Veteran programmer Li Mu was unfortunately kicked by fate into the year 2001, right before university entrance examinations. He happily shook his butt, got up, and inevitably stepped onto the road of being spectacular.

As a person re-living his life Li Mu had his own goals and ambitions. Earning money was just the primary stage of becoming amazing.

As for getting into the weekly publication of Times Magazine, becoming a master in the IT industry, and aiming for being on the Forbes Magazine list, they could all only be considered as his life’s instermediate stage.

As for what he considered the highest realm of being a phenomenal, Li Mu felt like there were the following three points:

• Becoming a rich man’s idol.

• Becoming a celebrity’s godfather.

• Becoming an extraordinary person’s father.

  • I have read 1330 chapters out of 1820. I would say that it is perfect story of you have a patience. The pluses are the following

The more you read the story becomes better and better. At the beginning it may be very simple, but step by step more plot lines appear, more characters are introduced, more plans, more ideas, more businesses. The author becomes more skillful and cunning. The main character reveals as more complicated.

    Spoiler

Main character is brilliant at developing business. Despite he copy ideas (as it is time travelling, okay), he is still very smart, and has great understanding of the internet businesses and people hearts. He is not bad or good, sometimes he does charity and very supportive and emotional, sometimes he does clever trick to destroy enemies or competitors. At some moments I was amazed with his brilliant mind. I respect the author of the story for the plot.

Harem is an element, but for me it is not that important. At the beginning romantic lines are very slow. The most girls fall in love first and take an initiative to be closer. Sometimes these romantic elements are good to have a break from his great strategy of running business and overcome issues. Main character treats each of his girlfriends tenderly and tries to repay their feelings as best he can. It is not dirty story. It is confusing and it's not clear how to reach a happy ending, so it also keeps you in suspense.

The industries where main character take a part are e-commerce, social networks, online music websites, online games, other Internet segments, show business, acting, cinemas. Maybe more.

    [collapse]

I should say that (as not an asian person) it is always hard for me to remember all the names and who is who during novels. But this story is a big exception. I remember all the characters, despite that to 1330 chapters there are decades of them (friends, colleagues, relatives, etc) The secondary characters are well written and play their role.

    The minuses you may tolerate

You should have a patience and to give this story a chance.

I hate to say why there so many haters leaving 1 star when there no chapters even translated.

Well I read this novel up to chapter 1149, but still waiting for a bunch then read, so below my spoiler what it about or a preview so that someone can maybe translate this in future. The story pretty enjoyable if you can read the raw.

(The listing of some not in order of my saying since I too lazy to revise.

MC reborn back in past, his parents were coal miner, he knows they get fired sooner or later due to no more coal to mine.

MC starts out as creating a plug in for a game, he then sells it when it spread. He later sells songs lyrics to rich kids who wants to be singer & popular.

He later starts his internet industry & recuit talents who he know will suceed, and for some gives more than others shares. He beats QQ (a chinese intenet chat like facebook) down with high version of their copy of the future. He beats a bunch of company down like Taobao, he steal the web domain ahead. Even creates a 3321 for students due to he thought that idea from roommate poor, but it 100% non profit. Then he starts a system like PayPal with 3321 as background = easier or easy for banks to accept this system.

MC goes throughout all sorts of internet industry, some realestates.

The part of MC you might not like about MC is his idea of wanting to change Chinese history of banning fake goods, spreading Chinese Glory with his industry.

But hey it just a novel if you ignore these parts I it enjoyable.

I don't know why, this get a low rate despite haven't been translated yet.

In my experience, this novel really has good pace and development. And the mtl of this novel, is the most readable so far.

It's highly recommended for someone who like second chance and modern day theme.

Edit : I accidentally give 1 star, trying to solve this.

As chapter 1300, the romance of this novel still has no progress from 100th chapter. But the affair of MC had, is expanding. I say "affair" not harem because the female lead doesn't know of them.

