Alright, to be honest, it was a decent novel, which is rare to find on this site.

Although the ending was quite anti-climatic, it wasn't as bad as those snowflakes made it sound like.

Actually, the ending was miles away from those xianxia bullsh*t ending.

Truly bad, I don't recommend this for anyone.

The beginning of this novel is good, it isn't as other post apocalyptic novels that all society is destroyed and everybody act as animals, in this novel the government maintains order, and the military are relevant against the monsters, the main character is strong but isn't too strong, that is until: ... more>>

the MC turn into a half a god and later you can call him a god, he can destroy spaceships, create worlds, dimensions and life, spatial travel, etc. At this point the novel is something that I don't think is worth the time.

Solid world building, introduction and development of apocalyptic setting. Could have been so much better.

Then the novel completely stagnated after Chap 70, all characters hang around doing nothing, no progress, no development, nada, just some lame skill development.

Author also decided to go way way left with all the gratuitous titillation and fetishes. Pedophilic tendencies (MC's adopted little sister is pre-pubescent and very immature, devolves into s*xual relations, chap 100+), netorare tendencies, many many chapters dedicated to describing the gang r*pe/abuse of women. One character is repeatedly gang-r*ped, saved, gang-r*ped, saved, gang-r*ped, and finally killed. Absolutely pointless and sick fantasy from author. I get that a lot of the readers rated this highly because of the titillation though, seems very juvenile.

This is a pretty good novel but I find it strange how only humans are having such a hard time mutating. Every animal in the story, except for humans, quickly mutates and becomes stronger. Heck, every multi-celled organism seems to be set to fast forward except for humans.

Why? Does their intelligence get in the way? That's the only difference between them and other animals. I wonder if the intelligent dolphins managed to quickly mutate... It would be nice if the author went into more depth as to why the humans... more>> are mutating so slowly. Even though they can eat raw monster meat to mutate and "evolve", it's like adding a drop to a bucket.

Yeah, I know, this makes it easier for the author to make the story suspenseful by having such weak characters in such an overly dangerous world... but it seems a bit overkill. With the way all the other organisms are growing in strength so quickly, even the MC with his special leveling system seems to be hopeless in the long run. <<less

This is a very well written and thought out apocalypse with the author telling a realistic story about those surviving in the evolving world.

Some might not agree with the decisions of the MC (including myself at times) but it is important to remember that he is changing with the world around him. While he was the type of man to be in a relationship for a year before being intimate with a woman before the apocalypse, after the apocalypse, he would be more willing to sleep with a recently widowed... more>> woman if only to escape the fact that they both were almost eaten alive, r*ped, or mu*dered on their way to her house. Deep down, he is a simple man who was lucky enough to be blessed with a SYSTEM to measure his growth. This SYSTEM is not a cheat in many ways as it is still him putting in the effort to use these skills and push himself not to get complacent or overly rely on the system for power ups. While it does take him a while to explore his abilities beyond the SYSTEM (Power of Will, Evolution Capabilities, etc...), he is without a teacher in all of this and is dragging himself from place to place seeking safety in his increasingly unsafe world.

This is not to say that The Epoch of Twilight is without its flaws. The translation quality is wanting in places (switches from sword to machete to knife sporadically). There are missed opportunities with the writing to flesh out the supporting characters. To compare this to the Walking Dead, when a main supporting character dies, we feel that loss. Especially if they died in some horrific or amazing manner. Here, a character deaths are equivalent to cannon fodder or to further emphasize the futility of life (I found myself caring and remembering more about that guy who committed su*cide after seeing his son get crushed to death by an escaping mob than one of the companions of the MC who died due to bad luck).

Overall, I would recommend this novel simply for the realism the author creates his apocalypse but there is much to be enjoyed beyond that.

