She, the prime minister’s daughter, was timid and cowardly. Because her engagement fell through, and her reputation was ruined, she was pressured to spill her own blood in the palace hall! Once again opening her eyes, the cowardice had vanished, replaced by coldness, causing others to be intimidated at first glance. Yet no one realized, she was not her.

He, the current dynasty’s Chu Wang, served the country and brought peace and stability. Peerless and magnificent, all the girls under the Heavens eagerly pursued him! He helped her break off her engagement in the palace hall, but she avoided him at a great distance. He set his mind to pursue her, but she didn’t intend to love him.

At home, the turbulent currents of government affairs surged violently, disputes from every country continued to spring up everywhere. The stunning her who had been reborn, and how she didn’t bat an eyelid to resolve that terrifying carnage; her name had shaken the whole world!

When the dust had settled, and the song and dance had ceased, who could hold hands with her and look upon this thousand-year golden age, this flourishing ten thousand miles? Nowadays in this land under the Heavens, everyone spoke of how Chu Wang was cunning and two-faced, he desired the whole world, and was someone they seriously could not provoke. Yet the one they could not provoke even more was his Wang Fei – Yun Qian Meng! Anyone who provoked Chu Wang Fei, must surely be prepared to lose their necks!

A breathtaking rebirth, a thrilling marriage, in the blink of an eye the once weak woman had become the honorable Chu Wang Fei!

Wang Fei: In the palace chambers, between the feasts, smiles are hiding daggers, with layers and layers of plots and machinations; those who hurt my flesh and blood will have to pay the price.

Chu Wang: In these troubled times, carrying the fire beacon, over thousands of miles of fortresses and mountains, I have traveled to the distance to these border stations; if you dare to hurt my wife I will take your life.

Wang Fei: In another country, in a foreign land, will his thoughts stay pure? The princess of another nation is graceful and beautiful, will “a pair of people for one life” change?

Chu Wang: Returning home, difficult problems arise. As green hills extend into the distance, beautiful flowers and tender feelings grow deeply; dealing with the ruler and his ministers is harder than rising into Heaven.

That night, all the monarchs struggled for power, smoke rising all around; that night, the husband and wife were separated, neither humble nor haughty; that night, the land was in great disorder, lying corpses filled the plains; that night, whose heart was confused, whose family was broken, whose country was lost?

In the chaos of war, during their separation, separated by thousands of miles of unmoving mountains and rivers, the gentleman’s heart and the wife’s heart never changed. In the lonely city without aid, hand in hand as before, they advanced together while chatting lightly about this West Chu country.

None of the characters in this novel are decent human beings. The actions of the FL in the guise of face slapping are appalling. Especially since she was a police officer before transmigrating. The ML is the typical guy who is brilliant, handsome.... blah blah blah.

Monologues by the "good guys" are always so splendid that they everyone speechless. Even the reader. Really. They are gems of literature that should be priced for eternity. (Hope you feel the sarcasm.)

All the great reviews make me wonder if I read the same... more>> story. Whatever.

I really wanted this one to work out but I'm going to be honest, if I'm reading a story where I already know who the main character is going to end up with, I need them to get together immediately and for there to be no other possible love interests. I don't need there to be another dude who I absolutely wish would get the main only to know it's never going to happen. Because let's be honest people, Rong Yun He was like a cinnamon roll send down from... more>> heaven. I would have been utterly satisfied if he'd been the male lead.

Chu Wang is a good male lead (not going to argue there, he's awesome) but compared to the utter sweetness that is Rong Yun He he doesn't quite compare. But I'm getting distracted, my point is that whole thing is dragged out. Even where it really doesn't need to be. Which is most of the time. I think the main characters only have their betrothal 90 chapters in? They're not even in love at this point, the only time we see the male lead is when the main (suddenly, magically, out of f*ckING nowhere) becomes incapable of taking care of herself even though the whole story except those rare moments is basically about how capable is. The chapters while not long aren't quite as short as those of most web novels either so this basically after about two days of reading. So I'm dropping this. I tried it and gave it a chance but the pace of the romance and revenge is simply too slow and the rest of the story is basically the same thing on repeat (how capable the main is). <<less

I like the story up until the author did the Su concubine's baby dirty. Dont get me wrong I hate her so much, but the way the author made the baby became crippled and everything about the baby.. Oh my.. I kinda quesntioning YQM moral's standing. It was mentioned that she was a cop or something along the line she worked to catch drug dealer, yet she did not have a single pity toward a baby. When I started to read the baby's arc, I thought it would be like... more>> how the half brother of MC in Chongfei manual. In chongfei manual, though the concubine is so bad, but the MC spare the baby brother and though the father is not that good he gave the baby brother to his sister in law who is a good woman. The brother became a good kid.

