It was great with the first 150+ chapters or so but it got old pretty quickly, too much unecessary details, the floor climbing became stale and the MC got too mucb overpowered that it got boring

Spoiler

he became a god btw

[collapse]

things got a bit interesting once again when he came back to the real world but it can't compare to the hype that it presented in the earlier chapters. Anyways this is a good read nonetheless I still recommend it.

Our protagonist unluckily selects Hell difficulty and thus has to literally go through hell and back to survive.

There were others who chose hell difficulty but they all died leaving the MC stranded in the tower as he needs another person to clear it with. So when another person accidently selects hell difficulty he trains her and gives advice so that she won't die and get to his floor.

The MC being alone and starved of human interaction slowly goes a bit crazy as you can see from his self mutilation. Even... more>> the forums and chats don't help much as his friends clear the tutorial and leave while he's still stranded.

The plot is pretty much the MC trying to get out and there are various hilarious situations.

Overall 3 stars. Try it it's nice <<less

At first this was funny and interesting but then it just became annoying.
Spoiler

First off, the female beginner in the hell difficulty is quite annoying with the way she's literally leeching off the MC, she's actually useless and can't do anything on her own but just had to be there to fill in character slots by the author. Also, the MC doesn't have a strong conviction, one minute he's ruthless, the next minute he's bawling his eyes out because he's lonely and then taking pity on enemies he's meant to defeat to clear a stage which has almost cost him life several times. Sigh

Its interesting but it drags WAY WAY WAY too much. Like its fine to go into detail about the first few floors but my god you get like 5+ chapters of pointless explanation for each floor. Its like the author is writing a lets play of a game. I'm quite literally skipping chapters and not missing out on a single bit of the story.

Everything that's not the MC recalling his past clearing the floors is pretty good but my god is everything else dull. I mean I thought TKA got... more>> repetitive with its in game events but that was after like 1000 chapters. This manage to make me start skipping chapters within the first like 20. <<less

There's a lot to like about this story but it is a bit muddled. At the start Ho-Jae is trapped on the 60th floor and the story flashes back and forth from the first floor to him waiting on the 60th. This continues for an incredible amount of chapters and you're left just waiting for the flashbacks to catch up for (IIRC) hundreds of chapters.

Thus, the importance of floors 1-59 aren't him surviving (which we know he will from the start) but rather his relationships and personality/mentality over that time.... more>> Yet, the author will have dozens of chapters be focused on clearing a floor or connected sequence of floors without much of anything else happening.

The struggles and development of the character are really great through about floor 20. Although the MC is pretty screwed up, he's not a blank sheet edgelord and is affected by many things.

There's also a lot of effort put on developing this book's concept of divinity and how to achieve it that makes sense for these dimensional tower of babel stories about cultivating humanity, but again, we know the MC makes it through every trial to the 60th floor, so there's not much to the stakes other than seeing how the MC develops. Then, loads of things happen off-screen and the story time skips all development that would have occurred from the time he reached floor 60 to the start of the story when he's waiting on floor 60.

After 60, the story becomes more muddled and Ho-Jae is more of a jerk, even to his lover and friends. Anyway, the story continues until the "end" which is not the end. There are 53 chapters after the last chapter that are mostly stories about tutorial worlds or are different perspectives of things that happened previously or that we hadn't seen. They're all pretty drawn out and every once in a while we'll get a couple chapters that progress the main story. The story finally mostly ends around the extra chapter 50/51 with an actual epilogue in the last two chapters. Though they end up being somewhat unsatisfying also.

I'm glad I finally got around to finishing it, but it really seems like it got out of hand for the author. The flashback framing of the story was ultimately a detriment more than an interesting mystery. Especially getting you to care about most of the characters introduced only for them to be jerked around or have unpleasant fates, it's just annoying.

I wanted to add that at some point the author claims there's a cure for autism which came completely out of left field and was pretty offensive as an autistic person to read. I guess you can argue that all the comorbidities and difficulties of being autistic could be alleviated but it didn't do that and straight up offered a "cure" for autism as a throwaway example. If it wasn't a throwaway example then that would have caused me to drop the story on its own. <<less

Not really a novel I'd recomend, but mostly because the MC has a serious adrenalin-addiction problem, apparently fuelled by some also deeply-ingrained anti-social disorder, which gets worst with time.... but then is justified and absurdly glorified during the series, as if this kind of illness was what is needed for someone to become the pinnacle of strenght and power.

