Edit: I was ecstatic to see more chapters. The promise of comedy gold seems to be intact as his halo and his role appear to be interacting... Poorly. (Your words say 'villain', but your halo says 'take me, I'm too innocent to be left to these wolves'.)

Original still applies: The MTL is only two steps shy of gobbledygook. Why is this important? Because with only five chapters out at the time, I wanted MORE.

The premise is unique. He doesn't want to not be a villain. He doesn't want to... more>> be Best Villain. He just wants, after n-reincarnation to have a real character. If he were an actor, he'd just want a named character in the credits and a few lines. And some newbie salesperson has utterly ruined that dream, opening (I'm hoping) comedy gold.

Review again after more chaps. <<less

Ohh.. so painful.. I felt betrayed...
This was very traumatic...

I would like to give it a 2/5. But for the sake of effort, I'll give it a 3/5.

STORY:

... more>> A very interesting plot—yes, as what you can see at the description. So I took a bite.

The story started off good. In fact, very good. The translator (and the author?) did a good job in describing what the setting looks like; used tons of figures of speech beautifully. The characters, especially the MC, was hilarious. It looked very promising. Until I read on...

Ah, this is so frustrating. Like I said, it started off good. Though I didn't know what's in store for me, it was entertaining and intriguing (at first), so I couldn't help but read on, curiousity piquing. Until right at the middle, it seems as though the author got lazy and decided to abandon the ship. That's what I felt. Suddenly, I was lost, didn't know what's going on, and why it's even happening. It's like everything's all over the place, and you don't know where the story is heading anymore. There are lots of shifting of scenes. And so finally, out of frustration, I decided to drop the novel. I could no longer continue.

Oh, my head aches again...

CHARACTERS:

Characters... I think this is where the problem all started.

The MC was funny. I liked his internal monologue. Until the author decided to hide what the MC was thinking, and turn it into yours truly's point of view!

Around chapter 80+, I could no longer connect with the MC. For me, it seems like suddenly he acted so OOC. Since the author decided to entrust the 'judging' in my hands, in my point of view, suddenly the MC acted kind of 'irrational', and made me curse "WTF are you doing?! Why aren't you questioning things anymore all of a sudden?!". Maybe if I'm just after the fan service (*cough* if you know what I mean), I'll just shrug it off and say, "at least I got what I want". But sadly, no. In every novel that I read, in every anime that I watch, I invest more to the MC's essence. If he or she's not 'consistent' enough, I will eventually lose interest and feel there's no point in continuing.

And the ML.. *sigh* I can't say much. Because he is not outstanding enough, he's just like the rest of the side characters. For me, the author failed to establish a solid character for him. I wasn't able to connect with him at all. There's nothing to hate about him—but there's nothing to like, either. He's like a plain, white wall. A pity.*sigh*

As for the side characters, they were depicted beautifully at the start of the story. I even searched and liked their official character design. So beautiful. But, that's all there is. In the end, for me, the main characters are more important. But sadly, I got disappointed.

OVERALL:

For those who are curious: yes, this has a pinch of comedy (but only at the beginning), lots of action, and *cough* 'steamy' scenes. Romance? I didn't feel a thing. Though there's a clear mention here and there, it's not convincing enough. To put it bluntly, I don't find their 'romantic' interaction romantic at all. Happy ending? I'm not sure. I dropped this so I have no idea.

Maybe this isn't really for me...

For final words: personally, I really can't recommend this, given the flaws I've stated above. But I won't stop you from reading this, either. After all, everyone has their own preference and taste...

And level of tolerance. <<less

Have only read the translated chapters so far, but I love it!

Spoiler

Because the entire concept of the ultimate villain with white lotus halo that has a "white-washing effect, " (quote from ludagad) is exciting, seriously! And the ML is Holy-Mother type, and not a yandere, double surprise!

[collapse]

And thank you to the translator, Sakhyulations for consistently updating a chapter a day!!!

