It was Yan Zhaoge’s first time transmigrated into another world. He landed in a martial warrior civilization that was at the peak of prosperity. He ended up in the Divine Palace’s library, which collected and preserved the classics of the entire world from all fields of knowledge. However, a world-class calamity struck soon after, and even the Divine Palace was destroyed.

Yan Zhaoge’s soul once again transmigrated into another world. The twist was he arrived in the same world, except countless years have passed.

With his brain full of rare books and classics from the era of peak prosperity, Yan Zhaoge’s second transmigration to the present era was like a gamer who was used to playing hell mode suddenly finding himself playing the game on easy mode.

That was just way too awesome.

But before that, he would need to fix a problem.

“I’m not the main character? In fact, I’m actually the main character’s love rival and the antagonistic Mr. Perfect senior brother? This script is wrong!”

So far, it's easygoing and humorous. The pacing is wonky, alternately slow and fast, and the story kicks off before readers are comfortably situated and understand the setting, which may mirror the protagonist's situation. The novel's strengths lie in its interesting characters, genre savviness, and potential, but it's too early to know if they'll be reinforced or fade away. There are already three interesting characters—the usual "MC, " the actual protagonist, and the henchman—and a heroine or two might join their ranks. The protagonist's thoughts about his situation as a... more>> stepping stone are funny the first time, but not the third or fourth time. Unfortunately, there's been a lot of repetition already, and the story's barely started, so it's uncertain if the story will progress past that basic awareness. How the protagonist will respond to the "MC" is still unknown, and it's fun to wonder: Will the protagonist simply beat him down? Will he make the "MC" loyal to him? Will he tell the heroine (s) that he'll play the villain for the sake of the "MC's" growth and to create another genius for the sect, bringing the heroine (s) and later the "MC" under his sway? <<less

This author is great. While the background was initially lacking, that's exactly how all xianxia novels are. It's extremely entertaining and I hope that someone picks up the novel soon.

I give up.

The incessant drone of the story has defeated me so much so that I don't know whether to laugh or cry. In fact, I might just cough up blood. I might even suffer cultivation deviation from my severe mental injuries.

All jokes aside, this book has turned out incredibly disappointing from its initial decent start. Everything seems to tumble downhill around chapter 400. The starting concept is not all that novel, reincarnation with a twist. That twist is that the Yan Zhaoge is the epitome of an arrogant young... more>> master who's practically fated to be the stepping stone of some up-and-coming cookie-cutter protagonist equipped with some kind of cheat. However, Yan manages to circumvent this challenge thrice, with three consecutive prospective MCs-to-be by utilizing his even more broken cheat (supreme cultivation methods, huge breadth of knowledge, etc.)

However, at some point, the author just drops the ball on things and just lets the trope go. Yan himself becomes another cookie-cutter MC, albeit marginally more self-aware, and things just devolve into another traditional power fantasy. There's no real tension or conflict in the story, even as the cast of characters inevitably scales up because Yan always has an asspull for the situation or some miraculous power-up. Another flaw of the story are the absolutely egregious info-dumps that take up to 70% of a chapter, elaborating on the personal thoughts of one, or perhaps the global situation, but most awful of all is just explaining martial techniques or some kind of legacy. Typical xianxia tropes and phrases also frequently leak into the story, but that's more than fairly manageable if not for the author's heaven-shaking ability to spew out endless explanations for "Yin-Yang Martial Technique #63".

Overall, I'd give the story a 2/5. Initial first 400 chapters can be begrudgingly bequeathed a 4/5. Anything after that is just absolute garbage. <<less

Never have I read a story that fell so much in quality by betraying its own ideals it swore to protect. It became the monster it despised. I think its biggest mistake was making the MC too overpowered with the stolen cheats. The MC from that point on only had one direction to go in, which was the road of the typical xianxia smug young invincible master protagonist. The plot becoming convoluted and the enemies becoming irrelevant was only the effect of the crave for more challenges for... more>> the invincible MC. This positive feedback loop made everything a mess for a novel that wasn't meant as an instant-gratification one.