The story is really good, the pace, how it developed, and how the antagonist persist in the story (like MC need about 700+ chapter to get rid of him). And like my fellow reviewer said above me, the only minus for me come from nationalism of the MC. No don't get me wrong.I like the concept of nationalism, iam alright and somehow ridicule how the above review said it was annoying at first, but past 1000 chapter it occurs frequently and started to have more length and event in story. <<less

Pros:

    • Good story
    • MC is not dense or too arrogant
Cons:

    • Full of unnecessary fillers
    • The members of the harem are just there to relieve the emotional stress of the MC
    • Worthless Harem
    • Unnecessary characters
    • Characters with potential turned into sh*t eg. (The GF, the big sis, his side-chick, etc.)
You'll get bored at around chapter 500+

I got to chapter 80 and cant take anymore! This story is super boring and repetitive. The MC is bland and tasteless. The harem is worse than a jp novel. The MC has 2 girls drooling over his D and has never even kissed one. It's the lamest thing ever. At least jp novels dont take themselves serious. The author also thinks its a bad idea to make the MC rich and famous. The pace is super slow. The author writes like a snail and loves filler. Why does the... more>> MC even want to go to college? Mark Zuckerberg dropped out of harverd and says college is pointless. The bad guys get old quick and have mental problems. <<less

It's a shock there's many who already despise these recent translations. I happen to find it easy to understand. Compared to other sloppy works, I find myself appreciating the mature syntax and diction.

The raw novel was truly enjoyable. You can't imagine how happy I was once I figured someone has translated it. I was a bit wary at first, of course, but I'm not disappointed at all. I am hoping for more translated chapters in the upcoming future.

Fairly interesting novel covering the period of China's dotcom era.
Worthy read for those with an interest in how China's titans of industry came about during that time. Otherwise objectively speaking it's only worth 3 stars.

@OddJobs probably has the most concise review of the novel, so I'll just embellish a little of what he wrote.

SUMMARY
A down-and-out 30+yr old computer programmer gets a second-chance to relive his most pivotal moment in senior high 2001, which coincides with the birth of many titans of industry, from internet companies to entertainment to... more>> real estate (Alibaba, JD. Com, Tencent, Wanda, Shanda, Didi, etc).

COMMENTS

-- Interesting Era
The 2000-2010 was a genuinely interesting era and when huge fortunes were made. Which explains why there are a ton of novels covering rebirth during this time. The level of detail of the various titans of industry (Jack Ma, etc) is impressive, covering their origins and how MC is able to weave his way into their ranks.

-- Level-headed MC, but skills don't make sense
A genuinely clever MC who just didn't have the background or opportunity to act in his previous life. Armed with foreknowledge and future programming skills, he's able to capitalize on business opportunities to grow his wealth. He shows a decent level of maturity and business acumen, but it doesn't make any sense that he's suddenly able to become an expert negotiator, singer or lover, just because he's mentally 30+yrs old.
How's MC supposed to accurately remember the lyrics to all the hit songs?
How's MC supposed to know all the programming logic for various popular future software?
How's MC supposed to remember all the various future tech titans, where they were and what they were doing during 2001-2002 and actively seek them out?
Even "I'm Really A Superstar" made more logical sense for MC gaining skills.

-- Painful retcons
Unfortunately the author's hero-level of worship of these titans of industry comes at a lousy time (he wrote this in 2016), just when countless exposé came out on their sordid business dealings and personal life.
Just think of when Steve Jobs died in 2011, and all the scandals about his life started coming out. Same issue here.
Spoiler

- Baidu's unethical sale of medical ads in 2016/2017 forced author to rewrite MC's business partnership with Baidu.
- Author/MC's worship of JD. Com's founder multiple s*x scandals post 2017.
- Alibaba's founder Jack Ma's support of 996 work-hours, which sparked a lot of societal anger.

[collapse]

If you observe the tech industry these days, unicorn-level valuations have ceased since late 2018, early 2019. Think Lyft, Blue Apron, Uber, etc failed valuations. Investors have since pivoted to demanding to see real profits and not just hypothetical scenarios and valuations. So a lot of author's discussion of investor round valuations (appraised on number of user accounts and subscriptions) no longer make sense.

