I have a foster father…

Um, that’s not the important part. I just want to say, why doesn’t he understand the differences between boys and girls in this world? He insists a p*rnographic picture is actually a diagram of acupuncture points. And also…why did he raise me as a boy for 15 years?! It’s impressive that he can write prescriptions, but I studied poisons.

But, why is he a Fang Hua Beast…

Still feel the pain whenever I stumble across this. But I love angst so it's a good 100/100.

Be prepared to get your heart shredded in agony. The story's progress is very slow and the actual reveal of everything in the end, pierced my already sore heart.

Will never recover from this and 100/100 would re-read it to relieve my heart from pain. No spoilers this time.

Thank you, author, and translator for your hard work!

Honestly such a good read. I cried literally throughout the entire novel. Typically, I prefer not to read or watch tragedies as they require too many tissues. However, this is worth the read. There are some common tropes involved in this novel, however, it was displayed in a very refreshing way. For those who are hesitating, read it! For those who are avoiding it due to the tragedy tag, I encourage you to take a stab!

I want to knock myself in the head for missing the tragedy tag and suffering heartache from this. To be honest I agree with some of reviews here, a lot of things in the plot felt unnecessary and could've been resolved simply that would make the plot proceed & develop more. Some parts felt needlessly long though I am not sure if that made the 'tragedy' mood more pronounced but for me it just felt... well... unnecessary. Also it might be because this was written in 1st person but it... more>> was hard to grasp the characters' individuality and depth to make them more understandable & solid, I was honestly interested in Han Zichuan's character (tho I hated him) and the Princes. Wished the author elaborated on them too.

It was a nice short read I guess. <<less

At first one thought it will be a fluffy sweet story with comedy inside, but the more the story goes, one should never underestimate the tragedy tag. Well, if you are not familiar into xianxia genre, u need to think a lil bit to connect all the pieces to make it more sense, like me.

Actually Shao Hua's character is good and it is nice to see her way paying attention to her yifu all over, but as the story goes by I am getting more and more frustrated by her... more>> denseness over FH & HZ feelings.

Spoiler

Yeah u can blame her memory lost, HZ, and the unexperienced FH at some part but still!! communication is always the key!

And Fang Hua, he really is too much kind or rather... too pure with his feeling and I like it.

It has it own comedy, fluffiness, sadness, and a bittersweet aftertaste. It didn't give more explanation of some characters at the end, thus it leaves an open ending for some parts. Still, a nice and exhausting ride for my heart. <<less

I love Fan Hua's character it was different and very refreshing to be honest.... But I wish Shao'er was a little open about her feelings instead of keeping everything bottled up they could've avoided all the heartache Though I hate tragedy novels but since it was a happy ending I can live that

Considering they were immortals and all that depression was a test!

I have never experienced such excessive pain or extended emotional agony in my life. 10/10

If you are an absolute sucker for beautiful and ethereal tragedies, this book is for you. If you prefer feelings of pure sweetness and happiness, then this may not be for you. Bittersweet lovers only. The happier you feel at the beginning, the more agonising the descent into tragedy it feels. It has all the hallmarks of a great tragedy. BEAUTIFULLY written.

When I write this review, i've reached 23 chapters. Out of curiosity, since I dont mind of spoiler, I try to find the outline of the plot.

Spoiler

spoilers giving by reviewers made me afraid to continue more. I don't want Fang Hua to get hurt. He is this pure and innocence. When he likes men, it is not based on s*x interest but purely affection fishing attraction.

[collapse]

I'll give an update review after I finish this novel as well the stars rate.

Edit: Now i've finished this reading.
Spoiler

this author really... has ability to squeeze a delicate heart. I keep guessing a real behind story; what is happened. It turns out Fang Hua experience love and yearning to one and only Shao Hua. My.. my.. after his 3 lifetimes finally he is able to freely love.

[collapse]

Misunderstanding is always a main reason why tragedy happen. It is often because there is a limit conversation between roles. But in this novel, that supposed conversation is not necessary. The suffering that happen because of secret is needed. The plot of this novel is painfully beautiful. As the author says: "And yet, why were things so sorrowful?Because love was demanding"

I gain no hatred to any characters in this novel. Even for the egoist crown prince. Maybe because of his suffering. No matter what he do, a heart he want will never his. As for Nongyu, Eunugh Li, and all 6 Princes I hope they find their own happiness.

Thank you for the Volarenovels for sharing this wonderful novel. Me as non native English, found it difficult to understand because its poetic words. But ofcourse, this reading is worth of time. <<less

I was very engrossed when I started reading, I finished it all in a day.

It left me questions and left me deducing what would happen as I read further.