P.S. Morale of the story: don't make the MC invincible (unless you are a genius of an author and can create works like One punch man and Mob 100) <<less

The summary of this novel only applies to the first ~100-150 chapters, so let me attempt to summarize the rest of the chapters of what I've read so far.

  1. After the MC solves the "I’m not a main character? In fact, I’m actually the main character’s love rival and the antagonistic Mr. Perfect senior martial brother? This script is wrong!” problem, the MC goes on to traverse to different worlds!
  2. During the MC's travels, he has two very important goals which I will not spoil too much of, and naturally, through a bunch of fateful/fortuitous encounters becomes stronger than ever before!
  3. After getting stronger, the MC goes back to the Eight Extremities World and starts a passionate relationship with the female lead! But during this time period, there are also other sects secretly planning the downfall of the MC and his sect!
The exclamation marks was suppose to make my summary sound interesting in a sarcastic way, so I hope my point got across. Basically, the novel started out well, but then went down hill from there. At the beginning, the novel was pretty humorous and funny with snide remarks, but then every thing suddenly got serious and tragic. I'm a bit loss as to why some of the best supporting characters in my opinion got killed/disappeared to who-knows-where in the story's plot. It... more>> seemed like the author started out with a great idea then tried to find inspiration to continue the idea yet ended up referring to generic/cliché cultivation plot lines to continue the novel. The main issue I found is that all the parody/comedy that I was expecting based on the summary was gone after the first arc, so my interest in continue reading slowly diminished, but I still held on to some hope that may be the author would turn the story around to a comedy one again. But that never happened even after waiting for hundreds more chapters, so I am thoroughly disappointed by now.

To summarize my rant above: My interest in the novel is gone like the wind...

My suggestion after all my ranting though is: Please read the first arc to give the story a chance and then decide for yourself if it is worth continuing. <<less

Well the beginning is funny but as it goes on the amount of unexplained terms just increases without end. For example 罡气 was never explained. I think the author just assumes the audience is familiar with standard xianxia terms but I don't think that's a good idea. Genre savviness is one thing but if you have read a lot of xianxia works you'd know that they are actually different in how the powers work. So far none of the powers are explained, just the names are given without any further... more>> details. This makes it frustrating to read. Furthermore, the MC of the story (I mean the actual MC, not the one with the ring) continually finds himself in lucky situations whereas he thought the other "MC" is supposed to have godly luck and obtain all the items and girls and beat everyone. There's nothing more annoying than a guy saying "Oh woe is me, look at how pitiful I am! I don't have the other MC's godly luck and items" and then repeatedly gets lucky and obtains the stuff he wants. I'm only at chapter 27 so I don't know if he gets bad luck later on but this already basically contradicts the premise of the story. If the MC is actually the "lucky MC" then the story just falls prey to the very same tropes that it's criticizing. I was actually looking forward to the MC overcoming the "other MC"'s ridiculous items and luck with superior intellect and scheming but it seems that idea has just gone out of the window. Dropped. <<less

The novel started great. Really great! It's just that the novel flew over what it can provide, crashed and dug deep into a shitpile of a mess it is now.

The experience is up there but the story suddenly dived into a horrible tr*sh-taste potato chip bag, full of air, with unwashed sub standard potato used for its chips.

If you ever would like to read the novel, prepare yourself to tolerate the dao of 'Word count'. With how the narrative works you can read the start and the end of a... more>> chapter and you can mentally just picture how things went and youre still sticking through the story.

With how convoluted the dao of 'Word Count' is, you can jump on one to five chapters and youll find yourself saying, "oh I didnt miss anything".

Sadly this started around chapter 200+, the went full ret*rd mode after 400+.

