[How could a s*ave know more about money than a master such as I]

A quote by the president of Hanbo Group, Jung Tae Soo during the Congressional hearing.

They are called employees, salarymen, but in truth they were s*aves.

I was a s*ave.

But I’ve put everything I’ve had to become a butler. Instead, all I’ve got was an ending befitting of an abandoned s*ave.

And the blessings of the god.

It's a revenge troupe.

A male MC came from the modern time, transmigrated at least 30-40 years to the past as the youngest grandson son of Sunyang which is one the richest conglomerate of the modern era. He was an assistant/s*ave to his boss in his past life. His life ended as a scapegoat for his assh*le of a boss.

I've read a lot of transmigration story which also centered for revenge, and it is seldom for me to find a male MC, without OP cheat (except for his previous life knowledge... more>> and experience) that's why I'm giving it a 5 star. It may actually seem boring in the earlier chapters, but as you get deeper in the story, it is enjoyable to read.

I just hope that he won't create a harem. <<less

This series is amazing, both so far, and from what I hear, later on too.

In fact, it's the most popular online series in Korea, as you might notice by going to the Munpia homepage (http://www. munpia. com/) where Youngest Son of Sunyang seems to have been in the top left (most popular) series spot for over a year now.

Unfortunately, many of the references are lost on us non-Koreans, as we don't know enough about the Samsung family, who are the real life 'basis' for the story. The series isn't a... more>> historical fiction or anything, it's only loosely based on the Samsung family but the author makes some clever social commentary mixed in with his reincarnation competition to be the next millionaire.

Lots of tension, lots of realism and some great characters, I strongly recommend the series to anyone who might give it a read! Would love to see more series like it, and more chapters translated... It really deserves some love. <<less

Not worth reading. The translation's terrible, particularly given how the TLer keeps asking for money. The story's bad anyway.

Even at the beginning, several chapters have already passed without anything important or interesting happening. That doesn't stop the author from misremembering one of the only major events so far and putting events out of order. Don't expect insights into why characters think or do anything, the story just skips from scene to scene like an TV episode recap.

Almost all the well-educated adults are s*upid and petty. Even the chairman who built... more>> a multi-billion dollar company never realized that he should lobby more than just one political candidate, and he childishly starts shouting anytime someone says something he doesn't like? Uh, sure.

The MC's utterly random and undeveloped:

  • He can't make up his mind whether to act like a normal child or mature successor in front of his chairman grandfather, or whether to soak up his lessons or be bored by them.
  • He's messed up in the head. He threatens and traumatizes his brother, and soon after breaks his cousin's leg and later threatens to break his other leg, for no real reason. Nevermind that it would probably turn his family members into enemies and get him tattled on and considered a psychopath, making his family watch him more carefully or outright eliminating him from any chance of being allowed a high position in the company.
  • He wants to impress his grandfather with his future knowledge-backed cleverness, but doesn't tell him anything specific that'll make him seem extraordinary instead of just a bit clever for a kid or lucky.
  • It's not that he's trying to stay low-profile, either: his random assaults on children aside (seriously, dude's mentally forty years old and enjoys hurting and threatening pre-teens...), he keeps "secret" notebooks of things to remember. As long as his mom or maids don't clean his room or his brother doesn't steal his stuff in revenge, I guess..?

There is only 20 chapters with translation. After that I read mtl so I understand almost nothing related to financial and politic that is going on. Only get a glimpse on small detail here and there.

However, I really enjoy the story so much. it's money fight and MC is likable.

MC travel back to the past, became a chaebol's youngest grandson, he know future and he seem to have financial knowledge as his action explain it. He is also very smart, hard working and very discipline.

At first, He seem heartless but... more>> as story move on, I find that MC is actually soft, he just kind of calculative on every action. The novel will mention his soft side a bit... so we know he is soft but there is almost no story playing on that part.

The theme say revenge, but I don't feel any revenge vibe.. it's more like How MC slowly built his own money empire over the course of several years. If the original villain in his first life does not do anything with MC in his second life.... I feel like MC will let it go too.

There are only 2 valid human interaction.... grandfather and Oh-seihyun because it's in main story line.
Spoiler

Both MC and grandpa being shown as heartless in the beginning. MC try to act like good boy to get favor while grandpa favor MC for his talent. However as the story move on. They actually feel close and love each other. The grandpa just don't want MC's talent to be waste away so he closely observing MC's education and reward MC from time to time... So other just feel like grandpa is bias on MC but he actually love all of his blood... just not show it out.

As for Oh-seihyun.. it's very professional like relationship that growth closer with the time. I like that MC and Oh-seihyun keep visiting each other even after Oh-seihyun retired.

[collapse]

However, My complaint.... they kind of lacking the fan-service showing rich people lifestyle and other human interaction in the novel... like MC's family and friends.