He having the resolve to get to extremes in order to achieve his goals is nice, until he starts to get realy crazy (as in mentaly ill) and that's treated as "just... more>> someting to shrug off by being even more extreme, obsessed and hardcore".

Yes, the author does show that this behavior brings quite a lot of risk and problems.... except no real consequence happens. That's not how it works guys.

Being mentaly ill and keeping obsessively doing the very same things that generated that illness in the first place WILL turn someone into a vegetable eventually.

So, that completely broke the immersion for me. <<less

This would be way better if the author would quit spoiling it. It starts off with the MC stuck at floor 60 and reminiscing, and then goes to that period of time. It kills all tension and you always know what will happen. If it was just the beginning thing it wouldn't be too bad (would still be annoying, but not to the point of dropping it)... but no, right when we get to a point that could be interesting it cuts back to the future and spoils it. If... more>> it just stuck to one timeline it would probably be good, but it's the worst of both. <<less

The dungeon is cool or I like the difficulty level.

But long story short, up till now, it’s usually or most of it is me, myself and I. Like a diary of thoughts of what is happening to me, nothing extraordinary happen that progress, just me playing my game.

This novel is a mediocre level-grinding novel.

It's honestly pretty good at the start, but the novel starts to get quite boring chapter 30+. It's mostly because there's only level grinding. I mean, if you want to keep you readers interested with a level-grinding novel, then you need to add something to keep them focused. Like adding some comedic or romantic elements like what EER did.

The world-building of this novel is decent, it's a little generic, but it's alright since there's no plot holes.

The characters are alright too. I mean, there's... more>> not much of a chance to show them anyway, since the protagonist is always alone and the only way they communicate is through chat windows.

Well, this novel is not very entertaining, but if you want a straight up level-grind and nothing else, then I guess you can give it a try. <<less

The story is slow at the start, and the lack of a few elements can make it boring, but that all changes soon so stick with it a bit longer if you're having second thoughts.

So far it's very enjoyable. Not the best story, and the subplots are lacking, but it is a good story. If Solo Leveling was a 5 star restaurant, this would be a 3 star restaurant that's good at what it does but doesn't have a specialty to make it shine.

I take only one issue with it,... more>> the nationalism that became an unintended insult.
Spoiler

The author talks about the organization the Koreans made in their tutorial a lot, as if it's something grand and special that no one else could think up. They even act like no other countries have considered this, even after hearing the great success the Koreans have had with it. You'd think even if they were never in a position to require one, after seeing someone else make one and have great results with it, that they would at least copy cat the idea. But no, no one else has one. Now I know the author wants this to show how smart and great the Koreans in the tutorial are compared to the other countries, because they constantly mention how much the civil militia benifits their awakened, and off handed imply no one else has these benefits because they don't have their own militia. Unfortunately for the author, due to the origins of this organization being crime against their own countrymen in the tutorial, implying other countries never made one is also implying they never had enough issues to make one like they did in the Korean server. That they were harmonious and worked well together, requiring no need for leadership. It's quite funny to me, especially because I predicted later the author will try to show discord within the other counties tutorials as if they're incapable creating a similar organization all this time even though they had cause and the means to.

[collapse]
It is a Korean novel so I don't have any desire to say they shouldn't hype themselves up, that's what everyone does when they write about their country. I just found it funny that the hype was also an unintended insult against themself. <<less

Kept this novel in my list in case I really ran out of new things to read and boy was I disappointed. The novel adopted a nonlinear narration style, which became increasingly annoying. The constant switch in character perspectives caused readers to be constantly on their toes to find out which character's perspective is the current chapter based on. I personally find this quite disruptive and the slow progression and off-tangent chapters just killed my interest for the novel.

A really good webnovel. I did not see any major plothole. The protagonist is the kind that I like, there is not really any romance. All the good points are there for my taste. Unfortunatly there is something that is missing, I don't know what. Maybe some humour to lighten up the story. I was not as passionate as I have been reading other webnovels. In any case, I had a good time reading it so nothing to complain about.

