This novel had such potential. It was definitely one of my favorite xianxia, the characters and the world was very interesting. The story was being developed nicely. That is until the author got bored and decided to toss the novel in the corner. The pacing of the story got crank up to 10 and you can feel that the author just wanted to end the story so he can be done with it but in the end he couldn't even do that. So save yourself the trouble and don't read... more>> this or anything else written by Mad Snail. Most of the time he won't even finish it and even if he does, the story is rush and become shit. <<less

1. I'm pissed that your nickname is Mad Snail.

2. I love your idea.

3. I hate your creation.

... more>> 4. At least finish the god damn story. You already skipped a lot and made a looooot of mistakes.

5. Because of TDG I started reading those LN, so thanks, but still I hate you for wasting my time and others like me.

6. Almost every 5 star was from people who didn't read everything, so it's already cleared why.

7. 495 chapters, but just tr*sh unfortunate...

7. I really hope that someone make something like this and do a better job than you, just to see what you gonna lose, not just your fans and money. I can give you a little hint: Dignity (and so on). (If someone's interested, just put it everywhere and is gonna be on fire from the first week.) <<less

I will admit, I used to like it a lot, especially the first time I read it, kinda like a "turn your brains off" type of experience. However, now that some time has passed, and I have mostly caught up with everything, re-reading it annoyed me to no end at multiple points throughout the story. And it's not even just about the plot holes that appeared during the later stages of the novel either, my annoyance stemmed from a lot more than that. So, let's break down the multitudes of... more>> layers which deprived me of my enjoyment of this novel, and get ready for a doozy cause this is going to be LONGGGGGGG.

Spoiler

#1: The characters:

Honestly, at this point, I don't even see the reason for the MC's friends to exist anymore. In terms of strength, there are probably hundreds of others in the same universe who are just as strong, if not stronger than them. In terms of relevance to the story, it's not even worth joking about at this point. By around chapter 180 or so, Nie Li's friends had practically ceased participating in any major battle whatsoever, and even the finer, more important plot details were experienced by the MC and his new merri-band of followers so as to keep the MC mysterious and not make others doubt him. Once they reached the Draconic Ruins Realm, everyone other than Nie Li stopped being relevant, and was instead replaced by a completely new set of cardboard cutouts. In terms of trustworthiness or ethics, there are also many more characters deserving of the MC's "gracious teachings". In the end, despite how the story and the MC keep hammering the point that friends are important and he would need their help to win, we never really saw him requiring the aid of the very same friends he tried to groom. Hell, when he attempted to become the Sect Master, all he needed to do was waive around his enormous sum of money to bribe and buy new experts. You could have literally removed every single other characters from this arc and the MC would have still succeeded one way or another. What the author tells me doesn't align with what the story shows me. The MC is an absolute lone wolf who could have won easily without relying on anyone's aid. Honestly, even they admitted that they were useless and contributed nothing to Nie Li's success. If so, what even is the point of their existence when they neither contribute nor help nor provide emotional support to the MC?

As for Nie Li himself, it is another can of worm to open. Despite how cunning, smart and wise the novel attempts to paint him, he always comes across as immature, rash and reckless, if not even shortsighted. Instead of working silently behind the scenes, taking down the enemy from beneath, he has to go around and offend everyone in the process, making both him and his "friends" prime targets for attacks. I can list quite a few examples of his idiocy I remember off the top of my head:

    • Did the MC seriously have to offend the teacher right at the start? If he wanted to take down the Sacred Family, he should have kept silent and worked behind the scenes, not antagonize them for no benefits whatsoever. I don't see how causing the Teacher to lose face and her job is relevant to the story considering the fact that the entire Sacred Family got wiped out later on, making this initial fiasco virtually pointless.
    • Another example is when he was hunted down by an elder from the Sacred Family and the Dark Guild. Instead of silently luring them into his trap, he had to act all cool and arrogant by publicly declaring his awareness of the situation, while alerting the other side of his identity as well. How about you convey the message to your friends in silence and each of you swiftly hunt down the enemy instead? You ever thought of that, you donkey?
    • Additionally, when the Demonic Beasts Wave arrived, instead of operating in secret and not telling the City Lord about your plans, how about you take like 15 minutes out of 5 effing hours to convey your intentions, thus allowing the soldiers/people to join in as well, making preparations faster and more efficient? You ever thought of that? Instead of relying only on a bunch of goons to dig holes and traps, how about you let the other Families and Patriarchs join in the effort as well? You had 5 whole hours to prepare, so using up like 15 minutes to tell others shouldn't be that bad right? All you needed to do was inform the City Lord and let him manage things from there. But no, the novel didn't have enough MC awesomeness so efficiency and clarity had to be sacrificed so that Nie Li could be praised and adored by the dumbfounded masses later. Last time I check, he was supposed to be wise how?
    • Furthermore, I always facepalm when the MC goes around taking the credit like a goddamn moron. Do you even understand what laying low means? Do you understand the importance of the element of surprise? Are you aware of how vital preventing info leaks are? Why the hell do you keep parading around drawing attention and a giant target to yourself? But oh no, can't have the MC seem slightly less awesome now can we?
    • During the Sacred Family destruction arc, instead of using that soul technique whatsoever that allowed you to extract information beforehand, he had to wave around important witnesses and information sources, allowing the villain to silence them. How about next time, instead of waiting around for the villain's reactions and explaining your f*cking plans directly to his face, you do that in prior and take him by surprise? Sounds good? Hell, even better than that, how about you extract the truth first, show that information to the Family Heads and those trustworthy, convert them to your side, then throw a f*cking banquet to destroy your enemy later? Doesn't that sound a lot better than screwing around with unnecessary mind games and verbal exchanges? Mind you, he had literally weeks, if not months to prepare for this, considering that he managed to capture vital witnesses a long time ago, and could have easily forced the truth out of them a lot sooner. Swear to god, this MC doesn't have a goddamn clue what prudence and priority is.
    • When he was able to capture or kill the two Enforcers of the Dark Guild, he decided to let them go because "the Demon Lord may come next". I'm sorry, didn't you f*cking hear like 5 minutes ago from one of those Enforcers that the Demon Lord was deep in training? In addition, even if the Demon Lord could come, why the hell would it matter? Had he been so powerful that even your array and various techniques were unable to stop him, why hasn't he directly invaded and destroyed Glory City so far? What is he waiting for, given his strength? The city protector had been moving in and out of the city for years, so it shouldn't be that hard to plot an invasion right? If so, Nie Li should have naturally come to the conclusion that the Demon Lord couldn't move around freely one way or another and thus finished the job.
    • When he was coming back from the Chaos Realm or whatever and found out that his City was targeted, instead of revealing the City's existence to a bunch of strangers you just met, how about you leave them behind and go back alone? You know that you have only stayed with them for less than a month right? And during that time, you have mostly just cultivated in seclusion. What gave you the impression that they were trustworthy and not just using you for your knowledge? What made you think that they wouldn't mu*der you right there and attempt to take over Glory City for themselves? Are you really that naive? It is one thing to trust people who have proven themselves during their past lives, but this is just careless.
    • More generally, throughout his entire journey, why hasn't he informed those he trusts with the knowledge of the impending crisis yet? After you have managed to establish friendship and bond with your group, you should tell them the truth so that you can provide them a sense of urgency. Like, his entire group should have known about the Sage Emperor by the time they prepared to travel to the Draconic Ruins Realm, along with those like Ye Mo, Ye Zong and their cohorts. Always keep your enemies in the dark, but your allies informed. That is necessary for preparation and co-operation. And yet, the MC never conveys his secrets to anyone, even those he was willing to die for. Shows how much you care about and trust your "friends", am I right? This is also a general issue with Time Travel stories in general, where the protagonists keep delaying his friends from knowing the truth, thus wasting valuable time that you know is short.

