Typical stallion novel with typical cultivation plot.

Pros are detailed back stories and less repetition, while the story overall seems to have a clear target.

Cons are explaining the main character as all innocent, and nature taking its course blah blah while he does all those double meaning actions intentionally. Picking every beauty you can is fine but acting all innocent when the first thing mentioned about every new character he meets with the details of how voluptuous, how attractive, how sexy, how incredible, how curvy etc etc the new person's body... more>> looks like and makes his heart beat kinda breaks the character and adds a touch of hypocrisy. The second thing would be noone seems to be able to do anything without the main character, even the ones that started out with equal footing as him.

It's not good, it's not bad, the flow of story is reasonable and interesting. The starting chapters were better than the recent ones.

Pros

Interesting world building. Good character development. Story development at a good pace.

Cons

Author lost interest. Author releasing bare minimum based on contract (1 chapter, per 30 days). Overpowered. Cheat like knowledge.

This was my first LN and got me out of manga and into a crazy crazy world. Not really the best like all first's but its an enjoyable read and has a special place in my heart. I have reread it a couple of times now and still check in once and a while to see if there are new chapters..... there rarely are but hope springs eternal and I respect the author and wish him well. the main character is kinda immature by the by but well maybe its... more>> hormones being a teenager again dose not sound fun <<less

The novel is good, it is not so bad although sometimes it has its holes in the plot is still interesting, the only bad thing is the time it takes to leave a chapter and knowing the author and his works that none is finished just the opposite, coincidentally publishes a chapter which makes you want to discard it.

This was my first chinise novel. At first I tought "wow this is awesome!" poor me...

Actualy there are novels much better than this, however tdg is a enjoyable novel.

So if you like fantasy and battles this is for you, the only draw back is that the author writes multiple novels in the same time so he only writes 1 chap per mouth.

sorry for bad english... :p

Like alot. The MC tries his best and unfortunately cannot save everyone and that is realistic. First life he loses everyone and his own life and second time around he is trying best to save what should be saved and who matters to him but still can't fully succeed because he is facing someone incredibly powerful and evil. Want to see him succeed so keep chapters coming author and translator please and thankyou.

One of the best novels I've read so far, and the translations is superb as well. Sadly, the author recently decided that he would pause (once-per-month-updates) until the manhua catches up...

Also, the chapters roughly around 430-460 seem rushed. Quite sad, as it was a very strong beginning and my introduction to light novels.

Now what to say... this wasn't my first, but I was surprised this story is so bad that some of the reviews are just pure bashing or insults... It's kind of sad really. This story was one of my firsts, not the first and introduced the cliches found in most reincarnation novels pretty well, or so I thought. I definitely understand the fact the author seems like hes only continued writing to please the readers, but as someone who always read comics with my (previous) favorite being isekai, or another... more>> world stories, this story was shallow and an easy enough read with a clear enmity the main character is trying to defeat, and a goal he wants to clear.

Perhaps the first novel I read was in fact a reincarnation novel with a protagonist vowing for vengeance, but at the time I was already exposed to "dark" stories. While it is irrelevant online, a dear friend of mines who only read Japanese comics, was introduced to the world of Chinese literature though Tales of Demons and Gods. But she didn't like reading Chinese novels about female protagonists... There are some good out there, but she didn't like the schemes and cunning wit that the female protagonists displayed, it was "unsettling" how OP and character based the story was (or at least the one I was raving about).

What I'm trying to say is that while it seems this story doesn't please the veterans, its a perfect gate to the Chinese literature world. I'm sure new readers while find better story but I have to thank the author and the artist of the comic for pulling me in this far!

The fact I gave this 4/5 stars is to appear neutral. <<less

In progress.

So far I'm up to chapter 40, so things might change as the author develops story.

The lead concept of the story is engaging. Consciousness of MC returns back from the future, or comparable dimension, allowing MC to rewrite past life to better prepare for a future once lost.

Some issues to address. The poor to rich cheat or encyclopedic knowledge is problematic. A common material or cultivation path turns out to be uber and no one knew but him. That was a small suspension of disbelief. A whopper of a... more>> negative though is the constant reference to female physical 3 measurements. A bit juvenile and frankly so clumsily descriptive I feel like a lecher having to read it.

I haven't got in much headway in reading about the development of cultivation system progression yet. That's my favorite element of a read so I'm hoping to see where that goes. <<less

It's an alright power fantasy to be sure and the first Chinese novel I've read.

First half is awesome but second half brings your hopes up while at the same time letting you down since after a certain point, events in the later chapters pretty much plagerize the first half of the story.

The first web light novel that I've read and continuing. I was not a man of text as I hate reading with just text and what not without pictures. So i've been reading manga/manhwa/manhua and just 1 persons' comment had an effect on me to read the first 5-10 and here I am now. I only hate that I caught up too soon on this novel and gotta wait monthly. So I'm currently on a journey with Yun Che from Against the Gods. My actual 4.6/5 stars as I did... more>> a mistake with the star rate. <<less

This is a unique story because the beginning of the story has the MC wake up in his younger body after witnessing the destruction of everything he cares about in the future. He must make decisions with this “second chance” that prepare him for this horrible future in order to do things right. This involves cunning and deception along with high level battle tactics. This story provides great lore and fighting arts as well.

I'm the type of person that prefers to read the manga/manhua version instead of the light novel as I am interested to see how are the characters depicted as, how it originally should look etc. But looking at the rate at which the manhua releases, I couldn't bare to wait; so I end up taking TDG as my first light novel and I must say that it wasn't a let down. Though there were some parts where the author could of described better or took his time instead of rushing... more>> it, this is my top novel so far. The only down side is that this novel updates too slow in which my heart sank when I found out that it updates every month of so. But nevertheless, this novel is a master piece

Btw, I've read all the chapters and now currently waiting for it to update :) <<less

Chapter currently: Uptodate.