Spoiler

MC start dating his girlfriend from chapter 76-326 (ending)... At some point I though they broke up or something because she just gone MIA in the story after dating agreement. She only show up 4times in the story. 1st is when they met, 2nd is when they agree to date, 3rd is during graduation ceremony, and last time is on their wedding... she is not even appear on ending.

It seem like MC has no friend.. but he actually has some college friend who reader will know they are MC's friend when the story need it. Because they basically met twice in total.... the story seem plan because first time is meeting in college while introducing each other... then few 100 chapters later when MC need help with connection... he will mention it's his friend from college time...

I was like what... they are friend...? the story should show some interaction or some story, not just met once then go building friendship behind scene...

In primary school, MC had no friend because he said so himself that his mind is 40years old so he cannot cope with children mind. I guess middle school is the same. In high school there is some small mention that MC is famous with girls for being handsome... but he stick to his book.. so probably no friend again.

Then MC entering university in korea because he want college connection. So I really looking forward to see more interaction on human relationship...

however even though his college life is from chapter 47-178. They only show his college life 2times.... first time is when he just newly enter and became center of attention... 2nd time when he went out to drink with college friend where he agree to date his girlfriend... the author could try to tight his college life to the main story line a bit more...

What's weird to me is MC does not even have connection with friend from rich family to use...

MC interaction with family is also too small... His big brother is only 2 years apart so I kind of expecting his screen time more.

The story start when MC is 10yrs old and end around 33-35yrs old. When MC is 24... big bro got employed in the startup company hiding the fact that he is chaebol with the aim of learning. Then again when MC is 27... big bro show up again as more experience employee.... but we did not see big brother life's conclusion in the end if he setup company or remains as employee forever.

In another event, when MC happen to be very good for ordering food in cheap restaurant, the college's friend look surprise. So MC explain that his family did not only go to vip kind of restaurant... they often eat out in normal restaurant.... so the college's friend was like Oh.. and I did 'Oh' too... haha.... Because the novel only show MC and his family in vip restaurant...

I feel like novel should show actual event of his daily life more instead of putting it in conversation...

All stories about friendship, dating and family will be execute in background... we only know what happen when MC mention it in one sentence.... I don't even know his mom already stay abroad with his big bro for almost 100 chapter.... the novel just show it when MC has business trip and decide to drop by big bro's apartment and oh mom is there cooking korean food.... she live there with big bro...

This is genuinely interesting. Although not much has happened I believe that this has a lot of potential. I expect this will be slow, but I am definitely willing to stick with it. This is the only time travel story that I have read that makes the MC a different person completely. I mean in this type of story, and even in other genres the only one I can think of is “I Reincarnated as my Wife” overall it seems pretty good. The MC isn’t just like trust me my... more>> dudes. He isn’t like other MCs who are just like “what I do is right, no matter how ridiculous it is you have to trust me”. Not perfect, but definately close, although that really depends on how the next few chapters go. <<less

Still a bit early to give my input, since the world building is still on-going and so it's still a bit confusing. But nonetheless, I would give it 4.5 stars. It's not yet super (5 stars), but it's very good (4 stars is only "good").

Ever since a year now, I've noticed that korean novels tend to be much more varied than the chinese ones, and so is this diamond in the rough.

The story starts by showing us the MC, as one of the assistants (problem solver for issues such as... more>> abortions, bribes etc) of the current Sunyang chaebol (when you think chaebol think of the current influential south-korean chaebol: Samsung). He was 40-year old fixer/problem solver, and even though he worked for them for 20+ something years faithfully (and only hopes to become a butler) he gets pinned as a scapegoat by the current head of Sunyang for embezzlement or theft, and then gets mu*dered afterwards. He reincarnates (it is not said how it happens), through a weird string of luck in the Sunyang family 30 years in the past, as the youngest grandson of one of the founders of Sunyang. Luckily he winds up in a branch family not the same branch as the one that eventually turned out to use him as a scapegoat.

So now he is 10-years old, and he's using his past-knowledge by impressing his grandfather, the current head of Sunyang. He's trying to derail the eldest son (his uncle now, of age 20) from becoming the successor, and he's trying to be fostered/made into the next successor by manipulating his grandfather, by showing how excellent he is. Which is funny because he is 10 years old... so comparing a 10-year old to a 20-year old.... :p

I'm currently up to ch 14, and currently can't wait for more chapters. It's different than other novels, it delves into chaebol/family based conglomerates and the fights between the successors. If you want to make an idea for yourself how the novel is, and want to try it, my suggestion would be to read at least 5 chapters, because the first 3 chapters all had to do with world building so it was kind of boring, but further than that, the next 2 chapters shows his ambition/thought process for future steps. Once this gets more speed, I will probably change the 4 star into 5 star since it will probably be worth it. If the novel picks up a bit more speed, I believe this novel will probably be in top 10 novels since it's quite interesting.

