Okay, these people skipping over the main reason why Xue Qingcheng killed the MC......a reason that makes you feel completely bad for her, and understand she had no choice. Yall are pissing me the f*%k off. There had to be things lost in translation for you all reading machine translation to not know the the whole reason she killed him. For all of you deciding not to read this because of her supposed heartlessness that people that have only read the machine-translation seem to feel about her.

Spoiler

In the official translation her whole family including her had a curse put on them by her master that could only be lifted by her master. Her master used her familys lives as blackmail material. She was sent by her master to get close to the MC, she fell in love with him but she still killed the MC because it was the only way to save her whole family.

[collapse]

as for what she did after killing the MC BIG SPOILER

Spoiler

she f*%king kills herself because she couldn't live without the MC.

[collapse]

This is why I dont like reading machine translation. Things always get lost in translation.

As for other problems people have like the MC being too arrogant..... well he was basically almost a god so tell me what god isnt arrogant?

I like the characters, the story is smooth reading, while having drama it doesnt have too much despairing drama since the MC usually wraps problems up really fast, the cultivation of the MC is interesting, and the fights are decent.

This isnt the best story in the world, but for those looking for a nice casual read that can enthral you into the world, as long as you dont mind the web novels length, then you should give it a try. <<less

To be honest this story has alot of flaws, though I find it somewhat interesting and the idea of cultivating in the modern era is to my liking.

Alot of it have been said by other reviewers, not gonna list mine as they are similar, so I just change my review a little here and there.

.... it gets a lil nonsense in certain part (s), for one example, money: its like water, billions Yuan is like just plucking from trees (I dunno the rate for Yuan... more>> but still, billions is alot to me). I still enjoy the drama though, just that at times the arc/plot ended seemingly rushed.

Later when MC and cronies left earth, my interest turn sour after that, the story is full of clichés and darn right all over the place.

Welp dunno how to put this exactly, to me, certain things in RFTIW are truly insane and outrageous and ridiculous but oddly instead of giving up reading I continued, strange ^_^.v <<less

Honestly if you like any of the other novels where it's a cultivator in the modern world, hiding their powers and doing what they want, you will like this novel. The writing is okay and the MC isn't usually an idiot, but his EQ is insanely low, basically he reincarnated at the start of the novel after being betrayed by EVERYONE he loved, apparently didn't realize they all hated his guts.

Only downside of the novel is that the translator has pulled a "oh, real life problems, gg bye" and hasn't... more>> given the novel to another translator or even translated a chapter in 2 months (at this point). Novel is basically dead in the water, avoid unless you have nothing else to read because 140 chapters goes by in an hour or two then you will be stuck with no updates any time soon. <<less

MC says he lived for thousands of years and was killed cuz his girlfriend and his best friend betrayed him.

I was expecting a calm MC cuz he is f*cking matured, a calculative one cuz he got f*cking betrayed, a cool headed one cuz "love" literally killed him......

But what did I get a whimpy ass MC who literally gets pale face cuz his class is about to get changed, goes into daze cuz he saw a beauty, day dreams and mix realities.... and the final straw that snapped me... he finds... more>> a woman who looks like his ex girl who literally killed him!

And what does he do next f*cking kiss her and grope her ass instead like wtf is wrong with this guy.... girl got a pu*sy so who cares about revenge.. f*ck revenge <<less

Well, I manage to keep reading until chap. 436. For a Chinese web novel, that's quite good.

The story is basically about a student who got into an accident and transported to a xianxia world, and then when he dies in that world (betrayed by friends and lover), he returns to his original world with all of his 10, 000 years knowledge of a peak cultivator.

The premise is not bad, not original, but not that bad. The reason I drop this novel is the same reason I drop all of the... more>> countless Chinese web novels that I read before, it's just exaggerated, inconsistent, and illogical.

The author described the MC as a ruthless, smart, decisive, no-nonsense warrior that took great care of his friends and show no mercy to his enemies. But it's just way too ridiculous.