In this novel.. Its really disturbing. It would be okay if its aborted early.. But.. I dont like how the novel handle the baby's story..

Another thing, she was like a modern girl. But I felt like the way she spoke did not show modern girl. So much implicit meaning behind her words which actually very weird. She could blend totally in those era.

anyway I gave 3⭐️. I kinda like the other arc but the baby's arc.. It hurts me, though I dont like kids but innocent kids is still innocent despite their parents.. So 3⭐️ It is <<less

This was my first novel of this type, so when I initially read it I was hyped as hell and loved it due to how unique it was. Again, this was my first novel so I took a break for a long while and once I returned I suddenly came to the startling realization that it wasn't unique in the slightest and that, yes, I've read a dozen or so mary-sue transmigrates into cowardly daughter of a powerful family to know which was decent and which were so bad they're... more>> good. This novel just fell into the category of 'eh, it's okay' on second reading and it left me with a bewildering sense of disillusionment of the past. <<less

I read until chapter 52, then skipped to 100+.

I'll be honest. I tried to give this a chance twice. It is very disappointing. MC is boring. She doesn't really have a special power, skill or anything... She just changed the previous owner's personalty from being weak to somebody who speaks up for herself and is a bit cunning. However, her character is dull and boring. I'm already in chapter 52, but there's no romance, no pairing, no hint at anything. The story is very slow and the "fights" with her... more>> family are very repetitive. I thought it would be a good read, because the comments and ratings were good, but this was a flop.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND. <<less

I just adore these types of light novels, and recommend it to anyone who loves having a smart and entertaining MC. It is a great read that ranks together to me with To Be A Virtuous Wife, Mei Gongqing, and Demonic King Chases, so if you have read any of these stories I recommend this series for you.

Plot
... more>>
Spoiler

The MC Yun Qian Meng reincarnates into the body of a weak girl disdained by her family and abandoned by her fiance. With no foothold, the MC needs to establish her reputation and position so she won’t be looked down on or continue to suffer the injustices the original owner experienced. And in doing so, she catches the eye of Chu Fei Yang, the distinguished male lead that all the female characters want.

[collapse]
Chu Wang Fei is a slow series, with the title declaring the MC as the wife of a man she’s barely interacted with. As the MC has no distinct goals, she spends her time clashing with and sneering at various characters trying to ruin her reputation, before they continue on their various paths.

Characters
Spoiler

The current MC is mentally strong, and her every action is calculated and restrained to appear graceful and dignified. However the MC is actually very haughty, secretly criticizing any character that rubs her the wrong way. As a former police woman, it's weird that she doesn't even show a hint of a modern woman.

Given her wits it’s unlikely that the MC will be disadvantaged, however despite her pettiness, she isn’t particularly ruthless so most of her confrontations are verbal and with the same opponents and the plot hasn’t really moved. While her opponents are more ruthless and the stakes between the MC and her opponents have a huge disparity.

From the few appearances of the male lead, it’s hinted that he has a similar character to the MC. However since he seems to feel comfortable around her (at some point when they were trading smiles) he’s able to act unrestrained, secretly wooing her by creepily and abruptly appearing in her room at night and such... Not the healthiest start to their relationship. Though if he didn’t do these things, it’d be hard to interact given social protocol.

[collapse]

Aspects of CWF overlaps with To Be A Virtuous Wife as each character follows their various destinies and women clamour over husbands, however it lacks the playful charm and elegance of the latter. Instead CWF presents the readers with an extremely suffocating and stiff atmosphere, where each little action is being watched, analyzed, and criticized. Consequently, the texts and interactions can also be a little tedious with each barbed comment given a lengthy explanation over its hidden intent and implied meaning.