I persevered in reading this until the two leads finally got together, but honestly I wanted to drop this ages ago. I wanted to love this novel- this is my second Transmigration novel after MXTX's Scum Villain, which I loved- but there's really only two words for it. Slow. and Boring. If you came here for the same reason, I suggest you save your time and look elsewhere.

Whether you will enjoy this novel or not depends on what you want out of it. Though it was advertised as a danmei... more>> novel to me, it is extremely driven by its wuxia setting, till the point where the romance seems almost incidental- every 20 chapters or so, the author seems to recall that the 2 main characters are supposed to be in love or on their way there, and throws in a few lines to placate her readers. I'd say this book is 90% wuxia, 5% romance, and 5% the white lotus halo. It's like the author forgot that the halo existed after Chapter 20- I can literally count on one hand the number of times the Halo appeared in the entire novel.

Consequently, this also means that if you like a dash of hilarity in your novel- like I do- you get your fill in the first 20 chapters and then the author leaves you hanging dry. But also literally dry, because this novel has chapters on end that are pure fight scenes. This is first and foremost an Wuxia novel. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Are there any pluses to this novel? yes. the translation is excellent. It's stuck at the early chapters, and captures the novel's early- and only- hilarity brilliantly. Then again, it will have no choice but to keep true to the source material.... and this is a novel that gets worse as it progresses, not better.

If you read Chinese and are pondering whether to brave the raws as I did- the level of Chinese in this book is high. It's a lot more poetic and stuffed with 成语 than your average danmei novel. (Again I say, this really is an wuxia novel which just so happens to have gay mains. Whose relationship is barely expanded on.) I love Chinese as a language despite being only average at it, and so this was a double edged sword to me- on one hand, there were plenty of beautiful turns of phrases to be appreciated. On the other hand, as impatient and eager for instant gratification as I was.... these phrases occasionally drove me to frustration. Then again, this is not a novel that romantic souls read for instant gratification, because there is barely any romance in this novel.

To summarise: if you want a Danmei novel with lots of m/m romance, don't read this novel. If you want a hilarious transmigration novel rife with misunderstandings and System Shenanigans, read the first 20 chapters of this novel. Likewise if you came here hoping for something like Scum Villain.... no. And unless you're a diehard Wuxia fan who loves reading florid descriptions of countless martial arts scenes.... don't waste your time. <<less

So, the reason I am writing this review is because in a lot of negative reviews people have said that they didn't like the novel for the exact same reasons that I loved it.

This novel has a funny, trope-aware beginning and then goes into a series of subplots that kinda meander. I think the real plotline of the novel has started around where I am in the story but before that just world building, characters on side quests etc.

It is advertised as a BL story, but as somebody else said... more>> in a review before, it is a cultivation novel where the couple just happens to be two guys. I personally loved this, but it is not to everybody's taste. This is not a romance novel, and it is not a deconstruction of a genre like Scum Villain either.

I also loved how much time was spent on various battles, special moves, flowery descriptions etc. but I can see how other people would hate it.

The characters are also quite straightforward (not written as very layered complex people) which is a bit of a disappointment, but I love the style and the fight scenes so it is fitting.

So, whether you would love this or not really depends on what you find enjoyable.

...

The translation is really good as far as unofficial translations go, and consistent. They also give a lot of footnotes about original expressions. <<less

Wow! This is really a unique kind of transmigration and BL of that! It's not like the usual type of BL that they fall in love in just first sight. There's more than that, the MC is not a schemer (I wish...) and more normal. He's also trying his best to complete the original plot, his monologue is like a water without a ripple, it's smooth sailing.

The novel also tells us how they fall in love (well, actually its all because of the halo).

Nice story! The atmosphere is mild... more>> and delicate, even if there's drama it would still be not that hardcore (probably). <<less

I read this awhile back then binge read it MTL. Due to a mistake, our villain MC is given a white lotus halo, he chose a relatively standard world with a good protagonist. Only problem is the white lotus halo won't let him play a villain! Lol. The protagonist even ended up misunderstanding him that something happened between them XD XD XD It was funny at first because the halo would always activate at opportune times.
Spoiler

Then things get serious when its revealed that the protagonist is a reincarnation of a 'demon?'/disaster star. More plot twist, and its explained how our MC became a villain in the first place. Turns out he was also from this world and at the time, MC was the protagonist and the 'protagonist' was the villain so he wished that they exchange places. T_T I would've preferred if they just kept it fluffy!! Not one of my absolute faves, but this is somewhat memorable to me~~

Finished...85% of it? Skipped some things here and there.