I can keep going on and on about how moronic/naive the MC acts during important moments of crisis, and a lot of it is due to the author trying to glorify Nie Li as well, but I think that's enough for now. Next, let's talk about his personality. Based on what he does and how he acts, I can only conclude that the MC is childish, arrogant and self-righteous. Oh, you are angry that I peeked at your daughter? You must be at fault for being too strict. Oh, you have reservations about being touched by others? You must be a sissy and have issues. Oh, you find it difficult to beg a child decades younger than you for help? You must be a coward. Oh, you don't like me and find me creepy? You just haven't seen real happiness yet. Because of course our glorious MC has to be THE shining golden example of manliness, moral compass and ethical behavior. Seriously, can the author stop wanking Nie Li off for once and let him be sorry for something? He is supposed to only have the body of a 12 year-old while possessing the mind of an ancient being, yet he truly acts like how a 12 year-old would. He seems to have issues accepting that others possess different worries/plans/reservations/morals compared to his. No, you idiotic mouth breather, Ye Zun is not your property, she isn't something that you can just "take back what's yours". The person you loved is already dead, this is a completely new person, with her own feelings, her own agendas, and her own desires. Who granted you the right to claim that she is yours and you're the only one who deserves to be with her? Seriously, for once, I would like a Time Travel story where the MC comes to terms with the fact that his lover is already gone, and the current her is a different person. Let her pursue someone she likes, and congratulate her on her new happiness, move on and find someone else for you. It's also fine if the MC ends up with the same person as before, but at least make him pursue her in honest, let him make an effort for it, let him adapt to the new timeline and engage in a different way compared to before. Don't just let the MC declare a girl as his and be done with it.

The villains are all one-note Sunday morning cartoon bad guys as well. Seriously, an arrogant spoiled young master, an as*hole teacher, an evil clan head, a morally bankrupt faction leader hell bent on genocide, a bullying senior, a power hungry disciple aiming for a higher position, the only thing that could make this any more cliche is to have every villain laugh maniacally after each conversation. There is no shade of gray whatsoever in these conflicts, and it gets boring extremely fast. Can't the author insert some emotional drama in there or something? Make these villains more sympathetic and relatable? Seems too hard I guess, since Nie Li needs to always be God's Apostle guiding us towards Enlightenment. Many of the previously mentioned villains had potential to be interesting and understandable as well, like how the Sacred Family head believed that aligning with the Dark Guild was the only way to survive, or how the Demon Lord lost his family to corrupt leaders of Glory City. Had these factors been expanded upon, they could have been real impressive characters. But lol nope, they got nothing, and Nie Li remains the Pillar of Morality, never doing wrong, never feeling sorry, never developing.

2: The prose:

The prose of this novel is not too bad, but it's also quite lacking in terms of attention to details and interesting/exotic descriptions. You live in a world full of Demonic Beasts, yet the amount of words dedicated to visualizing them is sorely barren. Even the typical scenery seems so lifeless and boring. Oh, you walked into an entirely new Building/Institute? How about you describe their emblems? Their architectures? Their decorations? Their uniforms? Their rooms? Their magical elements? What about the headquarters of a famous figure? Are you going to describe it? What about basic sh*t like what people are wearing? Their armors, their head guards, their weapons, their belts? Or even their fashion sense? Apparently not it would seem. Seriously, despite setting his story in a fantasy world, the author sure succeeded in making everything look and sound as plain as possible.

3: The plot holes/contrivances:

At the beginning, Legand Rank was near the top, with Nie Li surpassing it by one or two stages. Then two hundred chapters later we have Demi-Gods, then Spiritual Gods. The worse thing is, Nie Li isn't even aware of these stages, despite being at the top. Like, surely even if you bypassed these stages due to special circumstances, the opponents that you fight would give you some insights towards these things as well? How did he manage to surpass Legend rank, get beaten by a few Demonic Beasts, have to run away for his life, yet know nothing about these ranks? And that's not all, once the Draconic Ruins Realm came into existence, everything that came before it turned into nothing short of a joke, as 5 more ranks are introduced, rendering what was previously established as extremely rare less than child's play. Hell, Legend rank was said to be out of reach to most people at the start, and only dozens or so Legend ranks existed. But by the time chapter 200 came into view, Legend ranks are now a bunch of insects that can be squashed at any time. Even a small organization at the edge of a region could fork out dozens or so Legend ranks while still reserving their main forces. The sad thing is, half way through the novel, during Nie Li's time in the Draconic Ruins Realm, the author probably lost interest and decided to allow Nie Li to just skip through entire ranks with no effort whatsoever. He went from Heavenly Fate, skipping Heavenly Star to nearly Heavenly Axis tier, then after a few chapters later, skipped Heavenly Axis and moved into Dao of Dragon Realm and stayed at the edge of Martial Ancestor Realm. He basically went from the lowest tier in the Draconic Ruins Realm to nearly to highest tier in just a few chapters. At this rate, there is no reason why I should believe he can't just skip through a bunch more tiers and beat the crap out of the Sage Emperor, considering that there are only 2 to 3 more tiers for him to surpass.