A great example of how a chapter goes would be like;

Spoiler

A copy pasted sentence from the last chapter.

A unnecessary exposition of why, how, what does the move or equipment in mention, sparkled like the stars and it should be powerful than the thing that goes agaisnt it. Which may take up 2/5 or even 3/5 of a chapter.

Another description of whats happening, virtually not different from how it was described before.

A mention of a characters dialogue of the description of WHAT THE FVCK is happening again. Another extension of its description...

The fart of a move. Aka simple slash, stab, or palm, then....

Another description of the effects that can be minimized with "the character stumbled", but will be prolonged with another 3 - 5 sentences on how does a character stumbled.

Then chapter ends...

On the new chapter around 1/5 of what was described previously would be slapped in here. For f*ck sake...

An exposition / explanation of things that would be forgotten after sometime...

Another description... The thing is more powerful than this so just accept it, its much more profound than, and because it is the lesser thing would be destroyed, the marvel the bigger stuff has shown overshadows the lil thingy and thats why people like the bigger thing than the small thing. But the small thing is known to be famous, but its still not enough.

Jesus f*cking Christ man...

[collapse]

This is 1/5, for anyone who says this is 3 or above? You better get yourselves checked if you have a brain tumor or something.

In the world of xianxia / wuxia where there tolerable novels, this one is a blatant write up of getting $$$ with word count. The real dissapointing thing about it is that the story has potential, its just that the author mu*dered his own work.

Its like a chicken that is quite good when it was advertised, smells good and looks appetizing. After you order it and its in front of your table, you discovered it was pumped with air, its insides are undercooked, it wasnt even oven cooked as advertised but microwaved less than a minute, sprayed with superlative appetite inducing scent, and painted roasted brown with food coloring.

After you eat this garbage, youll get diarrhea, and youll probably die of salmonella.

Dump this shit. Dropped at chapter 780. <<less

one of the best CN novel here. The premise of MC which originally an arrogant young master and the trait of antagonist MC character (reincarnation, return to past, heaven defying luck) were played well. Later, the story included clan and world politics. Also everyone's favourite, OP MC

This review is a little long, but theres so much to say about this story that it cant be summed in a mare few lines :)

Before I start my review I would like to address one thing that keeps coming up and thats the trope of this novel, its gimmik, if youd like.

People keep complaining they were mislead by the novels title / synopsis, claiming this wouldve been a novel thats all about our MC vs the "novels MC", the one with all the luck that pulls stuff out... more>> of his arse when things get dangerous, but they are wrong.

If they, the complainers, wouldve bothered reading the synopsis they wouldve realised that the MC vs MC arc will obviously be the first arc as mentioned in the synopsis:

Spoiler

But before that, he needs to fix a certain problem.

"I'm not a main character? In fact, I'm actually the main character's love rival and the antagonistic Mr. Perfect senior martial brother? This script is wrong!"

[collapse]

As for the senior brother, thats just what everyone calls him through out the novel So anyone reading this dont expect our MC to fight it out with an MC look alike for the entire novel.

Anyways, to my review.

Writing style - 4/5

The writing style is good, he doesnt dawdle too much on each arc and keeps the stories flow... flowing.

The translators start a bit iffy but as time goes on the quality goes up, kudos to volare novels for a good job translating.

Only problem that knocks a point down is the info dumps, which are, in some cases, important information that will pop up in the latter parts of the stories, its just too hard to read it some times and youll be tempted to skip.

Story - 5/5

A very original idea, a breath of fresh air compared to the usual xanxia trope.

There is no lack of humorous moments, sad moments, epic moments and most of the time, even knowing the MC will find a solution eventually you will be kept on edge hoping non of your favorite side characters die.

As for filler chapters, such as the MC making some speciffic item or going to some specific place, are, in my oppinion, well executed, they dont feel like the author is trying to add to his word / chapter count nor are they useless expeditions that will lead nowhere and will have an effect on future chapters.

