Best cultivation/chinese novel so far.

Sure, MC is greedy but he was greedy from the start, no surprise there.

Side characters get a lot of development and are periodically mentioned from time to time. Not like Coiling Dragon where they all just disappear. You know a lot of the side characters in WoC will be back at some point or another.

... more>> Villians aren't all one dimensional. Rivals can become friends in this novel and aren't all killed off

Update after chapter 890. Seems like the ending is super rushed. Many things are left unresolved it seems... And yeah a lot of things are stated instead of shown which is disappointing. First half 1-400 was 5 stars. Later ending a 3.5-4. <<less

A very interesting read. The plot and direction of the story is very different from other novels and the world-building is the best that I have ever seen. Character building is very believable and much more realistic. WoC compared to other novels is like the difference between the sky and the earth.

Definitely recommend, 5*.

Edit: Finished reading the novel. I have to say the ending is quite lacking compared to the start and middle. I would have expected more oomph from the climax, which just... deflates. Like a popped... more>> balloon (a fitting metaphor, lol). Still, it is still much better than other novels out there. Final rating would give 4*. <<less

One of the best Chinese novels out there. It's a must read. Great worldbuiding, interesting characters, good interactions and funny moments.

Remind me a bit of ISSTH. It's very good.

I highly recommend this novel. The protagonist is the funniest MC I've ever seen in any wuxia novel. He never takes himself seriously, but always manages to produce great results. The other characters also have very unique personalities, and are extremely interesting, to the point that I would happily read a whole series from the point of view of any of the other characters in this story.

I would rate it a 4.5 but didn't get the option to give half star. There's some dry parts that seem like "filler" to me but hey there is plot to the story! Yahh! There's also multiple subplots that are introduced early and progresses with the story. Some slight negatives were the dry filler parts to me that wanted more progress in the main plot. I also felt some filler parts were developed too much and other non filler parts should have been developed more. (Ie the... more>> transition from Sect to Island and why etc) Also a few other spots that I felt story wise that seemed rushed.

With that being said, it's a great read with the multiple plots and subplots that span most of the chapters so far. <<less

A slow paced novel from weak to strong with a great detail. I do enjoy each chapter like their adventure which with hardship to overcome their weakness. ISSTH, Xian Ni, DD, and here WOC.. My kind of novel and obviously 5 star. Any recommendation like these?

I love Zuo Mo's personality! He's such a money grubbing bastard, heh, my favorite type of character. I also tend to enjoy this sort of "non mainstream" character who is practicing a variety of production type skills. I would compare him to Weed from LMS (who I also love to bits). There are a few things I have against it, but overall they didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story and were grievances quickly forgotten as I moved on through the story. I do still hope to see... more>> more of some of the forgotten characters though. This starts out slow paced, but it's worth it to persevere and make it through :) <<less

Very creative and fun. I like the MC : he is very resourceful. The side cultivation and the side "engineering" are beautifully mixed. The story have also a touch of humour. (auxiliary compagnons the crane,...)

Very pleasant to read.

As I can not rated 4, 5 (I wish more tension and cliffhangers to be perfect). I have rated 5 stars.

this novel is an excellent slow read. So don't expect any kind of fast paced action. Hell it takes quite a few chapters before the MC even has a fight with someone.

the plot follows zuo mou a farmer cultivator with amnesia and a frozen face who grows herbs for a sect. We follow his journey as he begins to find out why his face was frozen and he has amnesia. Pretty much everything good about this novel has been said by the other reviews so I will just add what... more>> I like about this novel.
Spoiler

like in bleach the MC is currently practising the three main ways of reaching the peak, those are strengthing the body, cultivating the consciousness (the soul) and finally the sword. His real talent however lies in formations which we find his talent for is top tier unlike for the sword which is what he started with.

[collapse]
we've got the good old spirit with him, though this one is stingy and loves torturing zuo mou which is a refreshing change. To conclude I would read this. The vast amount of chapters out currently and how consistent the translator is with the chapters (1 a day) makes this a joy to read alongside everything mentioned by me and what other reviewers have said. <<less

Out of all the Xianxias, this is one of the few that is still going strong. Dreams of Jianghu, IMO, has a good reputation for selecting interesting stories. This and To Be A Virtuous Wife are the daily pleasures I can't wait for.

Easily a top marked story.

Most xianxa tends to have more chapter than japanese ln/wn because it’s training yea it’s all about training become peak of the world because of that I've always skimming it through except few parts like obtaining artifact or unique skill. But this is different!!This definitely top read. Not op but smart, the way he acts intriguing and logical.. Definitely my fav xianxa so far both this and ISSTH!!