As of c192, 4/5 stars. <<less

The novel is actually a 4 for me but what ruins this novel for me is the translators or whoever organized this catastrophy. Im not sure how many translators are working on it seperately but has to be at least 3 and it ruins the whole read because the same things are translated differently.
for example: apparently a long bladed weapon like a saber/sword/katana is a knife (but not always just most of the chapters).
Spoiler

MC-s battlebeast is sometimes a lizard other times a chameleon also its sometimes huge and other times giant

[collapse]
Anyway its a good novel and definately alot better then God n Devil world in witch the author has to be a racist nationalist to even come up with the crap he writes.
Is it hard to have a golossary with so many translators working on it ? If they fix the translation then I will fix my rating.

The story feels very much like a prequel to "Swallowed Star", only instead of Xianxia-style progression MC has a game-element system that gives him quests and XP for missions to improve himself, and others get a random chance to evolve.

this novel is a complete waste of time. The interactions in this novel make zero sense. At the start of the novel MC finds out his friend is missing and gets a mission to find out the whereabouts of his missing friend. Due to this the MC ends up reporting to the police that his friend is missing. Here is where all the bullsh*t just spews out, the police take on the task and for whatever god damn reason they allow the MC to follow along. Think about this for... more>> a second would the police who are on a search mission bring along a civilian? I think thats pretty obvious. On top of that he asks for a gun to defend himself, let that sink in he a civilian asked the police for a gun. Its as if fkn common sense just evaporated from the authors brain. Sadly it gets even more s*upid from this point on. During the search mission the MC has a verbal spat with a officer and the officer goes nuts and points his gun at him? Like wtf is this some sh*t ass american sitcom. Anyways like I said at the start a complete waste of time. The thing is I actually don't have a issue with this being generic and not being new in fact I don't think thats the problem with most of these novels these days. I don't think every novel needs something new when theres clearly so many areas that could be improved upon like what I just mentioned above how the author just screws up minor common details like instead of thinking about some new fresh twist maybe you should just refine and perfect these basic fundamentals. <<less

TLDR:

Better Space History than Starfield!!!!

All I can say, this is a good read, and I recommend it to any Adult who like post apocalypse in real life modern settings. No heroes no antiheroes, just REAL life Person as MC. If you believe you wont act as the MC in this situation, you are a fool, and will die within 2 days of a real Post Apocalypse.

s*upid people with s*upid mindset gives low score to this Novel because is not the genre they like, which make it underrated. 4/5 rating, gave... more>> 5 to balance up a little of underrating.

RANT:

Before reading this I checked some review's here and I wont lie, I was skeptical about this novel, but ohh boy I was wrong and everyone else who gives a low score.

This is not about an Isekai MC that is a good boy like Naruto and helps everyone, f*ck THAT! This is bout sirvival, here you will see how human nature do things in real life during these events, specially MC, everything is depicted 100% to reality.

Excuse me if you are of those who have high moral values, this is not for you. You are living in a modern society with peace and food in the fridge, the MC on this Novel IS NOT. There is no food, no water and he has to fight dangerous creatures.

Every human in this series must be useful on something and those who are useless should either help flighting, die off, or suck MC's dick. Or how we say in our modern life: "Transport is not free so pay Gass, Grass or Ass". If you believe that this wouldn't've happen in a real life situation, then let me tell you, you will be an useless person in a REAL post apocalyptic world, and should die off.

Review:

My only complain so far is the existence of a System, which is the only thing that is outside of Real Life settings on this history, but that only MC has it, other people evolve by themselves, I suppose that the system is create for readers to understand, later the system loses it's purpose because MC embarks in cultivation.

History is Dark, because is real. You can search, during last pandemic, people steal shop from others to get food on many countries, and Covid19 is a joke of event compared with a total breakdown of the economical, military and social systems. Well this Novel will show you what happens.

Romance ? There is. It's the usual "MC is so cool and have my life and I love him" trope that you see on many Harem cultivation series. The MC being a s*x deviant and r*pe is all lie, he doesn't pick up women randomly to have se, but if these women jump on him, he will not reject, because MC is human like all of us. Within the first 40 chapters he forces himself into a roommate while sleeping together on same bed, YES the same thing we all would do in our teen years. If anybody don't agree that they will do what MC does in such settings, they are either hypocrite, or Beta males who will be hiding in a bas**ent during a post apocalypse era.