-- Technical implausibility
While GUI (graphical user interfaces) were a serious problem for Chinese software in the early 2000s, the idea that using foreknowledge to develop better online products is pretty implausible. The hardware just can't keep up with the software.
Some features can be ported from the future (e.g. Group chat functions, basic game trainers, etc).
Some features (large scale MMO level features, huge server capacities, and even just BASIC BANDWIDTH) are just impossible.

-- Poor Pacing and Overall Business Development
Spoiler

MC becomes a multi-millionaire (chinese yuan) within 2-3 months (first 100 chapters before he goes to college).
MC becomes a billionaire (chinese yuan) within 1 yr (first 400+ chapters).

[collapse]
Note that MC is NOT a 10x-programmer, it's just not possible for him and his team to develop that many products or gain widespread acceptance in 1 yr.
And then MC decides to enter every industry he can think of, within the same 1 yr. From entertainment to various forms of real estate to even automotive. Several of his business ideas and development gets really boring after awhile. Author spends dozens of chapters puffing up the ideas, then MC just assigns someone to develop it and walks away.

-- Very poor development on romance
Besides having love-interests that have high future potential (they had great status/wealth/capabilities as they got older in MC's prev timeline), almost all of MCs love interests besides his subordinate are entirely useless damsels-in-distress. MC is constantly bailing them out of trouble all the time, which is incredibly annoying.
While the harem theme isn't entirely problematic, the development is just abysmal.
Spoiler

MC constantly thinks with his d*ck and cheats on his gf at the first opportunity. Keep in mind he's mentally 30+ yrs old entering relationships with 19-23 yr olds.
MC is constantly exposed to more women through his work, even after his relationship with his gf is officially established. Not sure what author is trying to do.

[collapse]
It's not that hard to write a fairly acceptable harem plot (e.g. "My Wife is a Beautiful CEO"), but the way this was written is utterly s*upid. <<less

This novel is average at best, it is your typical CN second chance troupe. There is nothing special about it. The pace for the novel is both slow and fast, it is fast considering how he builds up his companies and how much it grows, there is so much happening in such a period of time, it is slow because all that happened in a span of not even a year!!! Chapter 1 = year 2001, chapter 14++ = year 2002.

Although this novel is about business, MC sucks at it.

And... more>> he suck at relationships too.

Spoiler

the things that irks me;

1. How slow the time moves, like really slow 1 year almost feels like forever.

2. MC is a ret*rd in relationships, he f*cks everybody except his girlfriend. Its not a harem its an affair.

3. MC is only a senior programmer in his first life but suddenly he knows everything in his second. Just because he has future knowledge it does not justify it

To be honest, it is poor man copy of HacKer (黑客).

Why poor? Well, our resident "programmer, Li Mu" coded only one thing. Online game cheating tool. Five days of work and *bam* he is millionaire now.

And that's it. He will never touch computer again. Have idea? He has people that will do it for him. After all, no one does job better than bunch of underpaid interns...

This novel involves a lot of rice bowl smashing/stealing, face slapping, arrogant second generation young master and MORE!

It really good, however the relationship between the main character and "harem" is garbage. I do love the business aspect of the novel. Since I don't really follow the IT development of china, this novel makes me google them and read up on them.

1 star!!! At first the story is good until 400+. I got bored and I just skipped some chapters because I was curious, who's he gonna end up with. Until I realized I just finished the novel without knowing what happen to his harem! Why? What happened to them? From 1700+ chapters. I didn't see the name of his gf (first love) and to his other lovers. Tf!!! So in the end he's still not married and his women are suddenly gone in the novel!

Worthless harem. It likes they are... more>> just decoration to your novel Mr. Author! <<less

This series is the Modern Chinese realistic series that is the least unappealing to western audiences. Main character finds himself in the unique position of mysteriously returning 15 years and not abusing that knowledge as a wildly racist Chinese. Althought it successfully swerves the insanely nationalistic to a fault, it does possess all the usual expected deficiencies of a modern harem. The clutter can be a bit too much at times when MC expands into a variety of projects. All in all, a great read in the industry-building genre.