Characters - 5/5

MC - yan zahoge is our MC, hes a bit aloof, arrogant, funny, loves being looked up to and just about pulls this story around on a leash.

Hes well thought out, cunning and is a coltivation maniac.

All in all, its all youd ask for in a main character, fun reading about his exploits and waitong to see what will his next expedition give him.

Side characters - the author did an amazing job with these guys, from the MCs future love interest to his senior uncles to his junior aprentices, they, the main side characters, are all well written, have their own defined personalities, and as time goes by, unlike in other novels, they grow and stay relevant.

Antagonists - 4/5

While I did mention that the MC vs MC trope will be mostly confined to the first arc, there is no lack of interesting antagonists with interesting perks, one has reincarnated, one has come back in time and so on. My only problem with these characters is that you would usually expect more from them, while their ends are usually satisfying they still feel a bit empty.

But worry not, because these are jist the tip of the iceberg.

There are constant schemes between the 6 main sects, out MC being in one of them, enemies scheme against each other, allies are weary of each other, ready to jump and assisst even their enemies, just so their allies dont become too powerful that they will completely eclips them.

In general, there is no lack of enemies, and most of them are not your usual " you stood on my shadow, now prepare to die by my... uncles hands" type of antagonists.

World building - 3/5

While the author has built an amazing world, defined each area well and explores a fair amount of it, the world, even up to chalter 500, still remains confusing, what sects border other sects, the location of their territories and if the world is bloody round or flat?!.

3 points for being extremely detailed, -2 for being confusing.

Romance 5/5

People will take the piss out of me giving 5/5 for the mostly non exiatant romance, but thats because they have no vision.

Reading my review up to here, youd have already realised that most characters here are intricate and "living" beings, so that should be right for their "feelings too.

Through out the story, rather than just having girls fly out of his ass and sticking to him like leeches, or a dumb bimbo of a love interest that will pout every time the MC flirts with her, the author slowly builds up the MC and his future lovers relationship in different aspects, be it friednship, mutual respect or something of that kind while slowly and subtly nudging them slowly towards each other. And actually by around chalter 560 does the author start taking big steps in the romance section.

I am giving this a 5/5 because im an optimist and have my fingers crossed hoping the author plays his cards right in making this a, very possible, rare romace success in xianxia.

In summary, I believe this novel is a must read, most of the people that will read it and stick with it will, in my oppinion, enjoy it a lot adding in the release speed you got nothing to worry about long lasting cliffs :)

Thanks for reading my review

Happy reading and enjoy your day :) <<less

Great novel, no doubt, sadly there's only 39 chapters thus far and it's just getting started with the MC barely powering up even a little bit. It's quite funny to read, the MC is using his knowledge to bash down the "pre-written" script of the main character template guy (ye jing) and replacing it with his own. The MC template guy is following the regular script of some mc's, he starts out weak, the "evil wealthy boy" stole his girlfriend and now he's butthurt and wants to get back at... more>> him, and he received some "OP" items and all. The only thing is that there's a huge difference between a real main character and this template guy, he's actually unbelievably s*upid, his head must've been dunked in water, because he makes weird assumptions and his reasoning is extremely twisted, he's basically just trying to find someone to blame for his own inadequacies. Even before the protagonist took control of this new body in that world, the previous master of that body did not actually do anything worthy of such resentment. He basically went in, saw a pretty girl, made a pass on her and she abandoned her "childhood sweetheart" for power, wealth and stability, she made a choice by herself after weighing the choices and threw away the template MC. But the MC template guy is acting like the protagonist went and bashed her head with a stone club whereafter he dragged her by the hair to his cave or something... She wasn't even threatened. But somehow this protagonist is the evil of all evils now and he made up a lot of grudges. Later on he becomes more like an antagonist template than a main character template and goes all crazy and stuff.