Not only that, after Nie Li got separated from his friends for years, when he reunited with them, they conveniently already knew about the Sage Emperor, without showing me any on-screen revelation from the MC whatsoever. And yet, somehow, at this stage, Nie Li is still keeping his Time Travel a secret, and what for? Past conflicts get swept aside like rugs, while anticipated interactions happened off-screen. Nie Li somehow now accepts Xiao Ninger as his lover as well, despite clearly stating that he only loved Ye Zun before they parted. Had the author wanted to give him a change of heart, he should have done so publicly throughout an entire arc, not throw it randomly out there and expect me to accept it. All the exciting things that kept me reading despite the MC's s*upidity and childishness have basically been resolved behind the scenes, whether it was the Sage Emperor's threat, his feelings for Ninger, or his vengeance against the Demon Lord. Mad Snail has definitely lost any desire to continue this novel, and is basically ramming the story head on towards a cliff to reach the ending, refusing to make any twists and turns along the way to avoid damaging the product.

[collapse]

All in all, if I had to give this novel an absolutely objective score, it would be a 2/5. However, I will rate this a 3/5 since it can still serve as a passable brainless read. Just don't try to think too much about each character's actions otherwise you may get very frustrated. <<less

In the time it takes to critique this novel, I could literally write my own. Strong initial story, that devolves into absolute inane bullsh*t as the author gets progressively more bored with his project. Mad Snail is notorious for this and the notoriety remains justified.

The guy is just a dog-sh*t author. His stories may have some sort of hook or mystery that draws a reader in, but he can never tie anything together for the life of him. What's worse than a bad story? A decent premise that devolves into... more>> a rushed, sh*t ending. Pretty sure any Game of Thrones watchers could resonate with this. <<less

I don't really know, why everyone is so critical about this manhua, when is really good.

To clear some of the negative aspects that some people claim to see:

1. He is a arrogant prick:

... more>> This is not true, no matter how much I would try to make him look bad, I just wouldn't be able to. What most people who think this way don't get is that he actually Has to act this way.

Try to remember. In his previous life, he was a nobody. He had a poor soul sea, and the cultivation technics of glory city were not the best. How much attention would somebody like this get from people who put everything on a scale and measure one's worth in power and wealth? Just by acting the way he does, he gets the attention and help he needs to get the resources needed to improve the cultivation of himself and other people in town. If he would not, nobody would listen or even believe in him, and they would surely all die again.

Because he let's all the other people feel weak, they are animated to train harder instead, increasing the power of the hole city to fight against the demon hordes. Also he doesn't do everything just to increase his own power. He also helps others and gives them powerful technics to improve their rank and power. So that he wouldn't loose them again.

2. He is a pe*ophile who treats zi Yun as his property:

Also not true. Try to remember. He got reincarnated. Meaning he himself is younger but he has kept his thoughts and feelings. And he's always liked zi Yun, but in his previous life she wouldn't notice him, until the demon beast hordes came and he helped her and they both fled. But since then they spend much time together, and loved each other dearly. Of course zi Yun knows nothing of this, but he does. Put yourself in his shoes. You can't just erase feelings. Of course he still loves her, and wants to win her back! And he doesn't see herself as his property, but as he knows how she is feeling and what she values, he is determined to make her fall in love with her all over again. I guess I would try the same. He also backed off a few times when she said so. But then SHE came back to him again apologizing again. He is the type of guy who would have still protected her as long as he lives, even if she where to not fal for him. But he just knows she feels the same way for him too.

