had the initial thought the story would follow the initial story line of the book the protagonist fell in, with only slight deters. The novel hinted at it and made it seem like it would happen. But it was the opposite and the story became a jumbled mess. Nothing goes the way you want it to, and not in a good sense.

Additionally the romance wasn't even good. Nothing made me squeal and everything was just so... bland. Plus there was barely any character/setting/plot descriptions, which I value, so I was left stumbling in the dark trying to form an image of my couple and a decent storyline. In short, I think a novel does a good job when it makes you desire stuff out of the plot, and then satisfies your desires. But the novel just made me desire without it satisfying anything, so I'm left with frustration. I'm just really annoyed right now but I don't recommend this novel. The ending is ok but the middle parts weren't it for me. Though I do very graciously thank the translators for their hard work.

  • Edit: I hate the development of this novel past 80 chapters. It honestly feels like not-necessary drama to me.
    Spoiler

I hate it the MOST when MCs do sh*t for no reason and think they're doing it for the good of the ML when there was obviously a better alternative. Stuff took a "War Prisoner" (a novel of yall havent read it) turn and I HATE IT.

    [collapse]
God I didn't know the MC's IQ diminished along with the novel's value. Damn I'm seething. Just insert the Cardi B "what was the reason" audio in here smh.
  • Spoiler

double edit: even the angst after the betrayal by the MC was disappointing and s*upid lmao. Hate how the ML kinda reacted too.

Like many transmigration novels, MC read the ending of a BE novel before transmigrating into a character who is subsequently adopted by a young ML. As ML's #1 fan, MC decides to change ML's fate and crashes through the walls of the suspicious and distrusting ML's heart.

It's not exactly clear what type of relationship MC and ML have at the end, as they started off in a complicated father/son relationship that turned into a possession. It's implied that they likely had a trusting relationship later on, but whether it's an... more>> equal relationship is a mystery. This novel was actually pretty cute and told a complete story, although the pacing was a little strange at times. Unfortunately, it is not an uncommon problem for novels to start off slow before taking off like a bullet train. That is exactly what happened in this novel, where the first half was devoted to MC and ML's early life, while the second half consisted of several time skips.

The characterizations were passable, but not great. Many side characters found themselves staying true to their names as they were well and truly sidelined. The ending was a bit convoluted, and I wish there were more extras. Alas, the author left many things open for interpretation.

Spoiler

MC discovered where his father's family is from, but his identity wasn't explored. Additionally, it's revealed that the Earth and the world of the novel are separate worlds, and that the author is dimensional traveler with powers of foresight who wrote the worst ending possible for the novel world.

Rating:

4.5 stars because of its unique qualities and good translation; but somewhat weak plot and worldbuilding.

Summary:

... more>> Zeno is a diehard fan of tragedy-stallion novel -- where the male protagonist is surrounded by "golden finger" cheats, harem, and "younger brothers" -- but experiences an inordinate amount of suffering and betrayal. In the original story, he's betrayed by all of his so-called friends and lovers, and decides on mutual destruction in the end.

For no apparent reason, Zeno is suddenly transported into the world of the book, but years before the actual story starts. And thus a new story unfolds, in which the male protagonist is a cold-hearted beggar child, and the transmigrator is a weak baby determined to prove his fanboy loyalty.

Unique Qualitites:

  • For the first 3 books, Xi Wei and Xeno are just weak children trying to survive in a cruel world. The story takes precedence, and there is barely even a mention of romance until book 5. So if you're hoping for BL, just know that this is a slow-burner.
  • This is set in a fantasy xuanhuan world, but there is very little action. Most of the fight scenes are actually skipped over. Instead, the author focuses more on the main characters and mystery plot.
  • The two main characters are NOT over-powered at all. In fact, they are extremely under-powered and weak for at least the first 5 books. They are ALWAYS weaker than someone. This ties into why they have such weird personalities (the male lead being incredibly cold and untrusting, and the transmigrator being extremely obedient, and both being extremely simple and straightforward) -- it's all because of the survival mindset.
  • The romance, though late, is believable because of how slow it is. The characters are rational about it, too.
  • This novel has a different vibe than most BL novels. It's sort of a mix of enduring, depressing, struggling, slice-of-life, with a little bit of humor, and endearing main characters. I think that actually makes the book more interesting to read.
TL;DR:

If you want to read a story about two weak, extremely hard-working, children (one who knows the future and one who is destined to become the main character), overturning "flags" and slowly unraveling a mystery in a fantasy world, with a very slow-burning BL romance in the end, give this a try. <<less

Unique Start. Not Overpowered from beginning.

