I overlooked this novel because of it's 3.8 score but it's honestly up there with one of the better novels I've read. I personally find it more entertaining than Coiling Dragon and its characters are generally better than most other Chinese novels, not that there aren't sh*t ones, but the main group is all very likable. I get the feeling most people just didn't like his personality shift but thats honestly to be expected with these novels. (Just checked and The Great Ruler has a 4 rating which is bs.... more>> I couldn't stand the fact that he was the only decent person who all every female character has to fall for. It's especially annoying because it's a waste of time as he is completely loyal to his wife [Im not looking up her name]) <<less

I’ll be fair and give this a score of 3 or in other words. Average.

First off, this isn’t one of the best stories you can read here, but not the worst either, just the average barebones of what you could rate a standard cultivation novel.

First off, the characters. It almost drives me insane how practically half the people that show up in this novel have an IQ of what seems to be 60 or lower (The average adult IQ is something like 75-100 I think) . That’s right half the... more>> people in the novel are actually dysfunctional. I think this is just a result the the author not realizing how put together real humans are, or just his inability to write character’s in general.

Another is this shitty explaination of his cultivation system. I do like how it doesn’t seem to be fit to the standards of most novels but the fact that he hasn’t really shown examples of the different power levels is very concerning. He likes to use the examples of “Jin weight” but that’s exactly what’s confusing since there are so many exceptions to this.

Honestly, the power system in this novel isn’t so much “We’ll compete using complex moves that are hard to beat and the winner is the one who’s more clever” but more like “I have a bigger lazer beam move than you so I win” if that makes sense?

Like I said, this novel isn’t ‘bad’ per say. It’s at least a little entertaining watching the character grow stronger, beat his enemies, get the chicks, etc. But that’s pretty much all there is to it, anything other people will say that are it’s ‘selling points’ are literally only going to be extentions of just that.

Read only if you’re 1.) New to the face-smacking genere or 2.) You are literally just trying to waste your time because you have nothing better to do (Like I am). Otherwise, you’ll just be having a bad time. <<less

This is quite a good novel however I hate the most that the author keeps calling the MC by little guy, little demon, little savage is his d*ck so schmall? Why not just call him by his name it triggers me the most by giving this rating this low. Why not just remove the MC name entirely and just call him little guy, but the MC has a name for f*cks sake why not use it. Every time I'm reading this even tho the plot is good I'm losing my... more>> appetite because on how the author address the MC, I know the MC is still a kid but even tho my opinion is, don't create a name for MC if your not going to use it in the novel Why not call him Mighty Guy much cooler lmao. That is my only concern tho, I know we have different type of taste. Maybe if the author address characters in this novel my point of view will become different, what do you think guys, try to put yourselfs on what I'm thinking if it also make your point view any difference. Please give your opinions on why I should accept the MC being called little shitstain instead of MC's real name? BTW already dropping this novel that's why I gave a comment but will read your comments maybe your reasons will make me come back or not. Thanks. <<less

The MC is different from most Chinese MCs in that he's cute, young, utterly shameless, and eats every non-human living being. His nicknames really match him.

The way characters cultivate is interesting, but I don't find the MC's cultivation to be that interesting. The results are the interesting parts.

I enjoy reading this novel because of the MC's shameless interactions with his enemies. To me, it never gets boring to see him savagely smash, cook, and eat some of his enemies.

... more>> He interacts with females quite interestingly too.

Gotta love his village and the tree.

Tragic past is tragic. MC constantly uses it (after the reveal) to smash those that harmed him.

Spoiler

Epic grandpa is epic.

The story was great in the beginning, in the village. After he goes out to explore the world, the plot keeps repeating. I have read some reviews that said that it'll develop further later in the book, but since those chapters aren't available I will give 5 stars for the beginning of around 100 chapters. I have gone farther than 100, but I can't express how disappointed I am.

Once upon a time, this was my favorite Light Novel, but it simply couldn't keep up with the good start it had, and with a hong long sound, it became vastly uninteresting, and with another hong long sound it became boring.

