Greatly enjoyed the story. I was initially introduced by the bewitching and boner inducing OP of season 2, which is so stunning, it led me to the marathon the first season in one ago and then start the novel. Ah, another thing that particularly made me start the story was how adorable Xiaoyu was in the 2nd OP. Truly an embodyment of 'cuteness is justice'. Her adorableness was a big reason for me wanting to check out the anime or better said, donghua and then the novel. I wonder if... more>> I can paste links here, I would advice everyone to check out the 2nd season OP at least. It's beatiful and adorable. It heals my worn out soul seeing how cute Xiaoyu is.

Anyways, overall, I greatly liked it. I think the ending was a tad rushed, nay, quite rushed and didn't cover enough of the 'after story' relationship. I wanted to see more, much more of what happened with Xiaoyu, Coral, Yaeko and the other as well. Especially Cao Qingqi, yet we end by catching a glimpse of solely the male characters, which albeit is still good, leaves me quite unsatisfied.

Ending aside, doesn't change the fact I liked a lot the story and the characters. It's by no means a masterpiece, but as someone who usually measure a story by the degree of enjoyment it brings, as well as how much it moves me and is able to engrave itself in my memory, I definitely regard it as a very good story.

I loved some arcs especially a lot, the Sardinia one is probably my favourite. The Japan one, well, both ones, were also very good. And what about the revelation of Xiaoyu's past? It was chef kiss.

Yes. I greatly loved the 'romantic' arcs and it's honestly shocking for me give my exprience with CNs usually leaves me quite unsatisfied on this regard. But it's exactly for this reason that I find... ah, yes, 'frustrated', so darn 'frustrated' over the lack of 'after stories'. Damn it. I want more.

I obviously enjoyed the other elements as well. Cultivation in modern era is a very good setting. MC is usually very... amusing to say the least, though sometime he's too much for my taste. Nevertheless, greatly liked him as well. Ah, yes, there was also that arc where
Spoiler

he had to live a lifetime alone as punishment planned by his previous life self, the one where he lived until dying of old age awaiting for his 'soulmate'

[collapse]
that was fantastic. I greatly loved that part. Felt incredibly really like... ah, yes. Experiencing the secular life once again after you reached immortality to breakthrough. Felt truly like such experience. Either way, I loved how down to earth that experience was. Some of those quotes were worth noting down, as someone who... yeah, worship the idea of romance, fictional romance but is completely aware of how different real life is, these sentences stirred me profundly.

From chapter 1210.

'When you were five years old, you would run to a field one kilometer away for a bbutterfly.

When you were ten years old, you would run through the streets and lanes to find an ice cream.

When you were 19 years old, you would go to a foreign city just for a person you liked.

When you were 29 years old, you would simply find anyone to spend the rest of your life with.'

"Shu, most people do not marry the person they like best. Everyone has changed from 'it must be you' to 'you will do'. You have to make do!"

Ahh. Re-reading them... makes me feel so moved once again. When an author is able to stir my feelings so much, it's a sign of good writing. No. Let's be honest, I'm subjectively finding the story really moving, relatable, great. Yeah. There's no need for excuses: I love it, simple as that.

No need for complicated analysis or whatever. I just really liked the story and some parts were able to touch me so deeply I want to treasure these feelings. This is enough for me to regard a story as a great story. Not quite 'masterpiece' level as it definitely has clear weaknesses, though I'm not one to score objectively but rather totally subjectively on emotions. I think the main reason is truly the rushed or unsatisfying ending, haa.

So it's really closer to a 4.5, so I round it at 5.

Doesn't change the fact that I greatly loved reading it. I'm most certainly going to check out the author's other series. <<less

Wonderful novel axed by endless Chinese propaganda. Endless unity is great, silencing opposing views points is fine, lack of freedom for everyone is fine while the MC somehow is allowed to skirt the very values that the author is boasting about. I have no issue with the story or even praising China, but there is no need for half a chapter every 10 or so chapters to be dedicated to praising ccp views

I think the author is good at writing comedy and characters. The jokes are still funny hundreds of chapters later. Character growth is nice. From an MC who only cared for himself and his sister, to one who shoulders heavy responsibilities. There is also that mystery of the past that slowly resolves itself. Most of the novel is funny and interesting.