The power of plot foresight was mess from the beginning so the only knowledge the M.C had are the basic things like items and character names.

MC is so meng combined with a facial paralyzed ML.

The start is quite tragic but author to keep the story interesting despite the slow development.

Keep up the good work and wish for more updates.

This had the potential to be one of the best but lacked because of uneven pacing and rushed ending. The first part seemed so slow in comparison to the later parts of the story. Still I don't deny I enjoyed reading it.
Spoiler

MC betraying ML seemed so unnecessary and just forced by author. There was really no need for that. You could say deep down ML was weary of MC but didn't they just come to terms with it just before that in the story. Why the need to recycle that same thing again. And I don't want Uncle Asil as the plot armor for MC sigh.

[collapse]
I was hoping for more detailed adventures but author didn't deliver that. I thought the author lost the enthusiasm for this story compared to what they had in the beginning. I would normally rate it 3 stars but gave extra for the translation team.

The beginning was good. It really hooked me although I kept wondering how the romance will be tackled.

For reference, the ML was 11 years old and essentially adopted the MC who's probably less than 5 months old. He hasn't even have teeth yet. But MC is a full-grown adult inside a baby's body. ML also grew up in a place where a lot of misdeeds are gone so he's definitely messed up according to the author.

I really like the concept of the story. But it feels rushed towards the end.... more>> A lot of the stuff seemed forced. The characters, especially the MC seemed to have ooc towards the end.

The latter half was almost unbearable for me.

In my opinion, the MC has a major flaw. He's too concerned about the novel. At the beginning it was fine. But he made a questionable decision. It was probably written to force the ML to have a yandere mode. It was badly written. Even I, a yandere enthusiast, didn't like it.

Overall, I agree with the review of Staringatast.

The ML was painted in a bad light but I think the MC is the one in the wrong. Why betray someone who trusts you? To force out and "resolve" issues? Lol. Dumb move.

Also the extras are worthless. <<less

My final rating is 3.5 stars. The final chapter was pretty good, so I decided to bump the score up a bit.

The protagonists' lives were distressing as f*ck in volumes 1-2. The original author was incredibly harsh to their main character; it felt like outright abuse. My stomach ached reading the early volumes, and my brain hurt reading the final one. sigh, what can we do when the children were just too young and helpless?

On a positive note, one of the novel's strengths was also the fact that both the... more>> MC and the ML weren't omnipotent. Most of the time, they were struggling to survive and fend for their little lives. The background obtained from the original story was more or less useless, and their golden finger weren't that strong to the point it was considered cheating as in many other transmigration novels.

As for the characters, well, unfortunately, I don't like any of them. Their personalities were too problematic. Although I had good impression towards the MC and the ML at first, I lost my affection for them in vol.5, which is a bit sorry because I really wanted to like them, especially the ML.

Honestly, considering the circumstances he grew up in, the ML was good enough not to rob and kill for a living, yet he even adopted a huge burden—an infant MC. 🥺 No matter of what people say, to me, he is a good child, and my heart will always ache for him.
Spoiler

by the way, you don't expect a kid who could kill without blinking his eyes at the age of 8 to have high moral ground, do you? Given his past, the current ML, who could love and live, was already a blessing to this world. Who cares whether it's improper for him to be with a child he raised. 🤷‍♀️

[collapse]

In fact, I quite enjoyed volumes 1–4. It's just that I had to grit my teeth to get through the rest of the story, and my enthusiasm waned along the way. I couldn't keep up with the story's progression, as well as the MC's thought and reasoning at all, and this was suffocating.
Spoiler

why provoke the ML without giving an explanation when there was clearly a chance to make the situation not so dire?

why bet with 1/10000 probability when he knew the ML's bottom line so well, and he could just chose to fulfill ML's sense of security gradually over times instead of resorting to this extreme measure? I don't get it. To me, betrayal was betrayal, no matter the reason.

Besides, what's wrong with the ML couldn't trust someone wholeheartedly without reservation? I couldn't do that either.

