The Lazy King

Description

By the time I realized it, I had reincarnated into another world.

I kept sleeping, and at some point I became a Demon Lord.

Even though I never wished for it.

But for me to not have to work, this world is the best. It must be true that good things happen to good people.

The flavor of Sloth is as sweet as honey. Glory, diligence, virtue, or honor. I have no interest in anything like that.

What’s there to hide? The Lazy king is… none other than me.

This one is one good... MC is lazy as hell, but he is OP too. Anyway, the demon have ranks, attribute such as the sins (7 sins), and army. There are angles and human, but this does not have much to do with human. The fight is awesome and the plot is great as well. For now it end, but according to the last and final chapter, I believe that there will be a second season, but not sure when.

Finally reading all of this. And the first emotion that I feel is tired.

The story is not bad, but is a not that good either. Plot-wise, this story dont have much with little events going on. It has some good and funny moments, but...

1. Char pov is just too long. Why the author repeat the same events with boring side-characters that readers dont have any interest whatsoever (gluttony demon lord for example) ? It only have 16 chaps for god's sake. Even if the chapter itself is long, I... more>> feel that the long povs are the only to drag the story about someone who doesnt do anything.

2. Even worse than that, author dont change pov from a specific event. It disrupt the chapter badly.

3. The action scene sometime is good and fast-paced, but sometime long af and monotone.

4. The story doesnt have any thing to do with the MC. He is just... there. No goal, no motivation, nothing. All he does is sleep. The fact that other side- chars is pretty well-written is the only way I can read till the end. In some sense, it is a inferior version of overlord.

Overall, it is not my taste, even though the plot and charaterization is decent. To me, pov is at it best when used as a tool to explore the world-building and side-char emotion over a specific event, not to drag a already intense scene. It is like: when a battle is reach the climax and suddently you have a whole ep of filler to tell a char's background story. <<less

Perfectly engaging and entertaining! I long for more chapters! Portrays sloth closest to its absolute meaning amongst all others I've read.

Can’t say I hate it, I had read lots of high ranking light novel but this ending is gold to me. Reading throughout the story, the my brain create such a beautiful anime. The character setting is quite unique I must say, but the amazing thing about this is that the author managed to keep the MC and other characters personalities on track. Many bad novels create great character’s settings but always end up as dense, s*upid, EX luck MC or something like that. It reminds me of Grimmar, I... more>> just love the characters. It’s story deserve a round of applause since everything is perfectly created and the mutiple POV makes it even better. Everything is good, it works so well with the character’s setting. But what I love the most about this novel is the ending. Such an incredible ending. I love this ending to no end. Maybe a good ending like Serge x Liege is great indeed but that would just make the character setting and story turn into some average novel. Enemies who have only fought 2 times and felt in love in the third fight, I want to vomit. Just imagining make me want to give it a 3/5 star since the beginning and middle of this novel is amazing. The end was kinda happy but sad at the same time. Truly a piece of art, I can’t decribe what I felt about this ending. Admiration? Sad? Happy (for not being the ending that I said) ? I truly can’t describe it but I can guarantee I felt them all and even more. I can name them all since I don’t even what word to describe them. To be able to write such an ending. This is gold.

P/S: this is only my personnal opinion :v <<less

Even if "The Lazy King" is really disappointing in closing the story, it was truly a masterpiece. The main strength in this work is to swing over both your "imagination" and "logic" in most extreme and contradicting way.

*I believe you already know the 7 sins like wrath and envy. This fantasy world use those attribute to classify demons; like warrior and mages for human; or fire and water for monster.

Sloth, doing nothing... yet the most powerful
Pride, the most menacing... yet so frail
Wrath, embodiment of destruction... yet so tame

Justice,... more>> as one of the attribute of the [Angels], was actually the other side of the coin Pride
Brave, as one of the attribute if the [Hero], was actually their delusion

You will find many scenes which will make you skip a beat; facing death but with negligent behavior, facing sibling's death but with the most beautiful smile; allies killing each other; enemies sharing laugh.

Every characters has their quirk, the battles are fun, everything happen revolving our immovable sloth MC, as chaos revolving him endlessly, he just sleep in his eternal slumber.