The weakpoint of this novel are the ending parts. Specially where we go into complicated and serious parts of the story. It felt short and meh. The final villain/s are... more>> also kind of weak af in terms of character. Also, the romatic interest/s are confusing and a sometimes uninteresting. There are many things not explicitly said, you would need to infer on it.

Overall it is still a good novel. If you liked this novel. Also try The First Order, I liked that one better <<less

It is a good read but some they rush things and it is already finish but there are some uncleared things that are not said. I anticipate some that there are some that I wanted to be clarified and have a clear ending on an issue but there was not, for example

Spoiler

The issue on Lu Shu's relationship on Xiaoyu, Coral and Yaeko. What happened there? There seems to be an agreement between Xiaoyu and Coral but there was never a revelation on the ending on how and Yaeko just sunk and there was no news from her.

Lu Shu's relationship with the Puppet masters along with Cao Qingci had they resolved their issues and what? There was no behind the scene for those kinds of clarification on their character development and relations.

Another is the Chen Qiuqiao, he died in the war but then he seems to be alive again. I don't know if they used the same method like Ouyang's case but there was no indication. Is it what Shi Xuenjin did or another? There was no clarification after the war at the end but at the end of the war there is a time skip

I don't know if the issues are resolved or not as they are not clarified and the ending is rather abrupt not telling what happens afterwards.

[collapse]

If any other have any link of the continuation of the series that other sites might have but some don't please link some as there are no clarified details at the end. <<less

The first 100+ chapters are pretty 'meh', but if you stick with it, it gets better.

The GOOD:

  • A somewhat interesting 'powers' system and world dynamic
  • Plotting is quite well focused for the most part
  • Interpersonal relationships between the MC & various characters is fairly good most of the time
The BAD:

  • Author's pro-China nationalism/racial bias is a bit excessive.
  • Character development is not really a thing. The characters are a bit detailed- they just don't 'go' anywhere really.
  • Forced plotting isn't super obvious usually- but still used.
  • Plot armor in this one is a bit novel- where 'failures' are comedic relief.
  • Another 'faux harem' MC who (mostly) ignores all candidates intent.
  • Female MC's personality is sometimes very caricature & ridiculous.
  • Takes most of the chapters to find out wtf title is about.
    Spoiler

    1106 to be exact

    [collapse]
  • Ending is 'ok'- a bit disappointing compared to the rest
    Spoiler

(abrupt end, then unexpected epilogue & a few pages of wrap up)

    [collapse]
The Different:

  • Spoiler

The 'twist' on his powers is interesting I guess- but it's likely you'll see it coming.
The intelligent rat army is a bit novel.

The bridge to another world & subsequent battle vs invaders (right after 'winning' isn't 'normal' for this kind of story)
    [collapse]
Altogether, though- it 'took longer to get there', but was worth reading.

One word for this novel...

Lu Shu is a fcking delight!!! He's so fcking funny and I'm sad I cannot see him anymore now that I finished reading the novel TwT

This is a slow buildup novel. The cool part started at chapter 100 or so. If you're not a patient type of a person, then this novel is not for you

What I like about this novel is that, the cultivation theme is different than any other cultivation story. In this universe, there's no cultivation. Now that there is one, we'll see... more>> people's reaction towards it. At first scared, disgust, outrage, just kill those freaks, God! But slowly, they accept the difference, welcome it, and hey, maybe I can become one who wield extraordinary power and be the hero that my child self wish to be!