Spoiler

STRENGTH:
* The world building was excellent initially.
* The cultivation system was unique and interesting.
* Initially epic battles take place between powerful experts and they are well described.
* The MC had a unique and fun personality initially.

WEAKNESS:
* Literally all the initial strengths were dumped in the dustbin. World building was ignored, cultivation system became non existent.
* Battle are literally a series of repetition of the text 'hong long'. Example: With a hong long sound, their palms met.
* Initially there was plot and arcs, later there is nothing of the sort.

[collapse]

Verdict:
It is actually a really fun read up till the Heaven Mending Pavilion arc. Unfortunately, the author quickly lost the plot after that, and the novel has become a series of battles, with little to no time in between.

Recommendation:
Read if you have time to kill and no novels to read. Otherwise just read: ISSTH, A will Eternal, Ze Tian Ji, Death Sutra. <<less

I have edited my review to add some thoughts on how I felt reading the novel and why I dropped it. I kept the original review at the end.

It's a frustrating story to read. The author isn't necessarily bad, and can create some good characters and varied enemies and scenarios. The problem is, the author ends up having the same situations and plots happening again and again. Also, as the MC powers up and becomes more OP, the universe's power to try and screw him over through new characters or... more>> events specifically designed to do become more and more obvious. Most novels suffer as they get longer and longer, and unfortunately the quality gets noticeably worse here.

I don't think it's a bottom tier novel, nor do I think it's a particularly good one. It's a victim of the genre, it's radio hiphop/pop with nothing added to make it particularly different. When the most unique part of the MC is that he likes milk and is shameless in a dumb way, I don't think that's a formula for success. There just isn't enough of an overarching plot or interesting life story to keep me invested. The best plot thread concerns a side character and when it disappears, I don't think the MC can carry the story alone. The combat is interesting to read, but that's not enough so I dropped it at my current chapter status.

Original review written at c217

I think PW is a very polarizing novel. I've had times where it's been one of my favorites, and other times where I thought the MC was one of the worst I've ever seen. Speaking of the MC, PW is another novel with an OP MC. I appreciate how they place the MC in an isolated place, and how that shapes his viewpoints. On the other hand, his ignorance can get grating at times

Spoiler

Yes he's a child, but he's an as*hole to everyone not from his village, and it gets tiring when he spends entire arcs just being an a**hole. Also, it's annoying when every other chapter needs to remark how vicious he is

[collapse]

It's an interesting novel, that has a relatively slow pace. Although this is tagged romance, there hasn't been any signs so far. The world-building is great, the plot is good, but I think all the enjoyment rests on if you like the MC or not. I know I liked it a lot when I started reading it, but the lack of maturation gets to me at times. <<less

Those of you that are dropping this series early I really feel bad for you. The battles in this series are some of the most epic blood pumping scenes of any xianxia that I have read, and I have read ALOT. The world building is epic and immersive, yet does not cross the line into excessive (borring). The main character is funny and interesting, unlike so many flat and generic MCs out there.

I only wish the TL speed would pick up a bit, but aside from that the TL and... more>> editing quality is excellent. <<less

I enjoyed it, it starts out slow-paced which imo is pretty good. Main character is a nice innocent kid and there aren’t too many time skips (such as when the MC’s from other novels do closed door cultivation and suddenly becomes OP). The Void God realm part was funny, but the MC does a 180 and his personality change was too sudden considering, the slow pace it was going and I got tired of it around chapter 105.

the MC is an lawful evil type of character. He do bad thing to people cause he dont know or in self defend, but when he does it seem to be over the top. the story so far in chapter 95 is the world around the town the MC have just go thought and Armageddon and the MC just find out why he so diffent then other people in the village and that almost die because people want his flesh and bone or essence to level up their power and... more>> he end up at the village cause he parent send him there (like superman), and the MC have to go out in the brave new world (there also a spirit world of some kind were he get kick out cause he break something that other deem impossible to break) to explore, find his parent and level up to protect his village and his loved one. The story began promisingly, but unfortunately, the author failed to maintain its quality throughout. Here are the pros and cons:

1. The premise and plot ideas show potential, but the execution of character development is lacking. Characters struggle to effectively carry out the plot's intentions. Let me clarify: The sect's ultimate goal is to control the protagonist, which could be achieved through intricate scheming and plotting. However, their approach lacks subtlety. Instead of employing strategic maneuvers, their only recourse seems to be resorting to brute force and violence. Their reasoning boils... more>> down to a simplistic notion: "We must eliminate the grandfather if we wish to assert control over this prodigy."