The series currently deserves a 5/10, however it might improve if it develops various romantic and political aspects aside from b*tchy women and r*pey men.

tl;dr version: The characters in this story are like bonsai trees waiting to be sold, then cruelly trimmed down by fate, with each little action and gesture carefully controlled and analyzed since their value will be ruined over the tiniest thing. The MC is a particularly refined plant which sits there calculating and sneering at each little imperfection of its peers, but not really retaliating as they try to uproot her. <<less

Having read all the previous reviews for this novel, you probably already have a bad impression of this novel. I had one right before I decided to throw caution at the wind and read it. And I gotta say, it was solidly mediocre. The first few chapters are fun enough to read. The MC is a reincarnated police officer or something and she's now taken up the role of the neglected eldest daughter of the Prime Minster of the Right. She wins her battle with her sharp tongue and super... more>> hardcore luck and mind reading. A big peeve for me is that her past life knowledge rarely ever comes to be of any use. Aside from the occasional feats of physical ability, the only ever time she uses her knowledge is in devising a method to cure small pox, play some string instruments and cook food. And she does this very rarely. Like a previous reviewer said, her background as a police officer from the modern age is kind of useless? She's just a sharp-tongued sly fox.

Also, the enemies never really die until they do too down the line. The plot gets really boring after the evil stepmother is defeated and she marries the ML. All her enemies except for Chen Wang are kind of dumb, so their downfalls are only a matter of when. It gets really boring after the marriage. Like, hasn't she already won by that point?

As for the MC's morals, I don't personally mind. She may be a cop from modern times, but she's in the cruel ancient past now. It's perfectly normal for her to throw all her morals out the window in the face of power. She's not really a good person, but she's a kind enough person to those who don't stand against her.

I honestly just want to skip to the end with a machine translation to see if she does end up becoming empress or what. <<less

This was one of the first novels (and transmigration novels) I've read on NU. I had a super big soft spot for this one for a long time. I really enjoyed the romance and the domestic (post-marriage) relationship between the MC and ML. Actually, the ML is still pretty unique, considering that he's not the commonly found stoic iceberg/yandere ML. He's more of a mischievous charming rogue type (always smiling and pretending to be harmless). I also think the scheming/drama is pretty well done. It's not just related to women... more>> fighting for a man's approval or concubines trying to one-up each other; there's international politics, assassins, peace talks, plague, cheating on the imperial exams, etc.

One of the big things that stood out to me was the complex dialogue. The author describes in meticulous detail the secondary meanings behind every phrase and subtlety used against the MC as well as how the MC responded in return to defend herself.

Spoiler

Some readers have complained about how unbelievable it is... but I had the opposite reaction. To me, the author's detailed descriptions of every subtle nuance was like an eye-opening, awe-inspiring "please teach me more" because of my personal experience when visiting relatives in China, since I tend to accept things at face value (the so-called Western 'naivete/straightforwardness'). Seriously, Chinese culture/courtesies are damn complicated; nobody ever says exactly what they mean, so I admire the author for writing & explaining it.

[collapse]

As for the other issues in this novel, lots of readers have mentioned already; we have a very ruthless protagonist. Her enemies get defeated in stages (instead of a OHKO destroyed in one move) which is way more realistic and meaningful when they're finally down (and you don't end up with tons of new cannon fodder characters every chapter).

Spoiler

Despite being a modern person, MC's morals are pretty in line with the ancients; she fits right into all the 'using people, ' 'disposable servants' and scheming. Her transmigration is merely a plot point the author uses to give her previous 'weak' character a big contrast so she can become the most eloquent/OP one. Overall, MC resolves issues with her clever words and understanding of what's important to the people she's dealing with. Which means there are still lots of biases/calculating/lack of forgiveness, even towards children.

[collapse]

Translation is spotty; different groups have picked this up and there's lots of pinyin and grammar errors.

Spoiler

Babel Realm has a very average MTL because the pronouns are frequently wrong and the titles change every paragraph, and some phrases are completely wrong. Novelsreborn has the best translation, though some of it is way too literally/directly translated. Willful casual has a pretty good translation, while rosefantasy's translation has too much grammatical errors and suffers from the same issue of being too literal.

[collapse]

I still have a soft spot for this one though and hope it gets picked up by a good translation group soon! <<less

Sometimes, I cannot fathom the rigidness of these transmigration stories. Apart from a few, they all generally follow the same set up and ablution and its kinda boring. The ML isnt very (character wise) attractive while the FL is the typical cold beauty who attracts a particularly good second male lead. There really is not a single unique aspect. The story has some interesting aspects but it is hard to read and really slow. Except for one or two characters the rest are two dimensional while the story is full of tropes. Due to its slow pace this is not the type of story that you can read in one go. Wow, just caught up to the translations. WOW. This was not what I expected! Chu Wang Fei has been the Least unrealistic and Least ridiculous transmigration story I've read so far, lol.