Since this is a real life settings you cant expect the happiness of those cultivation novels, so the history focus on MC only, and only he gains immortality, nobody else, no the Harem, no the kids gets it. So the history continues 4, 000 years after what you could take a happy ending, but the MC is alone.

More than this would be ruining the history for you, so go read. <<less

As is often the case with Webnovel translations, one of the largest issues with this book is that of inferior translation. I am unsure if the translator is someone who speaks only rudimentary english/japanese or if this is merely mtl'd, but overall there are many issues with the translation quality. In addition to this, the author's head is, as many others have said filled with pride/lust. The story has alot of potential and I enjoy the style with which it was written, but these mistakes when combined ruin it for... more>> me. All in all, I am unsure if I will continue the read.

The story is weak...

I'll read bullsh*t as long as it's constructive.

I liked the game and apocalypse elements, so I was hoping for a decent world building. However, it doesn't even exist.

... more>> The MC is rash and simple minded.

Supporting and side characters don't matter. They'll get introduced left and right, be forgotten after they do one or two things. This story is basically a one man show. They're there to be exploited by the MC.

The main issue I have with this title is the pacing. It's fast paced, things happen one after the other. That's fine, but when things happen and the author doesn't extrapolate further but gives a vague explanation like "that's the way it is". Why even include that in the story. It'll get forgotten after a few chapters anyway because it didn't matter. The author just needed an excuse to have that be part of the story. It doesn't add anything aside from being a service. Specially with how the author handles the female cast. <<less

This novel has a lot of flaws. When the MC finally reaches a safe place, it collapses shortly afterwards. The side characters r boring. I hate the harem plot. Wang Shishi is like 14-15 years old and she constantly offers herself up to the MC. Even if it’s an apocalypse novel, I find that disgusting. She’s a child still after all. Characters die easily so they aren’t very memorable. And then they start adding aliens into the plot. Where tf did aliens come from? I dropped it after that.

What can I say? If you want a complex but intricately woven plot, and If you want an MC that doesnt have harem, a vigilant and reasonable MC, just read Dark Blood Age. You wont regret it. Its also a post-apocalyptic world. Where mutant insect is the main enemy. Also.. Aliens :)

I got to chapter 119, was enjoying the story, then I found out that Qidian made 400 chapters exlusive, so I have to play by their bullsh*t daily rules, or pay money to read the story.

First of all, this is just a story, not worth spending money on.

Second of all, This story only just barely got out of the 'prologue' at chapter 118. Everything up to the point of chapters 117-118 was background, and annoying background at that.

Spoiler

As of chapter 118 The main character has finally stopped depending on the chinese government/army to come and "make things better". F*ck!! It only took him the destruction of two cities and the dropping of 3 nukes to get to that point.

He finally got it in his head to create his own group, who will be strong enough to live in the mutant times.

The summary suggests that everything goes back to ancient times where cultivation is king, etc etc. And finally after 118 chapters we get a hint that the main character finally gets a clue.

But what happens? Pay wall!

Just when the story actually gets interesting, Qidian puts up the pay wall.

Dropped.

At first the gritty realism keep me into the story even with the ever slowing pace. But what made me drop it was around chapter 143 the MC had a complete change in character, combine that with the slow pace I had to tap out.

The first 10 or so chapters got me really hooked. The MC is interesting, the world building is interesting, the premise is interesting, the pace is interesting. However, after like chapter 15 it just kept going downhill. So many wasted opportunities. I think that every time the author had to chose a direction to take the story, he always chose the worst one.

Like I said, the first 10 chapters got me really hooked that I even pushed through the pain to read up to chapter 100, but I just can't... more>> do it anymore. Like why make a game-like level up system and not have him level up from killing mutated animals? Why set up the character to be a police officer, and then instead of him joining the police, he goes and does boring hunting at some landfill? Why oh why would the author only focus on bland 2 dimensional characters in a world full of scientists, military, politicians, and conspiracy theorists etc.?

