The author has an overly unnecessary obsession with drama and the annoying prolonging of the plot. Without the excessive drama this would be a five out of five. If you are someone who truly hates drama and annoying plot extensions then you shouldn’t read this at all. Other than that the plot itself is great but if you are planning to read this because the tag says harem, then you will most likely be disappointed. The romance itself is moderately written but if you are expecting anything like HJC or... more>> similar harem stories, it will not meet your expectations. The author manages to make the character extremely OP without making it as ridiculous as PW, Invincible, or other such works.

In short with the exception of the drama it is a well written tale that has an extremely OP protagonist but not annoyingly so. <<less

I read this and True Martial World (which is a sequel to this) at the same time. I prefer Lin Meng than Yi Yun in term of personality. Beside, Martial World cultivation system is easier to understand since it is somewhat similar to other xianxia (like Desolate Era) but not entirely. But the only problem I found so far is, after chapter 700, the story become somewhat slow. Hopefully, I wish that is just introduction for next arc.

I would like to begin with saying that I would like for anyone who actually plans on reading books on this site to more or less ignore any rating given. Everyone has their own standard for novels and mine happens to be very strict. As such I don't believe its fair for people to mix reviews together because I view 3 stars as AVERAGE.

With regards to Martial World, you can expect the classic xianxia weak to strong main character. Furthermore, this novel changes very drastically in plot and translation quality... more>> over time. As I have recently reread various parts of the novel, I can see the author did not have a overall plan for what was going to be taking place at many major arks prior to writing them. Honestly, the author tries to have Lin Ming learn far more then he ever should, ie pills, arrays, body cultivation, classic dantain cultivation, mysteries/daos, and it really does end up to be a bit too much to cover in a story. I found the romance in this to be the best in all xianxia I've read. Better than coiling dragon, I shall seal the heavens (for what thats worth), Lord Xue Yin, Desolate Era, Child of Light, True Martial World, Sovereign of the Three Realms, Martial God Asura, and Against the Gods (god those last 2 had atrocious romance) to name a few. I personally enjoyed the story for all of its flaws, as some serve to improve the story. The only thing you can't particularly expect is any kind of suspense. If you don't like the beginning, I don't blame you because I dropped this novel for 5 months after only reading two chapters and not feeling particularly drawn into the world. I would rate this novel 9/10, only for disliking Lin Ming before he obtained his first job in the beginning. I feel an opening is far too important to ignore it. <<less

Read this entire novel in two days. I love it. It's quickly turned into one of my favorites.

I love reincarnation stories or MC's who start out really young but get strong really quickly, but not overly so. Just strong enough that they stand out amongst people their age but clearly have a long way to go before reaching "the top". This novel does it perfectly for me. The MC is also not "too young" as I have a problem picturing a ruthless "10 year old". Instead the MC is at... more>> a reasonable age for being so strong, but not overly so. The cultivation is fun, it's not overly reliant on pills and one of the things I like the most is the concept of

martial intent

[collapse]

The characters are mostly unimportant or underdeveloped. This is one of those stories where the only character that really gets focused on is the Main Character. Everyone else is kind of an after thought, but it's not so bad considering the MC isn't overbearing. He's reasonable, smart, knows when to take a step back and when to make a move. He doesn't go around insulting everyone unnecessarily and the author doesn't just throw non stop people who get mad at him for no reason. Most of the "bad guy-stepping stones" actually make relatively understandable moves for seemingly decent reasons (not all, but the ones that matter)
Spoiler

up until chapters 180+ when we get a core disciple who has more power than he should and isn't that strong but wants to kill the MC off one action, which is silly considering he doesn't seem to be thinking very rationally for a clear villain who's going to have some importance for that arc

Amazing. Just amazing. It doesn’t have to much romance, and there is more focus on main character and is not an annoying gigantic harem. We all love a harem but there should be a limit. If u love atg, de, tgr and others like them u will definitely like this story and the best thing is the translation is really fast.

This my friends is an awesome novel! A bit slow, but the writing style and combat system more then enough cover for this little shortcoming. The protagonist Lin ming is a cool-headed smart guy, neither rapist nor a mass mu*derer and OP! I can’t recommended this enough! And the great thing is that it has an amazing pair of translator and editor. Hyourinmaru and Jaaaspar, they are simply beasts! Pumping out 3 chaps a day (sometimes 4 or 5). It’s sequel, True martial world is awesome too!

One of the best stories there is and one of my new favorites, the MC has a nice progression is not really arrogant and the story is just awesome. Can only recommend this story and stay with it, early on it may turn some people off but in my opinion the story just gets better and better the more you read it.

Also Cocooned Cow is one of my new fav Authors, can only recommend that you check out True Martial World too.

