Don't get me wrong, it is good compared to the bad reviews, but it's by no means good by the normal standards. I get the feeling the author is too young and he made the worst mistake possible since the beginning. He tried to portray the adult gaming world in a high school type of setting. The unpopular kid suddenly becoming popular, the weird but talented, the twin beauties of the school, the high amount of coincidences and so on. I guess it's hard to pinpoint but I believe everyone... more>> who read the story felt something off. And that thing is the world. The entire world of gaming has only one color, the korean one. No matter how much the author is struggling to make us see the immensity of his world you still feel like you are in a eternal deja vu.

Then comes the next problem. Oh grid, oh grid, a so called prodigy capable of surpassing everyone had one offset after another just because of his s*upidity. And yeah, the protagonist gets better, but in very weird and forced manner. Weird as he is portrayed as another version of Kirito (Sword Art Online's protagonist) while having the greed of weed. And forced as the women that should be untouchable flowers start acting more and more foolish. From proud and confident, to meek and wary of potential love enemies.

Lastly, the author has started the spiral. The proud characters are completely crushed, the so called rankings are changed faster than you could understand the f*cking reason. Some characters that were powerhouses are forgotten and others appear from hell knows where.

My personal problem comes from one thing
Spoiler

he can't f*ck that NPC Irene more because thats what the game decided

.

Well, that's it, a story worth 2 cents so 2 stars from me. Maybe you feel I'm wrong, maybe not. Read it, and try not to look at it's only good side, the wish fulfillment but also at the so called world and characters that have a lot of diversity. <<less

Please give this a try, it is an amazing novel with probably the best growth of character I've seen within the few hundred online novels I've read.

It does have its problems but they are stereotypical of web novels in general I've noticed with Asian authors tending to have strong nationalistic views. However, I would say it is a very minor part of this novel and *SMALL SPOILER* becomes almost like a gag.

Give it a try for 30-40 chapters and you'll notice the growth already

Great novel ! 5+ stars from me

Ugh, I really did like this novel and I'm so sad to drop it but the truth hurts, it got boring. The beginning was great, a selfish character struggling to survive in the harshness of the adult world and maturing over time into a respectable adult. But then the MC becomes to OP and now he literally has no real struggles. He turned into a bland character, the typical dense MC you see in a loooooottt of novels. Great read, but I just personally couldn't stand the flat character development... more>> after ch 300 ish. <<less

I really enjoy this novel for a couple reasons, but the focal one up until now has been the MC.

While at first he reeked of the usual cliches like money-grubbing, being hostile to everyone, being a lone wolf, etc. What makes him stand out against all the other novels of this nature I've read is that the author takes care in developing him as a human being, not just as a gamer. I find his character development heartwarming, you could say, as the chapters go on and he connects with... more>> other people.

Something great about this novel is the variety in all the different aspects. He's not the only one with a special class, there are people just as strong as him that improves while he improves, his connections with other people range from hostile to friendly, none without reason. The side characters have their own lives and things they're doing, and they all connect with each other as people, not just as players.

Putting the rest under spoiler because I don't want to spoil by accident.

Spoiler

MC connects with people (other players specifically) in genuinely meaningful ways, at first starting with a more businesslike arrangement of blacksmith — customer to guildmate to teammate to friend to eventually best friends. It's a gradual development that builds over time, and feels very realistic because of that. He's a person that is aware of what flaws he has a person and at first he doesn't see why he should change, but in connecting with other people, he ends up wanting to be better himself and tries to be a better person, which is what fuels his development rather than anger or shallow love or spite. He goes from money-grubbing to doing things because it will help the people around him.

It's a very well-rounded story in all the variety. Not everyone becomes his best friend, not everyone is a hostile enemy. Fer example, his relationship with Kraugel (#1 swordsman, top player, 'the sky above the sky') is a wonderful depiction of a healthy rivalry. Two people who respect each other and motivate each other to become stronger. Lauel, who at first isn't on the MC's side, becomes hiss right-hand man, and their connection shows that rather than becoming the sort of character that is good at absolutely everything, the author makes MC the sort of person that sees where he's lacking and is willing to get help from others, which is a sort of maturity that I feel like other stories sometimes end up lacking in making their MCs too OP. Yura and Jishuka both have some sort of crush on him, and he's conscious of their attractiveness, but the base of it is that they respect each other and they've become good friends, not love at first sight or any bullsh*t like that.