Just a complete waste of a great premise. <<less

Before I start this review I want to mention im currently on chapter 149 and I plan to update this review in the future after reading more chapters or ending the whole novel. I plan a small break before I read more, thats why I want to write my thoughts so far. Lets gets started:

I have mixed fellings about this novel – I dont now if I really love it or just like it. Its one of the best novels I read, thats for sure.

1. The Story:

I really like the... more>> Apocalypse setting, its one of my favorite Genres. My absolute beloved novel ("I have a mansion in the post-apocalyptic world") is a "Apocalypse" Novel, thats why I piked up this novel in the first place. The story is differente its more about survival than world building (atleast now - 149Ch) and the whole "power system" is more Game Based. I like the idea about the Evolution on Plans and Animals making the Humankind extinct/fight for survival. No Zombies and nothing similar, its just Human vs Nature. This makes it more interesting. The story is really dark and brutal sometimes, just like you can expect it from a Apocalypse Novel. Its important (IMO) to mention that there is always someone who acompanies the MC - its making the struggle to survive more intensw because he cares for his people and does everything to save them (i will talk about the MC more later). The plot is really good for the most part, there are constantly new obstacles and new situations what makes it less repetetive.

2. The MC

The MC is so much BETTER compared to the MC from "God and Devil World" (The novel in general is a much better version of it). He is ruthless or kind when he NEEDS to be ruthless or kind. He is not like the MC from GaDW (Yes I dont like this Novel, its Garbage) who is ruthless/brutall and withouth heart withouth reason - he is still Human even if his mentality did change a bit. He is really likeable and I like (mostly not every time) how he thinks and deals with obstacles etc.

3. The Power System

The power system is game based. He level up and gets stronger, unlocks new skills etc. He crafts weapons and armor - nothing new here but what I like is how the author keeps the numbers low, for example after lvl up he gets only one point and 5 skill points, not absurd numbers that are hard to follow and after a whille the reader dont really now whats the difference anymore. No, in this novel its only 1 point but this 1 point makes a huge difference for example 11 Dexterity is MUCH better compared to 10. Worth mention the MC is a Sword user and the Sword gets upgrades etc. Aswell.

4. The Romance

There should be more of it. Its not lacking but there should be more. Its a Harem novel, there are many girls but its the best kind if Harem IMO, the girls have really good resons to follow him and more importand to be together with him (He cares about them, saves her life many times etc.). There is no NTR related to the Main Girls
Spoiler

(Most people should check what NTR is... How can it be NTR if the Boyfriend of the Girl is death? Makes no sense LOL).

[collapse]

5. The Flaws

There are new events all the time, the action is really intense. Which is a really good think BUT there are rarely any chapters that allow the reader to make a breath! From time to time there should be 1-3 (depending how offten) Chapters which focus more on thinks like characters relationships (for examaple how I mentioned Romance) or just peacefull events. Its to much after reading many chapters in a row. Most novels has this Flaw IMO (The best novel I read which dont has this problem is the at the beginnig mentioned IhaMitP-AW). Its not a big flaw but thats why I need a break from reading, its to much fast events.

Conclusion at 149Ch:

Right now im giving the novel a 9/10 (5 star rating is not accurate enought IMO, because I dont want to give it the full rating yet). I will update the review when I reach 300 or 350Ch and (if I dont drop it because of bad chapters which I hope wont happen) when I finish it. I dont now how this novel could get so many 1/5 Ratings... It pretty much means it didnt fit personal taste of this people and they are not objectice like those people who read 10 Chapters or just 1/10 of the whole Novel but still feel siutable to write a review. The next funny kind of people are those who read the whole novel like hundrets/thousands chapters and still rate it 1/5 just because sth. Annoyed them- if you read so many chapters it clearly means you did like sth. About did which mean it CANT be 1/5. Lets be OBJECTIVE - if you cant: dont rate sth. <<less