[collapse]
I really hated it when a character created an unnecessary misunderstanding for nonsensical reason. Like seriously, I had no doubt they were each other's most important person in the world, but I was not convinced that this was actually real love. <<less

First of all, I would like to say that I love the author's work, it's pretty good in some aspects, especially with how they try to juggle Xi Wei's issues, Earl Duin and Lori, Master Clark, Suji, Xia An, Xia Zuo, Asil and Thunder but everything else to me starts and ends there. I am close to finishing this: Volume 5, Chapter 2. However, I find it extremely difficult, tiring even to try and finish it.

The characters that I have liked are gone with their roles done with only two... more>> (Suji and Xi Wei, maybe even Xia Zuo and Asil) left behind, yet I am so scared to see the outcome. I have had characters, main characters that I have hated but I have never resented, despised a character like Zeno himself. It's not for the so-called butterfly effect he says or thinks he's created, it's a pure hatred for him, his character and person alone.

Spoiler

Zeno is so despicable, an abomination that I wished, wished Xi Wei never met him or that he even transmigrated in the novel in the first place, staying as an obsessed fan far beyond reaching Xi Wei's world. He is everything I hated about transmigrated MCs and yet, has been able to push my buttons so much that I don't care whether he realizes his mistake too late like he always does or apologies with his head bowed down, I'd rather have had him woke up the next morning in his apartment than ever waking up as that baby.

I get where he is coming from, wanting to stick to Xi Wei like glue all the time thanks to knowing that he is the protagonist and he is just a baby. But I hate him for being an obsessed fan, being borderline toxic and creepy, for that straight man mentality, that savior ideal and for how the author joins him in entrapping Xi Wei and everyone to fit their molds. I can't even put into words all the little things he's thought, done or even said.

[collapse]

Another problem to this novel is the recurring and internalized h*mophobia or just slight aversion to any queer coded character, ironically coming from the main character himself. I doubt the whole of Hong Yue isn't open-minded, even if the author wrote it as such, it's a real world that we as readers experience and from the narrow and little given bits we do know about its world. Even though Zeno said it himself, I still doubt it.

Observed is a better given feeling to the experience because like one of the reviews have said, the chapters are played as an episodic. It's jarring for me, but slowly I did got a hang of it. Though it's difficult to be fully emerged into the world as the story goes on but it's good so far. Aside from Zeno's dreadful character and how the story is slowly playing out, I like the story.

Perhaps my opinion will change when I read the next last chapters to the extras, but according to some reviews that seems unlikely to happen. I'll come back to this in a short while, I think I really need a break from this story. <<less

Oddly enough it reminds me of Reborn Into a Slash Game. I dropped The Reader & Protagonist so I can't really make comparisons, but judging from the rec upvotes, it holds some similarities. This novel won't be everyone's cup of tea, obviously. The premise isn't anything new: MC transmigrates into a novel's world & due to circumstances, falls under the ML's care. Tbh I got baited with the "childcare" tag but I didn't expect this kind of ride.

The setting is different from my usual modern or cultivation novels; it's fantasy!... more>> Probably the reason why I'm reminded of Reborn Into a Slash Game when reading. But aside from the similar setting, I personally think that both MLs also mirror each other. Is it the ice-cold persona? The dark, cruel nature? Altho Reborn's ML is far more on the doting side of the spectrum. I'm getting off topic lmaoo... I'll just simplify this review:

  • Decent world-building, substantial plot. Execution kinda rubbish; very plot-holey. I can close my eyes to SOME holes, but others are too blatantly obvious for me to even ignore. Ending abrupt; some questions left unanswered.
  • An MC that isn't actually naive? Altho his train of thoughts leave me in a state of wonder on occasion
  • The CP is NOT IDEAL. Toxic? No. But is it healthy? HAHAHA NO. ML is deeply scarred & his trauma leads him to wear an ice-shield 24/7. He doesn't believe in love & if you cross him, he'll cut off your head in a heartbeat. He even said, "There are no 3 views in my worldviews" or some reiteration like that- the guy lives thru survival instincts & could care less about anything or anyone. BUT MC (thru the beautiful device that is plot armor) IS DIFFERENT. MC teaches him how to feel, what it means to shoulder another person, what matters most than just basic survival. But the path to realizing his inner feelings is very steep & that's what people have trouble with in this novel.
  • Yes there's noncon/dubcon, so tread carefully
  • It's pretty gritty, especially in the beginning with two children scavenging what they can for food. Poverty is harsh, let alone poverty on a magical continent plagued by demons & monsters
  • DID I LIKE IT? That should be the most important question tbh. Only when ML started thinking about MC's bu*t feeling good to the touch. I could care less about the plot; I was trying to eat some dog food but it was pretty scarce. Very much a slow burn but the dog food given was moderately spicy. Wish there was more, but the extras are making me weep with disappointment