3. The plot holes:

Well there isn't much to say about this one, as it is fast to explain. There are some things where you think "it should not be like this" but it actually makes sense. He changed the past, and so he also changes the future. Because he and his friends get strong in a short period of time, the sacret family for example is more vary of him, and acts faster as in his previous life. Fo example ye Han, who would normally have become the city lord, who started the demon beast horde and tried to kill his father because he couldn't get what he wanted this time around. Of course there would be changes if you change the past.

In reality ni lie does everything for his friends and zi yun and also for the people of glory city. Of course there are some things where he tries to shoulder everything himself. But I guess that's normal when you experienced what he has, and while trying to put the others through as minimal danger as possible. <<less

To be frank it's not entirely unbearable like some novels that just repeat the same plot at higher and higher cultivation for example MGA (Dropped it after 3 arcs), the beginning was good with an interesting plot it had a great future possibilities but the author seems to have changed the plot multiple times after the subsidiary realms were introduced that conflicts with the original plot and later author seems to have round about way to include two complete plots to have a link that makes you go "oh it... more>> might be that way". The Recent chapters (350 onwards) have given me a vague feeling that the TDG is about to end with a final confrontation with the "Sage Emperor". It was extremely interesting as to how the bad guys (mainly minions) pop up suddenly and disappear suddenly as well and how the main bad guys that the MC has been trying to kill doesn't die but just disappears. <<less

This is one of the most controversial novel. All aspects regarding the novel itself--- plot, story, lore, writing-fluency--- are definitely top-notch. However, all aspects regarding the author--- laziness, arrogance, falsehood, misconduct, shamelessness--- are definitely among the worsts.

For Novel aspects, The storytelling is entertaining (even though, it is rushed a bit after the ascend), and the writing style is just at the right level for shounen reader. The story never presents too many information to overwhelm readers nor too little information to make the novel boring. Each turn of events are... more>> entertaining to read and leave out great satisfaction after each arcs.

For Author, shameless would be the right word to describe him. First of all, he had never finished any of his past novels (every one of them went on hiatus), and he always find a fake excuse to quit on them (one being his parents are in hospital, etc). Later, the community found out that he wrote a different novel under different penname. He gets bored quickly with writing and will rush his plots.

TDG suffered the same fate. After TDG becomes widely popular to the point it gets anime and manhwa, the author started dropping novel. His past speed of 1 chap per day (standard CN novel rate) becomes 1 chap per month. He's more prioritized in every other stuffs related to his novel except for his novel.

So, if you want to get frustrated by the author himself, then you can try this novel. <<less

In 2016, the author grew tired of writing this novel, so he decreased the pace of writing to 1 chapter a month. This means that this novel will likely NEVER finish, so be warned.

Spoiler

Nie Li cultivated to a very high realm, then fought the evil Sage Emperor and got killed. Reborn, Nie Li uses his knowledge of future and cultivation to get powerful enough to get his revenge!

Like most reincarnation xuanhuan novels, TDG is formulaic, bland, and frankly, boring.

Spoiler

Strong Points:

Main character is not a mass mu*dering psychotic ret*rd, unlike a lot of other novels. He has a harem, but he doesn't go acquiring more harem babes randomly, so its a minor improvement.

Weaknesses:

Many. It shares all the lame formaulae found in a typical Xuanhuan, such as: Dumb Young Masters, Arrogant Seniors, hero has a cheat item, everyone except the MC is dumb and cannot see the threat posed by the Sage Emperor, Plotting is not existent, weak writing, and so on.

[collapse]

Conclusion:

If you like this type of novels, then better alternatives are available, such as HSSB and SOTR. If you prefer reading the best Wuxia/Xianxia, then try: Nightfall, Ze Tian Ji, Death Sutra, AWE, and Pivot of the Sky.

This light novel is what got me into light novel in the first place. From there I expanded onto COL, Panlong, ISSTH, etc...