Lu Shu is a typical OP Character. But he is OP not because he's strong (at first). It was because he knew how to choose his battle. That guy is strong as hell? Then I'm out of here. This guy is weak as hell? Then YOLO!!! It's not like those mainstream novel, where he can immediately fight overpowered 100 years old final boss after a couple of months or even weeks training. I'm still laughing my as* off when he crashed a battle, looking super cool, but then immediately ran away because he realized there's too many enemies 🤣🤣🤣

There's a couple of thing that I don't like. First, when the cultivation level was changed from ABCDE to 12345, but they never actually used it and stick with ABCDE. Then, there's a school competition arc, where the author cut it halfway through because of a more important mission. I know this novel came out after Boku no Hero Academia, but I still think they should at least do it like BnHA Sport Festival; where the characters were busy with the competition while the authority tried to chase the bad guy on the sideline. Cuz, when you cut it halfway like that, it almost like this arc is here just for a throwaway.

Spoiler

There's also about the female lead's true identity I'm confused of. At first, Lu Shu thought Coral is the reincarnation of his girl friend. But turned out, it was his own sister. Then, who's Coral? How did she use Lu Shu's previous girl friend's name as her own false name? Because there's a connection between Lu Shu and Coral; with how Coral needed Lu Shu's Ancient Tree to keep on living and all

[collapse]

But, all in all, this is a great novel. Lu Shu's ridiculous antic is enough reason for me to enjoy this wild, wild ride of a story 😁 <<less

I will update my opinion for each one hundred chpts I read from now on. Love.. Love is presented in this novel in many occasions but its not heavily emphasized. The MC's love for his younger sister because that's all he has in this world. And Coral.. Man I really wish she will be with him in the future (I'm on chpt710 I read from the wuxiaworld app on andriod not on webnovel). In the end and throughout the book his goal is ultimately protecting the people he love, so... more>> far his sister and Coral: who was forced by the world tree to forget about him and idk what's gonna happen in the future. Anyone who read ahead can tell me pls? I don't mind or care for spoilers thank u. <<less

This is supposed to be a "humorous" novel, I suppose, and the point of the novel is to find the MC's antics and actions funny, with plenty of action sprinkled in the mix. The problem is that the comedy is terrible, and the action is mediocre.

Story is pretty average as well. You've got terrible dialogue, with terrible characters, along with an average story and action sequences. It just kind of gets blander and blander the more and more you trudge into this novel.

Spoiler Edit: also there's blatant nationalism now and china victim mentality (calling japan unethical when they themselves rank below japan at being ethical).

Personally I started getting bored as this novel went on. The idea of this novel (distress points system) is interesting, just like Xia Ping from GLD, but it feels as if the plot is forced? Or rather it's a wrong world for this? In GLD the world has many races and the MC was always f*cking around with others, here for some reason one of his main points source is his 'friends' and 'classmates'.

If you got nothing better to do, maybe you can read this to pass time, but by... more>> no chances is this a very good novel. <<less

In a modern world where spiritual qi has started to become abundant again, strong cultivators are getting stronger and some normal humans have started to awaken.

Our MC is an orphan that's living with another orphan who he treats like his own sister. He has a cultivation system different than the rest - he requires the negative stressors from people to gain him points. He will then use those points to buy a small variety of edible stuff to help him shorten his cultivation time. Thus, the comedic part of this... more>> novel is our MC becomes a live walking troll, annoying all those around him with carefully planned s*upid comments.

The speed of our MC leveling is fast, but the plot progression is excruciatingly slow. After 300+ chapters, only about half a year has passed in novel time. I took away half a star rating for that. Then at times, very rare but still happens, when chapters are clearly translated by someone else because they have different names for people, items, skills etc and reads like unedited Engrish. That completely ruined my immersion into the story, so another half a star rating taken away.

Overall, you need to get past the beginning chapters to enjoy this novel and bank a bunch of chapters due to the slow plot progression. <<less

I dont care if this novel is one of the most popular in China as of now. The genre is already repeatitive as always.. Only the attitude, names of characters, and the plot of the novel has changed. I know its hard to make a novel that will get popular but what readers want is how the story went that they might want to read more.. For starters who is not patient in reading a few chapters of introductions, read only when chapters reached past 100 chapters then read it... more>> in one go so you can understand the story.. I haven't read this, and it looks really interesting, but... I really feel that the cover is way too cringy.