2. Initially, the world-building was clear, but as the story progressed, confusion set in, particularly when the main character's actions seemed unchecked. For instance, the protagonist seemed to easily overpower others without regard for consequences, leading to inconsistencies.

3. It's frustrating to encounter characters who don't utilize their intelligence, such as a sect relentlessly hunting down a family member of a genius without strategic reasoning. This lack of subtlety in storytelling, exemplified by raw, overt actions like publicly chasing and posting bounties, detracts from immersion.

4. Despite persevering through hundreds of chapters, the lack of clarity about the protagonist's cultivation stage became a significant obstacle. The world-building suffered, and the protagonist's overpowering nature undermined tension, making upgrades irrelevant and rendering potential conflicts one-sided.

5. The story's focus on brute strength over strategic thinking becomes apparent, contrasting unfavorably with narratives like "Rev Insanity, " where even the villain has allies. This emphasis on physical prowess at the expense of nuanced storytelling disappoints readers seeking more depth.

In summary, while the story initially shows promise, it ultimately prioritizes action over thoughtful plot development, resulting in a narrative dominated by brawn rather than brains. While this approach may have its appeal, it falls short of delivering the depth and complexity that many readers desire. <<less

Boring and repetitive plot points that occur constantly.
MC beats a genius disciple/young master, their backers come and bully MC, MC breaks through in cultivation by destroying his body, life, and death situation occurs to MC, MC dishes out some face slapping. Rinse & repeat.

The reunions with his family are so over-dramatic, they feel so forced and unnatural for lack of a better term. Also, whenever he reunites with his family, it always has to be where MC saves the family member from danger, which quickly gets tiresome.

Taking a break from this, although I don't think it's terrible or anything. It's kinda unique in how we follow a child from very early on in life and how some of the cultivation works. That said, for me it's just not very enjoyable reading about a child. The author will have him flip flop between thinking like an adult in some situations and then reverting back to being childish. I guess you could argue this is forced on him by circumstances but I think the amount of intelligence he... more>> has at times is much too high for a child and his swings back to being a complete moron is way too much. Also, the comedy about milk or him stealing stuff is not remotely funny for me. I'm sure somebody likes it but it's really not for me. On chapter 100 I think the MC is 9 or 10 and he's still incredibly immature, which is not totally unexpected but why would I want to read about it? The MC is also disgustingly op without any real explanation, he's easily killing full blown adults at age 2-3. I'm sure the author will explain why at some point but I doubt it'll be very satisfying.
Spoiler

Especially once you find out his supreme bone is stolen, there really isn't a good explanation I can think of for why he suddenly turns everything around at age 2. Maybe it's the classic weakest is the strongest by relying on themselves without any external advantages and recreating themselves trope or some fate mumbo jumbo we'll discover later on. Meh

[collapse]

Another big problem is the way the author writes. He takes way too long describing everything or going off on tangents to fill out some part of the world/letting the peanut gallery chime in constantly. Some might like this but as I've said a zillion times already it's not my cup of tea. There is one part where the author spends 5 to 6 chapters describing some huge battle where the MC and his village are entirely uninvolved. (They get teleported away at the very start) It describes how these big monsters kill everything human within 100, 000 li. Two of the beasts are good and try to prevent it while two of them are evil and end up accomplishing their goal. I'm sure this will come into play later but holy f*ck it shouldn't have taken 5 whole chapters to describe. We are hardly introduced to the humans dying and there's only so much dialogue you can have between the beasts before you're just repeating yourself. We get that two of them are evil and two are good and that a lot of humans we've never met are dying. This should have been 2 chapters max.