I'm coming from Genius Doctor: Black Belly Miss and Stunning Edge, so I thought this would be along similar veins. And it is for the most part, since the Good characters and Bad characters are so apparent. And the main female lead's wit is basically incomparable to anyone in the world to which she transmigrates. No one can beat... more>> her in a game of wits!!! She outwits Everybody, Every time. Which is really comforting, because the villains can be so evil and annoying. But unlike GDBBM and SE, I think Yun Qian Meng actually has to struggle a lot more... she has to plan for longer and wait and abide for her profits more. In that way she is a little less OP. Chu Wang Fei feels like slightly more mature storytelling (this is far from high literature, but at least it's less far than most Chinese light novels!!!)

Somebody compared this To Be A Virtuous Wife, except a lot more happens, and I think that's a really good comparison. Just like in To Be A Virtuous Wife, there is a lot of "houyuan" wit-battling. And TBAVW is one of the few houyuan stories that I can stomach. I can't stand imperial drama stories, but I LOOOVED TBAVW. But you can read my review for that story on its page. However, UNLIKE TBAVW where rarely anything earth-shaking happens, Chu Wang Fei is PACKED with drama. Lol. It's like Gone With The Wind, except Yun Qian Meng seems to have control over her life.

The romance is almost like a side dish... honestly, so far in the story it's only been Yun Qian Meng trying to get revenge for her mom. She still hasn't completely fulfilled it yet, even!!! And there's all these villains coming at her left and right. I feel so bad for YQM actually, because she has to deal with such horrible and hypocritical people all the time. I'd want to move and live in the mountains and never see these people ever again. But then she would have never met Chu Fei Yang... who is SO HOT. Probably the hottest male lead ever. He's like everything in one. He's smart and charismatic and strong. I've never read a male lead with a better personality, except maybe in Husband, Be a Gentleman. They are somewhat similar, except Chu Fei Yang is actually publicly known to be awesome, and they've both got this incorrigible/riling up the female lead thing going on that works out so well. I think that the "tall dark and handsome" thing is kind of boring... if they have few words to say, that just means they're empty characters. If they were in dramas, it'd be easier to at least fawn over their face, but in novels, you need some colorful dialogue to keep you hooked on a character...

The other 2 male leads are pretty interesting but really do not compare to Chu Fei Yang, which is good! Because, we all know who Yun Qian Meng will end up with. I'm just kind of sad there aren't more scenes with them together. But when they get together, it's super thrilling to see what happens. You can never expect what will happen. Actually, for the whole story, you're not totally sure what's going to happen. I think the author did a good job of making this story filled with just the right amount of using familiar tropes and then also being super original. <<less

Very, very nice romance novel. It starts out EXTREMELY slow since Yun Qian Meng (the female MC) has a lot of politicking to do so she doesn't end up as horrendously bullied as her body's original occupant. You don't really see a hint of romance until much later. But Chu Wang is a pretty great male MC (and love interest) and worth the wait -- YQM's interactions with him and his grandpa are so funny and cute! This novel is a well-written niche. This novel appeals to those that like novels that progress slowly, aren't that concerned about the romance, and isn't straightforward. Many words are spoken with deep undertones and meanings and it can be hard for those that are straightforward to follow. Furthermore, at least in the first 100 chapters, the chapters are composed of almost all dialogue. There are schemes and they are quite crafty. Finally, some of the characters are quite s*upid and shameless.

The translation for this is decent although the translation group... more>> had changed hands many times. However, I have a problem with how the translators decided to translate each officials' individual ranks. Instead of using the direct English translation, the translators decided to simply include how the rank would be pronounced in Chinese. This is a peculiar for me especially because I can't remember which ranks are higher. They could have used numbers to indicate which ranks are higher. I understand that others might not have this problem, but I can't be the only person that struggles with ranks.

I decided to rate this 4/5 because I found the plot to be sometimes too slow. Often times, characters will attack each other for the slightest things which would fill up many chapters. Many of these interactions can simply be removed and it would not degrade the quality of the novel at all. Additionally, the chapters are quite long. The verbal skirmishes are decent. I just wish that they happened for reasons that are more substantial. Other than that, the novel is decent, at least where I am.

Edit: The translation completed by humans has halted. To go further, the reader can only read machine translations, which can be hard to understand. Furthermore, I get the feeling that the translators have no enthusiasm when translating this. Many translators have worked on this novel and all of them seem to have quit. If translation quality does not affect you, read on. If it does, the only way to get more translated chapters from humans is to support the translators at Asian Hobbyist through patreon. They are the most active translation group that could potentially continue the novel. That is all, concerning translation speed.