This is probably the most complete read I've enjoyed in a while *cough* a week *cough*

I don't know how to write this review without gushing over every single point and spoiling the whole novel... so, I'll try to keep it brief.

Starting this novel, I had no expectations. Okay, maybe I had expected it to be like every other transmigration cultivation BL where MC manages to prevent ML from blackening and destroying the world. But... how do you prevent an already blackened ML from blackening?? ML is deathly insecure and has... more>> seen the evils of human nature. He was pretty much born in it. This novel is definitely not as light or comedic as some of the other titles available on NU.

This novel focused mostly on MC and ML's path of growing up and working on their wonky relationship + trust. It was really interesting to read, honestly. MC wholeheartedly depends on and trusts ML due to his book knowledge, that it's almost scarily obsessive and makes you question if this is going to be a double yandere pair. The early portion of the novel where it follows MC and ML growing up as street urchins is a little mundane, more slice of life with life being really tough to hold onto. MC, acting as the model baby, and ML, the distrustful beggar. This was probably the lightest part of the novel?? As the story unfolded and more unmentioned novel background gets revealed, the volumes fly by and before I knew it, it was Volume 5 and near the end. Even until the almost end of the main story, ML's distrust prevails over all. MC may have been raised by him with his own hands, but even ML never realised how he hadn't put all of his trust into MC.

The romance was slow, but justifiable (refer to ML's personality and you can see why). It was at a perfect pace for our very faithful MC and distrustful ML. I quite enjoyed both of their moments of realisations that crap, I've fallen in love moment. ML recognises his possessiveness of MC does not equate to love, and so does MC. MC works hard and pulls a drastic stunt to make their stagnant possessive relationship into a more equal direction.

The ending is truly the happiest end ever achieved (for a transmigration cultivation BL) in my reading list. As our MC said in the final chapters of the main story, he opened up ML's Pandora Box and made him face his fears. Now, there's nothing that can scare them and tear them apart besides themselves... and they're both obsessed with each other so that's never happening :> I was honestly not optimistic for them since I've read a few cultivation BL with possessive MLs and their happy ends always subtly feel a little weak, like MC gave in because ML is too strong to go against or there's some minor Stockholm's going on. ML is agonisingly insecure and distrustful of literally everyone, little black room level of distrust. MC is obsessively loyal to ML (years of constantly following the novel contributes greatly to this fact) so, to be fair, MC isn't quite normal in the head either. They're truly a perfect match together and can have a healthier relationship after MC's big stunt
Spoiler

aka the big betrayal but hey, at least ML finds out that MC wasn't intending to actually betray him for something small like a mere ring, and did this drastic move to help ML get the Stone of Destiny.

[collapse]

Side characters unfortunately suffer being wallpapers while MC and ML shape up, but I think it was a good move. The focus was wholly on our two boys journeying together and discovering the meaning of trust and love. It was great. I don't know what I'm typing anymore. Just read this novel, pls.

The extras were wonderful! Extra 1 was amusing with their cultivation world developing a forum, and in Extra 2, we learn about the novel world's author! and ML learns that MC's soul is not of this world and papapa's the truth out of him in the end lol I especially loved Extra 3 where MC and ML arrive in the modern world aka MC's original world.

Overall, this review was not brief at all and the novel is probably one of the best I've read so far :> I read in one of the author's notes that there's another novel sharing the same universe, telling the story of Asil and Xia Zuo. Might wrestle with MTL once I've recovered from this gem :'D <<less

At first I didn’t really like this novel because it was a slow-burn and there wasn’t much romantic development. A good chunk of the novel is abt the ML raising the MC, but then the plot sucks you in and you cant stop reading.