If I get bored one day I'll pick this up again bc the mc's tragic backstory isn't too bad but that's going to take a while to play out and I can't stand watching him in his early childhood/teenage phase while the author spends way too long on the peanut gallery or flowery descriptions of the world. <<less

Perfect World is a tough cultivation novel to get into, with both the world building and cultivation aspect done rather haphazardly. Requiring one to suspend their sense of disbelief. Opening up with toddlers able to battle and slaughter grown adults. Followed by a senseless amount of death, in a turning point event. From there the author did a good job making Shi Hao into a sympathetic hero, but then decides to lean heavily into the comedy and make the MC nothing but a s*upid thieving brat. That is surrounded by... more>> s*upid kids & adults alike. Including his own blood & kin.

It isn't until halfway into the story that the now 20yr old Shi Hao begins to mature and have a few memorable friends. Nevertheless this novel is all about the battles. While the battles themselves are well-paced, they are constantly instigated by fools with poor memory, who can't remember what happened the last time the MC made a breakthrough. Moreover the rapid pacing of the cultivation is plain absurd. With teenagers and their million year old peers, being on the same level. Only for the author to repeat constant reminders of an impending catastrophe and when it finally occurs, it ends up being more of the same, which isn't all that bad. Yet the Dumb Final Showdown and a million year old baby was the last straw... F**k this novel.

Spoiler

The "million year old baby" is regarding the Shi Hao's son. Who was born just before the world would succumb to turmoil and would inevitably grow up to be a powerful cultivator in these harsh times, with the MC's guidance. But instead of raising his damn son, during a time when he raised some of the strongest cultivators, he f*cking seals him for years on end. Occasionally unsealing him for the child's mother to see for a day or two, before resealing him. Thousands of years go by and his son is still a baby, from the constant sealing and the child's mother is near the end of her lifespan, so he seals her. Then millions of years go by and when the MC finally sees his son, who unsealed himself and finally allowed to grow-up, the boy sacrifices himself for this f**king father.

The setting seemed nice in the beginning, but quickly became bland and s*upid. Its calamity after calamity for the MC and his village. The action sequences seem bland and vague. It’s very difficult to imagine them. Also having a child MC for a long time seems like a bad idea. He is too naive and always whines “you are evil people” to everyone. I almost get the feeling of a japanese light novel MC when I read this.

Interesting history and world, almost all mysteries are solved, although many secondary characters are forgotten and it is not known what happens to them at the end of the story. The downside as many have mentioned in other reviews is that the number of paragraphs with information repeated over and over again. Before anything, if you like Renegade Immortal, you might like this and I recommend trying it out if so. Perfect World exerts huge emphasis on character development and growth -- Shi Hao (the MC) begins his journey as a child, he grows from being a loving and adorable child to a fierce, cunning and narcissistic Individual to unmatched expert to a lonely Emperor. The entire story itself is like a journey, it is very satisfactory; the flow of time and growth of the MC. The ending is quite sad but... more>> also satisfying, it's not rushed. It is similar to Renegade Immortal and The Strongest System but ending is not rushed. Timelines are introduced into this as in Present, Future and Past. All of these timelines (Past) matters, making the plot complex and extraordinary imo. There is romance in this but I wouldn't say it's really good, yes he is devoted to them but there is no heavy romance. Harem is also very light, not very heavy like Against The Gods.

The unique and fun point about this novel is action and cultivation more than anything, you get most enjoyment from flow of time and cultivation. Shi Hao surpasses each limit in a cultivation realm and set a unprecedented record, achieving sturdy and pure foundation each time. He created his own cultivation realm, cultivation system and even techniques. More than that, his techniques grow with him, he doesn't learn a new technique and immediately dump the old one. All his techniques are equally unmatched, they grow with him. <<less

Typical stuff. I was expecting some interesting stuff to occur due to the tags involving time travel, but not really. The last 200 some chapters start skipping time like typical xuanhuan. This is the longest novel I have read in terms of chapters. After the novel reaches a certain amount of chapters, its pretty obvious how typical a novel of this genre will be unless everyone is mentioning how different it is, an exmaple being Reverend Insanity. If you want some typical xuanhuan, this is it.