I spat out water and choked...

Whatever, still going to read the novel.

... more>> --- ------------------- ----------------------

The cover doesn't really fit the novel. If you don't like the cover, just try the novel anyways if you feel like it.

The novel's fun to read. The characters are interesting and feel real. The MC specializes in being a troll (he even admits it lol) and his little 'sister' is fun. I usually get annoyed by little girls in novels, but Lu Xiaoyu is awesome. The pet is cute too. Side characters are nice too. The MC's personality is more interesting to me than the average CN novel, so that's a really big plus. He's selfish, but has morals. He's ruthless, but will help others, etc.. He's a troll, but he's kind. He's smart, but not overly arrogant. MC's system is pretty mysterious and his powers are cool.

This is a funny novel. I'd say the worst thing about the novel is that the pacing is slow. 200+ chapters hasn't really gotten anywhere serious yet. I don't mind it though, since the novel is quite enjoyable. Some info dumps, but I just skim through them.

So, I'm pretty sure someone's going to slam the Racism tag on the novel, but, so far at least, it isn't racist. Sure, a bunch of non-Chinese people are going to be killed, but in times of war, it's pretty normal. Spies get killed, well, that's normal too. Besides fighting, there hasn't really been any racism.

The world is pretty interesting! Lots of mystery. There's cultivation for those with aptitude and/or superpowers for those who awaken. It's enjoyable to read how society changes and adapts to have metahumans around. I think it's been pretty realistic, or at least plausible.

Overall, I like this novel and would recommend it if you like this type of stuff. <<less

It's a novel with a system (shop, lottery,...) but other people got superpowers, too. Even so it's boring. The system doesn't do anything (no talk, no missions). The lottery endlessly spawns the same item over and over. The comedy doesn't work for me (annoying remarks, is how MC generates his system points to buy lottery tickets). It might also be a case of bad translation or chinese idioms that don't carry over well.

I normally don't mind (some) nationalism in novels but this novel starts out as MC orphan just wants... more>> to survive and make money, no other obligations. To several chapters of him swearing under Chinese flag fist raised that it's great to die for your country (welcome to the military). And this theme is then rinsed and repeated.

At this point the novel got nothing going for me: I don't care for these characters. System novels are supposed to give some gratifying game elements but this one does not. MC is already super strong so not much challenge to be expected. The first dungeon he was thrown into, his ability set pretty much made him immune to everything.

All in all I drop the novel because its not entertaining to read. <<less

This novel had everything to be good, but the author spoiled most of it with the character of the MC's sister girl. Besides the MC's sister being annoying, the MC always acts like an idiot when she's around. The best parts of the story are when the MC is without his sister. I don't understand how the author sabotaged himself by creating this boring character in the story

My only gripe with this novel is how blatant the subtlety of the brainwashed are, or whatever they have is called. They acknowledged an incident was censored but deemed it as a normal every day thing, must be quite an experience to have this mindset, and felt odd overall in some parts regarding their system of *cough* governance. Being self aware to the wrongs of their society yet fully adapted to it seems to be a nightmare to me.

This China China China thingie gets worse as it goes further. It's story written for Mandarin Fanatics. The author doesn't even like Pinyin.. If the story were more Global or at least less nationalistic, it would've been a really great read.

The way that the author expresses his hatred or even disgust for people from other countries like Japan is seriously annoying.

Now the next thing to mention is that the cultivation levels, the grading etc are not really all that good.

Honestly, you could say that it's not even systematic.

If you want a good (the best) modern cultivation novel, go for Cultivation Chat Group. (Read the MTL or Raws if you can first. The official translation is mediocre. I am talking about cultivation chat group btw, not this novel.) <<less
