Earth Online – a virtual MMORPG that takes place in the future year of 2190 – a game that everyone will bet their futures on. Set in a map that is ten times the size of real-world Earth, players battle for supremacy in the first game to feature personal adventure, territory construction, and grand warfare. For every death you experience in the game, your level would drop back to zero. Ouyang Shuo, an above average player, suffered the ultimate betrayal. For merely a piece of equipment, his sworn brother betrayed and backstabbed him. This time, after he reincarnated in the game, Ouyang Shuo swore to exact vengeance.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, Ouyang Shuo found himself back five years before the betrayal – right before the launch of Earth Online. This time, armed with the knowledge from his past life, Ouyang Shuo would venture upon a new path.

How to perfectly complete quests? What historical battle maps would appear? How should one build up their territory? Utilizing the experience from the predecessors of his last life, Ouyang Shuo makes his bid for the top against all odds. Follow his journey as he seeks to lord over the world!

A different kind of tale that blends historical characters and virtual reality gaming, with heavy emphasis on kingdom building and warfare.

TWO has one of the best ending I've ever seen in a novel, almost perfect! Although the MC always win in the end, there's always enough to twist and turn to ensure its not an easy win.

There's also an immense cache of real life geographical, scientific and general knowledge to gain all through the read. Genuinely worthwhile!

This one started off really good and if I was on the first 200 or so chapters I would give it a higher rating. It was a decent kingdom building story with good interpersonal stories but as the kingdom kept getting bigger the story has gotten more and more boring. It now reads like it's some kind of informational report written by a government worker to give to their boss as a report on the current status of the kingdom. There are sections now where it will go like 10... more>> chapters without a single character speaking, just the author explaining the mc's plan and troop arrangment or the economics report of the kingdom. Hell, chapter 542 is 90% about how the mc's restructuring the army and 80% of that is just him talking about who he needs to give promotions to. The story updates regularly and I'm too far in to back out now but save yourselves the trouble and skip over this one if factual reports sound boring to you. <<less

One of the best kingdom building novels I have read due to the focus being in the territory development and not getting distracted bother things as often happens industry stories.

One of the minor annoyances would be the historic battlefields that pop up mostly because the are getting to take up too many chapters and the historical explanation chapters are a bit confusing for the layperson.

This is an interesting novel. It combines a mix of historical figures, Litrpg elements, and kingdom building.

Overall, an amazing novel that should be read by everyone... The MC isn't OP like in nearly every other novel in the sense of strength. However, with the use of his past knowledge he surpasses everyone making it more interesting that those xianxia/martial arts novels that just end up killing everyone.

Good quality translation and found it to be an enjoyable read. The MC is someone who has reincarnated so some op is expected.

The only flaw of this novel is their is so many many many CHARACTERS to the point that every time I read this I always ask my self who the hell is this person...

So what I did is just be familiar of the main characters and just let the other pass by lol regardless of how the story flow the historical fight which was base on most Chinese literature is also interesting but since I have no idea of this amazing Chinese heroes I always felt left hanging

If... more>> you are familiar of playing game where you build kingdoms for example COC (I play domination) then it will be an easy read for you since you can skip countless chapter of building this and that attacking this and that and you won't be lost in the story.

The balance between real life and game life is what I like about this novel, the solo MC B*llsh*t of other novel makes me stop reading this kind of story but this novel is different as he is always surrounded by characters which make it less boring.

Drop this novel for 3 reason: To Lazy to read to many details, To many side characters and my memory is bad and lastly I fail to enjoy reading this novel no point agonizing my self from it lol <<less

Do not read this novel if you do not like kingdom building/management. Because while there is fighting in the story, it is not implemented that well, in my opinion.

If I had to put my finger on one thing that drags the story down the most is how the story basically only focuses on China and there is a lot of HURDUR CHINA #1!

So if you were hoping on hearing what goes on in Europe or America in the story, I got bad news for you.