Anyway, it's quite amusing to read this novel, it's somewhat different from other novels and I recommend just reading it for the comedy, don't think too much about the MC template guy and other people, it will just piss you off, just think of them as comedic relief characters or something and you will surely enjoy this. There's no doubt that the protagonist will ALWAYS be one or two or three steps ahead of this ret*rded MC template guy and everyone else for that matter, so I think you will be disappointed if you expect some heavy rivalry and "real" challenges. In the first place, this author is and has always been (if you read his other work, history's number 1 founder), really bad at writing fighting scenes, it's just not immersive, so go for the comedy and don't pay too much attention to the fights. As of chapter 39, this is undoubtedly a 4 of 5 stars in my mind, not perfect but undoubtedly amusing enough to read. <<less

I can see where everyone is going with their "it's so different", and "it mocks the usual tropes", but so far I don't agree with it one bit.
Fair warning, the whole review could constitute a vague spoiler.

Yes, the main character is placed in a different position than usual, in the place of the one that usually bullies the main and tries to get his parent's influence to help in that task. Yes, there is a character that sounds like your standard main character (weak and bullied at first, grew... more>> stronger at an unnatural pace, possibly in possession of some hidden goods).

But far from being able to mock the usual tropes, it goes right into them. I mean, there are multiple factions that try to bully the main character (despite his status), he possesses some godly knowledge that lets him improve faster and beat those that are supposed to be his equals, and the most important point is that annoying tendency of always having a crowd so that people can be shocked at every single action.

That said, while it doesn't seem that different from your usual cultivation novels, it also doesn't seem to be a bad one so far, and the protagonist doesn't seem to be like those mu*dering machines we see in most of those novels.

Translation-wise, let's just say that none of the translators so far made it unreadable, and nothing particularly sticks out in term of bad quality.
That said, even the most recent translator basically disappeared right after telling he would do 2 chapters a week + sponsored (without saying an amount or putting a progress bar/amount donated, so not playing it clear with us), and nothing after a bit more than a month. It's a bit early to say that it's abandoned again, but it's safe to assume that we will not be seeing a regular pace for this novel in the near future (I'd love to be proven wrong though).

All in all, 15 chapters of a correct length should be enough for you to decide if you want to stick it into a reading list to watch for future updates or not. I personally think that while it's not as ground breaking as most of the reviews seem to indicate, it's sufficiently intriguing for me to recommend giving it a try. <<less

I have to say I wasn't expecting a novel of this kind. The antagonist becoming the MC? Overturning the norm of the MC being weak than becomes OP and tr*shes and dominates everyone? The same u disrespect me I kill u shit? This novel is wickedly awesome! It's so different from the norm and that's what makes it so unique. It's not even trying to but it's breaking all the rules (in a good way). The author is very creative and a freaking genius and the translator is doing a... more>> great job for translating the novel. At the moment update is slow, but I hope it picks up and I can't waitto read more. For those tired of the usual MC first is tr*sh than becomes OP and built a harem and is looking for something VERY different, this novel will knock ur socks off! I guarantee??? Try the novel, it might surprise u. <<less

So, like a lot (all?) of the xianxia novels in the last 5 - 10 years, HSSB starts with an interesting premise: the MC, although possessing his own unique circumstances - does not fit into the hero archetype. He is in fact, as he himself points out several times early on, the kind of semi-evil side character that stereotypical heroes stomp all over on their way to glory.

Unfortunately, his response to this is to kill all of the hero archtype characters when they try and springboard off of him (his... more>> own 'gifts' being ancient knowledge of OP techniques and lost skills), quickly resulting in him becoming the defacto hero and simultaneously robbing HSSB of its uniqueness after the first 300 chapters or so. Afterwards, the storyline will be familiar to readers of almost all xianxia novels: reveal bad guy, plot against bad guy while gathering power, defeat bad guy, wrapup the story arc, repeat ad nauseum.

