Transmigrated into a novel after her death, Su Jin has an engagement with Lu Xi, the legendary and unrivaled male protagonist, that was arranged between their families. After the revelation of her identity as the adopted daughter swapped at birth, she had no right to the engagement; that belonged to her sister, the female protagonist. In fear of interfering with the novel’s ending, she avoids him… But why is he ignoring the female protagonist and chasing her instead!

The Perfect Fiancé Code:

1. Support his fiancée

2. Unconditionally support his fiancée

3. Protect his fiancée unconditionally regardless of who or whom is present

Lu Xi felt that he should be able to accomplish this.

Su Jin: QAQ, please don’t do this…. I’m supposed to be the cannon fodder sultry ex-fiancée that you were going to dispose of!

Lu Xi: I have always been waiting for the moment that the 22-year-old Su Jin, you, would finally open her eyes.

If this is the review for the translator, I'm willing to give this a 5/5 review. It's very easy to read in English, there's no awkward grammar or typo. The prose feels eloquent and sophisticated like in the original Chinese even though it seemed hard to translate. They also included sub-notes about the meanings of idioms/sayings mentioned in the story, which shows how much care they give to this series. But unfortunately the review is supposed to be about the series so I give this a way lower score since... more>> it's not up to par with the translator's quality.

As stated above, the prose is eloquent and sophisticated at times (mostly when the author tries to highlight the male lead's awesomeness), to the point of poetic. If we take a chapter and didn't read the rest of the series it might seems like a great series, but unfortunately it's not. As single chapters they do fine, but as a whole series it's doing poorly with the reason I wrote bellow.

The author seems like writing without planning far ahead so the story often feels disjointed because sometimes she just scrapped the whole plot point for another one. For example, the synopsis only relevant for a few earlier chapter and then it's being completely forgotten afterward, it feels like the author running out of ideas and decided to write something else than what she planned before.

The romance, there's no chemistry between the two leads. The author spent more time thinking of how to praise the male lead rather than how to make their interactions engaging. The MC is just a bland girl and the male lead is the perfect boring man, and that's just about it, nothing else.

The side characters, they are treated with utmost disrespect. The author didn't bother to make them believeable living beings, they're just the author's plot device and in universe's mouth piece for her. When the author wanted to state something she might think of "profound", she will make her characters do it even if it means throwing away the whole identity of said characters which have been built up for 50 chapters in illogical way without any foreshadowing (it feels like it's unplanned and abrupt).

The plot twists at the end, it's just she runs out of things to write and tried to spice out her story for one last spurt. It's just so abrupt and forced as an attempt to tie the very loose plot points together in a makeshift manner.

In conclusion, it's a rather bland and disjointed romance but it's very easy to read. But please remember that this is my personal opinion and other people might liking it and having different views than me so do try to read it first since it's a pretty short read.

NB: I think it's better to read this series one chapter at a time and don't binge it. My criticism of the story that it seem disjointed might be abated if you don't read it in one go while still having a very fresh memory of the previous chapter's plots. <<less

The MC is a girl who transmigrates into a novel she reads. The story starts off with the plot of 2 babies being swapped at birth (one rich family, one not rich), but that's really the only cliche part of the story. The MC transmigrates into the character who was raised in the wealthy family, right before she meets the ML. She begins by accepting her 'fate' as a cannon fodder type background character and deigns to stay away from the ML and the original MC, but clearly, the story... more>> doesn't follow the original plot.

This story is looking very promising so far as there are few cliches and no crazy melodrama. There is no huge feud between the two girls (original MC and present MC), no horrible biased parents, and the ML doesn't seem too OP (yet). The translations are very good and the story flows well. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the story! <<less

I personally feel like this was a flop. The way the plot was executed was very cliché and honestly just bad.

For me the way the synopsis sounded I felt that after reading the story it didn't really give it justice. I was waiting for a build up where the ML would fall in love with the FL when she showed her charms, but I didn't expect it to be like that. The story basically disregards any problems with FL and her sister. It's more like "Oh here's what happened to... more>> the original person before the MC transmigrated, but we are totally disregarding the original story line and replace the original MC of the original story with the transmigrated MC who is supposed to be the cannon fodder." This story is just not worth reading in my opinion unless you want a love interest to just fall in love with the MC out of nowhere with no build up or explanation. <<less

This story is sweet, but it fails miserably in many aspects... I never thought that I'd see the phrase "you can't fail if you don't try" in such positive light, but I really think this novel could have been better if it tried less and failed less.