This story and world are interesting, the MC is not some chu feng or yun che but he is upright smart and not easily swept by girls, his martial path is solid and his spirit is strong, nevermind the treasure even in reality opportunities can change the lives of people so in fiction it can also happen.

Combat scenes are well written, sometimes there is too much details but not that it matters to me, abilities and stuff are also interesting with some laws and logic pretty fun. Enemies so far... more>> are not that strong or smart, its the normal arrogant type with "the all of you are beneath me so I can do what I want"

So to resume good story. <<less

I dont know the pacing seems to be off when it comes to not the arc but random situations that occur in relation to the completion of a small part of an arc, so many chapters are needed to describe simple occurrences that aren’t really ciff hanger worthy. I will compare this to true martial world in that martial worlds chapters have not as much relevant meat on them that yu can savor, enjoy till theirs a cliff hanger where you say rightly so, drop a tear in a dramatic... more>> epic moment. <<less

Its an enjoyable read, sure it has some of the typical cliches in it, but it puts a real nice twist on them and the actual story and character interactions are quite great. This along with the characters themselves feeling quite human, and its not chock full of just arrogant bastards that bully everyone they can meet (there there is one particular foppish young master, but he gets taken care of quite easily).

Review as of Ch.79.

The MC of Martial World Lin Ming in a word; can be called “mellow”. A critic might even say “bland” or “vanilla”. You don’t really get to see his anger. Even when his childhood girl decided to leave him for an easier life, he did not feel too much about it. That is not to say Lin Ming is a person easily bullied or indecisive; indeed there have been flashes where he put down bullies and spoke up for himself without too much fear. Imagine Yi Yun... more>> of True Martial World, remove his sense of humor and brashness; and you’ll end up with Lin Ming.

This is a story where a below-average martial cultivator discovered the Transformers All-Spark, I mean, the Magic Cube; an divine artifact coveted even by godly beings of another plane. Within it lies the accumulated memories and knowledge of untold number of years, giving the MC access to innumerable skills far beyond his own understanding.

It is a pretty straightforward novel, the progression gradual as the MC ventures to side professions to fund his powering up process. Obviously on the way to martial perfection, he would offend people who looked down on his humble roots, surprising others with his talent and of course, getting the admiration of some ladies. But all throughout, the MC would stay rigidly on his path, not to be distracted too far. The chapters about his entrance test into the Seven Profound Martial House where he was confronted with illusions of desire and bloodshed (ch.34-36) basically tells you that the MC is going to be more like Meng Hao (I Shall Seal The Heavens) than Yi Yun of True Martial World.

Fans of True Martial World would inevitably come to this page seeking more of the author’s work. Both novels are similar and readers should expect the same degree of style and substance. <<less

I just read Martial World until chapter 18.

One can easily see that this story is from the same author as True Martial World. It has a very similar rhythm, quality, MC and, it seems, maybe even plot (in general term).

Another good point is the extraordinary speed of the new translator (hyorinmaru) with a Release Frequency of 0.3 at the moment when I write this review.

A novel with an easy read and with a MC that is not just immediately killing everyone that he don't like.
If I can give a... more>> 4 to Coiling Dragon then this one surely deserves at least one too in my opinion.
Nice, very nice.

P.S. I do not rate web novels in the same way as I rate books, since I look for very different things in the two of them and the working condition of the authors are completely different. <<less

To be honest the story is pretty bad (in terms of plot), and even the standard level up power spike doesn’t help cause the characters themselves are mostly boring (some are interesting but don't last long).

The Author's 2nd work TMW is much better in terms of writing, with much better plot movement and characters. You can tell the author grew significantly, though there are a lot of similarities in terms of how plot moves.

That said there are some interesting characters in this story, but they don't last long or hold... more>> up the story by themselves. The ending of the series was subpar, not horrible but not interesting or enjoyable either.

Overall an average series, with its ups and downs. I guess maybe cause it can feel very drawn out and bland sometimes. I would give it a 3.5/5

I read the complete novel. It is very good read in the later part of the story and there is solid romance as well. Cocooned Cow’s writing style is better than most of the chinese authors. In my opinion for the first and middle part rating should be 2.5 and later part 5.

So go for it.

This novel in a nutshell:

Cultivation/smelting/lucky chance -> battle

Repeat through all the chapters، lacks diversity

Cultivation system is basically tr*sh, all the concepts that the author tried to introduce (laws/intent, cultivation) were shallow and not sustained

MC relationship with character is relatively null or at least the author doesn't break the arcs with some slice of life stuff, where it's emphasis some leisure time with wives or children

Highest plot armor degree possible

Paused. Enjoyed it so far, but reading this is very... tiring. MC is OP, but he constantly has extremely powerful and invincible enemies looming over his head trying to destroy his race or kill him, and he's constantly struggling to look for a way out for himself and his people. Even 100 chapters from the end there's an extremely mysterious and omnipotent enemy that he doesn't even understand, let alone be able to defeat. Plus there's so much emphasis on Sheng Mei. The MC has such a weird obsession with... more>> her and is horni af for no reason. So much drama.