That said, as a generic xianxia novel, it is quite well written and interesting in and of itself, so if you don't mind that sort of thing, its worth a read. Just don't expect it to rise out of the heap of webnovels by authors who had a good idea to start but couldn't keep it going. <<less

Imagine if the protagonists of Martial World, Sovereign of the Three Realms and Tales of Gods and Demons were all part of the same story, and our protagonist was actualy the Arrogant Young Master, interesting isnt it? well it is for the first.. 50 to 100 chapters, you see although the novel really makes fun of the 3 major cliche protagonists that exists in the genre, the Lucky Relique finder with unyelding personality, or the Soul of an Expert that takes over the Body of a tr*sh cultivator, and The... more>> Expert that Goes back in time of when he was a young teenager but holding all his knowledge with him, its an interesting concept because no matter how many xianxias you read.. the odds of the protagonist being one of those 3 is like.. 99.9%, its so high, that even the protagonist of this very story is also one of the three, he is also a reincarnator.. but wait.. he reincarnated TWICE! HA! Very unexpected eh? totally fresh and original!

To the Story now, well the first thing you will notice is that nothing.. NOTHING.. can shock this protagonist, everything is always under his meticulous calculations, every possible variable is already on his mind with every possible counter-measure to prevent a negative outcome, it would be actually pretty smart if we could see his actual line of thought so we could follow it instead of everything happening and in the end he "this was my plan all along!" but who would do that right? that would require quite a clever storytelling skill, to describe how he is thinking, comes to a point that every time he says "Theres X amount of Outcomes, the most probable is that..... will happen" and then he describe the other two, the odds of he actualy being right with his first guess is 100%, even if other characters come with "what ifs.." he will just dismiss them bcuz the protagonist have the supreme knowledge of all ages, he is never wrong.. NEVER WRONG!.. other things that I find interesting is how the protagonist power ups are always convenient, sometimes he cultivates for like.. 3 years without powering up, the he suddenly power up for no reason, then the next time he cultivates he takes one year, being a higher level, and manage to power up easily, its like.. the PLOT requires him to power up at that speed, is not that he works for it, the same as his father, his father was at a low nooby cultivation level for 40+ years.. then suddenly.. in the next 20~30 years he power up SO DAMN FAST that is amazing! lets put this in number to explain lets say that the power levels goes from 1 to 50, for 40 years his father stay in the rank 25, he is an elder of a Clan, and he is doing a lot of things and he is the youngest rank 25 in history, alright, but then.. suddenly.. the plot requires him to power up so what happens? he reach level 35 in 5 years.. for someone that took 40 f*cking years to get level 25, to level up that much in such a short amount of time.. why didnt he do before?! bcuz it was not convenient to the plot! :D HA!.. and from there he power level so hard that reminds me of people using those Instant Max Level of WoW, he is reaches max level so damn fast, as fast as his son, bcuz he is also a genious, and doesnt matter how strong the protagonist is, his genious father will ALWAYS.. be one rank above him... I can go on and on and on about every bad thing that this novel have, like.. everything feels rushed, theres barely any world building.. just like "They arrived at the Plane X.. " and thats it.. no world building, just the crew going straight to the point, people dont sleep, people dont eat, people dont sociolize, people are workaholics in this novel.. the protagonist is always working, he is never out to learn new places or to enjoy his life a bit, you know.. like any young man would.. no.. he is just like a cultivation machine that never rests.. Other thing, he is good at everything he does, he is a Mary Sue 100%, making pills? He is the man! Making Weapons? He is the Man! Making Arrays/Enchantments? He is the Man! Need the Strongest Fighter ever? He is the Man! he is just too good, idk why he is even on a journey.. what the hell is his motivation? I see none, at earlier chapters we get this HUGE thing about his Mother, that disapeared when he was Young, and that sh*t is dragged for 1150 chapters, im not even kidding, its literal 1150 Chapters for him to meet his mother, and you would expect some emotion right? well if our protagonist wasnt a Machine he would've displayed some.. but he just "Mo.. ther..?" and then turns around and they start talking about business and the possible war.. I mean.. I get it, the war is upon them.. but c'mon you haven't seen that woman sinse you were 3 years old, and now you are nearly 60! What this Novel Lacks? Lacks Motivation, Lacks Worldbuilding, Lacks Emotions, Lacks Pace, Lacks Decent Storytelling, Lacks Decent Writing.. What this Novel have? It has a really cool and unique Concept, that is thrown away 100 chapters later and just becomes this generic mary sue xianxia story that is Non-stop Action.. Want something Similar but Still a bit unique? go read Womanizing Mage, Warlock of the Magus World and Great Demon King, the first if you like an Echi Harem, the third if you like Romantic Harem with some Echi moments, and the second if you dont want any of that shit.. bcuz Leylin doesnt can't feel love! <<less