The chapter where I drop the story is when his dorm's friends and some girls found out that the MC is actually filthy rich. So the guy is described as always being on the down-low. But when they are lockout of campus with some girls, he decides to bring them to his house, no, to his mansion. Even though they just decide to spend a night in a hotel, he decides he'll just bring them to his house. And to make sure that no other people know this, he bribes his friends by letting them using his fancy cars and doing all kinds of favors. Let me tell you that these friends of his, he hasn't actually spent more than 3 days total with them, and the girls he only met that day.

How is that on the down-low and not bragging? I don't know, I didn't finish the chapter and just stop reading. <<less

I enjoyed this WN in the beginning; it seemed to have great potential like another WN (Strongest Abandoned Son) that had a similar plot of the MC getting killed in a higher realm and ended up starting over in a lower realm. However, my enjoyment continued to drop as I read on.

Spoiler

What sucks about Returning from the Immortal World is that the story goes into too many details and repeats the same line over and over again; I can't even count how many time Tang Xiu says his goal was to break through the boundary and ascend to the immortal world and silk pants offending him randomly despite the fact that he has gone viral on the internet several times. If you summaries what he has done, the list wouldn't be very long. It takes him 2 years and about 1000 chapters to level up equivalent to Golden Core (Qi>Foundation>Golden Core). Then within 200 chapters after that, he jumps up 5 realm equivalent (Nascent>Soul>Body>Great Ascension>Crossing Tribulation) which only took 3 years. (I've only read up to this point).

[collapse]

The beginning to middle of the story feels really slow and dragged out, like the author is just trying to complete his daily character counts and fills the chapters with unnecessary details or repetitive actions. Then from the middle to end of the story just feels really rushed, he throws in random information and encounters to fill up his various plot holes, as if the author is in a hurry to piece together the ending.

Highly not recommended unless you have a lot of time on your hand. <<less

I usually finish of books/series even if their quality is lacking, but I think this is one of those rare cases where the sooner I drop it the better.

Probably my main problem with the series is that it relies heavily on Tell, don't Show.

The author tells us that the protagonist has lived for 10000 years in another world, but we see someone behaving like a 12-15 year old chuuni taking on that persona. We're told he's awesome in every single way, but we see a petty person steamrolling over anything... more>> he chooses, because this might cultivator doesn't have anything better to do (and seemingly might makes right).

I haven't read further, but if it turned out that only Tang Xiu's knowledge and arrogance returned from the other world that would make more sense, with none of the wisdom that comes with time or practical experience returning.

I don't think TX has even met a woman before, yet alone been in a relationship.

Check out Reverend Insanity instead. The protagonist is only 500 years old before being 'reborn' (and is straight out a villain rather than the wishy washy TX), but the difference in portrayal is night and day. <<less

i read this novel because I read the manhwa and it looks interesting.

but I regret it SO DAMN MUCH, the MC make no sense at all because his vangence and the author keep introducing new chara and forgetting the older.

it is ok I think if the author wanna intoduce new chara but to even make the (important I think) MC's family and heroine not to mentioned it keep forgetting one after the another.

nah, I had tried and give up

This novel is just too messy to read! A storyline that constantly jumps around and makes it impossible for the reader to follow and enjoy. There's no red thread in the storyline and somehow the author also managed to make EVERY character extremely annoying to boot. I should've have stopped reading at ch. 10 as it was really painful getting to ch. 41.

The back story is not bad, and interesting enough. An old monster that returned to earth.

But, The MC is ret*rd, fool and childish. How the heck a 10.000 years old behave like a teenager got a new toy, I mean a super power. Act rashly by fighting barehanded against gun? He clearly have uncountable cultivation methods, did he have not any hiiden weapon techniques.? He cure a severely injured martial artist he just met? Did have amnesia after being betrayed by his lover and best friend then died in their... more>> hands? By not thinking the consequences.

Till far, I can tell the author is still new on this story. The lack depth and understanding on cultivation, pill creation and fighting scene and etc. If the MC is a normal teenager that got sudden cultvation methods maybe the story will be more better. <<less

It almost has potential.