In the beginning of the novel, I was hooked, power reading through the chapters. However lately, it's been a chore to read it. I know the author's working on another novel and has been pushing out chapters like nothing while TDG's been getting maybe a few chapter during this time period. His reasoning is that he's waiting for the manhwa to catch up... Personally it seems that... more>> he's going to be dropping this or speeding everything up which is a shame.

This past chapters it's been 1, 400 words where in the beginning it was 2, 000+ words. It's such a shame to see such a good novel go down the drains.

Props to the translator and their team, they've been doing such a great job.

Overall a good read until you start hitting the chapters 400's+ <<less

I'm giving three stars because I love everything about this novel, manhua, and donghua. But it's a classic case of Author writing something too good for his own good. Now this ret*rd is too embarrassed to continue because he hit a stroke of luck and wasn't mentally ret*rded for enough time to write the first 400. Then the ret*rdedness struck after and he realized he doesn't even know how to write. So we're stuck with an author who p**syfoots along. Been 8 months since the last upates too. A novel where the manhua has to slow down because of it catching upto the novel. How sad huh? A rather decent novel ruined by slow pacing.

i really dislike novels where there is time distortion because its just a fat lump of plot armor. However some do it better than others. This did it rather decently.

This is my first review on Novel Updates. This novel is pretty decent at the start, good pace and the story becomes more interesting later on until near chapter 400+. The Author finally showed why he's called Mad Snail, he start writing only one chapter a month (That's 12 chapter a year!!! Can you believe it). The story is good per se but it could've been an epic story If they author decided to make the MC Smart. Who just happened to be a member of Sacred Family (one of the three major family in the city) and the Patriarch blood sister. This mistake could be forgiven since he made friends with trustworthy people. Then he cures and gives a high ranking cultivation technique to the first hot girl he comes across. While challenging the Sacred family by informing the world that an ancestor of the clan had plagiarized a inscription as his own. Literally placing himself on their Radar like a beacon. Shouting out 'My name's Nie Li, am the guy who's going to destroy you'. Which results in the family trying to kill him in the city (which fails) and then outside the city (again fails). Then asking a the hot girl he cured five minute ago to use her family statue and manpower to purchase a large quantity of a cheap grass. Which turns out to be a key ingredient in greatly increasing alchemy elixirs Yield and efficiency (Which he sent the formula to the alchemy Association Vice president). Not Ever thinking First, Using a random noble family manpower to purchase a large quantity of the grass which price just happened to skyrockets few days later will attract suspicion from said noble family. I mean how s*upid was he, for a person who lived for over hundred years, when he was reincarnated, Couldn't he just take stop and think. Like:

1st - This city will be invaded by a demon beast wave in five years, Meaning I have to strength the city so it can withstand it. I should give them low ranking cultivation techniques I posses which are still superior than any they currently have.

2nd - The Sacred family who betrayed the city and abandoned the city gate/wall and left. Meaning since they planned to betray it once they will again, I have to destroy them and prevent them from causing the city downfall.

3rd - The dark guild who is the criminals organisation operating within the city. I have to stop their evil activity but first I have to investigate them. A large organisation will have a powerful family or faction supporting them in the shadows. How powerful are the group, how many dark gold or legend rank cultivators does they have.

4th - If am going to oppose the sage emperor and his six deity rank demon beast, am going to need allies and friends who will fight beside myself.

5th - If am going to change the future I need faction, a powerful faction who will do my bidding and make my life easier (Who I can order around) I can give them supreme cultivation techniques so they can fight any group I face in the future.

But does he do any single one of them? No. By publicly opposing the Sacred Family, His life and his family are target couple of times. Nie li continuing trying to expose the dark guild and sacred family connection, results in the Sacred Family and dark guilds to having a create a distraction to give themself enough time to breath. Which results in a premature weaker beast tide which results in countless innocent deaths. Trying to destroy the Sacred family and Dark guild as soon as possible, they hasten the process which result more deaths and destruction. His action also indirectly results in the city lord adopted son to betray his own step father, join the Sacred family and Dark Guild before betraying them to join a more powerful faction in the Nether Realm and selling their city location to said faction. Said Faction leads a group of legend rank cultivator to scout the area which almost results in the city destruction. Then The Demon Lord (The leader of the Dark Guild) attacks the city and kills his father in law for a treasure and he couldn't stop him because he was too weak.