[collapse]

The foundation of the story is that the MC is a hard worker, and that's absolutely true. Not just as a player, but as a person. The charm point of this story, what kept me reading through all the way to ch 872 at this point, is that he grows as a person, not just as a player. He connects with other people and is influenced by that, he helps people and is helped in turn. He changes very much from the first chapters, and it's definitely a slow build to his changing, but that's natural, as character growth (much like leveling in a game) takes time. I honestly found it heartwarming how much he grows, and the narrative of his personal development keeps me into the story just as much as, if not more, than the narrative of the game. It takes a lot of chapters to get there, though, so if you read this novel, I think you'll be gratified just as much as I am as you continue. <<less

First time writing a review.

For those who seek something to kill some time, then this novel is worth it. But for those who seek some serious, in depth, and more coaster novel, this novel is so-so.

The MC, Grid is so selfish that you would think a Devil is more human like than him. Destroying enemy here and there without a single mercy even though they have either surrender or defeated by him.

Side characters that always go for 'All for His Majesty!' or 'God Grid!' makes u think that this novel... more>> is too straight forward and is neglecting its seriousness even though the Virtual World is well built.

Whats make me rate this novel 2 star is because the Author is neglecting (?) the 'Villain' character's and always make them less OP than the MC so that there is less tension and coaster for 600 to 800 chapters.

On the plus side, there is so much Harem going on in this novel for those who enjoy Harem. <<less

Horrifyingly insufferable main character, absolutely terrible writing

The only praise I have is for the translators, who can sit through this

This is a story crafted for god power loving self inserts, and this story makes isekai with a smartphone look good

... more>> The pacing of events, the main characters thought process and basically everything is bad bad bad, I cant comment on how bad it is, but just go read legendary moonlight sculptor

Its essentially the same, but moonlight sculptor only gets painful a few 100 chapters in, as compared to this

Save your time and your breath, skip over this one <<less

The first 30-50 chapters were hard to read and (to be frank) boring (so much that I actually fell asleep while reading).

The plot really moves forward at the 60th chapter. It becomes fun ans interesting.

This is the main problem of this novel. The rest is enjoyable.

For new readers who wish to start this novel, be warned that this is some next level wish fulfilment. This novel is very entertaining and doesn't suffer the same problems that most Wuxia CN suffer, where the main character gets some friends, but he just leaves them behind because they can't keep up. As a matter of fact this is quite similar to Seoul Station Necromancer and Heavenly Jewel change, where, yes the main character is way above most side characters and most characters are cast aside, but they are... more>> still there and stay there (so far). And the main character may be (SPOILERS) the strongest right now, but other characters are improving and his biggest advantage is slowly being nerfed because others are getting stronger, but the main character is growing and gaining new abilities.

So far I am really enjoying this novel, and I believe that it will only go uphill from here, but (so far) I still don't this it's there yet. <<less

This is a hidden gem, Although it is still not equal to the greatness that legendary moonlight sculptor was, it is also more innovative as we see "a under average-unlucky" player getting a legendary job through hard work and then he becomes a legendary with hard.. Work? And some plot armor Ofc. They're essential in novels haha

The one thing that this novel surpasses LMS by is that the NPCs feel more real, it is only just one point tho. The romance is sh*t in this novel (it is so far)... more>> although there's barely any, then with author mentioning growth of MC every 5 chapters is kinda annoying, but I'd still give this a 5*. The reason is that mediocre novels have wayyy better ratings than this but this is getting bashed by people who doesn't read , I bet 4/5th of them haven't read till 100 chapters. If you liked LMS and Rebirth of the thief who roamed the world (dunno if I got the name right) you'd probably like this

Plot : 4.5/5

Character development : 5/5 (no complaints on this, even some NPC has more character development than Weed)

Worldbuilding : 5/5

Romance : 2.5/5 (as I said, there's barely any so if you're expecting some good romance this ain't for you, it is still on a tolerable level)

Anyways, if you're someone who likes this genre and can tolerate 90 or so chapters, you'll like this <<less

What's I feel when read first 100 chapters is torture and after story look like going to be good, it turn into a BS, playing skill isn't matter, any tactic isn't matter just FKing OP items and OP job class are matter, does writer pay to win in real life but he still lose to skill player then write novel to revenge on them ?

Worst thing that make me drop this novel is he will coup his good friend guild that already give him most of everything he ask... more>> for because his 2 s*aves give him an idea; damn, he is sneak, he bite people who help him without second thought. <<less

Pretty much LMS. Might as well be called Legendary Black Smith. It goes through the same major results but with a different journey I guess.