A very nice story, where the MC takes a more unique path to attain immortality.
Lots of interesting developments and the MC has a perfect personality. He is not too smart, not too dumb, nor does he have a heaven astonishing talent. Just a little above average guy trying to get money so he does not die of hunger.

it's fun to read. The story start slow, but gets better later on after the MC meeting a certain someone. The story for now are starting to get fun since everything start with a conflict. What I like about WoC is the MC monologue. It make me think that he's a normal guy working hard striving to survive and live a happy life. He complains, curses and refer to himself as 'ge' and have a zombie face, but he's a cool and funny dude inside. I like this kind of... more>> MC more than the generic ones. And what got me hooked in this is a folded pink paper crane. <<less

Despite the slow start, it is a surprisingly unique beginning to a xianxia story. Instead of the countless power struggles that the typical wuxia/xianxia face, we have a zombie-faced MC who wants to focus on farming in his quest to get rich. His primary focus is on cultivation but cultivation of his plants and farming techniques. These farming techniques eventually lead to breakthroughs in our MC's strength but his desire to get stronger is only second to his greed. While the novel (around 50-ish) seem to move towards the typical... more>> "training to overcome a rival" arc, I hope that the novel stays true to itself and what made people love it. <<less

After reading some of xianxia like CD, MGA, AGT, DD, BTTH, ISSTH (one of my favorites), ST, I have to say, it's kinda nice to read something different like WoC (well maybe later it won't be much different than the others). This story is a slow paced, so you might get bored with it, but I personally don't mind it, it's still interesting and the translator is doing a great job by translating one chapter a day that keeps my interest.
The MC isn't OP, and still have a long... more>> way to become one. The MC became inner sect disciple in a sect of sword cultivation because of his talent in cultivation as a ling farmer lol. And we have one shixiong (elder brother) who is more likely to become MC himself in other story, the one with great talent and wholeheartedly pursuing sword. Both of them enough to make me wanting more xD
From the latest translation, the MC started to tend the path of sword cultivation and eager to become powerful to reveal his mysterious past, so I'm sure things will be getting more interesting.
Long story short, give this novel a chance and you might like it like I do :) <<less

The terms and stuff confuses me so much in the beginning, but after a while you kind of just get used to it. After that, it gets pretty good. The MC works hard to get to where he is (ofc, with some help of external influences as with any other Xianxia character). Also, the MC seems very capable (as in he's logical, most of the time). Not like some MC in Xianxias that can't find their way out of a paper bag without a divine intervention.

Very slow paced which is a plus to some and minus to others. Chaps are also posted in 5s (at least for first 10) which is A LOT OF READING for how much wordcount per chapter it is. If u don't read it all at once ull need to find your place again as the web page will refresh.

I dropped due to somethings in the translation not being translated on purpose. As a non Chinese person nor who some1 who doesn't know Chinese, idk what 5-10 of these repeated Chinese... more>> terms mean such as jingshi. I wish the translator just translated it to a relevant thing such as qi, money, etc.

Due to how slow paced it was I decided to read some of the reviews first and decided to drop there. Although it's highly rated the high revs tended to all have negative things on the novel yet rated 5 stars... <<less

3.6 ⭐

Well, it took me 10 days to finish. This novel is good, from start to finish filled with tense. MC very rarely has a complete win without taking damage. Every victory was hard-earned.

What caught my attention was the MC's personality, which was unlike the MCs from other novels. This MC is more like a side character in other novels, less interested in cultivation and more interested in money. It couldn't be said that he was the strongest, but he befriended strong people, who accompanied him through his struggles

One thing... more>> that is a bit disturbing in reading this novel is the POV that keeps changing between the MC and the other characters, which is sometimes confusing because it's a bit sudden. There are also a lot of characters, which sometimes makes me dizzy because they appear after several tens or even hundreds of chapters.

The development of the world is quite good and consistent, but the direction and placement are not very clear. If only there was a visual map, it would be very helpful, because some places don't feel quite right in the location.

Well, I really like MC's pets, they are all very cute. Btw, no romance at all.

The ending is pretty good, but unsatisfactory. There is no continuation about MC after winning the war. It's quite a shame. Happy reading! <<less

The first chapters starts good but then it turns into a boring slice of life, in a world ruled by swordsmen MC dosent like to use the sword so he trains and lear everything else that you can imagine and he dosent excel in anything even if ppl say so.

The followers of the MC does all the fighting, training and power ups. At chapter 467 you dont really know if MC is strong or not.

The world building is interesting at the start but later turns BAD real BAD we have... more>> a war between races since chapter 1 but nothing is happening (the world is suppossed to be huge but everything happens in 3to4 places), being at c467 and the story ending at c9xx I dont see how this can get better even if the author start rushing things I prefer to drop this and look for something else <<less

3/5

very bloated kind of story telling.

cringy culturally chinese fight scenes- inefficient and over stylized

chapter 1 is very good though- one of the best introduction ive read in a novel.

chapter 200 2/5

the storytelling is just like how luis tell his story in Antman movies. it was unfocus and bloated

eg.

a typical japanese storytelling:

"zou mou laid a trap

and then see his first victim"

world of cultivation storytelling:

"zou mou laid a trap...

(then talk about everything and nothing for about 30 chapters)

then see his first victim"