It feels like a poor virg*n wrote it. They are overly obsessed with cars and wealth... like... is having a German car is a big deal?

Half the chapters are: "he's so s*upid" <beats somebody up> "wow, he's so strong." The faceslapping isn't very unique or entertaining, to the point where you can just skip it. The translation is very choppy, especially the dialogue. Tries to have some business/financial political intrigue... but not really. The main character doesn't really resemble a 10K year old monster, more like a... more>> 15 year old.

I really wanted to like it, but even skipping through 50% of the chapters I couldn't advance the plot. <<less

Finally completed it! So here is my opinion:

Pros:

  1. Story is interesting
  2. MC is decisive and cool headed most of the times
  3. Good Revenge
  4. Not boring
Cons:

  1. Rushed ending
  2. After ascending to immortal realm, many characters were forgotten and no development on their part
  3. Many characters were not mentioned in later parts and no conclusions in there
  4. After God realm, MC got 'powerleveled'...
  5. He had so many wives but they were not mentioned after ascension to immortal realm and there was no conclusions regarding them.
  6. Ending conclusions was weird, like forced ending.
Overall it's a good novel which will make you busy till... more>> the end, if you enjoy it. <<less

Enjoyable. However, too much time spent on Earth. Quite a lot of the usual cons in this. Minor plot holes, 1d villians, rushed ending.

The biggest let down is that the biggest battles were summed up in a few words at the end. However, meaningless small battles were shown in chapters.

The pacing of novel went from a tortoise speed for the most part of the novel to nearly the speed of a bullet train by the end. A lot of enjoyable things were lost due to this.

Anyway, an enjoyable read still... more>> somehow. <<less

Zero star rating! Negative rating, if possible.

Really s*upid story, with a bullsh*t MC. He's so arrogant, he can't talk to people normally; yet everyone is just running after him to hold his thigh, not that had helped them, since MC considers everyone wayyyy below him. I don't think people would treat their servants the way he treats his 'friends'. Genius bussinessmen/doctor/martial artist/gamblers everyone just run after him, throwing money at him hoping he would glance at them, and building air castles...

And who can forget the tsundere beauties, all of... more>> them are the same - haughty b*tches but somehow 'cute' on the inside... The villains are again from the same mould, getting into fight with the MC for the littlest thing... Not to mention the peanut gallery - half the chapters are filled with them spouting ridiculous BS and then getting face-slapped... <<less

first of all before I give my scoring of this novel I will rant a bit, this was by no means what I would personally rate as a great novel however this was the most memorable modern day setting cultivation novel to me because even though it has serious flaws in certain areas it also has some things that are heading in the right direction. So if you are into modern day cultivation novels I would recommend giving this one a go.

MC - 0.5 out of 1

Plot - 0.25 out... more>> of 1

Cultivation - 0.5 out of 1

side characters - 0.25 out of 1

fights - 0.25 out of 1

total score - 1.75 out of 5

1) alright so for the MC rating the reason why I gave it.5 was because for the most part the MC pretty much played out the way you would expect based on the background that the author gave the MC, which was a supreme cultivation who was essentially given a second chance in the modern world. The MC abuses his knowledge and basically crushes anyone in the way this should be the norm in fact I think the MC wasn't op enough to demonstrate this edge. I can't believe I have to even write this but the MC is ruthless and subscribes to the law of the jungle mentality this should at this point be a given in these novels but after reading a bunch of modern day cultivation novels apparently this isn't some mc's are just bad sh*t idiots or something.