Edit: I've continued reading this up to the latest chapter. Strangely enough I actually called it correctly, the story is based on the current ruling chaebol of South Korea, which is Samsung. Last few chapters, I'm not sure if it's due to the author or due to the translator, but the chapters have become really difficult to understand, it jumps from one character to another, and you end up mixing the characters. So now I'm kinda lost with the story a bit. But the story still feels promising, and I stand by my previous rating. <<less

Pretty much a chaebol novel through and through.

The story is basically a power struggle between our MC who has memories of the future and his uncles who have already established stable positions in the race for the chairman's seat. The main parts of the storytelling are the business adventures of our MC in the dirty world of business empires of Korea which are heavily attached to politics, his schemes when taking on his uncles, and his relationship with his grandfather which is frankly what kind of makes this novel what... more>> it is.

My only criticism would be lack of romance (barely even 2 chapters of interactions with the FL in like 200 chapters) but this is kind of my personal opinion. Other than that it isn't cringy like other novels where the MC acts like some kind of edgy overlord. Here our MC is frankly human, by which I mean he is kind of like one of us. He makes mistakes, has issues over times and gets overly arrogant sometimes. But he also focuses on improving on those mistakes, valuing advice from important people he trusts and recognising when his arrogance crosses the limits and gets in line. He also doesn't do cliche stuff like letting loose ends and all.

Overall, its a very fun read and a proper "chaebol" novel. <<less

Liking the stpry so far. A bit too much history info dump and technical talk for my tastes but I dont mind simply skipping a few paragraphs every now and then.

But the story development itself seems really interesting to me and the MC is utilizing his limited knowledge well. So far hes been using general future knowledge bt im also looking forward to him using his actual personal future experiences. Cant wait for more chapters

I wanted a sneak peek but the translation was quiet awkward and quiet poor. It's either the novel was truly poor written or the translation team had poor translating skill. I came from the webtoon, and it wasn't bad at all, on the contrary it's quiet good. It would be aired as k-drama starring by Song Joong-Ki and distributed by JTBC so I think this would be a good read from beginning to the end.

Ps: just don't forget, it started in 80-90an era. Their way of thinking and adaptability would... more>> be less quick or sharp than people nowadays, even the 'creativity' to make decision.

3/5 because it's not enjoyable to read. I suggest read first the webtoon or watch the drama (start airing: 18th this month) <<less

Take my review with a grain of salt cause I love this story way too much.

Yes, it's a typical Chaebol story; though it started as revenge it ultimately ended up simply being Dojun wanting to have all of Soonyang (or Sunyang, depending on translation), though, the character aknowledges this himself at some point.

A lot of chapters reference some real events in financial/economic history, which for nerds like me, is a real treat, but I guess there may be some who find it tedious, as it goes into details like conversations... more>> between characters explaining how the housing crisis takes place or how the dot-com bubble burst and why.

There's also no real romance other than knowing he has someone and her name, with very few mentions through very far apart chapters, unlike the tv drama.

Also, the way other members of the Soonyang family are portrayed makes it for a very satisfying moment whenever Dojun messes with them, or in some cases, interacts in a friendly manner, it's nice not all of them are a*holes.

Also, if read at a good translation (which by some reviews I find a lot did not have the pleasure to read) it's a very engaging story, I found myself reading chapter after chapter and even paying to read the next asap, which I normally don't.

Also, Dojun's Grandpa and Dad are my fav characters, very different and yet so similar.

Truly an enjoyable read.

No spoilers in the TL issue. I did this because it was fairly long and you might not want to read it, LMAO.

Translation issue:

Spoiler

Another issue of a translator removing and changing some parts.

As I was reading, there were some parentheses--TL notes, I guess. It was not, however, specified so it was a guessing game--inside dialogues, sentences, etc. and it was pretty annoying (I know, I'm so fussy. I hate myself too). To be sure, I checked the raw and there were no parentheses. But I discovered missing words in the dialogues. Paragraphs were missing too.

At the end of Chapter 16, in raw, there were paragraphs but in the translation, it was a dialogue. Plus, that said dialogue was not in the raw.

How'd I know? I used to be a huge fan of everything Korean years ago so I can perfectly read and understand SOME Hangul. Therefore, I figured out that the translator was removing some words. Like, some sentences were long but once you read the translation, it was super short.

I will still read this and I recommend you to do so. I read the Manhwa first and enjoyed it and I'm enjoying this too.

Reminders:

  1. I wrote this midst of Chapter 16. So this is an issue about the first translator.
  2. I am, in every way, grateful to them for picking this novel up.
  3. I wrote this just to rant. If you do not care about these things, pay this no mind.
  4. I am very nitpicky when I like a novel. I did not write this to offend anybody. And if I did, I'm very sorry.

Review:

16 chapters in and I'm enjoying the story a lot. I cannot say anything more than that because I just started but I will write a proper review once I finish this.

There's a scene where...
Spoiler

MC went to find his pre-transmigration parents which, at first, annoyed me but I soon realized that it was needed. To ground him more, for him to forget/not worry and not let them get in the way of his revenge. I almost stopped reading the manhwa when it happened. I'm really glad I didn't.