It was probably intended to be 'foreshadowing', but it foreshadowed so well, that there was not a single unexpected thing in the story. Even when the author used cliches that are usually used as an element of surprise, it still failed to be unpredictable.

Other... more>> parts were also done very sloppily. ML had to show his 'ruthless' side (that was justified by his immense protectiveness, of course) to MC, but the way he decided to do it was by
Spoiler

Killing a girl who hired people to kidnap and temporarily trap MC (yes, only trap, not a single hair on her holy head was touched), and also killing her father because 'he would definitely want to get revenge for his daughter being mu*dered'.

[collapse]
I get that it's attractive when a man is ruthless towards others but completely soft and vulnerable in front of their SO, but there are correct ways to do that and this is not one of them.

Another thing that pulled this novel down, were the numerous descriptions. They were probably supposed to be poetical, but ended up being way too long, repetitive and distracting from the plot.

The MC's inner conflict was so shallow, that it was hard to understand why it was present at all. Oh, what pure and wounded soul she is, she had known her hot fiance for a month or two and she only LIKES not LOVES him... She must have had a very troubled past to be so guarded. *roll eyes* Does she really need some kind of personal trauma to not be in love with a guy she just met?

These points above are only some of examples how this novel tries desperately and fails miserably. This story would've been better off as a simple story of a girl slowly falling in love with her fiance.

As for the good points... some moments were cute, I guess? But very similar cute moments are also present in other, more interesting novels. <<less

This story... idk about it. I'm about to spoil the whole story because it was the background of the world that really disappointed me. Although I can say without spoilers that while I normally don't mind the author gushing about how beautiful the MC is or handsome the ML is, in this story it really felt like it was just making up the word count. The MC and ML's outfits were described so many times for what was ultimately very mediocre outfits that had no purpose in being described.

Alright, on... more>> to the spoilers!!

Spoiler

So, the POV character is Su Jin, who transmigrated into this world. She has access to the 'original' plot. This 'perfect fiancee' of hers.... is also a transmigrator, who is patching the effects of her being in this world. But he's a QT agent, called a 'Wish Agent' and he's fulfilling the desires of the original Lu Xi, which was to find true love (after hecking up the engagement badly and basically losing both girls, driving drunk and killing himself).

So... Lu Xi's pursuit is explicitly one of his missions, and a few POV points from him, you can really tell that is what it is. He gently manipulates Su Jin into loving him, and gets frustrated with her older brother when older brother says some things that spook Su Jin into doubting love again. Lu Xi has a plan to game her affections and he even makes a big gamble on risking his own life in order to win it.

Now, Lu Xi actually originates from Su Jin's home reality, where he also fell in love with her, but she wasn't emotionally or psychologically capable/willing to fall in love with anyone. She died, Lu Xi went a bit nuts, and eventually on the edge of death, he was adopted by a transmigration system and spent 1000years doing missions in order to catch up with Su Jin. Ultimately, after risking his life to complete Lu Xi's wish of having a woman fall in love with him, Lu Xi doesn't feel confident in making Su Jin of the home realm fall in love with him, and so he chooses not to have the two of them go back to the original world and they stay in the fantasy realm... which is doomed to freeze up one day and be reabsorbed into the 'real world' as necessary energy.

While this could have been moving, because Su Jin was a lonely orphan in the Real World and in this book world, she has a loving, doting family and a boyfriend... he explicitly chooses to not to move them back because - AGAIN - Lu Xi isn't confident in having Su Jin of the Real World (she would lose her memories of the novel) fall in love with him. It isn't because Su Jin will be happier here - his reason is explicitly that he won't have her.

So yeah, other reviewers have said that the main couple have no chemistry - and that's very correct! They don't! Their relationship is explicitly a QT system mission! Other than Lu Xi being a little nuts for one scene, you really don't feel like he loves her, and since it's made blatant in the text that Su Jin is being manipulated into loving him, you also don't feel like she loves him! All his actions are carefully calculated to please her, and in the end, because she feels slightly more comfortable with Lu Xi, or because he's pretty or whatever, Lu Xi wins the mission. As of chapter 52, Su Jin has no idea that Lu Xi is a transmigrator, let alone that she knew him in the Real World, nor that he has a system.

I Love QT stories and especially QT with 1vs1 romance in them, but the romance is never part of the mission! I feel like this story would have been a lot better if Lu Xi had taken over a different identity and had a different mission to complete while pursuing Su Jin. Even if the truth comes out sometime between chapter 52-59, it's really too late. This relationship is exactly what Su Jin wouldn't have wanted - and the story is right: the human heart is really the most difficult thing to predict.