As much as I would like to say that this novel is great I cant can, the novel is good when you are in the city bilding parts or the game parts were he gets titles and stats and the fights. But when it goes to the players and how the guilds and other lords are doing there thing I at least get the feeling that they are some how geting stronger just cuz the author needs them to and not because they have what it takes to make that... more>> step you know. I mean the main character does have a big lead but to me he should have it more then he has bebecause from the beginning to now were I am he has not onec failed in anything important andandd has gotten the best stuff from his token to his npcs and items but even with that some how other players are still only half a year behind him. <<less

I really like novel, because different from what I've read, it does not focus on battles and battles, but it is based on history and has the tone of political intrigue that attracts me a lot. I strongly recommend!

It's pretty good, would recommend for those people who like the world building and strategy aspect of it all. It has pretty interesting arcs and doesn't ever get super duper boring, but I would recommend reading large numbers of chapters all at once in order to be able to notice how he improves. Otherwise, you could get bored in the long run. Not mandatory, but I would recommend

It's good, lots of political shenanigans and army stuff. If you're into kingdom/empire building, this is basically the best done one so far. It has a "cultivation" system in it, but so far it's basically completely irrelevant, like it's just tacked in there for the tag or something. The cultivation is also more wuxia than xanxia in that he's 2/3 of the way to pinnacle and he still only has the strength of "three oxen". So noone flying around shooting sword lasers. Regardless, armies decide battles, not cultivation, and 400... more>> chapters in not once has the MC turned a war around or something similarly ridiculous with his martial prowess; it is just not that kind of novel.

I dropped a star because the story has 2 major negatives, for me. The first one is inevitable in any chinese story like this... names. Too many similar names for regions and people and because it's a genuine kingdom building novel there's so many friggin' people involved that whenever he does a call back or promotes someone in his middle management I'm left going "That was the guy from, uh... that... time? Well, probably not important". The major characters have names unique enough and come up often enough to be remembered, so the story still reads fine, but it's really easy to lose track of who's who and where's where because of all the lan's and len's and sun's and song's. Just a problem most American readers have because our language is not tonal, and we don't bundle in our 12 super-common-surnames whenever we're mentioned.

The second negative is the premise. Spoilers for the first couple chapters I guess, earth is toast (omega super volcano or something) and humanity, literally ALL of humanity, gets on giant superships to fly to a recently-discovered-but-not-properly-scouted planet that we know is capable of supporting human life, but that's all we know. The game, and kingdom building, is all a giant ass training program for leaders and a not-so-subtle way to teach everyone cultivation for the new planet. Except... they have super tech, and they're bringing it all with them (fabrication machines, superintelligent AI, the works) but their leaders are training in Ancient Times?! They're progressing down the tech tree from scratch. Why bother? Leadership changes drastically based on available tech, health concerns, communication concerns, literally everything changes at higher levels of technology. Warlord style leadership no longer applies. But that's what they're doing, because the training program/game is based on ancient times (ancient china for our protagonist, but the rest of the world is there too building up their own empires in the Americas, Europe, etcetera. They haven't developed enough, tech-wise, to meet yet). The premise is inherently ridiculous. Unfortunately that means there's only two outcomes available: One, they reach the planet you did a great job LEAD HUMANITY! roll credits/start the story over as a sci-fi colonizing story. Or two, you arrive on planet and all your tech mysteriously eats itself! Roll credits/start over as an other-world survivalist colonizing story. <<less

Yes, this may be a really generically written light novel, but it's really interesting the topic and the history is cool, even if the characters are sort of generic and one sided, but hey most of them are ai programs anyway (pls don't flame my lame ass joke). You have to ignore the bs MC luck that almost all light novels have, and it can't really pull it off as well as ISSTH in terms of laughs, but it's still a pretty good read. Treat it as a not so... more>> dark dungeon defense (W/o nice drawings as well sad). <<less

I don't usually like novels with the VR theme, but The World Online is a surprise. I've seen that it has more than 1500 chapters and I'm still in the ~400 something, so I don't know how it will go from now on, but it is a great novel up to this point.