I read this all in a day and it’s definitely a good novel. I will agree with other comments that the ending wasn’t amazing, but I will say that it was definitely a memorable one. The ending wasn’t your typical happy ending and it gets me in... more>> my feels. I always come back to reread the ending somehow. I wish the author wrote better extras so we could see more of their life together. Either way I would def read the novel, just go and read it. Now don't get me wrong, at the beginning I really enjoyed this novel. I liked the pacing at the start and thought the dynamic between the MC and ML was sweet and wholesome. The time skips seemed natural and although there were a few loose ends and plot holes, nothing too distracting. However, I am really unsatisfied with the ending.

Spoiler

Basically the MC decides the 'fake betray' the ML to like help heal his trauma and untrusting personality??? I mainly skimmed past the last few chapters because I was a bit confused and uncomfortable. Like I get that because of his paranoia the ML is unwilling to rush into the relationship with the MC but like can't they just idk slowly heal it overtime instead of resulting to shock therapy??? I understand that the MC felt that getting the ML to face his fears head-on and overcome them was the best solution, and although I do get the thought process... the ending just wasn't for me I think it could have been handled differently. (especially the 'r*pe me, then kill me' part) Some people may like the ending but this is just my opinion.

[collapse]

I think the MC is pretty cute, and his interactions with the ML are also cute, however, it seems like his IQ kinda drops at the end of the novel. And he's pretty much overshadowed by the ML, which is understandable since ML is the protagonist of the world.

Overall, I did enjoy the first few volumes of the novel, but the pacing and tying up of loose ends in the last few chapters kinda ruined it for me. QAQ. (also the translators did a wonderful job so props to them! :D) <<less

Ok.

So this is probably not going to top your favorite list for it's excellent writing and moving plot. But it's a solid decent on both those aspects. World building is decidedly poor. You never end up with a solid feel of what happens where and why. The mechanics of how these countries work is mysterious. There were attempts made, but it never quite gelled for me. More on that later.

The translation is top quality.

The first bit where the ML is carefully having family time with the Protagonist is cute and... more>> lovely, but then you hit some time skips and it all gets a bit messy. Some big baddies seem like they're going to be significant, but end up quite the opposite and others become more annoying thorns in your and the ML's side.

There's some seriously agreegious Deus ex machina near the middle.

Spoiler

Anything having to do with Uncle Asil, really. Maybe because he's a literal god.

[collapse]

In the end, you're left with the feeling that the Author had too many ideas and not enough patience or time to execute them.

But I have a different theory; one that ties into how the story ends. I think the Author realised that the way the ML was built prevented plot. He's basically an MC caring robot, unable to form significant responses to side characters. Which is a shame cause the side character have some great potential. He doesn't even stay mad at them, annoyed yes, but not mad, often teaming up with baddies after they do him or the MC harm. He doesn't have enough in him to respond to outside stimulus which leaves him unable to grow as a character. And the Protagonist doesn't have enough autonomy to drive the plot by himself because he was built to be the ML's constant companion.

So the entire end game of the story is forcing character growth on the ML. Literally. That's the MC's entire MO for the end of the series.

Spoiler

The MC realizes that the ML was never going to break character and fall for him romantically unless he could break his shell. Proceeds to plots an elaborate betrayal to break through ML's stubborn lack/fear of emotion and trust. Also this is all framed as if driven by MC's selfish desire to get some. Not a great design choice, but there it is.

[collapse]

The author tries to wrap up the loose ends of those abandoned plots as best as they can, but everything is railroaded to making the ML give a damn.

Because contiguous plot couldn't happen really, the world building suffered.

When they were confined to the first city, it was fine. There were guilds and streets you could and could not go down, authority figures to rail against and places for plot to happen. But once they left the city, that all got a little wibbly wobbly.

I could go on and on about this, but it's best if you just read it yourself. It IS a decent read and the ending is satisfying even if the middle bits aren't. <<less

Okay soooo.

the first half of the book was amazing with a lot of things constantly going on. Things felt well-paced and sometimes (sometimes) some characters actions or motives were a bit feeble. However it was really good. Then towards the end things kind of started rushing a bit and some plot holes became more evident. At around this point I had read the author’s note saying that she kind of just left things at the back of her head and just forgot some things. However she was determined to finish... more>> the novel. I think that’s why things kind of went a little downhill. Then the last few chapters really made me scream”Huh!? Author what the Heck are you doing!!??”. But thankfully the final chapter helped clear out Zeno’s motives and actions. I think because the author kind of lost passion but forced herself to finish, it caused some later chapters to suffer and it didn’t really help explain well why Zeno did what he did. I haven’t read anything with an ending like this (closest example is ssvs).
Spoiler

By that I mean an ending that shows characters showing their deepest faults (unable to place trust in others) and finally having Both characters unmask their true selfs with bad parts present.