The novel is the usual cliché type of transmigration where the original ML falls in love with the would-be villainess of the FL of the world. For this world's ML, imo the ML is a bit of a creep with the way he acts but you can never stop the urge of wanting one like him. I've read the spoilers and it seems like there's a reason on why he actually chose Su Jin as his fiancée and why his personality changed ever since their meeting. Looking back at it,... more>> it actually make sense on why his actions seems possessive and a bit rush overtime. The schemes of the characters isn't that deep where drama happens and the usual white flower b*tch appears. Nah, you're thinking too much. So far in where I am, the Orig!FL is so far to my liking. She was actually able to overcome her jealousy and felt empathy towards the Orig!SJ and thus their relationship is very intimate and close. The only thing you have to worry about is the clowns making trouble with their inferiority complex wanting to put on a show and how SJ will sort out LX. Also, the translation is very great and there's barely an mistakes you can find so it's very easy to read it. Thanks for your hard work guys! Love from Yuki~ <<less

5 STAR!

Literally perfect fiance. ML is a yandere. (Honestly, he's a dangerous man and I wouldn't ever want to approach this kind of man with deep thoughts & shrewdness.)
You'll later on understand the reason for his possessive.

Although he have the same tendency for brutality (Yandere), but he'd always treated her as his everything, not letting anything harm her, not even himself!

Best part is: no unnecessary wishy-washy romance! The cannon fodders & green-tea-bit*h actually makes sense!

This is a story that starts out as something and ends up being something else. It had no direction and no plot.

Five stars to the translator for her awesome effort and near-perfect translations. But this story is really bland and makes little sense. The prose and over explanations regarding how beautiful and elegant the FL looks, and how awesome and handsome the ML looks gets to become such an annoyance. Each chapter barely has any meaningful conversation, as in actual words being spoken. Most of all the descriptions are about... more>> how people look and gets tedious for the reader. On top of all that, the main focus of the story shifts so often in regards to the backgrounds of the leads.
Spoiler

I started this thinking its a transmigration story, where the FL gets a new body and new life, only for it to end up being one of those modular worlds story where the ML has been accumulating points to meet up with the FL from the real world after 1000's of years? What kind of bullsh*t is that?

Kept reading until now to see if it picks up, but everything is pretty much smooth sailing throughout, and the characters remain quite bland. Even the most recent plot twist added nothing of interest, so I'm not going to bother finishing the story. The translator has done a fine job; the story is just boring.

I am now questioning my sanity why I keep reading the story despite realizing that my interest slowly deteriorated. Why do I also s*upidly fall for these kinds of novels? Was it the excellent reviews that got me good? I have so many questions! Anyway, I'm praising the translator for doing a wonderful job explaining and translating this novel.

Let's start with the last bits of the synopsis. This is a major spoiler so read at your own risk.
Spoiler

It looks like this was a hint for the upcoming twist. There was nothing grand to it, other than (maybe) the author trying to garner positive traction from the readers. The ML was someone with a system, so it's safe to assume that he has tasks to complete. The author left it vague though, so I'm baffled by what his tasks were. Was it to help the newly transmigrated MC or what? What is the connection of that part of the synopsis to the story?

[collapse]

What's up with the damn character description?
Spoiler

Every single time, without a fail: I read these peach blossom eyes and phoenix eyes. It became too repetitive that heaven forbid we die without reading them. Finally the finale, I thought I can finally be set free but the author really wanted to frustrate me so much because the eye description has yet again entered the chat.

[collapse]

The flow? It was probably poor execution? It was not exciting nor inviting, yet I continued reading. I'm waiting for something major to happen. I don't feel fluffy either. Do you ever sometimes realize that your smile was too wide after reading a novel? That, unfortunately, didn't happen to me here.

At some point, ML asked along the lines to FL if she really thought he was that omnipotent. Well, what do you know? He was! Not only that, the author literally explained what ML had done by using other people's perspectives with poor execution. Maybe this was what made me irked. Being ambiguous and not explaining the plot properly is one thing, but just shoving the explanation to the readers is just completely mind-boggling to me. As previously mentioned, there were no memorable moments; thus, I didn't have that exhilarating feeling from reading a well-written novel. This novel got me fooled! The earlier chapters were definitely interesting because the damn trope shtick was right up my alley. It was so unfortunate to realize that the author does not know how to make the story effectively flow.

Thankfully, the author had a creative outlook on the side characters.
Spoiler

The MC brother's love life was sad but realistic. The original FL was also not some conniving biatch. She was smart and knew her place.