It started out really really good. Love the main character's dead set-ness on becoming a villain and the way it just backfires on him every time. The transition in his mindset from "I gotta be the villain cuz this the thing I bought" to "I want to live happily and thoroughly in this world" is really refreshing. I love how he goes from an observer of the world to someone who fully embraces it. That's the good of this novel.

Then... it falls... more>> victim to Long Plodding Plot. Additionally - the ML and MC relationship is a bit UNDERWHELMING. Their scenes are kind of boring, and I kept on waiting for some chemistry, or something to keep me invested, but I found myself shrugging at whether they ended up together or not.

World-wise, it's quite well written. Think majority of the novel is more devoted towards the martial arts than the actual relationship LOL. But I lost interest because who knew I'd encounter a Shounen Novel trope in a dan mei. MC just gets too powerful too quick. Bygone are my days of thinking naruto style mid-battle power ups are actually interesting...

Overall - I'd recommend it. There's some compelling characters and particular scenes that are quite beautiful. But the overall plot is an exhaustive exercise in boredom. <<less

There's only been a few chapters translated so far, but the translation is excellent and the story is intriguing. The MC is kind of mysterious and seems clever so far, which I like. It's creative and hilarious that the MC is a hardworking villain, but will soon be thwarted by his accidental purchase of a White Lotus halo.

This novel is actually great and amazing. The beginning 60 or so chapters drew me in and I adored it so much I kept recommending it to my friends. There’s a lot of comedy, a lot of plot, and some great action and chemistry between the two leads.

However, I cannot in good conscience recommend this to anyone after chapter 61. The new translation group does not do as good of a job at translating, and at times it feels actually machine translated with minor cleanups.

The story and contents of the... more>> chapters are unintelligible to the point where I had no idea who was talking, who was taking an action, fighting, or anything. The narration makes absolutely zero sense.

I thought I could power through it with my love for this novel and just deal with the bad translation, but I cannot.

The first 61 chapters are a dream. I am sad with what happened with the rest of it and hope that another group picks it up past chapter 61 in the future. <<less

I don't know if I should drop this novel or not?

After reading and dropping a dozen novels, I realized just how well-written this is! Aside from a few flaws, the cultivation world was established so great and the plot twists are good.

The descriptions and imageries, as well as the translations, are the BEST that I've read so far. It has beautiful, vivid, and detailed fighting scenes. I wish MXTX (MDZS & SVSSS fan here, haha) also elaborated on this aspect.

... more>> HOWEVER, what I don't like about this novel is that...

ML, the protagonist of this novel's novel, IS SO PLAIN!

Like, dude, you're supposed to be a brilliant outstanding character, right?

Why was he written so plainly?!

I don't know! Maybe I was influenced by Scum Villain since it's the first transmigration novel I read and therefore, became my standard— unknowingly.

Anyways, back to this novel.

I do not like how some good elements in this novel was not maintained or were not properly executed.

Like, the hilarity. It was only shown in early part, mostly.

The romantic development is so booooooooring. And seriously, why would the sister who was previously in love with the protagonist suddenly became the first shifter? I don't get it!

Their romance, unlike the incomparable fighting scenes narrative skill executed by the author, was not properly elaborated. All you could say was, yun na yun? Is that it?

It was so slow, forced, and so unnatural! It miserablly failed in danmei aspect! (that's the reason I read it, haha)

I understand the feelings of the ML for suddenly falling inlove. What I do not understand is why MC suddenly fell in love, too? Bakeeeet? Hustisya! It was not justified!

Saka, the matter about the White Lotus Halo! It seemed like the author seems to forget about it often.

Basta.