The most disappointing is the ending. As you grew attached to each cast, and their battle, self resolve, development, suddenly new character introduced, [Hero]. It was warm conclusion between [Hero] and our [Lazy King] but other characters left in cliffhanger. It was constant 5 star from the first chapter except the last cliffhanger. 1 star for the last chapter. <<less

The MC is lazy by nature and after spending thousands of years just lazing around he becomes the most powerful demon in the underworld. Therefore he is at the center of many internal conflicts, with dedicated followers spreading his territory (without his consent). However being lazy by nature, the MC refuses to be involved in anything.

This novel is comedy oriented with a few serious moments.

The end is pretty good but there is a bit of a cliffhanger feel to it.

Well, it's been long time since last time I read this.

Long in short, The MC, Lord of Sloth both powerful and lazy Demon Lord. He had reincarnated and watch the world change much times, include the hero. He was even more powerful than Demon King.

And last, this one have interesting storyline and plot. I would give 4.5 for the story, but not 0.5 for the ending. The ending kinda cliffhanger feels... I think.

I give this novel a 5/5, there isn't much to say on my part aside from the fact that the Author managed to do an incredible job at conveying his feelings through writing.

PROS:

  • The MC never breaks out of character
  • The side-characters are really fleshed out, some people have complained about them being way over the top but they are demons they are not supposed to resemble humans at all.
  • What I liked the most is how the author divides the chapters/arc's switching from one POV to another and how they regard the MC
Cons

  • It is somewhat hard to identify which pov belongs to who, but I think that's just me nit picking
All in all give this novel a chance and it will not let you down, I know that its short but it... more>> can deliver a clear and nice story that's very carefully thought out. <<less

I am completely amazed by this novel. After reading just 12 chapters (all in one day) I got so lazy I went to sleep/ laid down for 3 days and even now after a week after reading chapter 12 I still feel lazy. This novel portraits aceddia/sloth in such detail its impossible not to feel affected by it. Yet it also shows just how little everything else matters; wars, love, envy, greed for what, why? Anyway's this is truly an amazing novel that I'd recommend to anyone.

It's good, it really is.

We have here one of the most likeable MCs out there. I mean come on, how can you not like him? Like seriously. Here I was thinking of a character more lazier than Tanaka. Wala~~~ Here he is. At first you might go and try to urge the MC to work in your mind, but.... Sooner and later, you'll give up.

The plot and world building is really good. It is well thought and has a lot of substance in it.

The characters are really really likeable.... more>> The MC himself, the maid, and... And.... Uhhh....

The writing is.... good at times. It's all on first POV, and because of this, the comedy is top notch. IF it weren't for the fact that the main theme of the story isn't comedy. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY---

The rest of the times, it just doesn't suit my taste. Brings back the bad taste of the first POV action of Zhan Long and Mushuko Tensei. Ah, except for some really short ones, I just can't understand why people like first POV action... if these people do exist anyway. I don't know, and this is just taking a very bad toll on me. I can't handle first person point of view. I think they should just be used on times where the MC is thinking, not explaining the entire story. Dumb Rants, shoo shoo!

Well anyway, I reached c 13 thinking how it's quite paradox where most of the novel is first person POV action (not most, really), which makes me sleepy, and reading Liege's POV makes me stay away, even though he's suppose to be sleepy.

Although I really really hate first POV, I still held on, and will still finish the novel, because the actual story in it. It's really cool to bit by bit discover his past. Reminds me of The Experimental Log of the Crazy Lich. I also like how, although I hold great annoyance in them due to the battle scenes, the side characters are all very, uhh, fleshy and holds a lot of personality. Hey, would you look at it. Don't people keep on complaining about 1D characters? Although the characters really are 1 dimensional since they hold specific sins and what the hell.....

Well anyway, although my rating is 3, that is purely because of the first PoV battles. I love the rest. It could've gone better some way or another, but I'm sure this is just me and that the rest actually enjoy it.