Good read if you like management and strategy like me. Main character is good at planning despite he didn't has management occupation in the last life. No bullsh*t harem which is good in my opinion. Concept of the game being government's program for raising leaders is fresh for me. Slight downside is keeping track of all NPC's names and their occupations if they weren't mentioned last 2-3 chapters. Other than that I can't say anything bad about it. Translation is superb, and it's speed is very quick.

Well yeah. First off all the Translation is pretty damn good and there are A LOT of chaps each week (13 actually). Also its a kingdom building game everyone would love to play but isnt viable out there at all (I searched and failed I know what I tell you). So we have no choice but to stick to this amazing work. And its really interesting. Most of the time you are just sitting there and thinking: Who the f*ck was that and and why would he do this and... more>> that. But in the next sentence its gettin explained for s*upid me.

I know a lot of you dont like "getting reanimated and put back in the past to f*ck everyone out there who did something bad to me". Thank god it isnt like this. MC gets revived but chooses a new way this time. He has indeed some serious advantages but those are getting smaller over time.

So if u are ito kingdom building some pretty likeable MC, Chinese history and Strategy gameplay go for it u wont lose out on this <<less

This is what I call real kingdom building genre. Overall for those who like detailed kingdom building this is definitely for you.

If I must describe the novel background, it's combination of china dynasty warring era + future technology + china legendary cultivation world.

Although sometimes the detail make you puke, especially when author describe battlefield landscape with chinese name/setting, definitely confusing, and only used once. So probably best to skip it.

The World Online truly feels as though you're reading a report from someone who played a game... a very, very, very, very detailed report. I don't hate it as much, personally, as I've had CIV sessions which lasted for it-shall-not-be-spoken number of hours, but some people might find The World Online exhausting to read. But, even beyond that, the novel is simply too flawed to be called at least good, if not entertaining.

  1. Characters. All are bland. There's not an ounce of interesting personality anywhere in 366 chapters that I've read. There are only 2 characters (that I remember, at the very least) that receive the smallest of developments, but that's it. MC is dull. He's got no personality past 'my sis is cute I love her kyaaaah'. All his subordinates are forgettable. Honestly, I remember a few names here and there, but even if you set my brain on fire, I couldn't tell you what's the difference between the characters. So, keep in mind that characters are secondary (because thirdary isn't a word) if you're planning on reading this.
  2. Too. Much. Stuff. You'll often come across kingdom-building novels that just blaze through that sh*t and feel frustrated, and then you'll come across The World Online which is the opposite extreme. Past the inflated word count, I see no reason why's there so much detail. I can leverage my left nipple that 99, 99% of readers can't remember half the departments, 89% of the subordinates that are in charge of those departments, and who knows what else. While detail is important when it comes to kingdom-building, here it just literally suffocates the pace of the story and shoves the characters back into the template canister.
  3. MC knows things he couldn't have, shouldn't have and wouldn't have known. I've noticed this trend recently with the reincarnation stories, whereas MC goes back in time and chooses a completely different path than his own but somehow still knows everything. That's the case here. MC was an adventurer in the previous world, but he knows everything when it comes to being a Lord. Fine, maybe he knows some specific events, important triggers, battles etc., but he should know jack sh*t about territory building and everything involved in it. I don't understand why didn't the author just make him a Lord in the previous life. He still got betrayed and stabbed in the ass, but at least know it's logical why he knows so much sh*t he can't possibly now with this route.
  4. Story. I won't explain why the story makes no sense as that would be a huge spoiler, but it makes no sense. The way it is handled is so far removed from reality (no, not just because it's not reality) that it hurts my soul.
  5. MC single-handedly defeats the alliance of supposed big-shots in this game. Ok.
  6. Romance. Lol.
  7. Large-scale battles - they are not well-written. They are too rushed. It's hard to properly set up an image inside your head as to what is going on and how is either side winning.
There are many other things I could list, but it's almost 3AM and f*ck me if I know why I even started writing this so late. I enjoyed reading TWO and will continue reading it. But, mind you, you'll probably be skipping paragraphs and pages like mad if you want to milk even an inkling of enjoyment from this. It has too many problems, clear and simple.