He's starts out as a terrible person and turns into Weed but dumber. It's becoming a Gary Stu story now. At least at the start, he failed every now and then, but now he always overcomes everything. I don't remember the last time he died. Which is why it's turning into a worse version of LMS. I'll keep reading cause it's the normal wish fulfillment story... more>> and it takes me a while to get off these type of sh*t novels.

Some similarities to LMS:

Spoiler
  • Pays off debt
  • Helps take care of his sister
  • Has a weird relationship with a rich girl who's cold on the outside
  • Sister loves MC
  • MC sells stuff to take care of his family
  • Joins a semi-guild which he doesn't really need to help
  • Has a Legendary profession
  • Becomes a lord
  • Has to fight an evil religion
  • The game is controlled by an AI

Let's talk about Overgeared!

A simple plot, yet it still manages to attract me and encourage me to keep reading it.

Storywise, it's not really original, but it's one of the longest VR/MMORPG novels you can find on novelupdate, and it's still ongoing. You can also see the «romance»; if you even can call it that (more like the start of a harem) building up as the number of releases go up, but it's clearly not the main focus of the author.

In terms of writing, it meets the expectations that you can... more>> have when you read a novel about a game, the leveling system is well built, and so is the questing part. The NPCs can be considered to be extremely intelligent since you can read about their thoughts.

The fact that the game is being managed by an AI, whose name I can't recall, fits what will probably happen in the future.

To conclude, I'd add that to me, it's one of my favorites novels and in its genre, I'd place it alongside The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor. So I'd recommend it to everyone that's interested in the gaming novels. <<less

Gosh, this is very interesting story. It's not fair to rate this novel as 1-2 star because of the MC.

To people who said they dropped because they couldn't stand the s*upid and selfish MC, you were really wrong.

No one in this world is perfect. We are human therefore, we have weakness and bad personalities. However, because we are not perfect, we try to improve ourselves to be the better ones. Grid, the main character in this novel, is that kind of man. He maybe a tr*sh but he tries to... more>> work harder and harder, he learn and he improve to the point that he become an ideal man. I found that was very poetic journey.

The story itself is amazing. All characters have their own personality, including NPCs. However, the thing that I enjoy most is to watch the MC's growth, from a tr*sh (like people say) to an ideal man who care and put all his effort for all people he loves such as friends and family. <<less

Don't really see the reason not to like this overall.

Overall, this does feels a bit like a light version of LMS to me, which in my opinion, doesn't make it bad in any way. Nothing needs to be perfect to be enjoyable and nothing needs to follow any set pacing that you have in your own mind either as long as the story progresses steadily. Yes, some people don't like to be patient and don't like constant cliffhangers, but that's pretty much how all web novels work. I do like... more>> the characters even with their flaws and the pacing isn't really an issue for me at least since not every story needs to be action paced all the time. The translator

Obviously there will be tons of things that would need the protagonist's luck to achieve, but if that wasn't the case there is most likely no need to write a story.

Spoiler

The only thing I find completely unbelievable and slightly off putting at times would be the "improved dexterity superpower" he obtained IRL supposedly due to how he forges in the game + all those bonus stats he gained in game from forging good weapons/armor.

[collapse]

That said, I have found that most stories of any genre are basically things to read when you want to pass the time with plenty of plot armor/wish fulfillment etc for the main heroes/heroines whether they are published or not. This one is pretty much the same but I found it enjoyable nevertheless just like the many other web novels I read when I do have spare time. <<less

I love this novel! The MC is annoying the first 100 chapters or so but, not to unbearable level and that makes his Chacater growth in the later chapters much more rewarding. Honestly, this novel completely had me hooked once the Legendary Farmer appeared! If you can power through the MC being a winey shell of a person in the beginning and follow his character growth in the game and out I think you will be pleasantly surprised by this novel. Give it a shot!

2 parts:

The game world is quite interesting, it'll have much more potential if it's become real. In other word, it's good early on but will become sh*t if it's only a 'sport'

The MC is a "king of loser" with 'no luck' (not good not bad) it's like the 'luck' is only there to force him onto the set path.

He's ready to sell a close friend to dead, even it's just a game, but it's because it's a game that he can't die make his action (bark like a dog) so... more>> f*cked up.

It still can be change for the better but don't seem like the author think it need to be changed, or maybe the author write about his loser self - but still success as an excuse for his real life ? <<less