He took just a little over one year to reach the Demi-god rank (above 5 star Legend Rank), meaning if he bid his time and created a secretive organisation. He could have destroyed the Sacred Family and the Dark Guild easily without much problems, His father in law would still be alive, all those citizen that died because of his sctions wouldn't have died. The city would have had hundreds of Legend rank cultivators and could have competed with nether Realm and even expanded to the outside world of the city.

Actually the story isn't so bad and a bit intriguing. It's way better than the other wuxia novels.

The only downfall to this is the author. After getting enough popularity, he become an a-hole and update this once a month. Before I believe it was longer for a chapter update.

This novel started since 2015. It's not long as the other outrageous chinese novels where people over extend to thousands of chapters on repetitive stuff. This novel actually has good contents. Granted that it is short and all, it's been years and... more>> the story hasn't progress much towards the end of the story.

So I would advise not reading this as it will only leave you with a cliff hanger till the day you die not knowing when it would finish.

On another note, the manhua is just as half-ass as the author. Crude drawings and story just goes thru a skip n hop like hopscotch game. I really can't tell the the gender of the characters in the manhua as they're all looking alike.

Some ppl said that it was great and all. I guess if they like stick drawing figures then its all good for them then. <<less

The first wuxia novel I read. At first it was interesting and I was able to turn a blind eye on the s*upid things the "genius" MC with hundreds of years of experience does. In reality the MC is an idiot with severe brain tumor. He does the s*upidest things and make enemies with every possible strong faction in the story. But alas, the cultivation, rankings and superpowers were done very good. If only the author would finish the story in time and stop. But no. After the author s*upidly... more>> made the MC too strong after 200 chapters in, he should have finished the story around chapter 260. Instead he shamelessly restarted the whole story with same s*upid classes and disciples doing things all over again. Apparently the whole cultivation ladder was sh*t and being the super legendary black gold something doesn't mean anything and there is another cultivation ladder on top of it. Why? Just finish the damn story in time! Apparently later in, the author himself lost the interest and stopped writing new chapters.

TLDR:

Another ret*rded "genius" MC. Good cultivation and interesting world, if only the story stopped after 260 chapters where it should have. <<less

Have you ever read a wuxia novel? If not you will be like me and enjoy this one.

This is the novel that started it all for me. I read the manhua and liked it very much. Unfortunately there weren't much chapters so when I found the novel I was excited. I read it in one go and liked it.

Then there weren't any chapters anymore and I tried other novels. Only after reading a few I realized how bad this one was. It is alright at first but as the story... more>> goes on it becomes worse and worse. I stopped when MC went up 2 or 3 major stages in cultivation in minutes just because.

The MC knowing the future is one thing but he has extraordinary luck, he finds rare and powerful artefacts as easily as you find trees in a forest. He was tr*sh in his previous life but he is reborn with so much cheats it is sickening.

Also I stopped reading years ago and barely 20 chapters have been released since then. Some authors give us 2 chapters a day, this one write one in a month.

DO NOT READ IT. <<less

At first, TDG was an interesting new series. The newgame+ concept is a nice change of pace from the 'reincarnated from modern earth' that other Xianxia had. Seeing every situation that Nie Li has the perfect solution for is fun. But it quickly becomes apparent how shallow the world and characters are.

The manga adaptation is drawn in a style which looks somewhat like Naruto fanart, which fits well with the first part of the story. But the theme doesn't really stay like that for too long as the author takes... more>> us to a variety of different locations without spending any sort of time on any of them, and rarely returning.

Nie li died and returned to the body and time of his younger self, but in his 'past life' he apparently lived for hundreds of years until he made it to the rank of number 2 strongest in the world before dieing. Although it seems that past plot was laid out at one point, the author seems to have been making it up as he went for a long time now.