[collapse]

However, I feel bad for the original FL. She became an extra right after ML and MC met. She was just here and there. She deserved better considering her character was not based on a usual trope.

This was not a bad novel per se. I probably expected more because of the reviews. It's the bland narration that killed my interest. I still prevailed and read it till the end which is not a surprise to me now. I tend to coax myself that maybe it will get better, but somehow it's already the end, so it's too late for me to think it didn't really get better. If this is one of your first novels, you might be ok with it or perhaps certain age groups would find this exhilarating.

Actual rating is 2.4. I'm also thankful there were no forced bed scenes here or whatsoever. Just poor execution of story, or maybe the author was confused with the storyline proceedings. <<less

The story is simple, clichè and... tbh, boring, flat. There's no development on building each relationships, it's like author forcefully shoved us "this couple is loving couple, this is harmonious family, true friendship etc". There is almost no 'pulls' that makes me hook to the story, even with dramatic cliche plots *rolleyes*

Actually, there's a certain iffy things that is questionable and some plothole.

Beware of spoilers : ... more>>
Spoiler

Especially, ML. Idk how to say it, his sincerity is doubtful. I don't even really sure what makes him stray from the supposed original story. The reason about 'possibility of other paths' makes me think that he can choose another girl and it'll be alright since it's just a choice he can chose on his whim. This concept makes me think he's just a convenient character which his first love can change according to what the author likes. Maybe his reason over this whole 'changing fate' is what makes me constrained to read any further. Like there's no depth or rather it's indeed shallow. The story itself told us that he indeed likes beautiful face so... *shrug*. And yes, I really don't like this ML at all. There's other things too, like his warped idea regarding enemy : (

It was not my cup of tea.

The 'love' was too flimsy to me, even superficial tbh. Especially ML's attraction to FL. On the contrary, I really like FL at the beginning. However, I have the impression that the author has never been in love, or that the characters are tweens instead of 22-year old adults.

Maybe because the setting was that they are in the book, that's why the events was seriously unrealistic. I cringed so hard at the obvious manipulations of the author to make ML perfect. It totally backfired.... more>> I had to drop it. <<less

I like how cool & calm Su Jin the MC is, and thank god the family is loving and understanding and the sister is also smart and mature. This novel is pretty easy & nice to read, there are no antagonist that are too 1-dimensional and annoying that made me roll my eyes.

What can I say about the ML, Lu Xi? He's too perfect. Smart, rich, handsome, dedicated to MC. He is a tad bit OP. But I like it.

If I have to read about ML's peach blossom eyes or FL's phoenix eyes one more time... ┻━┻ヽ (ಠ□ಠ) ノ

A bland story about rich people being rich and beautiful and doing the things that rich and beautiful people do. Sure, that's fun to read about if you're into these types of tropes. I low-key am. But HOLY MOLY... the writer's way of describing every minute detail about the characters' appearances and how beautiful they are really dragged things down. This story is the perfect argument of why stories should show,... more>> not tell.

So much time is spent describing the scene that sometimes you forget what the scene is actually supposed to be about. There were also poetic metaphors and references that got shoehorned in to make the characters seem intelligent and ~upperclass~ but it got to the point where everyone just sounded so blah and pretentious. The translation was good and premise intriguing, but the author's prose felt quite green and left much to be desired.

Still, kudos for a swapped at birth story where neither sister is terrible and the rest of the family is actually sane. <<less

Loved the premise but writing and characters were just blah.

Everyone was so bland, I couldn't get one tiny bit of excitement in this story.

I really really really really really wanted to give this a higher rating...

Couldn't.

There's nothing specifically wrong, there's detail, some touching moments, some emotional angst, some sweet parts, some ephiphanies, some dreamlike poetry, some plot twists.... but put it all together and it doesn't hit any note strongly. It feels more like a zombie patchwork of different snapshots than a complete story.

There are quite a few plots that are started very strong (MC being accepted by her family, MC and ML's wooing/romance, MC's enemy disposal, MC's novel adaptation, ML's crazy backstory)... more>> but pretty much everything is resolved extremely anticlimactically.