Anyways, I'm still waiting for updates. <<less

So far, there have only been the set-up chapters, so it's hard to see how this will turn out. The MC is a hard-working villain who wants to do his role well, and I respect him a lot already. He's not being manipulative or nasty like many Xianxia, and he actually comes across as an honorable villain thus far, which is quite refreshing. He tries to keep himself at a distance from others, but the halo keeps making him charm people instead, which will royally screw over his plans. The... more>> hero appears to be a good guy whose past is not as unblemished as he pretends it is, so it'll be interesting to see what is revealed about him from here on out.

The past events are not as clear-cut as they would first appear, and even the MC doesn't know exactly what happened in the details of his current role's villainous past. It'll be interesting to see what is discovered about this and other mysteries. <<less

Honestly, I didn't really like this before. A while ago, I had just read the first few chapters and thought the story wasn't attractive. I didn't like the way things were going at first. But recently, after having read a lot more stories (all types, not just this kind) I wanted to try reading this again and I LOVE IT. It's actually really well written and the romance is a bit slow, (mostly because the MC is dense) but it's really cute.

Big Spoiler:

Spoiler

It did make me a bit sad when I read about their past lives though. Especially when the MC's past self said he wanted to change roles with the ML and become a villain, giving ML all the luck and success. And these types make me feel so sad. QAQ It is frustrating though. In my opinion, their past lives turned out that way all due to a big misunderstanding and them trying - but failing - to do what they think is better for the other. Like, seriously, just talk about it and decide what to do after asking the other for opinions. What does the other person want? Do you really think pushing them away would be best for each other? Basically, it was ML pushing MC away because they were predicted to be enemies and that ML would harm MC if they stayed together (they weren't a couple yet back then), and then MC becomes sad and decided to leave so ML wouldn't have to see him anymore. Because ML said he just didn't want to see MC; seeing MC makes him feel bad - stuff like that. JUST. ONE. BIG. COMMUNICATION. PROBLEM.

Rather than a story about them just getting together, I think it's more a story about changing "fate" and having good communication - for any kind of relationship.

[collapse]

I think this is worth the read. But if you don't like this type of story then, don't read it. You could give it a try first if you'd like though. The romance IS slow but it makes sense to me because I've read through it. It did seem a bit boring in the beginning so I admit that I did skip a few chapters in the middle XD I like the side characters a lot too. They all have their own stories. I'm glad I decided to come back to read this. Although a bit frustrating at times, it turned out better than I thought it would. <<less

I MTLed this and lose probably about millions of braincell but it's f*cking W.O.R.T.H I.T

First of all, it's an unique concept that I haven't seen before and that is so rare these days!! The chemistry between MC and ML is so satisfying to watch and follow along on the journey!! There has never been any single chapter that is boring for me whether it's the interaction between the two Male Lead or it's the plot behind the story.

In conclusion, IT'S AMAZING GO READ IT.

The ML isn't boring or is he unmemorable. He just isn't your typical ML that is portrayed in usual transmigrating scum reforming novels like the scum by mxtx which is blackened, a possessive yandere character. I get that others find it uninteresting just because it didn't follow the same as svsss but this isn't svsss. His character is in line with transmigrated MC of a wuxia or xianxia novel. I would like to imagine him as a more talkative and cheerful version of lan zhan.

One of the more interesting novels I’ve read on this site. The MC’s intentions and the actual outcome are so wildly different that I can’t help, but laugh. I always love novels that have deep misunderstandings between all the characters that lead to even funnier events.

I am not sure at the moment who the actual male lead of this novel is, but I am enjoying the story regardless.

really enjoyed the story! was funny and the world building was pretty interesting, if a bit boring at times when they explained the fights. I loved the story until about chapter 60ish when the translation team changed... its... really bad. I genuinely dont know if this translation group even has a real person looking at the words. the genders change mid paragraph, theres no clue whos speaking or what is happening. I really wanted to finish reading it but after suffering through 3 chapters of this travis translation group Ive... more>> lost interest. I’ll definitely come back in the future if its picked up by someone else but for now Im moving on.

still recommend the read, was pretty cool and I liked the concept :) <<less