[collapse]
Nothing of a sugar coated ending of they lived happily ever after, but they learned to love whole heartily and live towards getting that happy ending.

so basically I gave it’s 4/5 because later chapters did suffer with pacing and Some plot holes.
Spoiler

What happened to helping xia an become king? What happened with the Demon king and shadow race wanting to catch Zeno? Did they give up? What exactly did Hua Li want to do if she met Asil? (Did they even meet?) what about the eradication of the demons?I thought we was gonna resolve these matters and not just leave them for the reader to decide! Maybe things will clear up since there are 3 extras left but who knows!

[collapse]

um help I can’t change the rating? Just know it’s a 4/5!!! Kay thank you so much for reading! <<less

So...I dunno. I really like the slow burn, but the ML is a bit TOO cold. To be fair, that's the whole point of the story, but I'm still very much unconvinced that what he feels for the MC is love. I agree with his earlier assumption, he's just possessive judging by his actions in the last couple chapters, otherwise he would've ... more>>

investigated the MC's 'betrayal' more seriously from the start. His lack of belief in him speaks volumes. Did he really think he just got lucky when he gained a platinum finger after the incident without doing anything? How s*upid!

Speaking of that last point,

the MC is pretty s*upid at the end, too. I liked him for the most part, and understood his and the ML's dynamic completely, until it got to the last few chapters and he decided 'betraying' the ML was going to heal his emotional distress in some way. What s*upid logic was that? He not only caused himself permanent injury, he hurt the one he loved physically and mentally, blackening him in the process. He didn't even try to find a better way, besides ONE cheap attempt that he was half successful with. If he'd continued seducing, it was pretty frickin' clear the ML would eventually break away from his past trauma. The whole drama was completely unnecessary, the decision to cause it was unrealistic, and the heartache it caused me reading about these two characters I loved hurting each other was nonexistent. It almost felt like I switched the slightly heartwarming story about a coldhearted ML's shell being slowly worn away by the meng of the cute MC got switched with a fanfiction an edgelord teen wrote solely for the sake of angst. Then, before I felt the story redeemed itself at all for the unnecessary, last minute drama, it ended. Boo.

[collapse]

Tl;dr, it was a great story that I very much enjoyed reading, until the end, where unnecessary things happened for s*upid reasons, and as I am unreconciled with that ending, I can only dock a star from the five stars I was originally going to give it. <<less

I've always had mixed feelings throughout the whole story.

I like the fact that Zeno transmigrated into a body of the baby and was given to Xi Wei. I also liked reading their hardships but I think the author focused too much on it.

... more>> There are a total of 5 volumes. The first 3 volumes focused on their hardships as a child and that's okay, really if only the made it into one or two volumes only.

When Xi Wei got the power of the ring, I thought they would somehow have a better life but NO! Their life is still upside down.

When I thought that Xi Wei would finally become strong the story made me disappointed again.

On the 4th volume, Xi Wei finally showed some, I repeat, some possessiveness towards Zeno. I thought it would finally be smooth sailing but then Xi Wei is just so f*cked up that he thought it was just possessiveness and not love.

When 5th volume came, I was like WHAT?! It feels like the story is just beginning, like WTF! This is already the last volume and it felt like the story was just beginning. And the ending was kind of rushed seriously. I bet the author forgot his original plans about this novel.

There was a tagged r*pe and it only happened once because it was what Zeno wanted. I was like, is it even considered r*pe when the MC told the ML to r*pe him?

There are also lot of plotholes everywhere and I'd like to know more about what happened to the side characters. There are still questions in my mind like about Asil and Xia Zuo.

I'd also prefer it if a problem like Zeno going back to Earth arose. Hayssst, oh well.

It was not of the best reads I had, but still kind of fun to read. <<less