Spoiler
    • MC being accepted by her family? No conflicts whatsoever now that MC is reborn. Everyone loves her
    • MC & ML's romance? Tension up to a certain point but ML is l I t e r a l l y perfect and 10000% devoted (connected to other plot point with the system), but then ML never tells MC that he knows who she is, so there's no ultimate satisfaction in their romance with the MC realizing everything he's done for her.
    • MC's enemy disposal? Kidnapping ended in about 2 hrs, ML resolved it through points with the system (which is ok) but ML also sent enemies to USA to be killed offscreen. Other enemy with the Zhou family being aquired was ok, but once again happens offscreen with MC only receiving the results of like 2 interactions with the villains (apparently 2 interactions are all you need to get 1000% hate from cannon fodder).
    • MC's novel turned into drama? MC wants to keep her identity a secret (as the writer) and the author spends a lot of time setting up the background for the Movie Emperor and other reporters trying to guess things... in the end, we don't get to see the climax of the build up for her reveal as the writer or for the success of the drama (drama is mentioned as being "highly rated" even before it got shown on TV and we get one more sentence that it was doing good before crazy time skip). Completely summarized and glossed over in a 70 year time skip.
    • ML's past/devotion/system drama? ML sacrifices 1000 years of hard work to get to the MC and they cannot have children because they are living in a fictional world... the story ends when they die and they still never return back to the real world ??? Then what was the point of the crazy backstory other than showing the ML's unwavering devotion?
    • The ending seriously made me doubt whether the author wanted to write a tragedy instead??? Because it seemed the author was trying so so hard to give the story some kind of lingering bittersweetness that you frequently see in CN oneshots with reincarnation. I'd say it failed.
[collapse]

The translation was really really good, very beautiful and conveyed the author's purple prose. But because of that, the pacing was super off. The author would frequently spend like 6-10 paragraphs describing MC/ML's beauty and then spend another 1-2 sentences wrapping up IMPORTANT plot points.

There was a lot of good ideas in this story, but the author really failed to carry out most of them successfully.

Nevertheless, if you're looking for a light zero-angst entertainment read to pass the time, this isn't bad and at least the translation is finished. <<less

This story was an absolute fever dream. I left reading it with a headache. It didn't have any overt r*pe scenes or weird dislikably overbearing MLs so I didn't dare if lower than a 3. But... Wow is that a low standard to meet.

The author just seemed confused about what kind of story they wanted to write. How they wanted to characterize the female lead and even what general genre the story was supposed to be in. It just felt dissonant and irritating at times

Translation is done very well. I rated according to the context of the story. There was no significant use of the 'transmigration into a novel' plot. As the story never followed the plot from the very beginning.

And there was too much focus on the protagonist and ml's looks and appearance. Their interactions and reactions were described through Phoenix eyes and alluring peach blossom eyes. And how beautiful and handsome they appeared when they are happy or indifferent or angry.

There's no substance in their interactions. I am dropping it.

Boring.. Its boring only and only because the MC is a utterly one dimensional character. There is nothing to be liked about her. The reason why I still gave it 3 Star is solely for the ML, he's the only likable one and the only person who full heartedly tried to make this relationship work.

It is one of those novels which is best to read in its original language because in every chapter author has some or the other witty word play or some very profound quotes which loses its... more>> effect after translation. Maybe if I was able to read it in its original language then I would have liked the book more but this was not a fun read. I'm sure the translators have tried their best but you know somethings are only best in its original form. That's why it took me 2 days to read 50 something chapters.

MC is very boring to read apart from her beautiful face and rich family background there is nothing more interesting about her. As she was a orphan in her previous life she developed this cold personality. And she continues to use this same cold and indifference way to interact with everyone around her. To be frank reading her it doesn't actually feel like she has any kind of bond with anyone even with ML. Which makes me wonder why would anyone like such a cold person in return. But everyone likes MC because author has written it so. In final chapters ML has a accident and boom she realised her feels for him and suddenly she's the most kind hearted and most sweet person sweet... Blehhhh.

Not worth it.. Will not recommend to anyone. <<less

Hey there, as the translator of this novel, my review might seem biased. However, by translating it, the flaws and lovely sides of the novel were shown to me.

If you're looking for a story with a relatively good story plot structure, this is it. It has hints of surprises and twists that are finally wrapped up in the end well. If you're looking for a story with a sweet on his wife ML, you're looking at it right here. If you're looking for a sassy enough FL, this does have... more>> that factor.

However, while Perfect Fiance has quite a number of strengths, through reading a second time and translating it, it might have a lack in the pacing of momentum due to its writing style. Generally, the author does not highlight action nor on exploring the world or its other characters to keep that level of immersion.

Su Jin and Lu Xi are irrealistic enough to be, understandably, perfect story characters for such a story, however, at the same time, their relationship progress is one of the more realistic ones I've seen in a modern age novel thus far. There are uses of tropes to aid it but most of this journey in romance mainly starts from Su Jin and her process of coming to terms of discovering love and feelings.

Still as a reader myself, I recommend it with you love fluff and fleshed-well-enough characters. Enjoy~ <<less