2.9 Stars - Dropped

Kinda average. A pro is that there aren't any harems or vulgar ecchi-ness as far as I've read. But I feel that it can get boring because the MC doesn't really have anyone else with him. Only through messages which don't promote any bonding to be interesting for me. Also, some things are glossed over but you are expected to care, such as those people in the Hell difficulty in the 1st round dying even though we barely got past their introduction and also those people in... more>> the 18th round where there were many paragraphs just saying the MC chatted with them, drank with them, played together with them and so it is just assumed he got close to them in like 2 weeks without showing us. And then they all got killed. So objectively, I know I'm supposed to feel bad but in reality, I just wasn't invested?? Or cared? They were just some random NPCs to me as the reader so... You really have to like the MC to go through with the story.

This novel is like the saying "Life is a journey, not a destination". You should not look forward to what happens in the future because the best parts are now. Honestly, I really like it.

A lot of people complain about the "long" chapters when they start out, but you get used to it actually. You get used to the pacing and even start to enjoy the slow and steady grinding of the MC.

Like many others said, the beginner floors are the best. Seeing his turmoil and how he overcomes them... more>> is actually very interesting. However, my interest slowly slips away. I thought I would enjoy seeing him being strong, but it kinda bores tbh.

So from the reviews, I'm gonna guess that it isnt as interesting as it was in the beginner floor the further you read. There isnt the same rush and the same curiosity. Floor 13 was incredibly interesting and even mind boggling, but I hate that I had to bear through him interacting with the other challengers cause they're so uninteresting.

Him grinding (struggling against) the tutorial is fun. Seeing him using his smarts is fun.

But when it goes further to that, like human relationships and stuff. It really bores me. Aside from two or so side characters, Im annoyed by the others <<less

Complete except side stories.

The mawha was the thing that interests me but it was not my cup of tea.

Solo protagonist. Although MC makes lots of relationships, they wont be that deep. Author won't delve much into the relationships.

... more>> Character growth of the MC. Going through the tutorial, we can see MC slowly changes. We can how MC copes and grow throught the lonely days in the tutorial.

There are interesting floors and boring ones.

Lots of people say it goes downhill after floor60th but I disagree. I think it was steady. However I do agree that the ending parts are terrible. The ending is:
Spoiler

A cliffhanger/open-ended. He is about to go to a fight where chances are very slim yet author wont even tell us what happen

Its pretty good. I enjoyed reading it and it stayed true to the personalities of each character, including the MC. Fun to read, but I took off a star because the fights become a bit one-dimensional really late into the story, which is a pity because I really looked forward to it.

its actually a good novel like what others say and im fond of the realism that it possess with how the MC faces challenges while addressing his mental condition, also to include the interesting story that complements it along with the dungeon crawler vibe which im a fan of. BUT, things become really stale after a hundred chapters and you'll find yourself getting bored of it and there's also a lot of issues that became clear as you progress through the story like the insignificance of the other characters, confusing... more>> plot, rushed pacing, random pov changes (more of a translation issue), etc.. So yeah, it basically becomes bad midway and I find it to be truly disappointing especially on how nice it started <<less

The setting is a standard manhwa tutorial tower. People got chosen, and they need to choose which difficulty they want. There are 100 floors, and the challenger gets to return to earth after finishing the last floor. The MC choose the highest difficulty.

Story-wise... it's interesting enough. With all the gods involved and the apostles and the challengers making their organizations and the variety of the floors, there is always something happening. It could get repetitive sometimes, but it isn't that bad.

Action-wise... it's good. Every action is described in detail, and... more>> because MC has a tendency to fight something stronger, there are always interesting action scenes in the novel. And when the MC deals with other challengers, who are all way below him in strength, it is done in a good enough way.

Characterization... I don't like it. The author describes the MC as very intelligent and meticulous in his preparation, but at the same time, the MC always gets in a situation where he has to fight something much stronger than him, a situation that he deliberately bring himself into.

Always trying to fight something stronger is one of the novel's cons. It doesn't make sense how the MC can always win against something that is stronger than him. If it was a fight between challengers maybe it's possible that the MC simply has better experience and skills utilization. But he also constantly won against beings that are much stronger, much older, and much more experienced than him. The plot armor is strong with this one.

Other aspects of the character that I don't like. The MC is a psychopath. Although the author does his best to describe the MC as someone who always tries to help others that are weaker, it doesn't help that the MC actually lacks any kind of empathy. Although he often claimed that he tried to treat the NPC in the tutorial fairly, it often comes to a situation that the MC would just destroy an entire area, even an entire planet, to finish the floor or redo it. And if he meets with a strong NPC, the MC would always try to fight it, without considering anything else. A psychopath. <<less