Actually, much of this story seems to be 'made up as I go'. I doubt the author has any type of coherent plan and it kind of shows. I think he just set out with an idea of 'I want to start writing a long series' and just kept going.

The romance is cringe worthy, and Nie li has some wierd plot-brainwash armor that makes people who hate him worship him.

Spoiler

The main love interest's father catches Nie li taking a bath in her room and tries to (understandably) mu*der him. Nie li has also been sexually harrasing her this entire time while claiming to love her above all other women. Her father soon enough 'apologizes' and 'learns a valuable lesson' and accepts Nie li as importan to his daughter.

While I am on the main love interst, almost everyother female character who interacts with Nie li falls madly in love with him, which he then rebuts or ignores their advances. But then the author casually mentions that polygamy is a go in this world and considered kind of common for those who have made less contributions than Nie li as a cheat protagonist does, and Nie li somehow wants to be only with the main love interest.

By the way, the Main love interest is shallow and generic as a character. Her four features are she is a princess, very talented as a cultivator, being sexually harrased into a relationship by Nie li who she just met, and is a girl.. that's it.

It wasn't a bad read for the number of chapters translated... and although its a strange reason to recommend it, I had fun reading it and criticizing it. Take that as you will... <<less

I actually liked this novel. The people who have reviewed below me seems to hate MC waaayyy to much because he isn't like typical MC and has an arrogant attitude.

Spoiler

First of all in his first life MC was weak cowardly timid and pushover kind of person with little talent. He was bullied by many (Even by his own clans elder who used to whip him frequently for little to no reason).

MC's character started to change when his home and entire city (which at that time was supposed to be last human city) was destroyed along with his best friends and entire family because of the betrayal of one of the three most important family in the city. This family ran and hid away to protect themselves and in doing so monsters invaded the city through the gate which they were suppose to guard. This is first major turning point of MC's previous life

After city was destroyed a few survivors including MC's crush left the city. And during the harsh and aimless journey almost everyone perished including his crush turned girlfriend, who died while protecting MC. This is second major turning point in his life.

After that it is said that MC roamed around the world as a wanderer came across a priceless artifact called temporal book of space and time. With help of this book able to enter a kind of pocket universe which contained lots of lost knowledge and ancient books. MC learned them all (time is differently in pocket universe and almost everyone has ability to memorize things that they have read). This is his third turning point

After 2 centuries later, somehow the MC, now quite powerful, found a way to revive the people close to him and to do that he went to collect their souls. MC came across an overwhelmingly over powered Person called sage emperor (demon beast type character. And almost god like powers) who destroyed the souls that MC had collected and released the overpowered beasts under his control to kill MC and they succeeded. This is his FINAL turning point in his life (not fourth turning point though).

The next moment after his death he realizes that somehow he jas traveled back in time when he was 13 years old due to the temporal book of space time. he has all his memories and knowledge he gained in his previous life (though he no longer has the book). Now givem a second chance he vows to protect his city and kill the sage emperor using his knowledge from previous life. This is where story begins.

Now from these points mentioned above MC naturally has inherent Hatred towards some people. MC is arrogant and disrespectful towards only some people as he knows already what kind of person they turn out to be. Plus he realized that he lives in a dog eat dog world so he refrains from appearing weak and shying away from challenge.

MC had gathered a lot (not all) the knowledge from the pocket space. MC is ONLY overpowered AMONG HIS PEERS. That is he can compete again a person a few levels above him (so not exactly overpowered) And due to his battle experience in previous life MC has uncanny control over his power and strength which he uses it attack weak spots of enemies.

Some people mentioned that MC sees people as chess pieces and tools to defeat the villain but they are wrong. MC values loyalty above all and due to his previous life he knows whom to trust and whom to not.

This novel is kind of addictive, though it gets a bit dragged some times. The past few chapters released by the author is quite small and this novel hasn't been updated over a month. Also the quality of chapters and it length have decreased greatly
My advice... Read first 200~300 chapters and drop the novel n dont return until you see s finished tag ir there sre arnd 500 ~ 550 chap... Whichever comes first..... <<less