There were also a few things I forgot to mention in my previous review. Kinship means almost nothing in this novel.
Spoiler

As such, brutal things will happen to close relatives. Yun Yiyi, a cousin of MC, was forced to marry the convict that r*ped her. MC's father did not care, for currying favor with MC's husband would further his career. Su Qianyue, a distant in-law of Yun Yiyi was the person that got the convict to r*pe Yun Yiyi, even though the Yun and Su families are connected by marriage. Yun Rouxue, a half sister of MC, and her mother, Su Qing, the mother of Yun Rouxue, plotted to have MC r*ped to tarnish her "purity." Qu Yan, a brother from MC's maternal family, is linked to the almost successful assassination of his brother, who is the head of the Qu Household. These are some of the examples.

[collapse]
Finally, just like in most other Chinese novels, face is very important. It is almost like characters can't live without it. <<less

After reading several negative reviews, I almost gave up on this gem of a novel.

I'm glad I tried reading it anyway.

I'll start by saying this, I'm a big fan of swift introduction to romance in novels, I find stories much more entertaining when there's a strong romantic plot, there's few C novels that interest me without that factor.

... more>> This is one of the novels that can grip you without a strong romance, at least so far.

Here you have a main character that is a calculating fox, my favorite type of protagonist. She has people scheming back and forth around her but she is always calm and collected, as if watching all the nonsense that at worst can even put her to death by the sidelines, unfazed and untouched. I love those type of heroines because, ah, I don't like getting too stressed out!

By the title of the plot we already naturally know who she will marry quite quickly, but the plot is very slow paced, and there's a lot of buildup. I feel that I'm still at the point of character introductions, because you are really just trying to figure people's strengths and weaknesses at this point.

Throughout the novel, I keep getting the feeling that the protagonist (as she transmigated from modern times) doesn't really hold and envy or enmity towards any of the women around her, it's more so a pity to the situations and struggles of women trying to survive in such hardship and settings where you can get buried alive at any moment without notice. I kept getting the feeling that she knows she is being wronged, but she isn't angry because she realizes people's circumstances around her, and more so, she acts just as crafty if not more because she also knows that this is the only way to survive in this terrible setting for women.

This is not action, fighting, cultivation, and powering up type of story.. This is more Scheming, drama, sinister plots, and slice of life type of story.

If you read Eight Treasures Trousseau, and Chongfei Manual, Transmigrator meets reincarnator.. it is of a similar style and just as recommended.

One thing left to mention! Beware of second male lead syndrome in this novel... Ughhh... Very difficult.

This is a good read if you like political squabbling (between women and on the battlefield), verbal ass kicking, and a smart heroine. It's satisfyingly long, the male lead is great (but OP), and the other male leads are similarly swoon-worthy.

Unfortunately, at least for me, the story falls flat because it requires so much suspension of disbelief. The heroine seems omniscient rather than scheming and black-bellied, and when she spars verbally with other characters the back-and-forth is far too sided in her favor - her victories just don't feel earned... more>> to me. And, as with many novels of this type, the villains' personalities are 2D and copy paste - they're jealous, they hate the heroine, and they're two-faced. It gets tiring.

For me it's a good read if I have nothing else to do, but if you like these sort of novels I absolutely recommend you give it a try. <<less

"I have falling in love with this story!"

This story is MAGICAL story (lol, there is no real magic in here)

the reason why this is magical story:

1. Maybe some of you doesn't too into to political struggles [kinds of the environment where you need curry favor or kiss.... to keep your place save] (actually me too, I dislike politic), but you will not find yourself boring with this story as the author can lead you well enough so you will not get lose, instead you will find it fun to... more>> read and you will realize you have already read more than 20 chapter-ish!! how magical!

2. As for now (ch 75), I can say this story have approximately 10% LOVE [between MCs) and 90% others. (actually I really love romance novels, I am always love fluffy love stories, with 85 or more percentages fluffiness in there) but, again! the author blow my view! I can feel '90% others' is like candy tastes (sometimes mint, sour, and sweet) and when we got '10% Love'... BOOM... really got me to be acute diabetes!!

3. I am not too into to serious stories! But here, I can not say anything... so magically in love!

Everything is so magical, don't doubt just read! give this story a chance!

I am teary when this story will be continuing again... thank you <<less