Well, I hope to see an amazing ending soon, since I really liked the ending of the first part anyway. I guess that's all, and Peace Out~~~~~~~ <<less

From what I read so far, the MC has literally done nothing, besides sleep. Regardless, the novel was decent until a certain incident.
Spoiler

A knight of the Demon King was sent to monitor the MC, in case he wants to rebel, but the MC has never left his castle in three hundred years (which the suspicion makes no sense). The MC has strong vitality (VIT), which it is hard to kill him or cause him pain. The Demon King allowed her knight to kill him if she had the means (again, makes no sense if he is no threat). In one incident, the knight becomes so angry with the MC, that her powers grew and tried using them to burn the MC to death. Throughout the incident, the MC's loyal maid has been next to the MC. Nothing happens to the MC, but the maid is SLOWLY burnt to death, without much of a reaction. Somehow the knight blames the MC for her death. Right away, the maid's younger sister replaces the maid and she cheerfully greets her sister's killer. Maybe because they are demons, they do not have feelings, but later the MC re-generates the maid. The MC and her sister explain to her that she was burned to death, but she somehow is friendly with her killer. Then the knight overhears that maid m*sturbates to the MC, and threatens the maid to expose her if she does not comply to her request. All of a sudden, the maid gives a reaction and complies with the threat, and all this was done for comedic relief. Are you kidding? The knight burned you to death not long ago, and there is no resentment, until now? What a joke!

[collapse]

If you like novels where characters are friendly with their mu*derers or attempted mu*derers as if nothing happen, then this is for you.

It's definitely extremely difficult to rate this novel anything but "extremely good" the character insights are top class and you get a feel on exactly WHO each of the characters are. Tsukikage does a wonderful job of adding depth into characters hard to achieve if not impossible for other writers and overall it was a fantastic read.

Ahh... I don't want it to end T.T
This is one of those LN that is so well written (or well translated) that makes you want to read more.
Each chapter is from different character pov, but it doesn't confuse the reader (or at least me) and in turn it makes me likes the characters a bit more.
Especially the MC Leigie... and Sarge.

In the end, they're both connected by regrets...
But Leigie... really wait for a long time, huh?

What is this feels at the end dammit.... T.T

this manga is more about the people around the MC then MC himself, it more like a bunch of short story string together by a character (which is the MC) and exploring the world. Which is a very good read comparing the standard harem novel we used to get

Did we say it ? I think everyone said it... THIS IS GOLD !!

So that's how the system works. The demons can be normal demons, but to be a demon with powers, you have to develop one of the 7 capital sins that give you access to a skill tree.
And then, you're divided by your grade of power a Soldier > Lieutnant > General > Demon Lord. It's like Xianxia novels, you develop your sin and you reach bottlenecks (of the grades I gave earlier) and the deeper you get into your sin, the easier you get to break those bottlenecks.

Anger (Ira), Gluttony (Gula), Greed (Avaritia), Pride (Superbia), Lust (Luxuria), Envy (Invidia) Sloth (Acedia)
This story follows the only Demon Lord of Sloth, he does nothing all day and that's why he's OP. We get to see it in multiple POVs so it gets repetitive but it's written in a very nice way. <<less

The reason why this novel is so interesting is because it is written in another point of view every chapter and the fact that ‘Sloth’ is the theme, which resembles the ‘sin’ of the current era. Even though it is also difficult to understand if you don’t have all chapters, it is still fascinating!

It is unbelievable that he has — and only because—! Actually, it has not been confirmed how he — and why the current demon king —, right? Like @Lachiel, I won’t spoil it of course.

I recommend this... more>> if you like to read a long comedy. That 4 parts a chapter being long is not an understatement. <<less

Honestly the only novel I have read that I would rate 5 stars. I however have to admit this rating is probably biased.
After seeing I only gave out 2 reviews and both 2 stars I felt like I had to give a review to a novel I truly enjoyed.
I dont know how long ago I read this one but I enjoyed reading it.

When I read this novel I focused more on the sins/emotions and what these sins/emotions can do to you if you ever fall in their clutches... more>> for a prolonged time.

The story... Like I wrote before, I focused on what certain emotions can do if you let them have too much influence on yourself and I found it was portrayed beautifully. Every emotion and thought was well explained and written well. Holding in anger to let I burst out will make the anger stronger because it was bottled up and it was displayed in a demons power here. Combining being lazy and thinking of has been/could have been and it ending in depression. The small insights it gives into a human emotion isnt ground breaking but to make a story out of and make it fit so well was great.

Character.. Well fleshed out MC and side characters.

world building... well fleshed out.

Dont feel like writing too much about characters and the world as otherwise the review wil be too long and bothersome to read. <<less

A gem. It was such an interesting story, albeit a bit on the short side, it was very well written.

The MC is really charismatic, even thought he only said 10 lines or so (≧▽≦) I totally love him.