This series is quite nice with the either storyline/other characters (regardless MC/side character/enemies) in-depth growth from start to finish and not to forget the comedic/humor included.

Although most Xuanhuan novels tend to ergonomic-wise, I can recommend this series a try for those who are new/just start to novel-read. Dont go read the manga nor the anime.. Tends to left quite alot of details.

** PS: As of late for the slow release of chapter. Any news regarding this from the Author or those in-regard?

Thanks.

First novel that I have red, and that's probably why my rating is 3 currently.

It was very good at the start, and pretty decent in the mid parts, but for the last 10 chapters it got extremely bad. I guess the author just gave up on the novel, because those last 5-6 chapters could have been packed into one, and he spent half a year to write them (since one chapters comes out every month)

I would recommend this novel only to people that are starting to read xianxia, since... more>> it the concept of cultivation and would building is pretty easy to understand here so its fitting for the beginners of CN novels. <<less

Its the best novel and manhua (i read both) I have ever read. I really liked it, I love OP, badass MC's. The story is pretty good im around chapter 150 I only hope it wont be repetetiv in the future chapters. The romance plot is nice, but I wish it would develop faster and it would have more of it. The fighting is great. I didnt find any better xuanhuan novel yet.

And of course the MC is arrogand and has no respect towards elders in his City. They are... more>> only black gold or legend rank and ONLY around 50-70 years old. In his previose life he could kill them by only using one finger :D and he was almost 300 years old :D and he is indeed a stalker but... If you would see the love of your life after more than 200 years I wonder how you would react??? <<less

This novel is great.. I don't mind how arrogant or how confident the MC but they know their limits and capabilities. This already captured my interest. I won't say much more, it would be better to explore it for those who haven't read it yet... Over all its an unshakable 4 star for me...

Premise: Main Character goes back in time thanks to an item he was holding when he was defeated. Armed with the knowledge of his defeat, he aims/vows to take advantage of his second chance at the same history.

Concept: 4/5 - I think this is the reason why I got hooked on the Light Novel. In many cases, MC's get quite overpowered in stories, and in TDG the same sort of issues become prevalent early on. What is unique is typically these sort of rebirth concepts are just that, where the... more>> character gets a second chance at life. Not as often does the main character get a second chance at living the exact same life that he lived previously. So this concept at the time of translations was relatively unique.

Writing Style: 3/5 - The pace of the light novel can be considered slow. However, I do not mind the slower progression of the story as long as you can work in more characters and those issues. For example, in Mushoku Tensei there are chapters dedicated to the side stories and lives of characters that are involved with the MC, but shows their struggles and their differences in values and views. TDG unfortunately does not get quite as deep into these supplemental characters, and the writing makes many characters feel like pawns or items to be used for the MC to look even greater.

Main Character: 4/5 - I believe that this series had a capable MC that was quite overpowered but was overpowered not because he inherited such skill, but because he inherited the knowledge to become skilled and worked to achieve it. His antics and his personality make it easy to both feel the lighthearted moments and the serious moments.

Supplementary Characters: 2/5 - While the characters themselves can be interesting, the beginning of the light novel and the point in which I stopped reading every update to come out (roughly Chapter 439-442 I stopped waiting for each update) gives me the reader a sense that the author wanted to make a solid cast of characters. The groundwork was setup for it, but then left unfinished, and that leads me to the last section

Quality of Author - 1/5 - The author simply has too many different projects going on. There is serious concern that this series will not see a proper ending, if it sees an ending at all. I think he got so caught up in working on the MC that Mad Snail lost his own story, and I find it hard to believe that he does proper storyboard plotting of his work before writing it based on how the last 30 or so chapters have gone.

Overall - This is a worthy read up until the 300's chapter wise for fans of the rebirth/redo/wuxia/supernatural genre. It's not a read for everyone, it's not something that you can expect to end in a way that is satisfying to you the reader. I don't agree that all of Mad Snails work is bad, I agree that the majority of his works are rushed and the ending too all but one of his completed series are pretty brutal in terms of pacing and closure. If you are not a fan of the Genre and the premise outlined in this review, I would probably suggest moving on. 3/5 would be the most fair grade.

Also - Not to fling mud at other reviews, but leave the translation out of it. When getting a free translation, you typically and up with long series like these getting machine translated. Instead, this specific series for the parts I read after moving over from the manga were done 4-6 chapters a week, and not machine translated. Be thankful for free, and leave it out of reviews of a work. Just my opinion. <<less

Would like to give it four stars as it has kept me very entertained and there is plenty that is unique/new to this novel that makes it more interesting than many of the other generic xianxia you find but unfortunately the author is very inconsistent. He seems to forget a lot of things that has happened or just disregards them. After around 200 chapters the story becomes almost unrecognizable, the world building up to date is thrown out the window. Its like the author got bored of the story and... more>> decided to try another idea while keeping the same characters and so contrived a way to tack it on. However despite it reading almost like a different story its still fun to read and once again has some unique aspects to keep you entertained. <<less

It's got good bones, the story starts out with an interesting premise and world. It might be worth it if you enjoy power fantasies, cause that's what it quickly becomes, the MC is a gary stu, by chapter 60 it becomes apparent that he can't do anything wrong and everything falls into place neatly for him without any substantial obstacles, he can trick and fight people that are much better than him, apparently he holds grudged towards people from the future which hasn't happened. Like I say, good bones for... more>> a very interesting story, but the writing to fill it out just isn't there it seems. <<less