The idea is unique, but it gets old fast and then its just another know-it-all MC doing stuff that never goes wrong. Still the MC can be really badass at times, so this is another solid 4 - just remember to skip the fights.

TBH my only big complaint about this novel is actually shocking for once, I felt that this stroy would have actually been more entertaining for me with a harem tag, like sya what you want but it just felt empty and seems like a waste because the MC is this personification of perfection, martial genius, handsome looks, monstrous background, big wig father etc. he goes around acheiving all the magnificent feats but I feel like it was a bit bland without much romanic interaction until like 600 chapters in, and... more>> even then, it wasnt handled properly, like, its almost as if they both just woke up one day and were like, wow what are these feeling, oh, I see, I love him/her, well... cool, moving on. Like that was literally it. We get such a badass heavens chosen male MC but I still wanted to see the arrogant mistress getting roflstomped by MC, or the cold and aloof, detached from worldly matters senior sister getting soft for the MC after he shows his prowess or SOMETHING, I jus feel like he was doing all that work all over the 3 worlds without any "reward" you feel me. <<less

A satire on generic xianxia rebirth novels becomes a generic cliche xianxia, unironically at that. The author lacks a serious amount of Self Awareness. I question his intelligence that he started out writing a novel that was supposed to provide an alternate viewpoint on the generic MC antagonist. However the true MC is an op god reincarnated that knows everything ever worth knowing and out mc's the MC antagonist and the story devolves into a generic cliche story.

Simply put one of my favorite stories for the adventures of Yan Zhaoge (and appearances by his awesome Dad Yan Di). I appreciate how the plot builds up and grows.
Spoiler

I enjoy the xianxia stallion novel subversions from our double transmigrating time skipping flag destroying cunning protagonist MC.

Most importantly the best back up is a Dad who reigns over all others no matter at what cultivation level

For all the focus there is on Ye Jing (first antagonist) being a generic Xianxia protagonist, you would think that our author would put some effort into the characterization of the main character. However, this never really happens. Other novels that are slightly more well written will dedicate the first arc to give the MC some kind of defining experience that uncovers or changes his personality greatly (see: ATG, ISSTH, RMJI, Desolate Era). If I read ATG I know very quickly that the MC is stubborn, has poor morals but... more>> a powerful familial love and commitment. If I'm reading Reverend Insanity I know there's no method to power that's too low for our MC. If I'm reading RMJI I know our MC is suspicious of everyone, calm and calculating, and a loner. Who is Yan Zhaoge? Why is he the main character of the story? What are his strengths, weaknesses, fighting style, and personality traits? There's no answer to any of these questions. I might as well go out onto the street and go root for the next jogger I see, I'll know about as much about them as I do about Yan Zhaoge.

The fact that the author is aware that the genre is filled with a bunch of poorly fleshed out, generic garbage, even alludes to it in his writing, and then decides to make a main character who is a very clear self-insert with no defining traits as a character honestly baffles me.

Three stars since the fight scenes, dialogue, and translation quality are are OK. <<less