Spoiler

But at the end part, I felt disappointed that everything was just because of misunderstandings. Their problem would have been resolved if the MC and ML just confessed, instead of falling for the emperor’s whims. I don’t know, the ending was tasteless for me.

[collapse]

It was very well written though.

I’d personally give it a half rating. It was an alright read.

The idea of the Fang Hua beast is great, however, the whole story as a whole is not. There were just a lot of unnecessary things that happened just to move the plot along.

If this story was to start from the Heavenly realm first and then go from there, and erase all the unnecessary side stories then I would definitely give this novel a 5 stars. Because it did not, everything just feels like an after thought.

I also did not like how every single male is attractive to the female... more>> lead for no real apparent reason or for the only reason that she saved them.

If you really want a good story to read then I would not recommend this. Only read this if you truly have nothing else to read. I would also suggest just to read from chapter 47 on. Really everything else before that is really not worth the time. Although the first few chapters are pretty good, 47 on ward will give a brief information on it. So you won't miss much. <<less

I like the general direction of the novel but I was getting impatient (frustrated?) by the end because the MC and ML were being so obtuse about each other's feelings and their unwillingness to share their problems made their lives so much more difficult. I can't decide if I found it to be a problem with the writing, or if I just didn't agree with the character's behavior/decisions.

I dislike stories where the main conflict/angst is derived from dumb misunderstandings that could’ve been easily resolved if people would just talk about their feelings.

I didn’t care much for the second male lead, who solely exists to introduce a love triangle and have the MC angst over dumb misunderstandings.

I came across this one in 2016. I keep recalling the scene (even now and it's already 2017. Almost a year had already passed) when

the MC forgot the ML and the emperor (the other guy who hunted the MC relentlessly because he's obsessed with her) told her that she is one of his concubine. Then the emperor drugged her while he took her v**ginity. After he had done the deed, the Emperor still made her take the soup for preventing pregnancy. To think, he's claiming he really love her.

I kept thinking what was the title of the novel with that scene again? I dunno why it keeps playing in my head. Haha. Maybe because of the betrayal I felt

when he keeps insisting he loves the MC but after obtaining her he's cold to her. I kept thinking does he really love her? Or he only likes to obtain her because she likes the ML?

This one is kind of a confusing one and full of angst. The lesson in this story is to not reached into a conclusion first and ask the parties involved.
Spoiler

Well, in their case it can't be helped because this was a predetermined destiny. Haha. You can read it in the epilogue. Whooh.

This started out okay until the misunderstanding grew way out of proportion. The characters did not bother clarifying any events that could be misconstrued. Too much drama and angst spanned for like decades simply because they wouldn't talk to each other. Suspension of disbelief is nowhere near enough. 6/10, but only because I liked Fang Hua. Would not recommend, spare yourself from the agony.

I don't usually get too emotional when reading fiction novels but in this one I cried a river. It's plot is heavy and it's great if you like this kind of genre but if you easily get too emotional, be warned. But overall it's a great novel, I thank the author and translator for sharing this with us

The novel started off as a light romantic comedy novel, then it changed to a palace struggle novel, then to a cultivation novel and then back to a palace struggle novel and then, finally, back to a romance novel. Then at the end, into an immortal and tribulations novel 😓 It was just all over the place. I honestly think the author did not know the direction that she wanted to take with this novel. Everything was just thrown in randomly when convenient. For example:

there were no information indicating that Shoaer knows how to make poison until she used it. There were no indication that the imperial doctor is a master of face shifting until Shoaer used a face mask to change her face.

[collapse]

There were not much depth and details of Fang Hua and Shoar's years together too. The author gave us a little bit of their lives together and then suddenly it jumped to 2 years together and then 3 and then 5 years. There was nothing to explain what happened in those years. There were also a lot of uncleared information that were continually thrown in without giving us the readers any answer until the end. It was quite frustrating. Actually, the writing style in itself was very frustrating to read. Because of not giving us readers any answers until the end, it was quite confusing and did not help the story much.

I did really like the beginning. It was light and funny. I did not like the middle part. Lots of new characters were introduced only to have them be pushed to the side and out of sight when they served their purpose for the author. There were no in depth and detail information about their lives and relationships with the MC in all those years she lived with them. I also did not like how she let guys touch her however they want and how the second male lead treated her, or the fact that almost every guy that she met, fell in love with her. Truthfully, this was the part where I basically took a break from the novel.

The only thing I liked about this novel is Feng Hua's sad story. Such a great idea but was not executed well.

I do not recommend this novel. Save your time and read something better. <<less

I'm conflicted. Honestly, the story has some glaring holes. But even years after reading it, I still remember some scenes clearly because it's so heartbreaking.

like how she watered that branch with her own blood? Well, maybe I remembered that because it's kinda gory?
