Song Zhong’s parents were the geniuses of the sect. But they were apparently killed while on a mission when he was barely 6. As he apparently did not excel in any of the 5 elements, in fact, all 5 elements are in balance in his body. Thus, our fatty is deemed to be tr*sh and does not deserve the respect his parents had.

He is allowed to have one task, to collect garbage of the sect until he reaches the initial test-age where he has to prove that he is worthy to stay in the sect.

Our fatty has no choice but to cultivate the only heritage his parents gave him. A mysterious black pearl.

Unfortunately for him, this pearl seems to be only useful for… collecting garbage…

solid 3.7

Fast food type of xianxia peppered with many usual tropes found in chinese light novel (cheat items, sect and all its intricacies, tournament, revenge for parents, magical beast and harem)

Have a similar feel to Heavenly Jewel Change and A Will Eternal. If you like these 2 novels, I'm guessing you'll like this one too.

It was enjoyable to a point, it was interesting to see where somethings would go in the story and I wanted to see how some characters end up but they're basically forgotten at the point I read up to.
Spoiler

ZiRong and Shan'er

[collapse]

It just ends up incredibly predictable, something happens to MC, MC gets revenge, revenge family/sect then also seek revenge and it draws in more people, it is somewhat interesting at the start but it never really progresses beyond this sort of plot setup.

People betray the MC constantly, MC is incredibly s*upid at times but it doesn't effect the 'story' and things end up working out. 100 years goes by literally in the middle of a sentence and it's just normal even if he has several obligations.

Nearly all his women troubles could be sorted easily if he just lets them live 99% of the time in his natal artefact but even if it's one of the best cultivation places, he very rarely does this. The scale gets bigger but it doesn't really progress beyond MC is in X situation due to (betrayal|revenge|greed), he must now flee. It gets tiring after the 20th time.
Spoiler

MC got the rewards for helping a sect, sect doesn't want to give treasure so informs powerful person about it to ambush MC, MC is then forced to kill ambush guy, ambush guy's family then vows revenge/reward for justice and guess what happens? Guess what happened about 50 chapters prior?

[collapse]

There's also a lot of 'flying boat' combat which makes battles rather dull, not that the battles were much to talk about before the boats made their appearance.

It was interesting to see where his earlier women troubles lead to, but at some point it goes from somewhat describing their interactions in 'detail' to not even describing a kiss.

The story is pretty average, The adult scenes are pretty hot though and eventually the MC does become less fat and more muscly and bulky though he still gets called Fatty sometimes but I think its translation. Because there are times where he gets called by his name finally in the later chapters.

I'd honestly read more but sadly I think this got dropped ? I still recommend reading it if you're looking for a cultivation novel with decent 18+ scenes, the author kinda knows when to rush/skip it and show... more>> it.

Overall its a good read to pass time but if you're looking for something serious I dont think this will do since the world building is sorta lacking, cultivation is really good though but who knows, its still pretty early in the chapters. <<less

Be warned: This protagonist is not clever. He's not smart. He consistently isn't careful of obvious dangers and doesn't make much of an effort to protect those he cares about.

Additionally, there may not be a single actually 'good' character in this entire series. Everyone seems to be mostly selfish and definitely mu*derous.

But even after that, it's still enjoyable enough for me. It's a fairly solid Xianxia (+ sex).

I was okay brushing off most of the things but when he keeps making the same mistake then that's when I have to drop it. He kills first then asks questions later. And his internal dialog is most of the times talking about wanting to kill the next mortal that annoys him. I don't mind ruthless MC's but only when they have two brain cells to rub together. When some super rich guy that looks to have the wealth of a country comes by and annoys you it's best not... more>> to kill him then and there. Maybe wait and find out if his backing knows he's their before killing. He thinks every slight done to him must be rewarded with death. Just because that person stared at you condescendingly doesn't mean kill him <<less

I like the idea and stuff behind the novel but the writing quality/translation is kind of bad. Development is also skipped a lot andsame as details skipped. It feels like one of those fluffy cliche japanese harem novels but became a chinese novel. Everything in the story was really whatever the author wanted, it was forced with no development. This is one of the worst cultivator novels I have ever read. I only gave this a 3 because if you take at the negatives it was good and I wasable... more>> to make it to chapter 49. If you want a fluffy flat cultivation novel read this! (Cultivation aspect was good but everything else wasnt plus most of the encounters were way to cercumstancial) <<less

Very underrated novel. MC is one of more realistic characters I read in eastern novels. He isn't particulary intelligent, he can't always control himself, he is sometimes petty. But in the same time he can be generous and broadminded when situation call for it, like ... more>>
Spoiler

when he tries to reconcile with patriarch of Hou family and forgives his granddaughter to give him face. Although he still gets betrayed in the end, not challenging superpowerful family and trying to earn their backing instead is rational and smart choice. Normaly in xianxia MC would challenge immortals, when put in the situation MC was in. He eventually starts rampaging and challenging sects, but really this was the situation he was put in against his will, not because he chose to do so with premeditation.

[collapse]

Supporting cast is average, some characters are more then decent (insane Hou ZiRong), some are mediocare at best (like that first girl, unnecessery funservice character at this point).

Worldbulding is intriguing, especially his cultivation method. Shame that in translated chapters cultivation elements are rather lacking and author don't give us much lore on it. I would give it four stars, but since people are bunch of children who give this novel one star because their feelings where hurt, I bump it to five. <<less

A cultivation novel not hung up on cultivating

Sure, being able to kill in one punch is useful, but so it is to have personal connections and resources to draw upon, while MC gets a lot of the advantages that are usual for MCs he purposely tries to build up advantages outside just being strong, money, artifact, allies, a good part of the plot its getting new resources

MC is proactive and carnivore, so expect a lot of actions initiated by him, or bent to accommodate his interests

Some people get put off... more>> by the MC raping some women, but they were trying to kill him for petty reasons and he could have been perfectly justified on killing them, so getting away r*ped but alive still beats being killed, or would you like if they just got killed instead?

Its just pointless to read about a setting where might makes right and then complain about it, get over it or don't read it at all

There is no repetitiveness so far, because MC is proactive he is not simply waiting around for the next tournament or secret realm, and instead tries to produce the resources he will need and to make the most (or leech the most) of the situation he is in

Its almost like seeing a pay-to win-cultivator in a setting where just money is not enough to achieve his goals, so he still has to put in the work <<less