Ultimately, I think my problem with this novel is that I never really felt like the MC was in control of himself for like much of the novel. He was always caught up in some plot, outplayed or tricked by one of the all-powerful gods, can barely even control his own divine tool. <<less

), and the novel isn’t simply just driven by Lin Ming (the mc) ’s desire to reach the peak of martial arts. The mc’s character is the usual “caring to those he loves, ruthless to his enemies” and “what I have suffered is what I will repay hundredfold”. The beginning of the novel is fairly well done as the author puts in time and effort into thinking over the lower realm’s plot and there isn’t many plot holes early on. But after the novel progresses into the higher realm, everything starts to getting messy and plot holes begin to appear more and more frequently. The author forgets about a lot of plot points and leaves the readers to guess them on their own.

Something I hate about this novel is the side characters. There are countless cookie cutter arrogant young masters that for some reason only have thoughts of taking the primordial yin of mc’s women or ravaging them in front of him. They have no substance, and are all simply there to showcase how badass Lin Ming is. Even in the Divine Realm against “young masters” that are already thousands or millions of years old, they still have the same thoughts and character. You’d think that after living so long, they would begin to at least mature or be able to think about the bigger picture and not be blinded by lust in front of a slightly more attractive woman. The only decent antagonist in the entire novel so far was the final boss from the lower realm,

Yang Yun.

[collapse]
He actually had proper ambitions, ideals, and an understandable and fleshed out character. He wasn’t obsessed over mc’s women and could actually have proper schemes to destroy the MC. In fact, I wouldn’t mind much if he would become the main character instead of Lin Ming. Another thing I dislike is how all of mc’s women before being together with the MC are glorified by the author to be untouchable, cold, aloof and all have their own characters and personalities. However, after becoming mc’s c*ck sleeve, they immediately lose all their personality and are literal holes that MC fills up with his c*ck after every major arc or after defeating a powerful major enemy.
Overall, this novel would be recommended if you are new to chinese xianxia novels but barely readable if you are experienced. 3/5 <<less

Before reading this just know this is just my opinion.

After 1500 chapters there are some good and bad. I would say that the first 100 chapter are pretty good but after that, things do go downhill. The story is pretty slow, to the point where it isn't rare for me to just start skipping paragraphs or even chapters of just complete nonsense that is just boring. The fights are, in my opinion, slow and don't flow right. It isn't rare for fights to last chapters long. I even remember some... more>> fights being 10 chapters long, but maybe I'm wrong because I did skip some points in the novel simply because of how slow and boring it was. Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with fights lasting that long, if only they flow right and are very rare.

The side characters suck. Pretty much seems like most characters are there just to make the MC look like he is the best thing to ever appear. There were some that had a lot of potential, but they were just, forgotten. The villains were just as bad. Most of the time they were just "With your mere McChicken cultivation you dare look at me? If you kneel and kiss my feet I might be lenient and leave you crippled." There were so many times when Lin Ming (the main character) would fight with a 'villain' because of bullsh*t nonsense. The same thing that happens in other novels happens here as well. Young master with handsome looks and godlike talent looks at MC, young master sends people to break his legs, MC beats them, young master fights MC and gets slapped, young master complains to father/uncle/big brother, they send more, MC beats them, and blah blah blah ancestor comes out "HOW DARE YOU JUNIOR!" ancestor loses. Not to mention all the crowds that always seem to pop up out of nowhere always saying the same thing. "Blah blah has special sauce talent, this Lin Ming bumpkin has some skill but will get deep fried." When Lin Ming wins the crowds say some sh*t about how great he is and blah blah blah.

In the beginning of the story Lin Ming has a sh*t 3rd grade talent. It's brought up for a 100 chapters or so before everyone seems to forget what his talent was. His talent was well known by everyone but when he starts making breakthrough after breakthrough nobody seems to remember that he has a dogsh*t talent. Then he is revealed to have a heaven step talent? Guess I missed that.

The 'romance' is bad at best. The interactions between Lin Ming and some of the love interests are either way too few, or just extremely forced. The worst one is Qin Xingxuan. There is no reason that they should love each other. They have barley any interactions with each other and when they do, they just talk a little and well, that's it. There was one moment when she was in trouble and about to die and Lin Ming acts like his whole world is falling apart. The f*ck? Most of the side character females were far more interesting to read than this bland b*tch. Mu Qianyu was better but the same problem pops up, not enough development. The females just lose whatever was special about them and just become useless. They have to constantly rely on Lin Ming to give them some special bloodline, or this certain medicine.

Overall, I would say read it. <<less
