God’s Song

It is said that humans only reveal 5% of their DNA. The person you perceive yourself to be and the person others judge you for is determined by this 5%. No one can know what is in the hidden 95%.

Put simply, it would be as if our parents gave us a total of 100 cards when they gave us life – of which only 5 can be used. They don’t know which cards they’ll be handing down, but that’s not the real issue. The bigger problem is that of the 100 random cards, we can’t even choose which of the 5 we get to use. We have to pick them with our eyes closed.

Now imagine each of these cards represents a different trait – maybe an attractive face, an intelligent mind, a great body, a handicap. A lucky person who might have been fated with a prized card would be able to use it as a weapon to speed through life with considerable ease. And then there are also the ill-fated who end up with a torn or useless card. Maybe all five cards are duds. But that is what we have to use to our advantage or disadvantage until we die.

This is a story about a boy, the “cards” he is dealt, and how he uses them to build a music empire.

I really like this novel. It is calm and a "proper story".

My only criticism is, that many "side story" aspects and even the main story feels a bit rushed. Sometimes major events just happen in 1-2 sentences, which other novels would have described in detail for 10 chapters. The latter is also not right, but like this the situation does not catch the right amount of attention and is quickly forgotten by the reader.

I'll give this novel 5/5 because I enjoyed reading it.

There is little to no action, just the MC writing music, conducting, or playing some instrument.

Drama pretty much disappears in the second half of the novel after MC has become world-renowned.

Spoiler

I was expecting some drama in the relationship area, but nothing happens

I have finished reading this back then. I forgot to give a review. Sorry. Lmao. Now, I finished reading it again for the fifth time.

Recommended for anyone.

Probably, the only novel where I did think the ending is just enough. The author did the last chapters to make the readers think that it is about time for the new generation to do it. This is the perfect balance pacing of a story. It is not fast and not slow. It tackles every important events in the protagonist's life. He also built... more>> his character in the first part of the novel by indirectly telling to readers how unique the character is. Then, slowly crawl to the top using his talents. The protagonist is that kind of character that will get attention from everyone and make them impressed. The author did well by interpreting how a genius acts and thinks. The protagonist is a realistic character. <<less

Once you start reading it's hard to stop. I experienced the ups and downs of the protagonist's life and felt the pride as if I was watching a child grow up. It's impossible for me to put into words how incredible this novel is. I'm sure I would have regretted it if I had not read it.

p.s. An advice for those who find it a little dry- listen to instrumental music while reading it, or try imagining the vivid imagery the author puts up in descriptions. I won't say it... more>> works for all but it worked pretty well for me.

my only regret is that I couldn't even imagine the music properly. <<less

WOW!!!!

Five stars.

The beginning was short, only two to three paragraphs per chapter.

This is the only musical novel out there that make me wish I can listen to all of the songs in it. Superb description from author & the translator.

Even the opera is so vivid that you can watch it unfold in the pages.

First, begin the novel on the links given on NU. The first chap is bugged.

This novel isn't really long, there is ~300 chapters but some are extremely short, it would be a 200 chapters or less if it had the same word/chap of "regular" novels.

It was a good reading, while not particularly exciting or interesting, it had a great taste. It shows an absolute genius MC, he's a god of music. That's why it lacks a bit. I would advice to have some knowledge regarding music, it's not needed so... more>> don't bother studying music only to read it since it will surely be too shallow.

In fact I wouldn't be able to tell the "good" points of this novel because most are "bad" ones too. But I loved this novel. I'm giving 5 stars because of the last chapter, I was about to put 3 stars but it made me happy so it's ok.

Reader's rage : WARNING SUPER SPOILER
Spoiler

INFERNO DOES NOT GET PLAYED COMPLETLY IN THE WHOLE NOVEL, IT'S JUST TOOOOOO UPSETTING!!!!! HE SHOULD JUST HAVE PLAYED INFERNO AFTER GOD'S SONG!!!!!!!!!! Well, it's ok

3.5

Love this novel.

It still has all the clichés and the MC is pretty much op and can do no wrong in his field but it was decently written.

The dialogues weren't awkward. The plot kept moving forward at a steady pace. There were none of those idk some sound-effects-as-storytelling-shenanigans (I despise those what is the point of putting in Kwark Kwang, to denote openning or closing of doors??? Why not write it out. It flows so much better than 1 paragraph of just 1-3 words supposed to signify an event... more>> of some sort).

Setting and character backgrounds could be better, especially for some of the supporting like Amelia, Isaac, Yoon and Danny. Even Tara deserved maybe a chapter. Sadly there just short mentions scattered here and there. Nonetheless It deserves a 3.5/5.

An enjoyable read despite its many flaws. <<less

This light novel, I've fiNished it by one week to relish the every words.

The translators, I put my hat's off with them. They done a good work, easy to imagine the jargons used in the novel, thank god there's YouTube and Google to hear what it looks like in the novel. The ML, a genius on his own, as if everything about him creating music is jus like simplh eating. He doesn't care what others think, they cannot push him doing things that he doesn't want to. Beacause he already... more>> know his capacity as one. It's lack of Romantic genre but it's fine for me.

I like novel that would catch my attention, that would not let my phone put down.

It only show, that a novel and the translators made it possible to finished reading this god's Song.

Thank you. And I hope theyll appreciate this one. <<less

This is well translated ^^

I did find the first 20 or so chapters rather boring, slow, short, and not very funny, so I put the novel on hold........ but decided to pick it up again since was craving for showbiz related novels. It does get much better as the story progress as drama and more characters are introduced.

But I enjoyed the caring character father roles here. The novel was a easy breezy smooth sailing with little drama with some touching moments.

It is a beautifully written story and excellently translated. I am so lucky to find this because it differs from what I am into. The plot of the story is awesome, you get to see a star rise and become acknowledge in the industry. This is not like True Star. I love True Star but the two novels cover very different things. True star is more of a drama that is heavy on love and acting while gods song focus on the development of a talented teen in his emotions... more>> and music. There is love but it is not the full on drama like true star. Both are excellent novels that I wish have already been fully translated but I can wait. <<less

God's Song is about Jang Jun Hyuk journey to be a great musician/composer he is kind of arrogant but it is due to him expressing what he feels like without going around the bush. This novel is definitely one of the good novels out there the only cons about this novel is that you cant here the songs they play specially the one Jang Jun Hyuk wrote.

(I'll add some more after a few more chapters)

A great slice of life novel with a genius, bold, and hot-headed MC. It's a good and refreshing novel if you're bored with all the xianxia novels in here.

Not my type of novel but it definitely has good content. A slice novel so it all boils down to whether you can connect with it, but even if the novel doesn't speak out to you (like me as much as I love music, its hard to read about it) its a novel worth checking out.

Early days yet, but promising. The MC is an orphan, handsome music otaku who is participating in a reality TV style music competition. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Well, I got curious when one recommended this novel in the forum. So I had to search for it in the net (because it was not yet included in novelupdates that time) and I was amazed that this is such a great novel. I am more of a reader of wuxia novels but God’s song is one of the few slice of life stories that got me hooked in following it. Highly recommended!

This book is so good and underrated. It keeps getting better and better. It's not action but if you're looking for a good slice of life novel, this is it.