2) the plot was a big downfall of this novel like many other cultivation novels. I've read so many xuanhuan and xianxia novels at this point I basically have 2 theories as to why the plots is sh*t most of the time. 1 is that the authors are simply incompetent so he can't think of something creative to right, 2 the author things this type of content is what subscribes to his reader base. Either way the plot is shit, and I seriously hope these authors just get weeded out or something. Anyways the plot is sh*t cause the authors fails to be able to write conflicts in the story in a non forced manner. What I mean by this is that they can't create conflict in the novel without using obvious cliches like oh he touched mc's girl, oh he offended MC family, etc to be fair though this happens in 9 out of 10 novels. However there are some redeeming points such as the scarcity of cultivators on earth I really liked this point from the author in a lot of modern day cultivation novels I read the author would always go and say ohh yeah earth is sh*t compared to blah blah blah world and based on that then shouldn't earth be a horrible environment to raise cultivators then there naturally should be a scarcity of them on earth but hold and behold in a lot of novels the author will sh*t out bunches of cultivators as if they are having a fire sale going on.

3) the cultivation is just plain there isn't any ingenuity but at the same time it works and it isn't terribly flawed so yeah not much to say here, also kinda hard to screw this one up you just make up levels that work.

4) side characters, sigh this one was a headache. The side characters are basically 2d cardboard cut outs. They don't feel alive at all, they don't have any individual purposes and thoughts.

5) the fights were kinda meh they weren't descriptive enough. It just feels like oh one side just smashes another side and wham done.

all in all this novel was pretty bad but I will say if we just limit this to the modern day cultivation novels this is actually one of the better ones, the reason why I would recommend this to people who want to read a modern day cultivation novel is because while the novel has some serious gaping holes it also has some really good things going for it. <<less

I'm really bad at writing and explaining stuff and english isnt even my main language but I really want to say this.

The only thing I liked about this novel was the universe, although I didn't read a lot of it I read +200 chapters and I liked the place where everything took place, too bad the author seemed to amateurish, the plot wasn't awful but it wasn't anything worth recommending, what annoyed me were these 3 things (probably more but these were the most annoying, and one is my fault... more>> I guess I didn't read mature and harem in the tags, well it wasn't annoying at first but it looked too forced)

  1. The MC was supposedly an immortal that had lived for 10, 000, he mentioned that a lot on the first episodes and talked how he wouldn't do things such as one night stands and would only jokingly say that to girls, but he kept repeating how he wouldn't do it, y'know because of his bad experiences and stuff, and not only that disinterest attracted girls, which was lame, all beauties that were also smart and talented and had so many guys behind them would somehow fall for him just because of his low EQ?
  2. This was actually going to be the "1) " but I got out of track, he had supposedly lived for 10, 000 years and was at the peak and whatever but he didnt really behave like that, only sometimes, a lot of the times he only behaved like a h**ny teenager.
  3. I'm actually okay with this, and I do agree with it but mentioning
    Spoiler

the nanjing massacre (criticizing japanese), although of course sometimes I get mad at japanese for it but I know it's not even all of them and it wasn't even the modern people so why would he even bring it up

    [collapse]
considering he's an immortal, the MC really didn't sound like someone wise.
This novel seemed more like made to satisfy some people's desires, the MC wasn't wise at all, the plot wasn't that interesting, it had some nice scenes but eh, the MC just went against logic and not in a good way, he would just keep contradicting himself. <<less

The storyline is quite interesting but MC kinda decide to go the long way about it. It makes it really messy and you wonder if he really intends to return to his immortal world in the end. It also makes the story progress veryyyyyy slowly in an artificial way. It's a bit frustrating at times.

I really like OP MCs as long as there is a reason for it, like in this case. Even if sometimes plot armor is quite omnipresent.

There are too many "secondary" characters. This lead to their abandonment... more>> without developing them much even when they have good potential. Or they will just pop out later like "Hey ! I'm the guy from 200 chapters ago, remember ?". Nope, don't remember because MC met 700 more like you in the meantime.

Recently there has been some red flag waving around like some authors like to do. In a "China, the greatest country in the world, is bullied by the whole world because they are jealous of our greatness. Foreigners are all evil" way. Well, I suppose I'm starting to get used to it. Still a turn off thought. I want to read about a badass immortal, not a frustrated nacionalist.

Still I, for some reason, still enjoy to read this novel, hoping he will return to his immortal world someday. Hopefully before I get old and die. <<less
